    Finally, the video I was looking for!
    1. Using the PTM + UX Pro.
    2. Initial testing. Decent improvement.
    3. 5 week later testing with temps, usage. Dramatically better results.
    I am officially sold on it now. Thank you for your video. I’m running a i9-12950HX with a mobile 3080 Ti. I hope to get some improvements as I am sitting at 95°C doing absolutely nothing. The LM was applied incorrectly from factory so it’s been throttling like hell. And I don’t care for LM, as I’ve been researching these better hassle free pads. Kind of upsetting for such an expensive machine!

      Same here, on a predator 300, CPU went from 94°C, 3800MHz, 35W to 79°C, 4200MHz, 45W. Got some improvements on GPU as well ~13°C. It was on thermal grizzly before.

      I opened mine up today and the LM was literally everywhere EXCEPT the die exactly as you described 💀
      It all pooled up around the cpu and gpu but nowhere on it, I'm waiting for my PTM & U6 Pro to arrive, anything is better than LM atm considering it never stays where it needs to be.

      @@TheAwwWtfYup, G733-CX. It’s annoying. I didn’t know it would look like such a mess. From what I’ve gathered is that if you travel or store your laptop like normal and it tilts, the drip happens. If you can always keep it laying flat, you should be ok. A shame for such an expensive machine.

      @@thomasjohnson8517 Exact same model as me, it just took me 3 hours to clean it because of how much liquid metal they put on, like they put a crazy amount on mine, I swear they just ketchup bottle farted out a glob onto the die.. it was ridiculous..
      And yeah I figured it had to do with my traveling, the heat issues only kicked in after I had gone on a few work trips where it was lugged around in a backpack and I can only imagine what the turbulence of planes does to it, suddenly went from playing top end games to throttling when I played Half-Life 2...

    Nice to see a PTM test with UX Pro. I tested with U6 Pro and it was also better than on the standard thermal pads from the laptop producer. I suggest for your next tests do a 10 minute throttling test in Cinebench and show the average frequencies of the cores their temperatures and the number of points before and after applying new paste.

    I've never been a fan of IHS lapping but due to the ultrathin bondline of Honeywell PTM, I could see it being hugely beneficial, especially if the heatsink is lapped on the bottom.

    Thank you so much for this video!!!
    I followed this video to re-do my 2024 Scar 16 4090 laptop with Upsiren UTP-8.
    I went less than 5mm with a log diameter(probably 3mm).
    It initially didn't work and I was thermal throttling with 105C GPU hotspot.
    I assumed GPU VRAMs putty was too thick, normal mounting pressure was not enough to keep the gpu die contact with the heatsink.
    I generously hand pressed the area where the putty was put near GPU die, and I finally achieved a good temp.
    I hope others who have a problem with bad temp after redoing thermal putty,
    they should try to press down the heatsink to squeeze the putty a bit while mounting and screwing the heatsink.

      Yeah, laptops have much less mounting pressure, so it's definitely a good idea to apply some manual pressure to help squeeze the putty.
      And if anyone runs into issues, a good place to ask for help is the Discord server. It's a growing community and the members have been great at helping each other out.

    With PTM7950 you lay the sheet down over the die and press down to make impression into it. Then you simply cut it out. Perfect size every time.

      @@SpAzMaNiK I currently recommend cutting it smaller than the die by about 3mm on all 4 sides. Makes 2nd peel much easier, and you still get full coverage as 80% of it flows out once it changes Phase.

    PTM7950 works great on my laptop CPU. It is very hard to find a paste that works as good, I tried many many pastes in the last 3 years. Actually only two pastes were able to match PTM7950 (Koolingmonster Kold-01 and Aerocool Fuzion). Soon I will try the paste version of PTM7950.

      @@snarksdomain Maybe it works on your laptop too. I don't understand why so many pastes are so much worse than these two+PTM7950 on my laptop CPU. Maybe Kold-01 and Fuzion are the same, not sure. Some of the specs are identical like thermal Impedance, density, Viscosity. Consistency is very similar to me and performance within +-0.5°C.

      @@snarksdomain Another good one for direct die chips might be Shin-Etsu 7868. In this test it's 1°C better than PTM7950:

      @@snarksdomain Kold-01 might be a rebrand of DOWSIL TC-5888 --> same specs. It wouldn't surprise me because TC-5888 is great in most tests.

    When i come back from my vacation I will try this on my RX 5700 XT for OC purposes, because what really holds back the gpu, Is the hotspots temp
    Normally if i were to try to overclock my gpu the temp would be this
    Hotspot: 110c
    GPU core: 79-85
    With those Temps my gpu would normally throttle.
    So if I used ptm7950 it would help with the Hotspot temp by a lot, Give me thermal headroom for overclocking, And a Rx 5700 xt with good temps will happily overclock.
    Can't wait to get the full potential out of my silicon chip.

    Finally found gold. Almost ordered for padd until i did a little more research and found it could damage chips if wrong thickness is used. Well I'll just go with putty and paste (for cpu and gpu). Have you used Zezzio zt-py6 putty from ali? Planning on getting that. (haven't decided on paste yet)

      Zezzios is decent putty. There are better and worse. All on the charts.
      You'll want to buy 20g for a laptop. You might use ~15g.

