@@dianeblount2363Dolly Parton is a National Treasure and I’m a Texan who’s not fond of country music. However, as an older woman I have learned to recognize and respect gifts when I come upon them.
Dolly has composed over 5,000 songs. I saw Dolly at a festival 10 years ago in NC. She sounded great! I love her voice. She's my favorite female country singer.
Rolling Stone Country recently named this recording by Dolly as the greatest country song of all time. Some years ago, "I Will Always Love You" by Dolly Parton was named as the greatest country love song of all time. Now, brace yourself, a few years ago, Dolly revealed that she apparently wrote both these songs the same day or night. Since Dolly doesn't read or write music, she uses a tape recorder when she writes songs. They were organizing her tapes and lyric sheets and discovered those two songs were written one right after the other in one session. No wonder the NYC Songwriters Hall of Fame awarded Dolly with their highest honor, the Johnny Mercer Award.
I have worked at Dollywood since 2014..Miss Dolly is my Boss ! We just opened our 39th season this past Friday. Our first festival of this season is "I Will Always Love You" Musical Festival...Dolly was at Dollywood on Friday and Saturday...We love our Queen Dolly ! ❤ If you haven't listened to her song "World on Fire off of her Rockstar album ,you need to give it a listen..also her duet with Kenny Rogers, "You Can't Make Old Friends" It sums up their very special friendship.
I agree with your statement that songwriting is Dolly's superpower. I became a fan in 1970 when I heard her cover of Muleskinner Blues. I remember reading a music journalist who described Dolly's version compared with Jimmie Rodgers version and Bill Monroe's version. "Dolly's recording just blows past Rodgers and Monroe like a Lear Jet overtaking a Model T Ford and a 1957 Chevy." (Or words to that effect). So I began listening to Dolly and buying her albums in 1970. I soon discovered that Dolly wrote a high percentage of the songs she recorded. I always looked for the name of songwriters whose songs I admired. I was just a teen back then, but I knew that songwriting was a completely separate talent aside from singing. Any singer who can write hits for herself (or himself) has a big advantage. Many great singers either don't write hit songs or write songs that aren't good enough to propel their career. (Taylor Swift is her own songwriter and I think that is her secret to overwhelming success.)
Yes! She wrote this song. I can’t believe you’re just now discovering Dolly. I’ve been listening to her since I was 10 years old and she was in the Porter Wagner Show. I’m 69 now. Very happy you’re doing these videos and bringing her wonderful work to new generations. Thanks!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Jolene is a true story from when she was touring and her husband stayed home. Jolene worked at the bank. Yes, Dolly IS in the Rock Hall of Fame. I just don't remember for what song... Also, I Will Always Love You is a song about love but it's not a love song... Look up the lyrics. 😇
I LOVE YOU DOLLY. LISTENING TO YOU FOR YEARS.AND GIAD YOU ARE GETTING WHAT IS LONG DONE TO YOU. FAMOUS OR NOT WOMEN'S WERE KEEP BACK JUST BECAUSE SHE IS A WOMAN.
I really hope one day you actually get to meet her. 👍 Jolene has been very popular over the years. Mileys backyard session version of it is gorgeous so it Dolly & Miley doing it together on stage. Some also did an extremely funny parody of the song during COVID
I don't think Dolly has ever sang/sung a song she didn't write... She's made more bank by others singing her songs than she made on her own singing #1 hits of her songs.. Songwriters do tend to make more money... She always thanked Whitney for singing I Will Always Love You.. Dolly took that one all the way to the bank.. and what is amazing about Dolly.. she gives back.. she's put so much money into her Imagination Library and Dollywood that made her hometown so much money and jobs to the ppl. she's our American Treasure.. Don't mess with Dolly
She has also recorded hits written by others: Dumb Blonde, In the Ghetto, The Last Thing on My Mind, Here You Come Again, You're the Only One, Sweet Summer Loving, Great Balls of Fire, Starting Over Again, Old Flames Can't Hold a Candle to You, Heartbreaker, Why'd You Come in Here Looking Like That, and her hit with Kenny Rogers on Islands in the Stream. Her own songs are often best suited to her voice, but Dolly can sing anything
I love seeing you fall in love with this amazing woman. Her kindness and generosity are the stuff of legends. She has a program called Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, where she will send out a free book every month to kids 5 and under. Many of the books feature newer and lesser known authors, and a number of the books are all kinds of inclusive. She also donates to a lot of causes, and donated $1million toward Covid vaccine development. She's one of the rare, kind souls who emanate goodness and love from every pore. I always thought of Keanu Reeves as being equally as good of a human... come to find out, his mother was a seamstress for Dolly Parton, and he remembers playing at Dolly's feet when he was a kid. Clearly her pure love rubbed off on him! Enjoy the Dolly journey, it is an amazing one!
She was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year. She at first turned it down, but they did it anyway. So, she went out and recorded a new album of rock songs. Often dueting with the original artists. Check out one of her new songs, "World on Fire." I believe there is a live video from the 2023 Grammys.
Dolly is such an amazing woman that when Reba's band was killed in a plane crash, she literally gave her own band to complete the tour until she could replace the band.
She just did a Rock album of classic rock covers usually performed with the original artists. She did this at 76 in response to being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She said if she was going to be in the Hall of Fame, she should at least do a Rock album!
She absolutely writes her own songs! She has had several ppl remake her music. Btw.. I have a flare on my Lowe's work vest that says "what would Dolly do " ❤
If you watched these comments... her favorite song she ever wrote is my actual favorite song of Dolly's. Coat of Many Colors.. another true story of her childhood. Apple Jack.. so many songs..
