What is the privated Bionicle video.
JETT! PLEASE MAKE ANOTHER VIDEO ON TRANSFORMERS!ABOUT SMASH BOT OR THE MAINLINE TOYS. I LOVE YOUR CONTENT AND HOPE YOU HAVE A GOOD REST OF YOUR YEAR! Bye
@JettKuso Hey Jett when you and PyrusQueen continue watching the Gen 3 show don't forget to watch episode 5
Excuse me sir,yes sir! where is 2004 please?i need my red boy vakama jet, come onnn jettttyyy you gotta have something.....
The shocked audience reactions to the Rahkshi get funnier when you consider that these scenes were removed in the German dvd cut of the movie to keep the child friendly rating.
That’s amazing and I forgot that happened!
It didn’t scare me as a kid, in fact I thought it was freakin rad, but looking back the Rahkshi having their faces split open like a flower to reveal their Kraata was maybe a bit too hardcore for a kid’s movie
scared me. ran out of the room
Wow, that’s new to me and pretty crazy!
I hated the fact that we only got these cut versions, not just with madk of light
Basicly all exept Legend Reborn were changed for the german versions even thou i would have loved the full versions
The creation of the first 3 rakshi for example were cut but the later 3 werent..... so dumb.... or the small scene after they blasted open the suva at the great temple, they removed the "jumpscare" where the one rakshi stuck its hand up from the hole
They also cut the simular scene from the beginning in Web of shadows too WICH WAS MEANT TO BE A MORE CREEPY MOVIE!!! WHY GERMANY? WHY?????
Literal chills from Jallers words when giving the mask to Takua
The Rahkshi were definitely intimidating enemies for the toa nuva, but they were nothing compared to the makuta of the Phantoka wave! Antroz looked like an actual demon and I loved it! Each one felt almost as evil as Teridax. Wish the toa nuva from the Phantoka/Mistika wave were better though. Would’ve been nice if they used the old nuva masks but with an axle piece instead of the peg.
Vamprah was one of my 2 all-time favorite bionicles right beside Toa Iruni
That story at the end was way more touching that I was prepared for in a video about Boncles.
I loved your Story of your Future-Past using the bionicle Toys in place! I loved how you Felt related to Takua's Adventures. I also loved the toys at a box representing the Grown-ups table! You were Takua, Gali was your Mom, Tahu was Your Dad! and Makuta your Uncle? whatever the case It was a perfect Representation of Your Legend!

We finally get the Bionicle video
One thought i've always had about this movie is how fast it would've been over if Takua put on the mask right after he found it.
Also i find it funny that Takanuva's power is to essentially cast smite.
man cant wait for the later years of bionicle!
these bionicle videos are AMAZING
Dog you exude 2000s vibes. You to this day look and sound like some kid I’d see in a NERF ad.
Did you know that the only reason takua’s mask was blue is because he was actually an av-matoran (matoran of light) though he did not know this himself. This is also why he could become the toa of light!
22:20 I appreciate your restraint. It's become rather hard for me to find emotionally supportive, physically affectionate male friendships in recent years without so many people jumping on the "this is clear evidence they're queer" wagon. Kind of gets tiring after awhile reading/watching people imply over and over again that these things aren't for the heteros.
That said, really loved this literary analysis of an old childhood favorite. Also really liked the personal story at the end, it really helps put into perspective how stories that we "understand" don't fully "click" until we put them into a more human perspective.
Even my queer reading of this story doesn’t actually have anything to do with “Jaller and Takua being gay for each other” lol, though people seem to be assuming that’s my implication. There’s like ZERO romantic charisma between the two of them IMO, they’re solid pals.
@@JettKuso Nah, I get it. Was more venting at a repeating pattern I've watched for essentially a decade of being involved in fandom spaces more than anything else.
@@awesomesauce980 Fair! I think shipping culture is more of the issue than anything. People need a better grasp on lenses and dialectics, but everyone acts like their ships MUST be canon.
I wish the lack of good gay representation, and the want to read queerness even when it isn’t overt, didn’t conflict with the lack of representation for positive, platonic male friendships. Everyone’s grasping for the same straws.
I watched the first movie last year and that was when I knew I wouldn't mind finally getting into Bionicle. Maybe it's best I waited till I could afford it.
Really can't relate to you finding the movie versions of the characters creepy. When I was 7 years old watching the movie for the first time I thought they looked perfect.

I still think introducing the mask of time as like, the second of _three_ Deus Ex Machinas in a row was a bit of a clumsy implementation into the story.

