Great demo. With these new workstation/synth demos it's usually the pianos, organs and strings. Nice to hear what the "sounds" are all about .. pads, waveforms, FX and imagination .. what the techs were dreamin' up.
That's how you demo. No talk hype. Just get a pro like Adam Berzowski to demo it properly and let the instrument sell itself. I just purchased the 7. Now I need to find Adam's tutorial videos for it! LOL
The modern day synth is a formidable beast "I want one". Your no Roy Bittan or Alan Clark but boy are the sounds fantastical. Filters and AD/DA converters you could only dream about in the 80s and 90s unless you had a huge equipment budget these sorts of sounds were just beyond your reach. Loving the advances in musical tech. Enjoy your new toy lucky you sir.
Now we're talking! This is what will sell this beast! The closest thing to an arranger keyboard for real synthesis enthusiasts. Yes, the pianos and acoustic instruments are stellar but this sets it apart. Thanks man.
Nice little noisemaker. For those nights you are totally pissed and home alone with nothing to do. Thanks I enjoyed this demo needed to hear more about the modx pads, plucks and general synth sounds. You covered a lot thanks again. Going for mine next week.
I had no luck with this Yamaha Modx 8. This instrument started to click on the keys 3 weeks after the purchase. After longer programming, the display has stopped freezing. I had to send it back. Poor plastic box. Clever Montage copy.I'm sorry because the inner part and the sound generator are excellent. I'm going to Nord.
Nice demo of this great value for money synth, I wonder what the the Wonderful pioneer of electronic music Jean Michelle Jarre would make of the MODX? He's probably the proud owner of the flagship Montage added to his amazing collection of analog synths!
Im a great fan of Yamaha and own the motif xs but it s sad to know that 3 generations down the line since the Motif Xs that yamaha hasnt as yet included dedicated trigger pads on their falgship synths that work independantly from the rest of keyboard to trigger samples loops etc etc. I also own a Roland Fantom X6 and they have done this around 14 years back on their synths and so have other companies since then. There is plenty of space on the control panel to add in at least 8 trigger pads to do various actions. I would love to see this on the next range of synths. This would make Yamaha synths the ultimate machine on the planet to own. Come on Yamaha listen to your fans. Tnks
Neither Korg nor Roland has implemented that today. Hell! To my best knowledge we haven't even seen a top level workstation since the G series come out.
Have been looking for this board since the Privia Pro PX5S, which was/is amazing at the price point but lacking in some sound areas. Goodbye MP7, PX5S and all others I've plowed through.....hello MODX-8. This board with a KronosX-61 is the ultimate (hardware) travel rig.
arqamdo I think this demonstrates the modulation capacity which is massive and more apropos for an fm synth focused workstation. And personally I think this is a great example. Peace Christo
Not only synthezizers. MODX DO have а sample-based engine, too ( although not demonstrated in this video). The same as Montage's one, as far as I can see by some other videos. Furthermore, on MODX homepage, Yamaha offers free download of Bosendorfer piano library for all MODX owners (that offer would be strange if there were no sample engine in MODX, I think).
In case someone hasn't told you lately ... you are SICK! I could sit here and listen to you play for the rest of the night. 8:52 sounds like you're going into a Vangelis mode. So beautiful. I just bought the MODX6 and haven't even taken it out of the box because I was unsure whether I would use it. I bought the Yamaha Montage 7 last July and have only played it for 10 hours at the most. The reason I bought the MODX6 is it's a lot lighter and can take it to church to run it through the church speakers or the Rodgers Organ's Midi. We'll see. What do you think of the PXR-900? Any better than this? Just curious! Thanks so much for sharing this. Totally, totally awesome!
If you really want to know go to a Guitar Center that has the board. Otherwise I would imagine this the same it's Sunday Yamaha MOXF series. Graded Hammer, matte feel but I believe they will loosen up a bit once you break them in and get two more of an original MO8 feel.
Baymond Rell yep this synth is very sweet I have a collection of synths from ensoniq esq1 to this new beast I love it I Evan put my DX7iifd gray matter away.
It appears that MODX, like the Montage, is professionally CRIPPLED by the inability to assign the MIDI receive channel per part. I'm still in disbelief that this core functionality (necessary for programming splits and layers for external controllers, such as a second keyboard), was senselessly stripped from MODX and Montage, despite being present in EVERY OTHER flagship synth on the market, including Motif! Despite repeated and numerous complaints, Yamaha has done absolutely NOTHING to correct this oversight. Apparently, Yamaha simply no longer cares if you intend to use MODX or Montage as a master keyboard. Performing musicians, BEWARE!!!