    Thanks for the video. The only reason I'm not buying these Upsiren putties right now is because they put the name of computer system gr (the lab that makes K5 pro) on the box. It is kind of sketchy.

      I can totally understand that. Hopefully that gets sorted out at some point.
      If you're still interested in using a high end putty with similar performance and consistency, then I'd recommend Penchem TH949-1.

    This seems like pretty good stuff. I've heard of PTM7950 but never bothered looking into it much. I'm assuming while doing the PTM7950 application, it's recommended to put UX Pro on the chips that need them? I've been looking at Aliexpress to grab both since I've been thinking about replacing the stock stuff Asus put into the two G15 AE's I have.

      I would say most people you ask don't even know what thermal putty is and would recommend pads, but yeah, I'd recommend a quality putty like UX Pro on VRAM, VRM's and anywhere else where there is a pad. If thermal Putty and PTM are good enough for Lenovo to use in gaming laptops, then it should be okay for us too.
      I'm pretty happy with my laptop results thus far. I will revisit this same laptop a year from now to report on how the thermals are holding up.

    Hey snark, I have some questions I'd like to ask regarding Upsiren UX Pro,
    1. Will 20g of putty be enough to replace the pads on a PS4 and 3080Ti?
    2. How long can the putty last after application?
    3. How long can I keep the putty assuming I have excess putty leftover in the container after applying them onto what I want?

      I would recommend getting 50g. That might even be a bit tight to do both.
      It should last a very long time, so I would also recommend picking something like PTM7950 for the core. That way you don't have to open it up again for a long time (until thermals tell you otherwise).
      As far as how long unused putty lasts, it may differ between the putties, but I have ~3 year old TG-PP10 that is still soft and easy to use. I store it inside a zip lock bag at room temperature.
      My presumption is that most silicone based putties should behave similarly in regards to longevity of storage.
      As an example, MG860 has a shelf life of 5 years (not very high performing, though). Putties are generally used in long life applications, often never being replaced.

    Great work as usual. Thanks for sharing. I have some unused PTM7950 sheets in my bag and will def be trying them on my Area51m R2 laptop after viewing your interesting results. My laptop has a standard issue 10700K desktop CPU in it though and the gains might not be as signficant when using the PTM7950 on the lapped IHS top surface. The CPU *is* deildded, however and having gotten decent but not great results using LM on the CPU die, I'm wondering if the PTM7950 might be worth experimenting with in place of LM and in between the CPU die and IHS underside.

      It can't hurt to test it out. It's certainly safer to use than LM.

      @@snarksdomain I've seen some interesting tests (forget the source) comparing LM to PTM7950 and the delta between the two was slim to none after the same repeated heat cycles you demonstrate with your own testing. I believe it was on a typical IHS and in place of thermal paste, though and also on a bare GPU die.
      Since the A51mR2 laptop is a bit of a special case internally, the typical nitpicky process of getting the LM application *just* right between the CPU die and delidded IHS underbelly is exponentially more tricky. The results were good, especially the freakishly low delta (~1c to 2c) between the 8 CPU cores but the overall thermal gains were not as good as desktop delid projects I've done. Better than the stock Indium "solder" but still not ideal imo.
      Even though the laptop mb uses a typical and standard 3-point 10th gen ILM bracket with a regular 10700K CPU, the fact that all of that has to be designed within tolerances appropriate to the very dense confines of a mobile chassis make getting that crucial LM-to-IHS equation to resolve is a bit more vexing than say on my 13th gen desktop rig which is also using a delidded CPU; there are just too many design variables (and perhaps compromises) that afffect precise alignments within the laptop chassis and thereby also the end results when buttoning up the CPU delid/relid.
      As per our other DM on Reddit, I have some Upsiren UX Pro on the way and will be trying that in lieu of the typical TG-PP10 that I've used for a few years now. I opted for the Pro vs the Ultra simply due to your helpful comments on it being a bit more tacky than the drier, clay-like Ultra material.
      I'll share some info once I have a moment to do the work. Best regards and have fun...

      That does sound like a tricky laptop application.
      I've got some Indium thermal pads I need to test out once I do all the shim testing. I bought 2 thicknesses. 1.8mm and 1.6mm (if me.ory serves correct). Will have to see how they perform. Also have Aluminum Nitride shim material.

      @koukakoko9972 The Thermal Putty? I used Thermal Putty instead of Thermal Pads. The difference between Putty and Pads is that Putty doesn't have as much binding agent to make it cure and keep it's form.
      There are many Putties to choose from. To see how they compare with each other you can take a look at the charts located at the Google Drive link in video description (Test Chart Repository>VRAM TIM>ETCHASH).

