We’re in the same boat with energy savings. We have a nice solar panel array on our house, and it’s all paid off. I have the 2023 Ioniq 5 Limited, and my husband has the 2023 Bolt, with my car to be used for longer trips. I love to say that we’re driving on sunshine. I only laugh because even though my son hasn’t visited yet to check out my car he can’t wrap his head around a car that’s so quiet. For him he’s staunchly in the camp of “noise equals power”.

@@TheIoniqGuy totally! I hit a deer in November - amazingly, the only thing messed up was the front bumper and the plastic casing around the driver side front wheel. The repair was the least expensive I've ever had. But having to drive an economy Nissan low-end something for three weeks was absolute torture. Never go back to ICE again.

Awesome Video! So comprehensive and understandable. You’re V2L video validated our hope that the Ioniq5 would connect to our twist lock generator plug and it works perfectly. We are entirely off grid, so in the winter in New England having this Ioniq5 is a game changer because we can literally power our house for days, as you know :) Keep making great videos my brother, they are more helpful than you might know!

2023 owner. 14k miles. No major issues. I had all the updates done with my dealer. I had the tail gate rattle, dealer also did this. Although it only lasted a couple weeks, back to rattling, it drives me crazy. I’ll make sure the dealer takes a look at this. Also a rattling near the passenger door when I play music, seems the bass is triggering it. Also, drives me nuts. All in all I’m happy. Range is 250-300 in warm weather and 200 or so in cold weather, changing to 100 percent. I spend 80% of time on the highway, 65-70mph average.

Hey Corbin. I been watching your videos since before I ordered my IONIQ 5 in Feb 2022 around the time you posted putting something on the rear window to make up for the lack of a wiper. I only received my I5 in June 2023.
I don't remember you, or anyone else, for that matter mentioning using the left paddle to use the regenerative braking even when on level 0 regen. I use that a lot and am mostly set at Level 1 but use the left paddle to come to a complete stop. I also find one pedal driving a little annoying especially for passengers. I also found out something by accident as I drive in Adaptive Cruise all the time. Holding the cruise control down for a few seconds puts the car in speed limit. I won't let you go over a certain speed unless you floor the accelerator. This is good when there are a lot of cops around. Not sure if you ever mentioned this 'feature'.

Loving the car so far, my wife got a 2024 Kona Electric Limited and I love her 360camera. That would be the only thing I’d want in my IONIQ5. The Kona is great but has a lot more cabin noise.

    07/22 awd 72.4 kwh; 50k km (31k mi); SOH: 100%
    Overall consumption: 17.2 kwh/100km (3,6 mi/kwh)
Charging pattern: 90% AC (at home); 10% DC hypercharging.
Original sensors/cameras/radar still working. No 12V/ICCU issue.
I, too, have the occasional phantom alert from parking sensors - not too annoying so far.
One minor issue after first year: Actuators for front air flaps were replaced. (Covered by warranty)
Am still very happy with the car and love driving it.
Thanks for the review. - Greetings from Germany.

15:52 my old 2017 Ioniq had a 100% battery health (with car scanner). I charged that car almost strictly by 110V because I had a very short 10 min commute and never bothered to update to level 2.
The dealer told me that it was a 100% of the useable portion of the battery. Their test stated 96.8% which is still amazing.

Your videos in the beginning are what drove me to get this car. At the end of February I'll be at my two year mark. I'm at about 36000 miles but would have probably close to 50000 if it wasn't in the shop for a few months. With having the same exact car as you (I have a black interior), and the few issues I've had (12v battery, Dead ICCU and fuse, etc), it is certainly a great car. I love driving it. People love driving in it. People love the looks and design. Hopefully Hyundai stays on top of everything with TSBs and software updates. Best of luck with finding a new place with your requirements for an EV. I would be the same way. Can't wait to see that harness for the Auto-unlock module come out. I'm on board. Great videos throughout the two years. Thank you and best of luck in your future endeavors!

