*Great little trolling motor **enjoyable.fishing** recommend had it hooked up to my 15 foot old town canoe and it pushed it pretty good with me and my son (220 pounds each).*
THANK YOU SO MUCH. The instructions that came with the kit missed the part for the steering. I went out fishing today and I have propulsion, but no steering. I watched your video and BAM. Steering.
@@treestandmanoutdoors haha, those 2 cables you had to connect to eachother had me confused. Since the guy that helped me bring my boat to my marina told me I didn’t need to worry about those
This was a great video, Minn Kota should have paid you for it. You missed with your thumbnail though, it would have gotten a lot more attention had you used your captain in it LOL 🙂👍
Much better video than mine, I did same to older unit. Got my kit from northland marine. The spot lock is huge difference, the auto pilot has classic and advanced too. I run classic to troll with. Now trying to decide if I want that gps puck or use it as is. If it's windy the spot lock does drain the battery pretty quick.
@@treestandmanoutdoors it's cheaper than a new motor, prob why mfg stopped offering it. These shops are basically assembling a diy kit saving us $$. If you have not done yet, pair with phone and update the firmware in remote and head unit. It fixed a autopilot issue I had where head would spin.
Does the kit also work with the steering features? I have a brand new power drive I was going to put the I Pilot head on, but wanted to make sure it also steers with remote instead of the electronic foot pedal
@@donchasteen6290 Yes, you can absolutely steer it, it’s like having an extra set of hands. Best purchase I’ve made in a long time. The more I use it, the more I appreciate it.
I don’t think it was heat shrink, it was far too thick. When I replaced it, it was just slid over the connections from the factory. It’s possible that I missed a step here, but that means Minn Kota did too.
Great install video. I know you said you can't use the foot pedal, but is that only when the remote is active? Or, does the install actually disable the foot pedal? Or, could the install be modified to keep the foot pedal operative?
Thanks, you may be able to splice the wires to the control module, but I wouldn’t advise it (and I don’t know if that would even work). I honestly haven’t missed the foot pedal once.
As a follow up, you connect the iPilot head into where the foot pedal would have been connected, so there is no way to operate the foot pedal with the iPilot head installed.
I would start by disconnecting and re-connecting the battery, then I would make sure all the connections are tight, maybe replace the batteries in the remote? If that doesn’t work, you may want to call Minn Kota customer service or the retailer who sold the kit to see if they have any suggestions. Good luck! I really hope you can figure it out.
Any issue's after the head upgrade? Just wondering because I've got mines on order and coming... nice video by the way ill be using it to get mines done...
This is the seller I bought from on eBay. It looks like they may have a few more in stock. A little pricey, but 100% worth it! www.ebay.com/itm/2774155-Minn-Kota-PowerDrive-BT-iPilot-Upgrade-Kit-/133460498470?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286
So far no issues. It occasionally veers off course slightly when I use the straight line trolling feature, but not enough to complain about. Still holding within 10 feet of spot lock. It was a good investment.
I installed my new kit in my 2016 ipilot powerdrive v2. I installed it as shown exactly. I reconnected the power and this does not work at all. I get no pairing tone when holding the button. I double checked everything. I get a beep when i connect power. But no pairing to the remote.....Now what??????
This is from the Minn Kota website: “i-Pilot can be added to Terrova, Riptide Terrova (ST), PowerDrive, PowerDrive V2, Riptide PowerDrive (SP), and Ulterra model.” I don’t think this kit is compatible, but there may be a kit out there for it.

Perfect, I got the same unit and your video made the installation a snap
Waiting for mine to arrive. I’ll be using this video to install. Thanks for posting👍🏼
No problem, good luck with it!

I find that I get about 1/2 day of fishing out of it with my 12V system. Depends what I’m doing though. Spot lock is an awesome feature!

Great how-to video. Thanks for sharing and good luck out on the water!
Hi man super video 🙂👍
How come you didn't heat up the Heat shrink on the wires?

Did you get spot lock to work?
Yes rookie mistake I had the head facing wrong way
Anyone know if the foot pad still works or is it jsut the remote now?
It’s just remote

@Treestand Man Outdoors that's awesome to hear thanks for you're help...
@@brongthao6802 Anytime. Good luck with your install!
Was a normal trolling motor? Then upgraded the headl to have spot lock ipilot? Curious if i can do this to my minn.
Yes, it was the Minn Cota powerdrive 55lb thrust. Kits are getting harder to come by, but they’re still out there.
Great video, I would sure like to find one.

Sweet, mine after looking at it is just powerdrive 50lbs thrusts, not a v2
Well I just received my I-pilot upgrade for my 2017 Minn Kota / Johnson bought from them direct $473.00 with Ut tax only took 4 days.
Couple years in how is it treating you ?

@@treestandmanoutdoors how long does your battery last ? My only concern is it blowing through my 12volt
@teamburyoutdoors6989 it’s not much different than trolling with a foot pedal. Spot lock can hold for hours without hurting the battery too much.
Is it possible to run the ipilot head with a foot pedal?
Unfortunately not, but I haven’t missed it.
Can you still hook your foot pedal up
No, unfortunately not. The receiver for the remote plugs into it, so unless there’s a way to splice it, I don’t know of a way.
Where did you order up grade. I have 70 lb power drive v2

Did you get this figured out?
Does this regular Ipilot have auto deploy ?
Negative, I believe that’s only available on the high end models $$$
Do you by and chance know if this works the same on a V1? Thanks!

@@treestandmanoutdoors Thanks a lot!
How much did you pay for this?
I believe it was around $350 when I bought it a couple years ago. I see the kits on eBay going for about $450 now.
Cost?
The kits are around $450-$500 if you can find them.
Does the girl come with these?
Can’t believe you didn’t at least paint the black iron light brackets instead of letting them spew rust all over your carpet