    Nice job hopefully you get to try out the thinner laptops like the Acer Triton 500 (they use low quality putty) Asus Zephyrus/ROG Strix and the Dell Alienware x17/m16/m18 in the future :D

      I'll see if I can borrow my friends card which has had UX Pro in it for 14 months so far. If so I'll test it again with same parameters as before and see what the temperatures look like.

    i repasted my liquid devil 7900 XTX 2 times i run it at unleashed bios 410w total board power fresh mx-4 it performed 75c hotspot but then 1-2 weeks later get really bad as pumpout effects heat and cooling cycles keep pumping away paste till i get 92c hotspot i suspect after a year i be having 110c hotspot, so yesterday i put on PTM7950 i got better results like 66c hotspot right away first minutes 72c hotspot in 3D occt i put my PTM7950 in the freezer my pad had tiny rip at edge but came out fine smudged it down put on cooler so far so good.
    when i took of cooler i had dry spot down the middle of my GCD.
    my liquid devil 7900 XTX is cooled by 1 single Mo-ra3 420 with NF-A20 my fear is still it will get worse but i hope it gets better.
    And when i aplied MX-4 i used almost to much spread manual + extra in middle like drop everyone would probably say to much but it gave good results for a week maybe 2 weeks.

      I use the same method when applying paste. I even spread a thin layer and place a dot in the middle.
      Sounds like PTM7950 is working well for you so far. Let us know what it's like after a while and if you run into any issues. It will be interesting to see how it does with high wattage heat cycles.

      @@snarksdomain This is after about 6 days 3D occt at shader complexity 3 hits hardest of all so at 21c watertemp i hit 65c hotspot in 1 minute run i always test for 1 minute cos my loop does not heatsoak its a Mo-ra3 420 gaming hotspot is usually never higher then 3D occt anyway i.imgur.com/QifjNHe.png

      Upsiren asked me a few months ago if they could include links to my videos in their product listings. I gave them permission to do so, as well as screenshots if they wanted to.
      That being said, I've seen some charts that look similar and use similar colours as the charts I previously used in my videos (Green text on black backround).
      Going forward, I'm including a "Snarks Domain" watermark, which they are also okay to have in their product listing if they so choose.
      I'm not getting any money from this, but it does potentially increase viewers/subscriptions. I do receive some free samples from them, although I have bought more myself than received for free.
      Originally, when I posted the 3D Graphite video, there was discussion about receiving a portion of profits from sales originating from the link I posted on that video. The sales never amounted to enough to justify actually getting anything though and I'm no longer interested in receiving any form of payment for sales of stuff. To be clear, I made the video of those pads before any discussion regarding any form of compensation, and bought the pads myself.

    2:26 that´s how "pump out" effect looks like and Kryonaut is known for this. Arctic MX-5 does the same (but worse, literally all paste will be gone within a month, that´s why they stopped making it).
    GPUs and laptops simply require different paste, than CPUs. Most of the usual CPU stuff, like Noctua, Arctic MX-4, Thermal Grizzly etc. won´t work there for long.
    I can only confirm from personal experience, that Arctic MX-6 does work and has no pump out. At least so far.

      I just wish I hadn't left it so long. Luckily I mostly game on my Desktop PC. I'll probably get some MX-6 for testing. I've got some Upsiren PCM-1 on the way as well as a piece of Thermal Grizzly Kryosheet, so it will be interesting to see how they all stack up against each other. Will likely test them out on a standalone CPU testbench.

      From my experience with Kryonaut and Extreme pastes are not suitable for laptops with high TGP, TDP where the temperature is close to 80°C for a longer period of time. After 8 months, its thermally conductive properties deteriorate significantly. So far with PTM7950 I do not experience this after ~14 months.

      mx-5 had production issues, its why arctic quickly cancelled it. they improved the processing for it and relaunched it as mx-6

    I have an acer nitro 5 2022 model with i9 12900h and rtx 3060
    The cpu is always thermal throttling at 92c in most games
    The gpu reaches 81c with auto fan speed i put them on around 5k rpm to reach 74c on gpu but cpu is still throttling
    Do you recommend i use ptm 7950 on dies and u6 pro putty for vrms and other parts that have stock thermal putty?
    Or is the heat sink of acer nitro just bad that it wouldn't matter much ?
    I have repasted the dies with mastergel pro v2 from cooler master but didnt change thermal putty

      I think it would be worthwhile either trying a different paste or going with PTM7950 or PCM-1 on CPU and GPU Die.
      While I think upgrading the putty is a good thing, it likely won't improve temperatures of CPU or GPU Die, but may lower hotspot temps.
      I wish GDDR6 in laptops has temperature sensors. I wonder if AMD laptops include more sensors.
      Either U6 Pro or UX Pro would be good if you do decide to change the putty.

      @ibrahem2634 It seems like your cooler only has the 3 heatpipes. 1 for CPU, 1 for GPU, and then the 3rd transfers heat between the fan blocks.
      Some folks add heat pipes to their laptops to increase heat transfer to the blocks, but it does take some finess, and there is added risk if the added pipes aren't well fixed in place.
      With not enough heatpipes, it's like rush hour traffic. Bumper to bumper heat.

      @@snarksdomainthat sounds like it would solve the heat problem but there is no one where I live that would do that (I'm in Egypt) stuff like that certainly requires experience
      And I wouldn't trust myself with that too tbh I would be scared of messing something up I will try ptm 7950 and hopefully it would help out with the heat

    Hi. Do you think the Honeywell PTM7950 from the same seller that you bought the Upsiren UX Pro is original? Watched LTT and he said that there's a counterfeit floating around.
    Btw, hopefully you can also test the Upsiren PT-1. And they also come out with with their own thermal paste, UTG-X. Hope you can test that too. Thank you.

