Really excellent. They managed to keep me second-guessing my interpretations until the very last minute. The ending was satisfying and poetic in its way, without seeming either too devastating or too saccharine as you might've expected a lot of similar films to be.
I vaguely remember watching this when I was a kid. We used to rent all of the creepiest looking movies. Thanks for the nostalgic look at something I completely forgot about.
I just saw this whacky movie the other day. LOL love that quote at the end. They don't make 'em like this anymore. It's got a great, spooky feel. And considering who wrote the book, part of it calls to mind all those VC Andrews books I used to read as a kid. Feels like a nice throwback.
It sounds ridiculous but its creepy and bizzare at times. Plus the ending is great. And how can you forget the scene where one nurse does something with Pin.....yeah wth....
Living near the Canadian border I was lucky enough to see it as a CBC presentation back in the 1990s. It was quite memorable for its oddness and I agree it was quite good. Sad that it never found its audience.
@@wangson I pick up the Windsor station, but on the other side of the border. I should say used to pick up the station, because I haven't been able to get it since the digital transition. When I saw "PIN" it was on cable though.
@@Pyrolonn Wow! You lost it once they went digital eh? Huh...actually I could see that. Im pretty sure that I watched Pin late at night on channel 9 (CBC) - and a great thing about the CBC? No censoring. My family never had cable so I figure that some of the first nude ladies that I ever saw were courtesy of the CBC's Channel 9 in Windsor.
Brilliant summary!! I watched this when I was a young teen with a friend and we referenced scenes from it for years! I need to watch this one more time, at least!
Ah man, this movie... I remember back in the day, a old friend of mine picked this up on vhs then let me borrow it. Strange, but awesome movie. I read the book a year or two ago, it was really good too!
Back in '88 my older brother worked in a video rental store and was able to get tons of preview VHS's for us to watch before they came out ... 'Pin' was one of them ... So weird was it, that of all the probably hundreds of films I watched during the years he worked there, 'Pin' was the one I remember the most ... One of those films that I thought only me and my siblings remember, good to hear I'm not the only one.
I hired this on VHS back in the day in Australia. I remember liking it as it wasn't your typical horror movie. Haven't seen it since. Seems to be obscure now.
Not sure why I never heard of this but I want to see it. From what you said about the movie I can see two ways this movie could be effective today if done right
Pin is really something special, I'd love to find some more subtle horror movies from this time where the plot is more grounded like this and The Stepfather among others. I didn't grow up in the 80s, so typical slasher movies aren't nostalgic for me. Some of the effects are really cool in some of them but what slasher movies offer and what movies like this offer are pretty different.
PIN is a good horror movie. I loved it the first time I rented it from the video store. The ending is creepier than the rest of the movie. There is another movie similar to PIN except the manakin is made of wood that came out 7 years later called The Fear, not quite as good and it steered more to a supernatural and slasher flic. I mistaking The Fear for PIN once is how I saw The Fear.
Never heard of this movie before. I used to see at least one movie a week back in the '80s. And lots of them were horror movies. If this had been released here in America I would have seen it. I found it on Usenet and am downloading it at this moment. Never heard of Cynthia Preston before either, but wow is she beautiful. Looks like it will be worth watching just for her. ;-)
@@dkmurphy6129 Unfortunately I went to watch the copy I had downloaded and there were no subtitles and the audio wasn't English, so I nuked it from my hard drive. Oh well I have tons of other stuff to watch still.....
It's about the brother and he has paranoid schizophrenia. Excellent movie. It was kind of ahead of it's time. If it was remade today and had better direction and actors it would or could be much better. It shows the danger of messing with kids heads when they are at that age when they are curious about sexuality it really isn't a horror movie as much as it is a psychological thriller. When it was made in 1988 there weren't any movies that really touched on the premise that this one did. Very undrated and worth watching you'll be surprised at the originality of a movie for 1988. It's kind of a mix between a Hitchcock and a M.Night Shamilan movie
I Remember Watching This Movie Late One Night In The Late 1980s when I was Around 12 years old, My Parents Just Got Cable And I Loved Horror Movies, The 2 Movies I watched Late One Night were "Monkey Shines" and This Movie PIN, I thought This Movie Was So Strange at 12 years old ...But Just Love This Movie today as a Guy In His 40s!
I don't remember where and when I saw this movie. all I remember is thinking WTF lol. I gotta see this movie again. All I remember is the creepy sex doll.
I appreciate you giving a good breakdown of Pin, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to slow down your talking. James A. Janisse (Dead Meat James) figured out several years ago that the fans aren't necessarily turned off by a video being slightly longer, by talking at a normal pace. He used to talk rapid fire as well, in the beginning. We just want good content, doesn't need to be frenetically paced... Not trying to diss, but just felt like I needed to set the playback speed to 0.75 heh
@ 4:55 wow Taylor Swift was way ahead of the curve using the correct pronouns of 'it' back in the late 80s. After viewing this I also think she has been lying to the public about her age, no way she's in her 30s! 😂😂
You should have mentioned the best part of the ending twists and my mom rented this from Blockbuster when I was a kid we watched crazy things and loved psychological horrors but this one to this day creepy ass doll crazy ass brother should have been locked in an asylum major schizophrenia and creepy dad and the sex scene burned in my brain was gross as a child I saw that and was Traumatized to this day I said I would Never watch this movie again and didn't that part was so disturbing you might a well showed the actually act
No special effects needed. The fright and suspense all comes from your own mind.
Criminally underrated film.
This film deserves a full restoration.