My sister and her husband had Rockin' Years playing at their wedding. Romeo is another suggestion. In a live version of this song she talked about the following to say. She confronted Jolene and lost a fight with her. Then she went home and let her husband have it.
Dolly wrote those two songs on the same day. She is a prolific songwriter and so many famous people have hits that Dolly wrote and you don’t know it. I have always loved Dolly and I always will. I had this on vinyl.
Dolly was 1 of 12 children in the hills of Tennessee. The great Smoky Mountains. Times were hard for her and she will be the first to tell you that she always admired the town "Floozy". LOL She always thought she was so beautiful. She will say in her own words, it take a lot of money to look this cheap! She's absolutely amazing!!!
Sometimes Dolly shows up at Dollywood, the park that she created. I’ve seen her there before but wasn’t close enough to talk. I recommend Dollywood highly for anyone. But def if you like roller coasters. Dolly made her home town of Sevierville into what it is today, with all those jobs she created.
I don't understand, has someone been trashing Dolly down here? How very freakin' dare they? She is a goddess, even if her music isn't for you (mind you, I would kinda judge you for that), she is an amazing human, in every way possible. So I'm with you CV, I will smack anyone who says a bad word. ❤
Nobody ever reacts to “The Bargain Store”. It’s one of my favorites by Dolly. The guitar gives me Jolene vibes and the story is unique - and she doesn’t kill anybody in it. LOL
When you threatened anyone who might say something negative about her, you know you have countless others right there with you. Generous to a fault, and with such a true loving heart - she really is one of the best human beings of the modern era. She spends her time and money helping others and still also creates such beautiful art. By at least a few definitions - Dolly is a prophet. Her songs are written in a way that makes you feel like they're divinely inspired and led, and she can change the world with a handful of words. Hell, she HAS changed the world a few times over! I think of her as Bhodisattva; someone who has earned their place in Nirvana(paradise) but chooses to stay behind and help others.
This is Dolly's best version ever. I recommend that you also listen to the slowed down version used on the TV series "The Blacklist." By slowing down the playback, it shows how perfectly Dolly sang her lyrics, how well the guitar and other instruments were played, and how in sync Dolly was with the band. Then you need to hear the version produced by Linda Perry for the soundtrack for Dumplin'. Finally, the version she did with Pentatonix, which won a Grammy.
Dolly is beautiful and I love the passion you have for her. I find her entire story and talent amazing. This song always gives me goosebumps and is one of my Dolly favorites.
Watch her duet with Pentatonix of Jolene. Dolly wrote this song and had performed it for decades but she had never won a Grammy for Jolene. Pentatonix did an arrangement of Jolene with themselves a cappella and taped live and they all won a Grammy ❤❤❤❤❤
You should check out her visiting a pub in Ireland on you tube Could Only Happen in Ireland is the title. She was on vacation but gracious and kind enough to sing to the folks in the pub. She is beautiful and kind and loves God and all people as her brothers and sisters. She is my all time favorite.
There's a group called "Chapel Hart" that wrote and sing a song authorized by Dolly after she heard it. It's called "You Can Have Him, Jolene". It's worth a listen or watching the video, on TH-cam.
According to Dolly in an interview, this was written about a Red Haired Bank Teller who had an interest in Dollys Husband. You asked about her other songs, there have been hundreds she's written for other Singers, but one that I've always thought told a good story is " To Daddy" sung by Emmy Lou Harris
Jolene is really a famous song now. It was always big in the country music sphere, but folk musicians also brought it to the forefront. I'm 56 and can't remember a time I didn't know (and LOVE) this song, but I also come from a long line of hillbillies.
Jolene was a little girl after a concert who wanted an autograph. Dolly loved her name. The bank teller is who the song is about, but the name came from the little girl. 😊
Pitbull just did a mashup called "Powerful Women" with Dolly Parton of her song "9 to 5" - and not just her original version. She recorded new parts to be included.
She absolutely wrote this. She wrote both songs on the same night! You need to watch interviews with her and about her. She’s hilarious. No jokes ever been told she hasn’t said herself. Go back and watch her and Kenny Roger’s host award shows. And they were best friends.
But also want to say Dolly and her husband Carl Dean have been together for my entire lifetime and I just turned 57.. I'm thinking Jolene got a little bit of Lorretta Lynn... Gonna take her to Fist City.. lol I'm sure Dolly would fight for her man too. They met like a week or 2 after Dolly went to Nashville.. got married soon after.. you never hear nothing about Carl Dean.. he never wanted to be a part of her career.. He had his own construction business.. and he stayed with that.
hiiiii again! Jolene hits me to the core, Dolly wrote it alongside I Will Always Love You: to wrote both songs she did them in just 20 minutes. also I'm suggesting you to react "When Someone Wants To Leave" by Dolly and it's so relatable that when i first heard it i cried all my tears 🥺
Dolly did a song back in the 70s. I believe it was and I bought the album because of that song and it was daddy come and get me because I was in a bad place and I needed my daddy.
Check out Three Doors Down. It’s a fun, fun song. Also, Why’d you come in here looking like that. Two of my favorites! Love Dolly! Oh and Love is like a Butterfly…..I could go on all day! Lol😂Enjoy!
There's a slowed down version that's absolutel haunting. I'm a firm atheist but, god bless Dolly, the woman's a saint. If you're in a country mood - Townes Van Zandt, anything live i worth checking out, "Waiting around to die" is a stunner.
now I understand! The "Smasher" is often sorry and even more often he doesn´t know. That gets more and more interesting by every time he repeats it. Please wake me up when the song begins....
She wrote both songs on the same night
wow
She wrote Jolene and I will Always Love You on the same day. Both are on that album.
Now go back and watch her Dallas halftime show. She sings it, dressed as a Dallas cheerleader at 77 yrs old.
How is that day not a national holiday?