      Mlddle999 Store sent me UTG-X and PCM-1, along with an assortment of copper shims for different cards and some socket lga1700 anti warping/bending CPU brackets.
      I haven't been able to find Upsiren PT-1. Could you send me a link to it?
      As for PTM7950, I'm not sure. I bought a cheap sheet of it off ebay but it has different colour plastic film and a different sticker/traceability as the one from Moddiy did. I'll be testing Legit PTM7950, Ebay PTM7950, and Upsiren PCM-1 head to head, along with a few pastes and also Kryosheet.

      @jeantwitchs8947 Hello Jeantwitches. Glad you found the channel. There are a bunch if good putties to choose from. The full list can be found using the Google Drive link below (Test Chart Repository). The current top 3 performing putties are Honeywell HT10000, Upsiren UTP-8 and Fehonda LTP81. UTP-8 is cheaper than the other 2.
      You'll need about 20g of whichever putty you decide to go with.
      Have you considered using a Phase Change Material on your CPU and GPU core? A good option would be Honeywell PTM7950 sheet.

    I have a gigabyte g5 kf with the RTX 4060, it usually hits 90°c according to the osd app under intense gaming. Is it worth it to try repasting the gpu and cpu with PTM?

      @3dollarsperfrown Your GPU hits 90C? It it's just the CPU hitting 90C that's more common in a laptop, but the GPU should be running cooler (ideally).
      Yeah PTM on CPU and GPU and putty on VRAM, VRM and coils.
      Check out the charts located at the Google Drive Link in video description (Test Chart Repository>VRAM TIM>ETCHASH). You'll want to buy 20g or putty (should cost you $15 or less)

      I kind of like both putties. Clay like putties are nice to work with, but I can also see use cases where a softer and stickier putty could be more ideal where ocassional flexing/compression are applied to the assembly. Most laptops should be stiff enough to not run into issues, of handled with care.
      I suppose it comes down to personal preference and budget.

      For the core either Honeywell PTM7950, Thermalright Heilos, Upsiren PCM-1, or one of the other similar Phase Change Materials.

    Hi, thank you for the video. Aorus 15g KC user here (1yr older model slim case). My temps are high and I want to apply PTM7950 to it. The problem is, the difference at thickness will probably make me change my thermal pads too. After seeing your video, I thought "ah.. why don't I use that?". But I have some conserns and questions as ;
    1. I know you said the consistency is better but wil I still have to use toothpicks when I want to remove?
    2. Why did you use too much? Can I spread it approximately as thermal pads' thickness?
    3. Would 10g enough?
    I also wonder if the PTM7950 is electrically conductive.

      I think you'll be happy with results, although the slim model may have more restricted cooling capability. I'm guessing yours has 115 watt TGP or lower for the videocard?
      1. This UX Pro removes MUCH easier than a sticky putty like TG-PP10 or U6 Pro. It will leave a light grey coating that can easily be cleaned up with isopropyl alcohol and a Q-Tip (cotton swab).
      2A. I'm using the correct amount as it will squish down easily to the thickness of the gap.
      2B. I prefer placing a "rope" of it in place rather than trying to shape it like a thermal pad. It is my opinion that during assembly, the squishing/flowing effect helps to scour both surfaces with flowing putty and does a better job of "prepping" both surfaces and improving adhesion. Another viewer and user of thermal putty (@s1rrah) has a different but equally effective emethid of improving adhesion by rubbing both surfaces with some putty first to apply the light putty film beforehand. I will definitely be trying out their method in the future asit certainly won't hurt and might turn into a "best practice" even.
      3. 10g is not enough. You should purchase at least 20g for a laptop. 10g is only 2.875 Cubic centimeters of putty.
      PTM7950 does not conduct electricity. Lenovo uses PTM7958 on their gaming laptops (along with Jeyi 8100 Putty). PTM7958 is an even higher performing Phase Change Material, and I'll switch to using it as soon as it is available in sheet format. I find the syringe format is difficult to apply and also need extra time and steps to allow the solvent to evaporate before assembly.

      If gaps are larger than 0.5mm, then any of the top end putties will do the trick, take your pick.

    Nice vidéo ! What are the size of the log used on the vram ? Going to use this combination on my laptop soon and wanted to know the diameter of the logs, since an excessive amount could leave some space in between the gpu/cpu die right ? FYI i have a 2021 ROG Strix G15 G513, should i put something similar to what you have put on yours ?

      That's correct, you don't want to use too much or it can create core contact issues. I like UX Pro, but there are better options for a laptop, and some that perform the same or better than UX Pro and are cheaper.
      My current go-to is Upsiren UTP-8. It just slightly beats UX Pro, is softer which makes it easier to compress, and cheaper. I also really like Fehonda LTP81 as it is also similar performance and nice and soft (but not runny, just a good soft, easy to form by hand). Fehonda is currently a little more expensive than UX Pro. I'm hoping Fehonda will soon sell it in largewr quantities on Aliexpress.
      As for the size of the logs I'd recommend taking a look at the Putty Calculator I made on Google Drive (Test Chart Repository). You can also take a look at the latest charts there (VRAM TIM folder > ETCHASH folder)
      I likely used a little too much and so it took a bit to get the Phase Change fully melted and ideal core contact. It CAN be done with UX Pro, but it takes some care not to use too much.