Anyone else kinda annoyed that Thai barely used his mask ability in the movie? I’d share my other opinions but this comment would be longer and the script for Transformers The Last Knight😅
I HAD NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT WHY TAKANUVA'S MASK USED AN AXLE TO ATTACH
Holy shit, mind-blown.
To be fair, it would have worked better had they gone back to the stud for the Toa Metru. It's more likely that they just did this to create a more reliable joint for the masks since later releases were going to be less focused on them, and the lore just kinda lined up properly.
@@VestedUTuberOn the contrary, it shows just how diminished the Toa Mata and Nuva were compared to the Golden Age Toa and due to the canister degradation.
@@Bionickpunk
Except the Toa Metru were weaker, at least initially, but those were the first full team to use axles rather than studs.
@@VestedUTuberTo also be fair, the axles make them much more MOCable.
@@Draezeth
It definitely does, although in most (not all) situations where you would use them like that, you could still use an OG bionicle head as an attachment point. Wouldn't be as secure, though.

As long as it sells"
I think he was worried that romantic attraction would imply sex at some point, and that's not why they are called *Bonk*le. If I remember, Greg was pro what we now call platonic love, wanting to be together because we make each other stronger, wanting to be together in spite of those that seek to divide us further and further, not satisfied until we are compartmentalised individuals living in fear of the other.
Not only was this made for six-year-olds, there's also a massive gender disparity in the characters. If this franchise had shipping, it would be gay or love triangles. It's better off without it.

The Rahkshi are easily some of the best villains to appear in any children’s media ever. Everything about their design in both the sets and the movie is just so cool and intimidating.
It’s also quite funny that they were given pearlescent parts that make their colours brighter than the Toa instead of darker like you’d expect from villains, and that somehow works perfectly.
The movie designs really upped the anti. The sets were great but as a kid I never expected their faces to rip open when they screamed.

If you're a fan of Death Note, get this:
Matsu from Bionicle 2 and 3 is voiced by the English voice actor for Ryuk

And Jaller is MegaMan.EXE.

38:14 Dude, this is beautiful. For some reason the way you compare the bionicle to family and friends together with the subtly movement make them come to life in some way, and it kinda makes them feel like much more than just simple toys. Like each figure represents a part of your life. I love bionicle and watching this video and this scene in particular made me look at my own collection and appreciate the toys even more
I've come to really enjoy Bionicles as models, cause like... The masks are JUST expressive enough and yet JUST blank enough that you can read so much emotion into them that isn't implicitly there. I'm glad you like it!!
@@JettKuso I totally get what you mean. When putting it like that I even start appreciating the Nuva masks a lot more than I used to. The tohunga/Matoran for me especially feel like they are in an expressive/expressionless middle ground that feels relatable yet alien at the same time, since they don’t have the same transparent eyes as the toa, which I’ve always loved. A lot of people prefer to swap the tohunga heads with mata heads so that they get the same eyes but to me personally I think it kind of ruins the charm of the little guys.
Another really great put together video!
Fun fact: the endgame for MNOG2 originally would have pitted Hahli against a Rahkshi in each village, putting her kohlii skills to the ultimate test! This is why the matoran and the rahkshi toys both have the "hockey gimic"!
I like how this can be understood as either Hahli fighting Rakshi with a kohlii stick, or her and Macku playing kohlii in the Rakshi league, against antidermis mechs twice their size.
Today I Learned!
Can we also mention how unbelievably hard Nathan Furst went on Mask of Light's soundtrack? A legit orchestral backdrop that made the movie seem like the epic that 8-year-old me thought it was.
You just did
All of his Bionicle movie soundtracks are certified classics. I love how he keeps the main theme motif thought all three movies, but altering it to fit the new setting and atmosphere.
He didn't need to go so hard, but we are _so_ glad he did.
He was the perfect man for job: there at the right time, doing the exact right thing.
And then it got recently released on Spotify too!
That Matoro bit had me laughing so hard I cried
The "Sports!" part of the video made me realize that Lego has been wanting something like Ninjago for a while.
A small game that you can play with Lego so there's another way to use then.
Didn't they give up on the game side of ninjago like immediately after the first wave though?
It seems more like it's a reoccurring theme of lego really really wanting to include game systems in there story series and then having to exclude them when that's not the reason people are getting them lmao. I could be wrong though
@@voidaspects9173 no Lego brought the spinjitzu mechanic to the toys quite a few times. There were the original top spinners, the ones that like burst open, and the flying ones, those are all the ones i can really remember. Lego also had a sports line in 2000 that involved mechanical or spring loaded toy mechanics with Basketball, Football/Soccer, and Hockey (which even used Bionicle parts in it, look them up they're...interesting). Not to mention the Lego board games they released in the early 2010's, so yeah Lego really has an obsession with game style play features, there's definitely way more i just can't remember
I really appreciate the anecdote at the end and the flip around from "Agh what is this great spirit, three virtues nonsense," to just an honest to god acceptance of unity, duty, and destiny as important principles. I love when a 'haha funny media" video turns into a look at the creator's personal story and what it'd left with them.
8:46 good bye Hero