Well worth the watch. The ending devastated me.
Leon looking out the window right? I watched this when I was 8 or 9 and it messed me up pretty good.
It sounds ridiculous but its creepy and bizzare at times. Plus the ending is great. And how can you forget the scene where one nurse does something with Pin.....yeah wth....
That lady that bang the dummy was actually my acting teacher lol!
@@JoBloHorrorOriginals .......I.......what?....... lol
Lol I was wondering how that was anatomically possible and would like to see Pin's junk.
Living near the Canadian border I was lucky enough to see it as a CBC presentation back in the 1990s. It was quite memorable for its oddness and I agree it was quite good. Sad that it never found its audience.
Ha! Same here! Windsor? If so, that's where I was born and bred and continue to live...

I've seen this movie at least 200 times since 1988. It's in my top five for sure.

As a fan of Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis, it's so bizarre seeing such a young David Hewlett.
Holy crap, it took me a awhile to make that connection! I thought that guy very familiar to me at first! WOW it's Dr. McKay but younger!!
This was a masterpiece. A psychological journey into madness and mania.
I think I still have this on VHS, after watching this TH-cam video, I gotta find a VCR, can’t wait to adjust the tracking!
Wow! I read the book almost 30 years ago and I never even knew there WAS A movie!!!

They have this on DVD at my town's library! Gotta love libraries.....It's how I was able to see it!!
Saw this yesterday! Such an underrated gem imo!
It reminds me of the Anthony Hopkins movie Magic..
Lol I didn't see your comment before I made mine
Back in the mid 90's I watched this on CBC, thank you for the review video!

I have this movie on VHS somewhere but I can't find it! Really crazy. It stuck with me for a along time.
Saw this when I was in high school loved it. This and magic are my favorite killer doll is actually crazy person genera

Wow I never saw this... It sounds like Magic with Anthony Hopkins.
Pin should hang out with Morty from the Fear. LOL
Seen this movie...couldn't remember the name...thanks for doin this one!!!!!
The book scared the crap out of me
I saw this in my early 20s and it creeped me right out.
....and that was MIKE FROM BREAKING BAD!?!?!??! Oh man! That blew my mind!!
had this on VHS watched it so many times, classic
I bought PIN on DVD a few years ago, when I was going through a Dave Hewlett kick! ...a bit incestuous, but beyond that - it was friggen great!
I've just watched it on TH-cam. It would have been a perfect Hammer House of Horror episode.
This movie was in heavy rotation on Prism back in the early 90s. To this day me and my sister talk about how fn weird it was.
Movie reminds me of magic with anthony Hopkins
Young leon looks like joseph quinn and older leon looks like noah schnapp
Fantastic psychological horror, really worth watching👍
Wow I can’t I belive I found it. I watched this movie when I was a little boy with my dad and I always used to think abt it at times weirdly
Canada has a lot of hidden gems.
Pin with skin looks like a Baldwin brother
Remember this from when I was a kid too, though I didn't get it then.
The good old days of VHS.
I can't find this on any streaming services. 😫
I remember this movie creepy and a good time
Not sure why I never heard of this but I want to see it. From what you said about the movie I can see two ways this movie could be effective today if done right
It was quite effective in the past. I don't think they would do it justice if they remade it.
I don't know why seeing this video I thought of the Weird Al Yankovic song I Think I'm a Clone Now.

Hey! It's the stepfather from the movie The Stepfather! He plays a good creep.
It's like a great episode of Goosebumps

Sharp & weird thriller.

This movie was on HBO back in the day
It was also on the Sci-Fi Channel, where I originally saw it.
i saw that film. its a good one.
The nurse rape Pin , the ending is soo sad whit sad MUSIC
Wonder why this movie doesnt have Bluray release or webrip. I would watch it.
Doesn't feel like a horror movie at all, more like drama. The Ending was pretty sad actually.
The genre of this film is psychological-suspense.
Bruh.... I GOTTA watch it now.
I remember watching this low budget movie and thought it was out there/weird/different? can't really describe it 🤔
This one is good
Pin, when he's got skin, looks oddly like Haley Joel Osmend.
VC ANDREWS IS DEAD!??! OMG !! I WAS WONDERING HOW SHE KEPT WRITING!
Horror isnt about blood and gore to begin with, you can still make a horror movie without them.
Is it me or does Pin look like Christian Bale 😅
I didn't want to write this comment.
PIN made me do it.
The title of this video is wrong.
I DID see it
Scene were nurse rapes the doll messed me up as a kid. Aswell as that robin williams garp movie the bite scene
Narrated by Jason Hewlett. Relation?
When Pin gets the synthetic skin and hair he reminds me of John Travolta.😂

Did they model Pin off William Baldwin? 😂
The point is it’s not creepy at all. It’s downright hilarious in its self aware 80s quirk. It’s unique.

Pin wouldn’t like that!
Booooooooy, can you cover Phantasm soon?
Why? These vids are supposed to be about obscure movies most people haven't seen. The Phantasm series of films are well-known.
😱😱😱😱
Only criticism... Narrator talks WAY too fast! Take a breath, dude. :-)

No way can it compare to Psycho.
