    The issues are because the lighting is changing as it rotates so the shadows especially on the front of the bear change as it moves. You either need a super soft light directly over the bear or to have the lights move with the turntable.

    I have worked extensively with Kinect One. Kinect uses the accelerometer to map its movement from the object and then creates a point cloud data. However, if you have a turn table it is confused in creating the point cloud data.

      Thats really dumb ahaha, but I guess we are stuck with it for now

    I saw a helpful video which no other video showed before using version 2. They updated their driver through windows settings before opening up 3D scan. Then used 3D builder to finish their scan and they were turning.

      Great to read you liked it! If you have ideas for other topics I should cover, just ask me to make a video about it.

    Hey you are a saint thank you so much for making content on using the Xbox One Kinect for scanning. More of a digital 3D guy myself than 3D printing, excited to use your methodologies!

    I had my head and upper body scanned at our local maker space and after about 10 minutes in meshmixer I have a 3d model of myself. The scan was done with a tablet I think. I'll have to ask about the device and software used and let you know.

    Hi! I saw that on the scan with the turntable you used a white surface . Why not using a texture for it like in the previous video? Maybe it helps... Greetings!!

    You should try it in the dark. Kinnect uses infrared light patterns to calculate depth instead of pixels like normal photogrammetry. I think your lighting is confusing the sensors by washing out the patterns that it's looking for.

      Worth a try for sure, thanks for the idea!

    You can may try to turn camera around an still object with turn table.

    I would have tried putting the Kinect sensor in a vertical position. The depth sensor and the camera both need to see the surface you are trying to scan.

    Why do you need lighting at all? I think the lights have a negative effect on the points of light coming from the Kinect. I know that maybe people use the Kinect system in pure darkness and it still can track all surfaces with infrared Lights.

    Hey Daniel, does xbox one kinect scan the objects better? I mean with more resolution.

    fuzzy texture is not the best for 3D scanning, every little hair bouncing light in different direction, you should try with the lion

  • @jdjizzle
    @jdjizzle 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    And you only had the kinect at one height didnt you do a couple passes when you walked with it so maybe straight in front and a downward angle?

    • @Crosslink3D
      @Crosslink3D  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      it doesn't change the result. I have to try with another object, if it has anything to do with the surface structure. For now, I am focusing on photogrammetry. It's just so much better.

    What's the smallest item that could be scanned assuming the details and texture are ok? I'm interested in scan wargame minatures and terrain

    • @Crosslink3D
      @Crosslink3D  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      20cm in every direction is the minimum. I would not try this with the Kinect. Use Photogrammetry instead.

  • @sheariley1910
    @sheariley1910 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think maybe you needed to scan from multiple vertical positions (above the object, at the same level, and below the object).

  • @bill_r
    @bill_r 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    do you think changing the angle and height of the Kinect for 3 rotations would make a difference?

    • @sheariley1910
      @sheariley1910 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the same thought. This corrected several issues that I had with the Kinect initially.

    You need to rotate camera around an object. Lighting must reamain the same during all the process. So it might be better solution to put camera on arm that attached to axis under the center of the object.

    • @Crosslink3D
      @Crosslink3D  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that rotating the camera around the object usually gives better results, specially with photogrammetry. Turntable solutions need very specific lighting control and background.

    Why you are don’t use a ring to rotate camera or laser?!!

  • @speedymartin2
    @speedymartin2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I guess you have used to much light, probably the sensor frequency doesn't like the light and shadows.

  • @ConspiredOne

    I’d just stick to a model like the lion statue

    • @Crosslink3D
      @Crosslink3D  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's just too heavy for the turntable (10kg).

    • @ConspiredOne
      @ConspiredOne 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Makes sense.... I’ve worked with laser scanners in special effects. I will be trying the XBOX ONE scanning with a custom turntable. If you like I’ll share with you how it worked. I think that a uniformed color model will scan better as we had to deal with the holes also using laser scanners. Certain colors are more difficult or even impossible to completely read. Especially with the make shift XBOX SCANNER method. But thanks again for the inspiration 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

    Based on your results ... maybe it’s the white shirt?

  • @sircher943
    @sircher943 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The thing is that a previous version of this software worked with a turntable and even gave better results, microshit broke it to stop people from buying the kinect one.

      Well, it's a dead device now - very sad.