sooo, do you mean the Receive or the Transmit channel per part? Because if you are talking about not being able to set the midi Transmit channel per part/zone to control external modules, this definitely kills all the perfect master keyboard functions the Motif series had...
Robert Mirabelle As for RCV channels: agreed. My Roland RD-2000 suffers from the same disease. It’s a shame! :(( But what has this to do with master keyboard abilities? Can’t you even assign TX channels per part on the MODX?
Nice keyboard. BUT. The action feels cheap to me. For the 88 Key version MODX 8 Vs. Montage 8 no comparison. The Montage is like night and day on the feel. As for the non weighted versions, my DX7IIFD feels better to me. Of course in both cases I'm use to playing what I own but it was night and day vs. MODX. With a good controller, I'd just get the MODX 6 as a tone generator. I agree with others, if Yamaha made this in a rack it would likely be a big hit.
Hi, interesting comment thanks. My MODX6 is due in the next day ... going down the exact same route you stated: GEM S3 Turbo 76-key master controller (has both Poly AT + Release Velocity, though MODX only responds to Poly AT according to MIDI implementation chart 😢) with MODX6 sitting right above, with FC-7 Yam foot controller. Hoping that works out for me!! A large 'desktop' synth right?! 😉
hi @the audio eng! did your modx arrive yet? does your setup work as planned? I am planning on doing the same as you did' just I didn't pull the trigger yet on the board because some people told me the the modx is shit when it comes to being a tone generator alone.. then again I don't get what makes a board "shitty" or not in this perspective.... thanks in advance!
These boards are for gigging musicians/LIVE performance.....not target marketed for your home bedroom studio (although of course can be used in that regard). Anyone that travels and plays live can instantly see the value of having pretty much a Montage in a 30lb case is a no brainer. Live performers understand that there is a "give and take" on features....it's the sound that counts and this board delivers in SOUND, features, weight and price point.
@@BaymondRell I agree with your live gig, light weight advantage. My disappointment on keyboard action is that Yamaha back in its DX7II days, Yamaha already provided a very nice action. Why not in 2018 make a really great keyboard feel cheap when so many years ago you made such a nice product. I'll also add, I was at 2 Guitar Centers over the last month. In both cases they report selling 1 88 key MODX , and one of the employees took advantage of a deal to dealers and got 1 of maybe 100 MODX6 keyboards at I think $800. In all cases the stores already expected these to fly off the shelf, but aren't.
So many practical sounds for the covers band. Imagine those 25 minute long evolving prog-rock numbers that have people up on their feet dancing all night long... I hope I get one for my 57th birthday. Gives me an idea for a 4 LP record. The Arse Side Of The Mooner.
You'd obtain better result by dropping just your fingers from approximately 0.01 meter high onto this synth keyboard! I prefer my synths not to run away when I play on them. So the heavier the better.
This is a synthesizer. There are separate videos demonstrating piano only but many of them are commentary reaming them because if the main populous was just concerned about pianos, they would get an arranger or a stage board
Bacardi Jr. You got that right makes me sick whin people want acoustic sounds from a synth I remember people complaining about the roland d50 not having good pianos and guitars but it shure had some sweet sounds.
I can hear the digital stepping of the filters. No smooth transitions. Cold. This machine was conceived in the dark ice kingdom. Yamaha and Roland has turned to the dark side. They switched sides with Behringer.
This demo sounds as if its marketed to club DJ's or elextronica bands.....what about the worship leaders that will use this? Or the guys trying to recreate the sounds of Phil Collins or Bon Jovi for a cover band?
tried the montage and kronos and stage 3 at a music fair. Pianos/fenders/clavis - all instruments sound great. this category is down to personal tastes by now, all sound just great. Other accoustic sounds - montage kills it (listen to kronos brass sounds - laughable). Synth - i like that FM sounds "different" and can sound very mellow but also very harsh and "metallic" whereas subtractive sounds interchangeable - nothing special no matter who implements it. organ - nord kills it, hands down. real time controls - nord wins. so for me it's either nord or yamaha (and i'll go with yamaha). korg sound sortof "meh, ok" but has nothing really special (and those brass sounds are a disgrace). just my personal opinion - been gigging for 10 yrs with varying roland/nord/yamaha setup. i'll keep my nord and roland, upgrade the yamaha, won't go for the korg.
Now that's how you demo a synth. Not an electric piano, a SYNTHESIZER!
Amen!!!
Finally, a demo with synth sounds'
This Berzowski Guy is clearly VERY talented. Breaking out those icy arpeggios halfway through!
Inspiring.
Great demo. With these new workstation/synth demos it's usually the pianos, organs and strings. Nice to hear what the "sounds" are all about .. pads, waveforms, FX and imagination .. what the techs were dreamin' up.