"Do you know... what it takes to be a heeeroo!'
38:14 These comparisons are beautiful. I've always wanted to understand why I've grown so attached to this theme when also grew up with stuff like Hero Factory and Ninjago. I think I finally found out why.
Dude, that Matoro clip is priceless. Can't wait to see this series reach those years!
Great responsibilities is always very important for everyone. If someone doesn’t have great responsibilities, then they are nothing more than people who only care about themselves.
I watched this movie so many times as a kid, my VHS copy got corrupted. Probably by Makuta
Everything about the film, and the titan sets stuck with me. Anything Bionicle related are some of the most vivid memories of my childhood, but especially doI remember building Takanuva for the first time

RAKSHI- FIRST KNEES IN BIONICLE
Makuta, first elbows in Bionicle.
I gotta say this was probably your most entertaining bionicle video yet! The edits with the toys were hilarious and a lot of your analysis was super insightful, definitely looking forward to you covering Metru Nui!
There's a pretty good in-universe explanation for Takua's feet constantly changing color. Av-Matoran could manipulate the colors of their armor by their light powers (I know this isn't the case, but it's my headcanon xD)
You know me… always different!
The fact that Takua already was said to be subconsciously changing his colors to fit in makes this fit even more-he couldn't keep straight what color his feet were "supposed" to be 😂
From the repeated title changes to this video, it seems clear that Jett was expecting more views on it (no hate, this video deserves more views, it was awesome!) I just hope he keeps going with this series. The Bionicle mythos and the toys get so much better from here on. My nostalgia brain will always make me more of a Mata-Nui 'original Toa' arc fan, but objectively speaking, the Metru-Nui arc is superior in every way and the toys reflect that. In 2001, the idea of Toa with KNEES was unconceivable. And I don't care what anyone says, Vakama was easily the coolest Toa ever. My dude had hardcore imposter syndrome and still managed to make Makuta look like a chump on a couple of occasions
Your skills of observation are strong… I definitely intend to continue. This will not dissuade me. Some of the Bionicle years are simply less grabby to the nostalgia, it seems. Makes sense since 2003 was one of the weaker toy years, and I don’t really have a ‘movie video watcher’ demographic.
@@JettKuso TBH, I never really jived with this movie either. As a kid it was cool to see Bionicle get the movie treatment but compared to the online games it felt a little hollow to me at the time. With hindsight, it's a good adaptation of the world and the characters, but the sequel was when I truly got hooked into the mythos. While I love the Mata-Nui stuff, the storytelling remained vague enough that it felt like marketing dressed up as worldbuilding (because it kind of was), but the Metru-Nui arc changes the course of Bionicle completely. Even past the point that I was buying the toys, I was still invested in the story because of the seeds that were planted during the Metru-Nui arc.
I'm super happy to hear you're continuing with this video series because the next line is where things really start to heat up, both in terms of the sets and the storytelling. Sure, it begins the trend towards Bionicles being action figures foremost and some of the Lego Technic elements get lost in the shuffle, but it also opened the door to a level of characterization in the builds that hadn't been seen yet. The Dark Hunters particularly stand out to me. Nidhiki's design in both his set and the movie are just superb. It helps that there's so much supplementary story material, so that the design looks cool at first but then becomes tragic and horrifying for any kid who was staying up to date on the lore.
I'm really looking forward to the next video! If I had one wish, it would be that you take into account the accompanying book series. It may be a lot to read through, but they are pretty short and they fill out a lot of the story. If you're too busy or not interested that's very understandable, but I hope you at least give "Time Trap" a go. It's easily the best of the books and it covers some of the most pivotal events, not only in this arc, but in the entire Bionicle series as a whole.
I'd love to see a lego ninjago lore video from you since this brings back memories of the Green Ninja teaser and as a stupid children all of my friends and I all thought Jay the Blue lightning was gonna be the green ninja but it was obvious since Lloyd had a green 5 on his hoodie!
That green 5 on that Lloyd's hoodie was clever foreshadowing
13:43 FUN FACT

Also, the voice actor for Ryuk voices Toa Matau and Toa Whenua!
27:52 This reminds me of that part from Golden Wind where the boys are just beating the shit out of this random guy.