      @sy4nr 10g is never enough. For a laptop you will likely use around 30-40 grams. It's closer to 30 once you get used to using Putty.
      As an example, on my 3070ti test card I use ~15 grams just for the 8 VRAM modules.
      You can use the putty calculator to figure out how large of rolls/logs to use. It's located in the Test Chart Repository link in video description. Feel free to "Make A Copy" and modify as needed for your own laptop or videocard. You basically punch in the dimensions of a thermal pad, and it will tell you the amount of putty to match the pad, and diameter to use. The density can effect it, but most good putriws AR in the 3.2 - 3.8 grams per cc.

    Great video. I have an MSI Crosshair 15 and I am going to do some upgrades. While I'm at it I want to repaste the CPU and GPU. I purchased some Honeywell PTM7950. After watching this video I also want to do the UX Pro Thermal Putty for the vrams. Will 20g be enough and should I use the Putty or PTM for the GPU?

      If you only use the putty for VRAM then 20g will be enough. If you also want to do VRM and other areas where there are pads then 50g would be better.
      Definitely use PTM for the GPU core and CPU.

      @boredjay305 there is a difference in performance, but not a big gap. For laptops I'd currently recommend U6 Pro over UX Pro as it is a bit easier to compress. U6 is also cheaper per gram.

    A rare find, some1 actually testing chinese thermal stuff, keep up the good work. Have you tried the Zezzio ZT-PY6 or the CXH1300 putty? Both of them have 13W/mK rating and the zezzio looks like exactly as the U6 pro. The zezzio could be the same as the U6 from the same OEM factory, the CXH look like a U6 clone.

    Given that the putty on vram will splash under pressure, which thickness of the ptm should I use? I was going for a 0.2mm pad but I'm not sure. 😅

      Since the PTM will melt down to around 0.038mm (or 0.0015"), you can just put enough putty to replace the stock thermal pads. UX Pro is good, but there are softer putties available that are more suited to Laptops and other low compression applications.
      I'm currently really liking UpIren UTP-8 and CX-H1300.

      @RGRG-vc6ii You should be fine with just the one layer. Having 2 layers would not be ideal as your CPU and GPU core temps would be horrible with a gap that large.
      Of you run into core contact issues it would be best to apply some pressure to the cooler to help squish the putty and try again.

      Hey it's me again. Had to service another laptop and got mad messing up with gelid pads thicknesses.
      Now it is ux time on my Msi GS75.
      I beg you for one last tip please:
      From factory it had 0.5, 1 and 2mm very very soft thermal pads plus a thin layer of a paste similar to k5 in a small socket.
      What diameter for the ux rolled logs do you suggest to apply? I'm trying to pinpoint a single diameter for everywhere to simplify the whole thing...

      @Carlos-if4mr Hey Carlos. For PTM7950 you will need at least 1 piece .easuring 40x40mm, but 40x80mm would give you extra in case you run into issue and need to redo it (both CPU and GPU core). As for where to buy PTM7950 you have some options. LTT, Moddiy are both legit and also expensive. You can also buy what is most likely legit stuff from "Passionate Girl Store" on Aliexpress. The Aliexpress stuff seems to have similar/matching results as the Moddiy stuff. There is also PTM7950 on Ebuy7, Amazon, Ebay, Alibaba, Lazada. You'd only want to buy from a seller with very good reviews for that specific product. It might be hit or miss though. You could also go woth something like Upsiren PCM-1, Thermalright Heilos, or similar. Heilos has verification stickers to check if it's real.
      As for putty, you'll need at least 20 grams. Upsiren UTP-8 is quite good and I think you can find it on Ebuy7 or Alibaba for Europe. You could also go with Fehonda LTP81 or LTP65, Laird T-Putty 607, Honeywell HT10000. CX-H1300 13.5 is good, but recently they've had significant batch variance with it being stuffer. If you get a soft batch it's great, but if you get a stiff batch it is harder to compress during reassembly. Fehonda putties can be bought on Aliexpress or directly from Fehonda website (contact sales and ask for quote). Halnziye HY236 or HY256 are another good option for laptops as it is soft, cheap, and performs decently. Can be bought from Aliexpress, directly from Halnziye website (contact for a quote).
      Once you have the bottom cover removed, disconnext the battery cable. As for application I recommend rolling logs and placing anywhere there was a thernal pad, then test fit the cooler and tighten cooler screws and press down on the cooler and hold for 20-30 seconds. Then take the cooler back off and see how the putty has spread. Add or remove as needed. Once you think you have the ideal amount then apply the PTM7950 or other PCM of your choice. I recommend cutting it smaller that the CPU and GPU core by 2-3mm on all 4 sides. It makes it easier to do 2nd peel. 80% of it will squish out once you melt it, so all the CPU/GPU will get coverage.
      I recommend reshaping the putty and then install the cooler, press and hold to squish putty, then reconnect battery cable.
      I like doing a ~2 hour burn in with Furmark and Prime95/Cinebench (Multi). That way the PCM on the CPU and GPU will both melt and flow out excess. Expect to see initially bad temperatures, with is improving during the burn-in and gradual improvement in the coming days and weeks.