Yes, the pianos and acoustic instruments are stellar but this sets it apart. Thanks man.
So nice to hear someone actually use a synth to make music with, rather than the usual succession of squeaks and buzzes.
Modx8 is amazing..I love it!
Nice little noisemaker. For those nights you are totally pissed and home alone with nothing to do. Thanks I enjoyed this demo needed to hear more about the modx pads, plucks and general synth sounds. You covered a lot thanks again. Going for mine next week.

It covers most features Montage users use. Incredible value.
But what's the price?
Superbe présentation enfin quelqu’un qui gère un synthétiseur bravo
Love the patch and riffs demoing it around 4:00. That's a mood.
LOVING THE VARIED SOUNDS OF THIS MODX.....EXCELLENT DEMO ALSO !
@JEFF WILLIAMSON please use your inside voice
Nice demo of this great value for money synth, I wonder what the the Wonderful pioneer of electronic music Jean Michelle Jarre would make of the MODX? He's probably the proud owner of the flagship Montage added to his amazing collection of analog synths!
This board would be my choice for creating a new age chill out album.
I HAD THE SAME IMPRESSION !
yes!!
Finally no one talks and more action.....Thank you

Exactly you right avish ...and other my blame is no have legato
Neither Korg nor Roland has implemented that today. Hell! To my best knowledge we haven't even seen a top level workstation since the G series come out.
korg m3 has them thats why i love the korg m3
Thank you for sharing this demonstration. It conveys a lot about the instrument. Much appreciated.
This is excellent! Even just to gather ideas on how to create a patch on your own workstation!
My style of music. Great sounds my man!
lol sounds like your making soundtracks for sci-fi movies
13:50 absolutely wow!
incredible work here friend

I hope they release FM-X in a DX200-like table top form factor. Rack might be fine too, but I want the big screen.
I really enjoyed playing Yamaha piano and write the lyrics from my tablet.
Great synth sounds and arp at 14:15
Yes, synthie sounds. No piano, of cause it's a synthesizer.
@gridsleep You just didn't get it.
Not acustic sounds, piano brass, guitars? only synthezizers/ Oh Oh!
Yep, not as versatile as a Montage, but apparently way less expensive, so probably a good piece of kit for studio, or niche electro bands.
Don’t worry there are piano sounds, that’s always good to know
arqamdo I think this demonstrates the modulation capacity which is massive and more apropos for an fm synth focused workstation. And personally I think this is a great example. Peace Christo
Check the other video