Dolly is in the Country Music Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame just last year. She is a National Treasure!!
This was her first big hit. I was young at the time but the boob jokes and dumb blonde jokes were already making the rounds. Who's laughing now?
Dolly all the way to the bank 😊😊😊 and she gives as much as she gets. ❤❤❤
Yes! She wrote this song. I can’t believe you’re just now discovering Dolly. I’ve been listening to her since I was 10 years old and she was in the Porter Wagner Show. I’m 69 now. Very happy you’re doing these videos and bringing her wonderful work to new generations. Thanks!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
I'm 69 too and I've been listening to her all my life.
Dolly is brilliant, anyone who says otherwise is a liar or a fool
You give me joy. Dolly is a national treasure.😊 I am 62 , Dolly is part of my fabric and it' s joyful to see young folks discover her .
Dolly is a real life angel. If you ever see her live, she GLOWS. She is the real deal.
Is is crazy that I enjoy watching you watch Dolly? You're a tiny bit late to the "Dolly is Amazing" club, but welcome!
Thank you miss monkey
Beautiful song. Please play "Me and Little Andy" also written and sung by Dolly Parton. Thank you so very much. Have a Blessed Day. Adios.
She said that Jolene was a real person in her life. She lays her feelings out with such a rawness.
Jolene is a true story from when she was touring and her husband stayed home. Jolene worked at the bank.