      It spreads when it gets squeezed. It wasn't too much as it did not create core contact issues. For a laptop, I recommend getting 50g of whichever putty you go with. Be sure to check the latest VRAM TIM charts following the link in the description (Test Chart Repository).

      @user-og5rr2ic8k A 3mm gap will be fine with a good putty, as long as you bought the correct U6 Pro (Upsiren China), and not the wrong U6 Pro (CSGR Greece).
      If you are living in Europe, then the U6 likely won't be delivered and you'd be better off with a different putty such as Upsiren UTP-8, CX-H1300, or Laird T-Putty 607.

    This tells me my 140w rdna2 shiddy MSI mech has plenty of thermal headroom with this pad.
    It has the Same heatpipe design and tdp as that 3080 laptop but with an extra fan for chuckles sake since its a dgpu.

      It's quite possible you could see some improvement, but obviously I can't guarantee anything. Lots of variables at play.
      I will say that the faster we can transfer heat to the cooler, the hotter the fins get, which increases the delta between fin temperature and air temperature. The higher the delta, the more joules of heat that get dumped into the air passing by, and the higher the cooling affect. For some it will result in lower temperatures (fixed or max fan speed), for others it will mean lower fan speed and a quieter PC. Depends which matters more to you.

    Can I ask a favour? Is the UX Pro still malleable at Fridge/Freezer temps? Thinking that you could 3D print moulds for the components/strip of components to suit the right shape and thickness. Would help to minimise waste and wouldn't set off the same OCD triggers as the log rolls lol :P

      I hear you on the OCD side of things. I'll try to roll smoother rolls.
      I'm not sure how malleable it would be at lower temps. May have to experiment.
      That being said, if you wanted to make moulds you could make them fit around VRAM and then fill them up like Cement forms and then scrape along the top to collect excess. Just be sure to have the "pad" height matching stock thermal pads.
      With math, we can be very accurate with putty and use the log method.

      Now onto your point about math and the log method - I have binged a few of your videos today and heard you mention this point. Can you point me in the right direction for the theory behind it? I can only assume the size of the log would change depending on the thickness of the previous padding etc.
      I'm currently planning on doing my CPU (PTM), GPU (PTM & UX Pro), Xbox Series X (PTM & UX Pro) and might even check out my MOBO given its out of warranty now too. So as I said, your videos have gotten a good workout from me today :P

      I didn't weigh the putty before and after, unfortunately.
      For a laptop, if you only replace the pads on the VRAM, then 20g is enough. Otherwise, I'd recommend getting 50g. It is likely closer to 30-35g by my estimation.

      20-25 grams should be enough for your laptop. I'll be redoing this laptop in the next couple weeks and will be sure to measure the amount of putty I use.
      As for how much putty did I buy....the only answer I have to that questions is "All of it". lol. Jokes aside, I've spent thousands of dollars of various different Thermal Putties.

      CX-H1300 is good. Recently the batches have been firmer than they were previously and perform about 2 degrees worse than it shows on the chart.
      This still puts it as outperforming U6 Pro slightly, but definitely behind Upsiren UTP-8 and Fehonda LTP81.
      It will just require a bit more pressure to be applied during reassembly. definitely a good budget option.

      @@jonnypena7651 Yeah, I hope so too. I tried buying from 4 different sources a couple months ago and they were all stiffer. Hopefully whoever makes CX-H1300 sorts out the batch consistency. The OG batch I have is still soft.
      It's still usable in it's stiffer form. Just takes a bit more effort to compress it. You can knead it in your hand like dough for a couple minutes to soften it up a little before application.

    Guys use less putty as it will spread especially over RAM chips. This much causes it to store unwanted heat.

      I'll definitely be testing out ropes of putty vs balls of putty. Will do it on the test card though. I still think there is a benefit of having a large strip of it gripping onto the componenet/PCB. Less chance of being displayed if you drop your laptop.

    I have an Asus TUF a15 (R7 4800H + 1650ti)
    i did repaste a few months ago with gelid GC4 on VRAM(hard and expensive to get putty in India) and gelid GC extreme on CPU+GPU
    but it's horrible i am thinking of doing ptm7950 + some kind of thermal putty but there is no real comparison for noobies between all the versions of upsiren (UX vs UTP-8 vs pro etc)

      If you laptop has gaps smaller than 0.5mm, I recommend Halnziye HY236 / HY256. It can be bought directly from Halnziye or perhaps on Alibaba or Ebuy7.
      If your laptop has gaps larger than 0.5mm the. You could use Honeywell HT10000, Upsiren UTP-8, Fehonda LTP81, or others.

