The movie 9 to 5 is hilarious, btw. Great female actors about ladies being treated bad in the workplace. Dolly is a main protagonist. I’d love to watch you watch that honestly. It’s a comedy. Quintessential 80’s.
The 1980 movie starred Dolly as a secretary. Her co-stars were Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. A few years later there was a TV series 9 to 5, and playing the role Dolly had in the movie was her youngest sister, Rachel (Parton) Dennison.
Dolly Parton is an angel on earth. She just turned 78. Once she became financially stable, she started Dolly Parton‘s imagination library. It’s for every parent who has a newborn and she sends them a book every month until they are five years old for free. She pays for everything the shipping, all of it is her program so little children can have stories learn to read let their imagination take them to somewhere else. I recommend every parent grandparent sign up their children/grandchildren. It cost nothing, but it makes a tremendous difference in a child’s life.
She also donated every penny of royalties she made from Whitney Houston’s cover of her song “I Will Always Love You” to impoverished black communities. She even funds a Bald Eagle Sanctuary 😭 She’s received so many accolades for her quiet philanthropic efforts. She never talks about when, where or why she gives or to whom she gives. I swear this woman should be sainted as the first American Saint. Dolly Parton is an American treasure ♥️
Dolly wrote this fine song onset when other actors were being filmed. She found that by rubbing together the artificial fingernails of her left and right hands, she created a sound very much like the sound of someone typing. That was her rhythm section and she played her nails as she wrote the lyrics. It was a smash hit on pop and country and adult contemporary charts. It is one of her best and Dolly was nominated for an Oscar for the best original song written for a movie. It won her the Grammy awards for Best Country Song and Best Female Country Performance.
Dolly wrote this song on set of the movie "9 to 5" in between takes for her parts. She wrote it using her fingernails as the sound for the typewriter. On the album it even credits her fingernails. "Nails: Dolly Parton" 😀
Jane Fonda has a great way of telling the story of how Dolly told them one morning she wrote a little song that could be nice for the movie. She sang it with only her acrylic nails making up the melody ❤
9 - 5 is a movie with Dolly. She wrote the theme song for the movie. Dolly starred in a few movies besides 9-5. Steel Magnolia Best Little Whore House in Texas. These come to mind off the top of my head. Dolly wrote the song "I Will Always Love You, that Whitney Houston made into a huge hit. Dolly wrote " I Will Always !I've You" for Porter Wagner. She sang on his show for a few years when she was starting out, but had told him she wanted a solo career. So when she was leaving the show she wrote this song. ( see the video). She also performed the song at the end of the movie, Best Little Whore House in Texas. ( Dolly stepped the song up a notch from her original version, but Whitney knocked it out of the park. Dolly has written a few hundred songs for many other artists. She's just a sweetheart. She opened up a theme park called Hollywood near where she was raised in Tennessee, to employ ppl. who needed jobs. She has a foundation that gives books to children and is a philanthropist..
227. Damn that shows my age. I was a very young teenaged girl in Texas when I saw this with my mother in the theater. She worked as a secretary during the day while going to law school at night. I was the baby of four. I remember this time with my mother/movie like it was yesterday. My mother, who couldn’t own property or get a credit card in her own name in TEXAS, became their largest city’s county attorney a few decades later. I just turned 59 and this movie still strongly resonates with me. FYI my beautiful mother is turning 86 soon after retiring just a few years ago.
Forgive me if someone has previously addressed this. 227 was a NBC show that starred Marla Gibbs as the mom of a hard-working family with all the feel-goods that accompany. Ms. Gibbs may best be remembered as Florence (the maid) from 'The Jeffersons'. Regina King played the daughter and Lester Jenkins played her husband. Legend Helen Martin was a cast member and Jackee Harry saw her biggest break with this TV series. Also, a typewriter is used as a percussion instrument throughout this song. Sorry if that dates me but it's a bit of trivia I remember from childhood. Great reaction - thank you!
9 to 5 was Dolly Partons 1st movie. It's hilarious. I watch it 2/3 times a year. 1st l watch Loretta Lynn movie "Coal Miners Daughter starring Sissy Spacek. Then l watch 9 to 5. Can't go wrong with a Loretta & Dolly nite. Both these ladies are great singer/songwriters. Hope you enjoy Dolly & discover Loretta Lynn. Plus Loretta duets with Conway Twitty.
Dolly is an absolute legend in country music. You probably already know she is Mileys god mother & they do a lovely version of Jolene together 😁 Home Free do an amazing version of this song with a hilarious video clip to go with it 😂
The song was for the movie 9 to 5, staring Miss Dolly , Jane Fonda, and Lilly Tomlin. They worked for a mean boss. They get the ultimate payback. I highly recommend you watch it . God bless
That tapping noise is her tapping her finger nails! You should see the movie nine to facts that she wrote this song for. The movie is hilarious! You'd love it. She can act too!
9 to 5 is a 1980 major motion picture starring Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, and Lily Tomlin. It was such a hit that it even had a spin-off TV series (1982-1988) starring one of Dolly’s younger lookalike sisters, Rachel Parton, as Doralee.
Dolly also did several Christmas movies. She is not the star, but are memories from her childhood. She Usually plays a relatively small part, but the movies still carry her personality and love for all people.
Subscribe to Dolly's channel. She actually likes to watch people react to her songs. She also reacts to tik tok videos of people playing her songs. Dolly is amazing. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and she refused because she does country, but they told her she was going to be inducted anyway. So, she got together with some of her Rock buddies and made a rock album
I hope you do Dolly at 77 singing "Purple Rain". She's incredible! But of course, you have to do her and Kenny Rogers live version of the Bee Gees' song "Islands In the Stream".
I went to one of her performances. She is so multitalented. She plays multiple instruments, writes so many songs I’ve lost count and has a such a great sense of humor.
Dolly is phenomenal she’s been performing since the sixties MANY albums the song “Coat of Many Colors “ so good 9 to 5 was a movie and then a musical on Broadway Dolly also has a theme park and her Imagination Library where they send kids books from birth to 5 years old
Millions of people appear to be as sweet, honest, and accepting of all people and then stab a friend in the back when no one is looking. Dolly isn't and never has been one of those. She is a sweetheart. I had a mother in law just like that. I still miss her.
As other people told you, 9 to 5 was a movie, but it was also a VERY short-lived TV show that didn't get good ratings. The show you're thinking of was called 227. The actor who played George Jefferson was on it once as a different character.
I will always love you was written and originally performed by Dolly Parton And Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin performed by Dolly is beyond compare!
Older Country Mysic songs are stories, Dolly is one of the best storytellers. Her voice is so unique and she knows how to use it as a major part of her storytelling. Applejack Coat of Many Colors Romeo Two Doors Down Are some of the songs she’s written. She has written some Gospel type songs & Christmas songs. She also can really tell (sing) the stories of other & older storyteller songs, Gospel & other songs. Her singing with other great Country & Western women singers are just as good as those she does solo.
She performed at Glastonbury festival this song was sung back to her by the crowd she was shocked as she didnt think they knew the song, its a massive anthem here in the U.K.
Since you're now into Dolly and Pentatonix, you should listen to the duet they did of Dolly's "Jolene"! They all won a Grammy Award for their collaboration! It's great! ❤
Omgosh 😂😂 I am laughing so hard .. u totally understood the song was for a show .. I watched that movie w my grandma.. love it!!! U should watch it There is a story Jane Fonda tells in an interview about working with Dolly Parton on the movie
Also adds layers, now add her career life. Port Wagner not wanting to let her go. Smart writing. Good humor. But it was in a movie she acted in 9 to 5 with Jane Fonda, Lilly Tomlin
It was a movie and funny. I love the ending because I worked when women were not equal. Dolly still runs Dollywood to pay for the more than 3 million books she sends to kids around the world. She knew what it was like to not have a book but she had a great Mother who told her stories. So kids who do not have books are on her list. We need so many more Dolly’s in this world and her hits are many. I know I had more than one of her LP’s. I loved Coat of Many Colours, Apple Jack and Love’s Like. Butterfly. The first two were about her childhood. Dolly may have grown up with nothing but she was grateful for everything. She couldn’t have her own children but she has heaps of nieces and nephews to spoil. Mikey Cyrus’s father wasn’t stupid when he asked Dolly to be his daughter’s Godmother.
You need to watch the movie by the same name. Has some wonderful actors, including 4:32 Dolly. The movie had: Dolly, Lilly Tomlin, Jane Fonda & Dabney Coleman.

