That was not a rant, that was a homage. Your joy, love and enthusiasm are just a delight. I am so glad that I'm getting to experience your re-discovery of Dirty Loops. This is the first Loops song I ever heard and needless to say I've never looked back and never been disappointed. For what it's worth I've always thought of "Next to You" as Dirty Loop's "Bohemian Rhapsody."

    • @hecdavid11
      @hecdavid11 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

Next To You is, to this day, still the best song from Dirty Loops in my opinion. It's like their thesis on how to turn jazz fusion into a pop song familiar enough for any listener. It's filled with chops from all of them, Jonah, Hendrik and Aron. But it's also a such a beautiful tune! There's a certain simplicity to it that makes me go back to this song every once in a while. It's not like some of their other songs (World on Fire, Work Sh*t Out for example) where the theme is mostly a showcase of their musical skills. This one is a pop song at heart, and they nail it.
I can't get that "doo doo do doo doo" from the tagline after the chorus outta my head!!!

I experience the Loops very much as you do, and I commented quite a while ago that this was their Bohemian Rhapsody (or in a more primitive vein, the Beach Boys' Good Vibrations). Not trying to one-up you, I'm just thrilled by everything you wrote in your comment.

Had to come back and hear that masterpiece again. It's an astonishingtour de force. I realise today in 50 years, listening to tens of thousands of tracks, its the best song I've ever heard. The creativity, composition, diversity of genres, production, soul, musicality, musicianship - it's got everything. It's almost too rich for the senses. Thanks for sharing your reaction to this work of art - it makes listening to it in appreciative company even more thrilling, educational and entertaining.

Your sentiments are mine as well. I'm pushing 70 and I've been a Musician 60 of those. I too have been profoundly affected by these three young brilliant Musicians. Rarely has a band in my 60 years impressed me the way Dirty Loops has. I'm not going to state the obvious regarding their Musicianship, individually or as a band. It would be redundant of me. However, I can sum up my feelings by saying that I truly believe that I am in the presence of greatness.
Miss Morissette Amon, a young and beautiful 24 year old Singer from the Philippines, whom I believe to be the greatest Pop Singer alive, has affected me in the very same manner.

Hey Jeff. I just want to thank-you for your heartfelt reactions to Dirty Loops. I also wept
when I watched this song. Pretty much for the same reason you did I think. I've also wept for everything else by them. I too am an older Gtr.
player. I started playing on stages in 1972. I
was very lucky to have been in bands that have opened for some of my favorite bands
over the years. (TOP, AWB, Doobies etc. The
singer in one of my earlier bands is now singing for Chicago. His name is Neil Donnell.
In spite of all the nice things I've done, I too had lost a lot passion for music. I've only
known about D Loops for about 6 months.
I am angry that none of my musical friends
told me about them. I came to them by accident by watching WolfPeck with Cory Wong which led me to the boys. I watched
Work Shit Out first, cryed, and like you, my faith in music was restored in the future of music. Thanks again for your passionate embrace of this wonderful amazing band who actually smile when they play just like we did back in the day.
Also on a personal note, If you do get another
chance to talk to any of the boys, (I've seen your chats with Jonah) (great stuff). Could you please thank them for bringing so much
musical joy into this difficult world and restoring the musical passion in another
older Gtr. player who really needed it. Keep up the great work Jeff.

I continue to keep in contact with Jonah on a regular basis and I'm happy to pass on the sentiment. I'm not sure how deeply you have delved into my videos but if you haven't seen my interview with Jonah it's a must! @@StrateleStudios Thank-you so much for your quick reply Jeff. I have seen all your Jonah interviews, great stuff. I've also seen pretty much everyhing you done with them or their side projects. How can Jonah be that talented, that humble, so nice and so giving? I've also seen interviews with Henrick and Aron. The same thing. My Daughter and I are both convinced they've hidden their Spacecraft outside Stockholm in a cave. As far as video evidence goes, I'm all over You tube. Mostly older stuff but some good bands (not dirty-loops good but what is?) Check out a band from Halifax N.S. called "Oakley" I got to open for a lot of great groups with that band.
Another amazing singer I played with was Frank Mackay. Amazing voice. World class. I'm in a bunch of videos with him. (i'm the guy jumping around a lot) ( I now have 2 hips that I was not born
with). Just for fun, check out one we did in "83. It's called Frank Mackay at the Biilly Club. I look
like Weird Al Yankovic for some reason. It also features (in my humble opinion) the best Blues
drummer and bassist to ever come out of Canada. If your on Face-book, I have some other stuff
from later on. Again Jeff, thanks so much for your passionate reactions, your love of the Loops,
and for taking the time to get back to me. Where would I find a way to contact you other than
this forum? Hope to talk to you soon. Thank's again. Dave G.