Play that thing, man.
amazing
Baby Montage!
This is pretty cool, nice modulation! Might be willing but I'm running out of space!
At last,a good demo,not that"look!how good i can play"show!
I need to zone with mine tomorrow
They should make a modx rack version.
It's called an EX5R
Yes
good Chill video.
this would be deadly with karma
Wow it's good isn't it
Shut up, and take my Money. i want this NOW :) time to say bye bye to, my stuff, :)
How's the keybed / action? Would it hold up to a trained pianist vs something like the Montage or Yamaha's higher end EPs? The 88, I mean.
If you really want to know go to a Guitar Center that has the board. Otherwise I would imagine this the same it's Sunday Yamaha MOXF series. Graded Hammer, matte feel but I believe they will loosen up a bit once you break them in and get two more of an original MO8 feel.
I made comments above regarding action. To me MODX feels cheap. The Montage feels much better to me. As we all know, "You Get What You Pay For"
You can travel with a Montage (if you have one)...I'll travel with this.
Baymond Rell yep this synth is very sweet I have a collection of synths from ensoniq esq1 to this new beast I love it I Evan put my DX7iifd gray matter away.
16 minutes and on reminds me a bit of Front Line Assembly.
i want one !
Me too!
Me 3

just use a motif xf7 as a controller lol.....thats what i do. and a montage 61 as a slave for dx stuff
I like the bell majestic demo the most, that's for now
8:51 + dub me 11:51
14.00 was good. Got ideas.
or just wait a couple years and buy a used Montage
Do they sound exactly the same as montage? Or is this anohlrjer markeitig scheme.
Same sound engine, yes
the exact same engines, just less controls, less FX (still lots though) and in plastic chassis rather than metal.

Tons of boards for gigging musicians have had great keybeds... the DX7 is the perfect example. That is simple not a valid excuse.
If it only had Karma and a 6gb piano

MOX8+DX=MODX8
Mox8+DX-sequencer=MODX in my opinion.
and plus expansion space like the MOXF, but internal and somewhere around 700mb.
16:14 shivers
Great
Drop that synth!
Hey, I'd love to drop this synth from approximately 100 metres high. These synths are huge, heavy and cool.
Peace ✌️ out people

But we want to listen acoustic sound ?

Can't be true
is that instrument has built in any rhythm ?! everybody showing only sounds . but not rhythm though !!
This is a reVIEW!
I can hear the digital stepping of the filters. No smooth transitions. Cold. This machine was conceived in the dark ice kingdom. Yamaha and Roland has turned to the dark side. They switched sides with Behringer.
PLEASE HAVE YOUR EARS CHECKED SIR !
Meh
Contrairement au kronos...
C est du n'importe quoi ce synthé...
Pourriez-vous nous expliquer en quoi c'est du grand n'importe quoi, le MODX ??
This demo sounds as if its marketed to club DJ's or elextronica bands.....what about the worship leaders that will use this? Or the guys trying to recreate the sounds of Phil Collins or Bon Jovi for a cover band?
there are cheesy pianos on there for those folks, of course
Always that same rhytm,it gets annoying
Is this what folkes call music today ?
Pretty much. I think I'll go back to my piano.
i loved it...to each his own
Booring demo
so overvalued jesus
Yes my child
Apresentation bad
too synthetic sounding ---KORG KROSS 2 WAY BETTER AND CHEAPER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kross2 ain't anywhere on par in acoustic sounds, and its FM-like sounds will never compete with the FM engine in the MODX/Montage
Mostly racket
Racket? And yet he has over 93,000 subscribers and yet you are here. Bloody ridiculous.
Extremely bad demo
extremely bad observation
Can u do it better ??? 🤔🙄🙄
More fodder for the no real musical talented.
you think this takes no talent? hah...
youre arrogant...and an idiot
