The Allman Brothers - Whipping Post is a must listen .. One of the greatest songs of all time.
and Dreams.
The Allman Brothers are one of my favorite bands, next to Led Zeppelin, they have a huge catalog, every song well-written lyrically and musically.
Dickey Betts doing a great job on that slide guitar after Duane's passing.
He wrote this as a tribute to his brother, Duane, who was killed in a motorcycle crash. Duane was one of the great slide guitar players of all time.
It was also written for the returning Vietnam veterans along with the loss of Duane.
And Duane IS the greatest Slide player of all time
Every year they go faster and faster and faster, so yes i have tried to live by these words most of my life, this band changed my life when i first heard the album Live at the Filmore East, been a fan ever since
One of the best bands ever. I've seen them in concert 11 times and love this tune. Thanks again, big fan!

Gregg had the music mostly done for this song when his brother passed. The song lyrically deals with Duane's death and returning veterans from Vietnam.
I started listening to your reactions several months ago and I enjoy your unique perspective.
I am a 71 year old whose favorite band is the Allman Brothers. I’m a little biased, but every song they play is amazing. You will find no end to their music.
Also check out Derek and the Dominos by Eric Clapton and Layla. Eric recruited Duane to play on it. That and Allman live at Filmore East are complete masterpieces.
The Allman created Southern Rock.
A current band you need to try is Tedeschi Trucks Band. Susan and Derek are a married couple how each had a band. Derek also played for the Allman Brothers, she opened for them, they met and the rest is history. She has a voice that’s between Janis Joplin and Bonnie Raitt. Simply amazing. Derek is. One of the best guitarist ever, slide or regular. Clapton recruited him also . If you decide to do a reaction please find a live version on you tube, you need to hear them live. They are a 12 piece ensemble, 2 guitars, 2 drummers, horn section and backup singers. It’s an amazing big sound.

Idlewild South, it takes you to church. Also "Not My Cross to Bear" from Debut LP another blues/gospel inspired song. You'll luv 'em. Peace

The Allman Brothers were one of the most talented bands ever. Duanne Allman is one of the top 5 guitarists in Rock Music ever. Dickey Betts is not far behind. Two drummers, bass, and Greg Allman round out the country, jazz, and blues that is the Allman Brothers. "Whipping Post" is one of the top 10 songs in Rock Music. Live version at Filmore East is great.

This was such a great Blues Band. They are all gone to be with the lord now, but their music will still be here to enjoy. Greg and Duane Allman, Dickie Betts, and the others were top shelf musicians and artists.
