      I've had Silver 100 7G Limited (green) Edition since last year november.
      In my humble opinion the main advantage of these speakers is excellent fidelity for medium singing voices in blues and jazz.

    Thank you for this! Another reviewer (North Coast, a retailer) reviewed the Monitors as well as part of a listening test with the Rotel A11 Tribute. They mentioned similar results with the treble in that they found the cymbals to be forward of the vocals and a bit hissy on multiple strikes vs being discreet. I was wondering if you have also reviewed the ELAC Unifi Reference UBR62? It is in my shopping list, but the Monitor Audio real veneer model had looked more attractive.

    I had the MA RX1 Silver and liked piano on it. Great for jazz, classical, acoustic but not for rock, movies, etc. Too laid back for some music but transparent and a wide, not really deep soundstage. Later, tried the MA Silver 100 6th ed., and found it similar to this description of the 7g. The Silver 100 6g could be fatiguing from upper mids to highs. Not so much as nuanced as it just threw everything at you. Constantly adjusting the volume level especially at night. I did like the lows and lower mids but not as tight and fast as my Focal 807Ws were. The upper mids and highs are great on the 807w.
    If I want a different standmount speaker with a larger woofer, I would definitely consider the Aperion. Right now, have ML 15i and I like it. While I think it is more a movie speaker, it does very well with music as well. While on the brighter side of neutral and kind of reminds me of MA Silver series, it avoids what I didn't like about the Silver 100s. Both use Aluminum drivers but the AMT/FMT tweeter avoids the sins of the gold tweeter in the MA.
    All my other speakers are paper type woofers, Focal 807W, Triangle Zeta and Dali Opticon 1s. I like what paper can do for music I listen to but Al has its merits. Typically, at least with British speakers, I haven't cared for most speakers using kevlar or similar type woven material, which is what Aperion seems to use, but who knows, I may like it.
    I did like the Silver 100s on some material, not going to say I hated those for everything, but seemed it had too many issues I couldn't overlook, even when it was nearly half price at the time.

    • @2ChannelListening
      @2ChannelListening  ปีที่แล้ว

      You summed up your experience well, glad you noticed the big difference between the RX series and these last couple generations. I'm not imagining it...lol. How do you feel about your Focal 807W treble?

    • @nc3419
      @nc3419 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@2ChannelListening I prefer the 807W treble to alot of speakers I have tried and like it better than the Poron version Focal uses now. Extended , airy without being overly harsh especially with Hegel and my Keces amps. Doesn't mean I don't like less "trebly" presentations, but depends on overall balance and expectations in music I listen to. There is something about the W driver too over the V versions which make a good combo. Haven't heard flax drivers, but no interest in the 906.
      Too much treble at certain frequencies can bother me , for example the Jamo C93i I once tried.
      Still, that old RX1 Silver could do something a bit special with overtones that stood out that many other could only hint at or didn't project. Focal 807W comes close, but better in most every other category. But its big and I am shrinking my systems down.
      Seriously considered the Dali Rubicon 1 as well as the new Neat Petite Classic. But settled on Opticon 1 (half price helped) for nearfield and living with the ML 15i and Triangle Zetas for now. The Zetas (like the old color series) could be considered the little brother to the Focals I have and are much preferred to the Borea series to me. Just a bit of glare with some material on human voice but aren't as forward sounding, something seductive in their presentation.
      In spite of being budget speakers, at low to moderate volumes, I enjoyed them better than more expensive speakers such as Quad S2 (flat stage, a speaker that couldn't get my toe tapping but fun for movies) as well as Dali Menuet SEs, did alot right, but for that resolution it heavily truncated detail in the music, perhaps designed that way to sound smooth, too smooth for me . Also, to get that resolution, it gave a much smaller image so only for nearfield. Much prefer the Opticon 1. The Opticon does nearly as well in the nearfield without hiding details in the music and still sounds satisfying from further away.
      So moving up in price by my experience didn't always yield better results for me particularly in my current setting, use and tastes in a moderately sized room. But no system is perfect, but mine are still very enjoyable. I have enjoyed other speakers too when I listened to them in either another person's setup or at a dealer's, far less today, but set the constraint on smaller designs supplemented with a sub (don't require much bass myself).
      Use both a Aune x8 with sparkos opamp and a Topping d70s dac, though I considered others. Budget can be good...enough. The little Keces E40 integrated is a really nice kit as well.

    how does the philharmonic BMR compare to these three bookshelf speakers?

    • @2ChannelListening
      @2ChannelListening  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The BMR has a truer mid-range neutrality to it, a little purer voicing, however, even the BMR wouldn't keep up with the bass of the Aperion. The BMR is still worth the extra $500, but its not a night day difference. Where the embarrassment would come in is the BMR vs. the Harbeth C7...those two come down to musical taste and mid-range preference.

    Try putting some nylon washers on the bolts, the boomi sound can be controlled by how tight it is as well, You not torque the bolts enough!! especially on the woofer, really crank it tight and fairly tight for the tweeter.
    Really they should have some blue loctite is there any signs on the threads? This would prevent this from happening. Has somebody already taken them apart? Another thing put some Teflon PTFE tape in a clockwise direction around the thread just twice should be enough, Really crank that bolt up on the woofer and fairly tight on the tweeter. Try and get both speakers even need to be balanced really, What you could do is use a guitar tuner try and set it to e flat if you can and play some test tones at 311.127Hz and an octave below this probably about 85 dB. Be Interesting to contact monitor audio and ask them what they recommend their suggestions as well set torque, don't be afraid to tighten the woofer and the tweeter fairly tight. If you got some plaster tape the spongy stuff, wrap it around the majority of the bolts leaving enough thread help with unwanted sound resonance from them the nylon washer will help as well. probably best to use a nylon washer and a steel washer where the steel washer would be against the cabinet. Is it bi-terminal? Try a resist in line somewhere from 0.5 to 1.2 ohms depends how bright they are?