Three cool cats from Sweden having a good time. Seriously, I have over the last 50 years listened to a lot of good music in the soul/ funk department. MJ, George Benson,Level 42, Chaka Khan, Luther Vandross, Lisa Stansfield, Malcolm McDonald, Anita Baker, QJ's epic "Dude" album with James Ingram and Patti Austin to name a few, but never have I been so euphoric about a new group as I am with DL. It seems that there music style hits all the right buttons in my body/brain and I can't get enough, it is truly addictive. For me the pinnacle era music wise was the 80ies and after that the music quality has gradualy declined but DL gives me hope for the future (and I'm not saying this because I am a Swede myself). Their music simply knows no boundaries, it is universal.

this is one of the best and most authentic reaction videos i ever saw. i just love it. your words and emotions desribe perfectly my feelings as i heard it for the first time. speechless, thankful that music like this exists and that these guys are sharing it with us. and this song is one of the biggest proof that its totally rubbish, when old musicians (like you and me...:) ) are sometimes saying: "baaah, there is no good music these days. in earlier times everything was better."
its a pure myth and it will be often "prooved" with charts of earlier days. and as a proof they took out one of the rare weeks where occasionally some really good stuff was accidentically on top of the charts, which was pretty rare in the "good old days" too...
in fact "next to you" is the best ever written pop songs at all to me personally. to combine so different styles in such a way is an absolut masterpiece. sorry for queen (s bohemian rhapsody) who stay on top of my list for decades (its of course still a genius song...).

Dirty Loops reduces me to tears with their splendor. If I logged a nickel for every listening minute I’d be loaded by now. They are such a gift to existence and I’m truly grateful. I continue to be astounded by them.

Totally agree. I turn 70 soon, and in my lifetime of enjoying music of all kinds, this is so very exciting. I love everything these guys do. As a bass player virtually turned to stone by watching Henrik's mastery, yes he is more than half a rhythm section. He is half an orchestra, percussion and harmony, filling arrangements with interesting ideas at lightning speed. In actual awe at how they come together as an ensemble.

Every Dirty Loop song brings me joy in waves (or maybe loops). First wave of joy is simply the catchiness of the song, the joy of hearing a really good song. The second wave of joy is to marvel at their skills, the arrangements, the musicality, the complexity and the extremely well enginereered, mixed and mastered sound (and videos). The third wave of joy is to see how easy and playful it seems, how fun it seems, to kind of experience their joy of performing the song. And then, lastly, the joy of watching others experience the same thing through all reaction videos. I never really watched reaction videos before this, but now I'm kind of addicted - and this one, to see you, an experienced and skilled musician, react and get the same overwhelming feelings from their performance as I and many others have experienced, is truly a gift of joy. I love Dirty Loops. The bassist and drummer are just so tight and in the pocket, they can each do all the fancy stuff but the foundation is rock solid. Then the singer is just incredible with an incredible range as well as being a great keyboard player. They are so technically gifted, but they make it look so effortless and fun and they obviously throw some of their jazzy influences in but it always remains melodic with hooks at accessible to the non-musician or people who don't understand all the theory which often makes jazz fusion inaccessible to the lay person.

A brilliant thing about that choir? It's just Jonah. All of it. Henrik said this about it in an interview in Bass Magazine:
“Then at the last minute, Aron wrote the gospel choir parts. He sent a very funny demo in which he marked where all the different gospel parts come in and what kind of voice they had. When Jonah recorded them, he had a chalkboard with all the different characters in the choir, and he distorted his voice to match each character and so none of them would sound like him.” !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just love your reaction! ❤️ Can't agree with you more. You are discovering them just as I did coming back and forth. Them growing with every song.

Next to you is one of my favourites songs. For all.
Awaiting you do their quarantine songs "Song for Lovers"
    - Bitten by the Kitten (Aron & Henrik. Instrumental)
    - Coffee break is over (Jonah, Henrik & Aron - Instrumental)
    - Pink power (Aron & Henrik. Instrumental)
And my favourite of the series ..
    - OLD ARMANDO HAD A FARM (Aron & Henrik - Instrumental)
As someone write in their comments:
"Aron: Ah man, the banjo player can't make it today.
Henrik: All good. I got my bass. I'll take it from here..."
P.S.. if you want a little more fun with their songs.. You should read the end credits. They have funny little hidden gems...

Same reaction with me when I heard it for the first time. Dirty Loops is definitely one of the best pop fusion-gospel bands right now. Thanks for reviewing sir! ❤️

This song has reminded me that there is nothing better than real people, playing real instruments.
This drummer has been given the gift of time by Our Creator, and uses that gift to make this band swing like few I've heard lately.
    Plus, those vocals.........

Can’t wait for when the next vid’s from Turbo will be released. With DL the visuals is adding so much more than only how they play their instruments.

you are literally the only guy on YT who gets the divine insanity of this musicianship. It's them and Snarky Puppy and then a lot of empty space...