    2023 SEL AWD here
I bought mine in November 9, 2023 and already have close to 6,000 miles on it. only issue I have had is sometimes prior to the recent software update, the infotainment system would freeze and cause the "check change lane assist" function alert would come on until I restart the system. (thanks to your videos, I learned how to restart it lol) Parking censors suck, they go off all the time in a drive-thru lane but they are great for parking in a spot that has a high curb or stopper that might damage the front.
I have the trunk rattle when I go over a moderate bump, it's not too bad yet, but it's noticeable, it sounds like the lid is loose to be exact.
I drive mine about 70miles a day Mon-Fri for work, charge at home when I get off work and sometimes forget to unplug it when its alerted me it's finished, many times it's trickled charged all the way to 100% when It says its not charging, and my Hyundai Charge Point charger also says its not charging. so Not sure whats up with that, but never had any issues with overheating.
my main gripe with this car is the fact it doesn't lock automatically... I'm gonna get that kit you're making to fix that. I drive alot and for my job I travel to multiple retail stores and some areas are questionable... and having the handle stick out when it's unlocked is an invitation to rummage through the car imo. It's the only anxiety I have with this car. Range isn't an issue like it was back in December. I stopped using Lvl3 regen and switched to Lvl1 and found that letting it coast like I did when I had a gas car really improves the range. I went from 210mile range on Lvl3 Regen to 265mile range on Lvl1 regen
I also use the Max Regen paddle from time to time, but that new handy dandy widget doesn't seem to show much difference except for using it at highway speeds.
My other thing I noticed is, HDA is frickin awesome, as well as the steering assist. I can literally just go hands free most of the time and be able to one hand my lunch while I'm traveling between stores. It's one of my favorite features on this car besides its comfort and space. Driving as much as I do every day, I need it. Lane Change Assist is garbage tho. but I'll let that slide
And I noticed the same "jerking" you mentioned when coming to a stop. I hate that so much, it's so jarring, it's like the regen kicks off and then lets the car "cruise" until you brake. Sometimes makes me frickin dizzy

I've enjoyed your content very much, thank you.
I have an 2022 EV6 GT-Line 2 in Canada. We have had similar experiences with the cars and your suggestions on accessories and issues to watch out for were very helpful. The "wireless AA" Carlink is an interesting addition. I can use Car Scanner on the info screen and watch a charge or a video. I did just swap the battery out for a 12 volt AGM battery and didn't go for a lithium one. The battery died once when I had the car on display at an EV event and a few days ago i came out to use it and it was absolutely dead and needed the key to get to the battery pack to bring it back to life. I put it on a deep cycle charge and will see if it can hold the voltage. Battery pack is a necessary accessory!
I did have a failed Infotainment and map update with the October 2023 release (KIA said it was incompatible to my car, I didn't hear of anyone else with the problem) and was able to update when they released a new version in December,

We’ve had no issues with the front parking sensors because our SE doesn’t have any. Otherwise after two years the only issue has been the USB data port. It took a year to resolve but now works fine. We’re happy with our purchase and plan to be driving it for years to come. The two year average efficiency has been 4.2 miles per kWh.

I'm a Mach-E owner. The Ioniq 5 wasn't released yet when I needed a car, so I've always been super curious about the competition.
Ford has had plenty of its own issues, so a lot of the things you mention don't surprise me. I've personally been affected by the HVBJB issue, and I had also a defective APIM module due to COVID shenanigans (the manufacturer intentionally mislabeled a part for the F-150 Lightning as for the Mach-E due to shortages).
I'm glad Hyundai is figuring out navigation and preconditioning. I feel like that's a huge reason to buy an Ioniq 5, so it was a little surprising they didn't have that software ready at release.
The V2L is another huge purchase point. Jim Farley (Ford CEO) said he was surprised to find out that was one of the main reasons people were purchasing the F-150 Lightning. Hopefully the Mach-E gets it in a future refresh!