Dollard boss played by Actor Coleman angered Dolly by telling the office he's aleeping with Dolly. Shev tells him....If I hear that RUMOUR AGAIN .....I'll CHANGE YOU FROM A ROOSTER TO A HEN WITH ONE SHOT!!!😂
The 80's was the Me Era. Everyone was optimistic about getting ahead, wanted to make a killing in the financial industry, like the movie Wall Street. Yeah, it's a stereotype, but that was the atmosphere. Despite that, it was worse for women in the workplace back then.
There was a sitcom based on the film with Rachel Dennison in Dolly's role--Rachel's maiden name was Parton...and she was Dolly's youngest sister. She was also a singer.
My suggestion for a Dolly song is Romeo. It features several top country female singers as well as Billy Ray Cyrus. It's funny and a total time capsule.

I met Dolly in 89 at her theme park and I met Kenny Roger's when worked at one of his restaurants
Correction: Dolly has written THOUSANDS of songs...
I'm pretty sure her theme park is called Dollywood and is awesome to go visit!
@larrygranbois4164 I haven't been there but it is indeed called Dollywood.

It was written for the film " 9 to 5" it's very funny and the actresses are wonderful, one of them being Dolly.
When she was asked to do this movie, she said yes but she wanted to write title song. Needless to say everyone was happy!

George Jefferson song was "Movin on up".
She also wrote the Whitney Houston song “I will always love you”
It's the theme to an incredibly funny movie of the same title.. you really want your mind blown, go look at how and when she wrote it.
And no... I can TOTALLY see the actor who played Jefferson with that stiff back thing he did... HYSTERICAL!!!
I hope you do Dolly at 77 singing "Purple Rain". She's incredible! But of course, you have to do her and Kenny Rogers live version of the Bee Gees' song "Islands In the Stream".
Dolly all week on the channel
Purple Rain is my favorite on that rock album of hers. Prince would be so happy with her doing this song
I went to one of her performances. She is so multitalented. She plays multiple instruments, writes so many songs I’ve lost count and has a such a great sense of humor.
How have you not heard this? I envy you. Hearing any Dolly song for the first time is life altering.

Cover song for movie 9 to5, which Dolly was in. Great flick!
They did turn the film into a sitcom in 82 and 83. You got that right. The Jefferson's series featured the song "Movin on Up (to the east side) with a very similar tempo.
It said it right on the screen. Scenes from the movie "9 to 5".
The clicking (sounds like typewriter) is done by Dolly clicking her nails together.
