That's Dave Lindley with the guitar on his lap and the falsetto bit at the end. If you watch it again, pay attention to the moment as he's walking over to sing. The band is laughing... They know it's an iconic moment in the song that nobody was expecting. This song has been 10/10 for me since it was new. Thanks for taking the time to love it too.

Jackson Bowne concerts are like sitting with him in his living room. He always interacts with his audience in a personal way. It's very special. I'll say this again though, you should give the song "Sky Blue and Black" a listen. It's a gem.

Sky Blue and Black...he is so good at painting a picture with words. Amazing.

Quality music, quality musicians, quality voices. That's what we had in the '60s and '70s. Music of this calibre was the norm. So when older people today disparage much of the music of today, it's because they have a gold standard by which they can compare -- music with actual melodies, lyrics with actual meaning, no autotune, and because of all that engaged audiences.

    • @ajschroetlin2196
      @ajschroetlin2196 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

The issue is that the modern-day "quality" music that you speak of is around. It's just not on the radio.
Back in the day, it was the radio that brought us new music. Today, it's places like TH-cam.
Tedeschi Trucks Band, Gov't Mule, Widespread Panic, Billy Strings, Sturgill Simpson, Sierra Ferrell, Molly Tuttle, Jason Isbell, and Railroad Earth are some great examples.
Really good music is being made in 2024. You just have to work a little harder to find it. 😉

@@ajschroetlin2196 I'm aware of a lot of good music. Back in the day good music was the norm, not the exception. The names you listed are amazing artists and I listen to them all. Sierra Ferrell is probably my favorite artist right now.

Nice Reaction. The 1st part of this song has always been special to be since I was "the sound guy" at smaller gigs for 20 or 30 years (part time). They do get there long before everyone else to set everything up; then work with the musicians during the soundcheck; then are mostly invisible until after the gig when they have to tear everything down. It's nice that Jackson Browne gave tribute to those people in song.

You 2 are great. My wife and I have been fans of Jackson from the time we met. I started listening to Jackson when I was in my first year of college (1971-72). We have seen him in concert several times including 2012 in Milwaukee, WI. We were 2nd row center and he was the most engaging genuine performer I've ever seen. He always has the best musicians. One of my highlights was seeing the band (most of them anyway) that played on this album including the genius David Lindley who can play anything with strings.

I was a teenager in the 70's and Jackson Browne was my favorite music artist. I love his voice and his song lyrics. The Load Out/Stay is my favorite song of his. I never saw him in concert back then but I have seen him in concert twice in the last few years. The first concert he was with James Taylor. The second concert was with only Jackson. He still sounds great. He's written songs for other people, including "Take it Easy", which he co-wrote with Glenn Frey of the Eagles. I read that Jackson Browne lived downstairs from Glenn Frey at the time and was stuck after he wrote "Standing on the Corner in Winslow Arizona" and Glenn helped him finish the song. He then let the Eagles go on to record it.

I saw him perform solo about 10 years ago. It was just him, a piano and 23 guitars lined up across the stage. He performed all his hits acoustically alternating back and forth between playing the piano and picking up a guitar. He'd pick up a guitar and say, "I wonder what song's in this one." Then he came back to the same venue the next year and played all those songs with a full band. The place was singing along and rockin'. Two outstanding shows.

Two magnificent tributes, one to the roadies who set up and dismantle the stage working behind the scenes, the other to the audience, to whom Jackson Browne wants to dedicate an extra song in thanks. “Stay” has its memorable moment with the great David Lindley’s falsetto verse. It should be noted that in practice there is no studio version of the two songs, because they were recorded live during a tour and included in the album "Running on empty". "Stay" is a cover of a 1960 Maurice Williams song

But in the 70's he started recording his own songs. He had a lot of hits 70's-80's such as "Doctor, My Eyes", "Rock Me On The Water", "Here Come Those Tears Again", "Somebody's Baby", "Tender Is The Night" etc.

In between the Rockies and the Smokies on your car radio you will find a "golden oldies" radio station that plays classic Americana that makes the driving great on your trip.

11:55 Yes, Dominika. Where I live, there are 2 classic rock stations that play this song and almost every song from that era you've heard so far. This music is too good to die out.

The man behind the drum kit was Jim Gordon. One of the music industry's premier drummers for years, back in the day. He was also the drummer for Derek and the Dominoes...back in the 60's and 70's he played on over 500 recordings as perhaps the most sought after session drummer of all time.. His is a tragic story, though. He was diagnosed schizophrenic, and heard voices in his head all the time. It culminating with him murdering his mother. I won't go into the details on how, but it was horrible...He spent about 40 years in prison before dying there a few years ago. He and David Lindley (Guy with the high voice here) died about a week about apart.

This album, and particularly this song, is what convinced me to become a recording engineer ! Waaay back in 1978! And that’s exactly what I did for 40 years.
    Peace

Many "Classic Rock" stations on FM all around the states. 60's, 70's especially but sometimes even 50's through 80's.

I was 14 when this song came out and I thought it was awesome that he wrote a song paying tribute to the people behind the scenes that work harder than anyone and never get the glory! This will give generations the glory they deserve! ❤❤ this song and reaction, Thaks!