Yes she wrote it. It was her life experience as are most of her songs. Coat of many colors is one of my favorite.
Welcome to Dolly world. I too would love to meet her and spend five minutes in her presence.
Yes she wrote this. It’s a true story she experienced this feeling in her marriage. Great reaction. 😁👍🏾

Came to say the same thing. Two of the most notable songs and she writes them on the same day. Lightning in a bottle.
Dolly is a treasure. Those two songs are classics and she wrote pop. Whitney was not a writer she was a singer and her ability was beyond amazing.
Everything she sings, she writes. She has another good song called two doors down
You need to see her "He's Alive"
Dolly’s written over 5000 songs, she is an incredible songwriter
Dolly has written over 5000 song in her lifetime
How could anyone dis Ms. Dolly. Love her!
Love the woman

Coat of many colors is a great song story. Olivia Newton John covered this song and was a hit for her too
a Dolly song I don't think I have heard any other reaction to is her song The Bargain Store. This is a song that some radio DJs wouldn't play.
She wrote it and it was written the same nite she wrote: "I will always love you".
Dolly also made this into a TV movie as part of her Heartstrings series on Netflix

Great storytelling songs she wrote was also song called “the Bridge” and “Down from Dover”
Dolly Parton is such an amazing composer/singer, love❤Dolly...
Dolly has written hundreds of songs. "The Cowgirl and the Dandy" is great.
I love how you love her! I've always admired this multi talanted, generous, and beautiful inside and out woman. Dream to meet her!❤
She is a beauty, inside and out. She blows EVERYONE away.

I know you will ❤ Jolene with Dolly & PTX they won a Grammy for it
God blessed her and her spunk , talent, beauty and kindness 🌹💐🌼

Jolene was a bank teller. Dolly liked the name so she used she. Dolly is in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame
Jolene was a little girl after a concert who wanted an autograph. Dolly loved her name. The bank teller is who the song is about, but the name came from the little girl. 😊
I've watched you do Dolly and everytime I sit here ugly crying.❤❤❤❤
I cannot wait to watch your upcoming reaction to the Dolly/Pentatonix collaboration on this song! They won a Grammy Award for that collab! ❤
ohh well deserve because it's something i didn't expect for them to team up but so good
She wrote this and "I Will Always Love You" on the same day.....
..... meanwhile...
Me and Little Andy
....let me repeat
Me and Little Andy
She did write it and she tells a story about there is some truth to it. "Jolene" worked at a local bank and seemed to have an eye for her husband.
Just so you know - PTX with Dolly Parton won Grammy for their version of this song! I think you will love it....
It's on the list i can't wait
This one is AWESOME
Pitbull just did a mashup called "Powerful Women" with Dolly Parton of her song "9 to 5" - and not just her original version. She recorded new parts to be included.
Yes ,, you're going to have to go see her in concert, if she's still touring. B-Gees wrote Islands in the Stream
Dolly is the GOAT!
Dolly for president!!
She absolutely wrote this. She wrote both songs on the same night! You need to watch interviews with her and about her. She’s hilarious. No jokes ever been told she hasn’t said herself. Go back and watch her and Kenny Roger’s host award shows. And they were best friends.
This was a true story! Check out her song Coat of Many Colors if you haven’t yet.
I did J it was Amazing just how she took her experience and put into music. love her story telling
She also played guitar / on the album ha ha ha. Go girl gogogo! !

But also want to say Dolly and her husband Carl Dean have been together for my entire lifetime and I just turned 57.. I'm thinking Jolene got a little bit of Lorretta Lynn... Gonna take her to Fist City.. lol I'm sure Dolly would fight for her man too. I will check it out
Dolly did a song back in the 70s. I believe it was and I bought the album because of that song and it was daddy come and get me because I was in a bad place and I needed my daddy.
This song was named the greatest country song of all time a few weeks ago
My favorite Dolly Parton Song is 'Love is like a Butterfly,' with 'Applejack' as a close second.
Rocking years Dolly with Ricky Van Shelton!
There's a live version of this where Dolly explains the truth of this song.
You should listen to her song “coat of many colours”. Beautiful story
She’s also written many songs for other artists.
I did react to that song and i love it
Yes she wrote Jolene. You probably heard Miley Cyrus’ version. BTW Miley is her God daughter.
She did write it. It has been covered.. most of her music is written by her.