    Awesome videos, you're extremely informative! I purchased a Asus Zephyrus Duo 16 (2023) about 5 months ago and recently started getting signs of thermal throttling. My GPU memory junction is reading 102c and gpu Hotspot will hit over 87c (seen it as high as 91c). CPU temps on this thing run hot too, over 95c in games unless I turn boost off and it'll stabilize around 73c (also in games).
    I repasted the gpu with thermal grizzly paste, and the cpu I redid with thermal grizzly liquid metal. However, still getting these ridiculous temps, so I'm thinking I missed a spot somewhere or didn't get a great application.
    Finally got my ptm7950 sheets in, and I have Upsiren UX Pro coming today too. Hoping to see some great results with this.
    Questions I have though, is how much putty should I roll up for that laptop? Im sure you don't have the same brand laying around, but what size diameter log should I shoot for? And how to know I'm not adding too much that it's causing stress on the Vrms?
    Again, solid stuff, your vids are such a great resource!

      That's a nice laptop. Cool that it has memory junction sensors.
      For putty log diameters you can calculate it based off OEM pad thickness x OEM pad width (or width of component).
      Examples: (numbers in brackets = log diameter)
      A) 2mm x 8mm pad = 16mm^2
      --> (4.5mm x 4.5mm) x 0.7854 = 15.9mm^2
      B) 2mm x 15mm pad = 30mm^2
      --> (6mm x 6mm) x 0.7854 = 28.3mm^2
      C) 3mm x 6mm pad = 18mm^2
      --> (5mm x 5mm) x 0.7854 = 19.6mm^2
      D) 3mm x 15mm pad = 45mm^2
      --> (7.5mm x 7.5mm) x 0.7854 = 44.2mm^2

      Update: I cleaned up the laptop pretty thoroughly last night, replacing the liquid metal on my cpu with PTM7950 and use ptm7950 on gpu. Upsiren UX Pro went on my VRMs and VRAM components, I rolled logs about 4-5mm thick. Air duster on fans and all that fun stuff.
      I fired up a quick game (didn't have much time to do benchmarks for a burn in on ptm7950 before bed), played for about 30mins. Usually during this time before replacement I'd get thermal throttling within 10mins and then practically every 1 min intervals. No thermal throttling in that 30mins after replacement. Temps did seem to get slightly lower as time went on, and I expect they'll only get better. Memory Junction temps went from 102-104c max down to 96c max, which I can live with. Gpu temps with 100% usage in the game was hitting a max of around 79c, Hotspot hovered around 85c with a max at 89 only once at the beginning. CPU just runs hot on this thing, with it sitting at 99c at the beginning then went down towards 85-88c towards the end of that session. So far, I'm satisfied with these results, as again I expect as the ptm7950 gets settled my temps will only get better.
      Awesome stuff between the ptm7950 and UX Pro. Also, I'm a little avert to liquid metal now after seeing what it did the the plate of my heatsink after only 5 months, I can't see that stuff being great for your heatsink long term.

    so my rtx 3060 laptop has vram clock of 6000mhz and earlier with a overclock of 300mhz it used to stay on those clocks , but after a thermal repaste i am seeing even in stock the clocks after sometimes is closer to 5500mhz is it because of throttling , my wattage is also usually now lower, but my core temps are less than 75C on gpu or even close to 70c. so is my vram overheating (i have stock pads on vram ) 5800h, rtx 3060(90w) lenovo ideapad.

      It's possible it could be throttling for some reason, but hard to know for sure without testing a few things out. I'd recommend installing HWINFO64 and running "sensors Only" and then recording a log (bottom right). Then make sure your laptop profile is set to a performance mode and playing a game or even running a stress test with Furmark to see what the wattage is.
      Then you can go back a look at the log, voltages, temperatures, and have more data to go off of to try figuring out what the main issue is.
      If the VRAM or VRM's are not getting adequate cooling then it could definitely effect performance. If that were the case, then either new pads or Thermal Putty would likely help. I'd personally opt for putty over pads, but that's my personal preference.

      @@snarksdomain hw info or any sensor based app does not show temps for gpu memory . i have been doing extensive testing to look for problems but it seems like all is good since benchmark scores are still similar and it can boost core clock to the overclock i used to do. may be in new gpus it does not need to stays at full throttle when cpu is bottlenecking or when it does not need to use lots of powers to get work done. in heaven bench the memory was staying constantly at 6300 6400 6500(with overclock applied ) so may be its not a problem, core temps are like 70.

      This is true for 30 series laptops. HWINFO64 can show/log other stuff though like "Reliability Voltage" if it was running unstable. You should also be able to Conditional Format the voltage numbers for each voltage value and see if voltage changes after a while of the laptop warming up. Then it's easier to scroll through the data and see if there is a noticeable trend for any of the values. It's a bunch or work to review the data, but may shed light on issues you're experiencing.
      Your core temperature seems good at least.

    The thermal paste is blocking the air flow. You should just remove the thermal paste and thermal pads for optimal performance.

      @rul1175 No. That isn't how the cooler works. Pads or Putty are required to move the heat fr9m the VRAM, Mosfets and Coils to the Heat pipes and oflver to the fin stack where the blower style fans push air through to move heat out of the laptop.
      Not having an adequate Thermal Intwrface Matwrial for this job means that the laptop would get quite warm, and the components quite hot. That can cause damage at worst, or Thermal Throttling at the least.