10:04 my biggest complaint is the update made the brake lights too sensitive to regen. My wife followed me home and asked why I was constantly riding the brakes. I guess even the slightest use of regen would turn on the brakes lights even when cruise control is set and the car just maintains speed going down the slightest hill.
With my 2017 Ioniq it would only come on when it hit a certain deceleration limit.
The update made it way too sensitive.

I bought new a 2023 Ionic 5 in June of 2023. The car has been 100% everything and them some of what was expected. Compared to some of your other videos it looks like some of the quicks, (i.e. hatch knocking) 2022 experience have been corrected, at least from my experience.
The biggest complaint I have is the vehicle comes with no spare/donut wheel. It only has a tire repair kit which can be a catastrophe if more then just a flat tire happens; my bad for not checking. If I do only just get a flat I would still rather change the wheel on the side of the road and deal with a repair later. Would not have been a deal breaker buying the car but would have used that as leverage towards something off the price or get dealer to provide.
Agree on the brake light issue, I too like to drive in I-Pedal mode. I have found the brake lights activate the instant the car goes from accelerating and goes into the regeneration mode. Driving in NY on the LIE get a lot of annoyed drivers that think Im breack checking them resulting in flashing lights, extreme passing with their own break checks once in front, and have even gotten the the 1 finger salute. At first I was doing something wrong, after a couple of months I suspected the brakes lights and confirmed having a friend drive behind me.
Aside from these 2 issues everyting else has been great and the 1 or 2 other things Im not crazy about are just minor inconveniences. I only use the Ionic 5 as a commuter car driving 70 miles round trip for work daily and I utilize the HOV with it saving a lot of time. But ultimately this car has been awesome. Started to research for solar installation and might look to see what the 2025 Ionic brings to the table if worth jumping into another this quick. Maybe will wait to see a review from you if you buy one............
Thanks for the videos and reviews, well done and look to the next.

Hey Corbin on the regen slowdown on a highway I know you talked about the jerking and I’m wondering if that is because of the front motor engaging on an AWD since the higher levels of regen needs the front motor to be engaged while driving at highway speeds usually disengages the front motor?

I agree with one big comment. I never think about range anymore. I charge at night (solar panels) 95 percent of the time) . On the couple of long trips I’ve taken (California/colorado) I just go to the charger ABRP says. I’m rarely back to the car before it is done charging . I worry about it less than if I had a gas car that needed gas stations
Comment about the solar panels. They pay off immediately. The cost rarely is as much as the increase in the house value.

Question is, will the dealer fix it or acknowledge that it needs fixing, or even being advised “keep the bass down and the rattle goes away”. I have been watching your videos for a while and love the details. I am an owner and love the car and big reason I bought the car was your detailed and helpful videos. However, there are two annoying things I have noticed and wondering if you know a fix for them or have any insight:
    1. If I walk to the car - trunk side - it automatically opens the trunk, but it does not automatically open the door after closing the trunk. I always have to use the key or the small button on the handle. It is annoying when you have more things in your hand. Also, it feels like a bug.
    a. Is there a way to adjust this so the car door opens when the trunk detects the key presence?
    b. Is there a way to reduce the 5 beeps it takes to open the trunk? It is annoying to just wait. Three beeps would have been ideal for me.
    2. When driving on the cruise control feature on a highway, if I change lanes and there is a significant gap between current speed and cruise speed (say 10+ miles/hr), the car accelerates rapidly, feeling a bit dangerous. Is there a way to control this, or have you heard of similar complaints? After driving for some time, I have become mentally aware of this behavior, but I wish there could be a way to reduce the risk.

I have a 2022 Ioniq 5 that I've driven for 18 months and the only issue I've had was the usb port which got replaced. I recently switched to a Rivian R1S that I had on preorder so my wife now drives the Ioniq 5. The biggest difference I've noticed between the 2 vehicles is the software. The Rivian is just light years ahead in terms of usability and functionality. I wish Hyundai/Kia would invest more in software development in their future vehicles because they have great products but are held back due to inferior software.

