there's three states of Bionicle knowledge. You don't knwo what they were, you only know a few sets or you can recite every signle bit of lore and all set names from memory without a stutter

They’re never “bad” per say and as long as you love jets and ridiculous child-fantasy like air combat, which to be honest, is awesome. Like I love SIM flight games but they just don’t scratch the itch of literally wiping entire air forces out in a 30 minute span

This was my childhood right here man. I loved Bionicle as a kid and 2006 was by far my most favorite year for them. When i got sick with bronchitis that developed into pneumonia, my parents bought me this as a sorta "get well" gift and i loved the hell out of it, id love to get my hands on this game again.

I re-played this like half a year ago and I got to 98% but then I accidenty started a new save on top of my 98% save wasting 1 month of work, then I renamed the game to : "you fucked up" and it's still there.... haunting me
I got a gane in my ds at 99% complete abd I have no idea what I'm missing. It's driving me nuts

I'm just confused at how Nuparu the Friggin' Engineer isn't the one who builds stuff in the game. He and Hewkii should have totally had their special abilities swapped.
Iruni and Norik were, in fact, supposed to be the Toa versions of Nidhiki and Turaga Dume

This was one of my favorite games as a kid . Though I'm surprised you didn't show Nuparu's fully upgraded weapon. The thing becomes like a grenade launcher that shoots black holes.
I'd always stand on top of the archway over the level select and try and launch Nuparu's grenades into Balta's shop
hero mode invulnerability kind of ruins the game, but in some boss fights it actually gets surprisingly difficult, not that i had much issue with it but wooo Nuparu carried me once i got him fully upgraded, hes got basically a smart grenade launcher because you can press fire right after to detonate it early
WE should hold him to this, WE gon' get that 24 hour stream of these bionicles built!
Oboeshoes is the only legend who still cares about Bionicles and give the new generation history of the lore
I didn't watch/play with Bionicle back in the day but that live performance clip with the Bionicle dancers makes me crack up everytime!
According to Greg Farshtey, the Toa Iruni design was considered to be used for a pre-mutation Nidhiki:
"The original idea for those models was that they would be Toa Nidhiki and Toa Dume -- this was scrapped when Bob decided he might want to tell a larger story about those characters someday, so he did not want them out this year. So we decided the next best thing to do is make them Toa Iruini and Toa Norik so we can tell the Rahaga origin story."
However, this other quote from Greg suggests the mask design may not have been on purpose - the similarities were noticed after the fact by the story team:
"...actually, the sets were never "originally" anything, really, because the set designers don't think in terms of characters when they design. When they were shown to the story team, someone suggested that was who they could be. The head of the story team at that time, Bob Thompson, said no, because he might want to tell a Toa Nidhiki or Toa Dume story down the road and so he didn't want sets out for them now. The whole conversation took about three seconds at which point the idea was scrapped."
I guess only the designers themselves would know, but it sure does look intentional to me!
Anyway, time to get back to listening to this game's soundtrack while doing nothing
It never made sense to me how the story and toy teams apparently never talked to each other. I think that was a big reason a bunch of sets represented characters who showed up for a few pages of a comic or something, but a lot of really important characters like Helryx or Tuyet never got sets.
In short, it was really weird that major characters in a toy line never got toys. It'd be like if Optimus Prime was only mentioned in books

This game was definitely one of my favorites, completely different from the other "standard Lego games" and the piraka playground was pretty sick

As a kid i used to think this was the best game ever, i still think it is, it does stimulate something in my brain
You're right on the money; the Iruni was originally meant to be pre-mutation Nidhiki. The Norik was also meant to be the Toa form of Turaga Dume. If memory serves, they only changed it so it was referencing characters from that year (the Rahaga) instead of ones from the prior year. If you're curious, there was a fan contest and winners for designs for the rest of the Toa Hagah.
The DS version of Bionicle Heroes was absolutely amazing. That game had the coolest environments ever, it really made you want to explore that world. It's a shame it's unplayable via emulation because of the unorthodox control scheme.
I liked, favorited, and was already subscribed. Looking forward to the 24 hour Bionicle assembly stream!
During the designing process there was a short period where the Toa Hagah were supposed to be Toa Dume and Toa Nidhiki, but that idea got scrapped rather quickly.

I think my least favorite about oboeshoes is that he unlocks memories from my childhood about bionicles that I had forgotten in place of important social skills.
The game has motion blur even when the camera is static. Cool feature
I have so many fond memories of this game. I played this nonstop as a kid, I probably have hundreds of hours played, it was one of the only games my gross Dell PC could run properly. I also thought the Piraka playground was the funniest thing ever to the point to where I would constantly pester my parents to come and see the funny Bionicle do funny things on the funny playground. I love you.

I played that game as a kid so much, I still remember a ton of bugs, glitches and funny exploits you could do with it.. Man, Lego games just hit different when you’re a kid.

if you want to, you can get a CR927 battery and replace the one that died, pretty sure the bottom of the piece can be opened, just be careful to not break it

As someone who read the books as a child, this was amazing.

Even as a kid, the anachronisms had my head spinning. The repetition and simple difficulty (invincibility not being a cheat?!) just exacerbated matters.

I thought it was funny how he was talking about iruini being nidhiki pre mutation because that was actually their original idea as well as norik being toa dume, but they just decided to make a new toa team that had both figures instead of two entire new teams lol
This game was a absolute banger
My favorite think about this game is the map design (well also the music but we're gonna talk about map design.) Just about every level in a certain world ends where the next level of that world begins. Even though it may not feel like it with all the jumping back to the hub, eagle eyed players can eventually catch on to the fact that they are actually going on an adventure and following one long path to the Piraka. Some levels even have portions that loop back on each other. Really makes the world feel connected. Granted, that's because behind the scenes the Zamor levels and Titan levels were originally the same level... but its still cool!
2:17 Onepu is a lazy piece of shit who shirked his responsibilities to make Taipu do all this work, and a snob who talked down on anyone he met. Nuparu is a chad engineer who built a giant mecha with hook fists to beat the shit out of giant bugs. He just casually carries a welding torch around everywhere he goes. Badass
5:29 This ain't a conspiracy. The set designers flat out confirmed that Norik and Iruini were supposed to be Dume and Nidhiki.
6:45 Up until like my last year of high school my brother and I would 100% this game together at least once a year together. We loved it!

I miss the Bionicle series. Used to love playing them. All I remember is when your family or clan or whatever gets liked attacked on this green mountain island or some shite
Probably rose-tinted nostalgia goggles on, but I remember enjoying the DS version MUCH more as a whole. The first person perspective was much better aesthetically compared to the awkward over-the-shoulder style this one went for.
The DS one was way better overall
Visorak are actually the only enemy type aside from the Piraka that are backed up by the lore. The first thing Thok did when he arrived on the island was to defeat a nearby Visorak .