You can do it, Crossy. I believe in you. - Mata Nui
Just wanted to say these videos are excellent and honestly perfect retrospective overviews of the given Bionicle years. When it comes to Bionicle content on TH-cam it's usually a clean split between people who don't have as much of a personal connection and consider it a nostalgic oddity or people that like making a show of how deep the lore got and make hyper-long story dives; sorta missing the forest for the trees. These videos really communicate what made Bionicle so compelling while not losing focus of the primary media and main toys. While I'm approaching these videos as an existing Bionicle fan, I think these are just the right balance of detail and simplicity that anyone new could watch these and understand what made Bionicle special.
Keep up the good work, I await 2004!
This is EXACTLY the goal. Well said, and thank you!!
And here I was, for years, thinking I was the ONLY one afflicted and altered forever for my handling of those cursed Bionicles...
I didn't go into this expecting this to turn into a video essay on the first Bionicle movie, 'specially considering just about every other video I've seen covering the film defaulted to simplistic and surface-level commentary, but I'm not complaining.
This is the apex of the "Movie cliffnotes disguised as video essay" genre, from the irl gags to actually using the movie as jumpoff points to talk about the toys, and actually caring about the toys! I've never seen ANYONE talk about the "power scaling" of the toy swing arcs or mask attachments.
That’s what I’m here for 🫡
I kept rewatching the other 2 Bionicle videos for months. I’m so glad you are continuing with this series! Here’s hopes for more to come.
Hope he gets to do 2004 for it's 20th anniversary this year.

I genuinely mean this, this is the greatest TH-cam video I’ve ever seen.
Not only from my nostalgia but you play on everything so well and explain what’s needed in a great way. Came for the bakugan, staying for all the great content!
Oh boy, next up should be MY favorite Bionicle Movies!
2003 was a magical time for me. It was the year where I learned the actual story, after getting into the series in 2002 and latching onto the Bohrok because they were my first sets. Then in September of 2003, I got _The Official Guide to Bionicle_ and learned about the actual lore, the Toa, the existence of the Turaga and Matoran, all that. I awaited the movie with baited breath, and got as many of the movie-specific sets as I could amass.
I don't think I ever realized that the plot of Mask of Light was about growing up. It makes sense. I think that was also the point of the second movie as Vakama was going through the same deal as Takua. Although while Takua was a child who was afraid of growing up, Vakama was already an adult, but wasn't ready to take on adult responsibilities.
Yep Mask Of Light is kinda about is about being a kid afraid to grow up, and the second film is more about being an adult when you don't feel ready
I haven't thought about Bionicle for years, but you opened up some core memories for me! I remember keeping up with the storyline for a while through the comics, and now I really wish they'd release an omnibus of them so I can re-read them all.

Every fantasy novel, tv show, and toy line at the time had a made sport for one reason. Harry Potter did it with Quidditch so if you do it, its good world building. (but it wasn't) I think Lego tried to push Kohlii be cause they could build the action features around a sport and not around violence. That way they could just the hammer swinging action was perfectly justified as a non-violent toy. The fact that you had hammer swinging action figures that could fight and knock each other down was pure coincidence.
Absolutely goated, I can't wait for a Metru Nui video!
a thing I like is that the later reveals about Takua's past and destiny only serve to strengthen this character rather than dilute it. The 7 Toa Nuva discover a villiage of matoran of light in the literal heart of Mata Nui, and learn that matoran of light were hidden away across the world to keep them safe and that one day, one would become a Toa of light, and it adds this dimension to Takua's feeling that he was always different, and when they find this out, he has to come to terms with that fact that comepleting their mission in Karda nui will destroy this forgotten home that he had only just rediscovered.

far out...now I have to rewatch this movie to really soak in the queer subtext. That, and Onua being rupert murdoch
Conclussion: knees ruined Bionicle.
Please, PLEASE, do the queer perspective of Bionicle, I have a whole group of friends to shove this video through their thoats!
Yeah, Jala's little ab pouch was pretty uncanny for me too 😂 I just thought they were cool robots too
Great video, but now I have the strong urge to go buy more bionicles again. They really should start selling them again. 😭
This is so well done!!! I love the editing on this, plus the way you've described everything. Very engaging, so even people who know about this franchise will get a lot out of it, methinks! I think I'm gonna use these videos thus far to give my friend a crash course in BIONICLE. As someone who never got any of these as they were released, I enjoy hearing about how you interacted with the toys and the story! (I'm watching these out of order, so this is my first one).
I hope you’ll enjoy the other two!