On your comment about a rattle from the passenger side door.. I heard similar noise a few times but only when the seat was unoccupied. It turned out the metal buckle in the seat belt was hitting against the plastic trim. The solution seems to be to ensure the buckle is behind the retainer tab built into the seat belt and that retainer tab rests against the door trim and not the metal buckle. Regarding the brakes, in the Ioniq 6, the brakes lights can go on even if you are accelerating. Like you are in a downhill so stiff if accelerates you even in Lv1. But since it’s Lv1, the lights go on. Oh and when you go back to level 0 and the car accelerates due to gravity, it keeps them on. That’s totally fucked up.
Another think with regen combined with ACC: sometimes, it does not regen. It uses the friction brakes in order to slow down (or maintain speed while going downhill). The regen still works: I disengage the ACC and use the regen manually, but with ACC, it uses friction brakes. Some of the logic here is absurd.
Otherwise, I agree with most of the things you said (having an Ioniq 6, not 5).
Especially the heated stirring wheel. Also, I wish they could have the heated seats with bluelink. Having talked to the bluelink people, they told me that this won’t be done since it would use the 12V battery. Complete BS if you ask me: like the heated steering wheel does not use the 12V? They want to keep that for their other models, I guess. Understandable, in a way, but first they could just say so, and second, well, that’s not how they’ll keep their clients, by soft-blocking functionalities from a totally capable machine.

Any 2023 or newer Ioniq 5 has a heat pump so as long as you’re not getting a 2022, you’re good. My coworker has a 23 RWD and he’s seeing more like 3 miles/kWh right now and with my AWD I’m seeing about 2.4. I also has winter tires though which are stickier so more rolling resistance

Would you consider buying an SE? No one ever reviews it, but I think it's a more important and efficient car than the Limited. I love my 2022 SE as much, or more, today as I did 26k miles ago. I don't want any other car and don't plan on selling it. I think Hyundai plans to sell more SE models than any other.

I really like the Ioniq5. I was thinking about the Ford Mach E but I read about all its software issues. The salesman at Ford told me they are pushing the customer to purchase extended warranty in case of software problems. This is only for the software issues and you get a discount on rental cars if you need one. What a bunch of garbage. So ioniq 5 is my next car in 2025 with the nacs connection and rear wiper.

I decided to look for a specific EA station and save it as a favorite and found a recently opened EA. I had (re-) updated the system when someone suggested there had been a charge so maybe it was added then or maybe they are bring added over the air. Either way it’s a good thing that I stumbled in to. I had verified that it wasn’t there the first time I put in the latest update so something charged. When I compared the files there were a few changes besides the updater program itself being updated. “Map Version” was not updated but NEEV23.USA.S5W_M.V011.004.231004 was updated to NEEV23.USA.S5W_M.V011.005.231215. When I get home I’ll see if the Map Version was been updated over the air.

@@TheIoniqGuy Technically Jeff claimed there was a change even though it didn’t look like one on the surface. Basically I used a new (virgin) thumb drive to download and install like I had not did the fall update. I can’t find that TH-cam exchange with Jeff or the screen photos I took at the time. My wife drives the car and I honestly can’t remember what the OTA looks like or if there is a prompt to accept it. I know I personally didn’t accept it. I’m usually the guy updating it manually rather than waiting. However it was in the shop for a 12V issue so maybe they updated it as a matter of routine after the repair.

@@TheIoniqGuy Verified there have been no changes since 1/1/24 when I manually updated it. So the only thing it could be is the Software version listed above or I somehow missed the new charger. Maybe the search engine was refined. I just know I bumped in to it when searching for another charger. 🤷🏻 Strange the version changed after I updated the first time. Can you confirm it against yours.