      For Europe, I'd either opt for CX-H1300 (13.5w/mk version) or maybe Laird T-Putty 607 (Digikey).
      If you go with the CX-H1300, pay extra attention to the pictures in the listing and make sure the box near 13.5w/mk is checked off with black permanent marker. The 8w/mk version is not very high performing.

    What do u think would cause my laird 7100 install to go bad in 6 weeks. Temps were great for about a month now we are back to 90+ on coores and hotspots. Used arctic tp3 for vram and laird tpm 7000 version. U think it might of pumped out ?

      That does seem odd. It shouldn't have pumped out, other than the initial melt and flow that PCM's do. It melts at a higher temp than most other PCM's and need a good burn-in for it to melt. Might be worthwhile opening it up to take a look, see if it lost contact somehow. Do you have extra to reapply? I presume you got a big sheet of the Laird from Digikey or Mouser?

      It might be a little tight if you are doing VRAM and VRM's. I would opt to have at least 30 grams to work with, ideally. It all depends on OEM pad thicknesses (gap heights).
      Edit: Some folks on the alegion discord have managed to use 20 grams for their laptops. It would depend on how many VRAM chips you have as well.

      Don't use paste on VRAM and VRM. Use Thermal Putty. You can check out the charts located at the Google Drive link below (Test Chart Repository>VRAM TIM>ETCHASH). Most people go with Upsiren UTP-8 these days but there are other good options as well. You will want to buy 20g.
      As for the CPU and GPU core, I would have recommended you go with something like Honeywell PTM7950 sheet instead of LM and Kryonaut.

      99% Isopropyl Alcohol, makeup remover wipes or q-tips/cotton swab, or paper towel even. Can also use toothbrish if need be.
      use gentle pressure, not too much. Make sure isopropyl is dried off before applying new paste or Phase Change

      @@4i04 Paste is meant to go between the CPU and the Cooler. WHat device dso you have that it was use tape instead of screws? Are you adding paste to something that didn't previously have a cooler attached?
      Make sure the paste you use does not conduct electricity, some do.

      @kookymonkey I prefer logs myself. I like having one larger piece of putty that has full contact with the cooler and PCB, as opposed to individual balls. I find rolling logs is quite quick and easy to do.
      You can always experiment either way and reuse the same outty if you change you mind.
      Just be sure to wear gloves. Some folks are sensitive to silicone oil and can get rashes. On the other hand, you don't want your skin oils to effect adhesion of the outty to the cooler/component.

      The excess overlap? Having extra is no benefit as far as I can tell.
      I now recommend everyone cut the piece of PCM to be ~3mm short on all 4 sides (1/8" on all 4 sides). Since the PCM starts off at either 0.20mm or 0.25mm, At least 80% of it will squish out ounce it melts and the Silicon will have full coverage.

      They are designed to melt around 45 Celsius, then with the mounting pressure of the cooler it then squishes out. They can get down to around 0.038mm layer between the die and the cooler.

      @karima.4332 I would get UTP-8 over UX Pro. It's similar/higher performance as the UX Pro, softer and cheaper.
      Some other good options are Honeywell HT10000 (current top putty) and Fehonda LTP81.
      That being said, if you find blue putty in your laptop it is likely Laird T-T-Putty 607. If it's still soft enough to reshape you can reuse it. Putty is good for reuse as long as it's still soft, and not the crappy liquidy white stuff.
      For laptops with gaps smaller than 0.5mm I recommend Halnziye HY236.

      Oh man, your question is perfectly timed. I just ran some tests yesterday. I still need to review the data, but temps seemed quite good still. No throttling. I'll take a look at the results when I get a chance, but I believe the core was maybe 1-2 degrees warmer than before. I did clean the fans.
      My plan is to run a few more tests to get some good baseline data, then I plan to open it up and take a look at the UX Pro Putty to see how it has faired.
      I plan to salvage the UX Pro and will apply UTP-8 (is a bit sifter than UX Pro, so ideal for laptops). Haven't settled one which Phase Change I'll use. Likely either PTM7950 or PCM-1. Part of me thinks it would make sense to do longevity testing on PCM-1 on this laptop.
      I use this device a lot and it comes with me on the road and also whenever I fly somewhere.

      20g is likely not enough. For laptops, I recommend buying 50g of your chosen putty. Their densities are mostly all around 3.2 to 3.5 g/cc.

Long story short, am shunt modding my 4090 laptop, someone else already did it and they used Upsiren U6 pro but I couldn't find that on Amazon (well trustworthy U6 pro) that would ship within a reasonable time and saw UX Pro Ultra was better thermal conductivity and got that instead.
      And on the Upsiren website, the manual says to spread a 1mm thick layer for the UX Pro, so I was going to do that. Does that sound okay instead of rolling the logs?

      @nerijus01 I'm not sure on timing yet. Currently have PCM-1 on the test bench. I did a test first with fresh MX-4 as a baseline and was planning on using Prime95 Small FFT, but was seeing power fluctuations and it made it hard to get a trustable 10 minute average (after an hour of running Prime95)
      Now I'm testing with mining XMR, which is using higher watts and is more consistent power draw.
      I've also locked the CPU at 4300MHz at 1.225 volts and plan to use those as the parameters. I'll need to redo the MX-4 test, but so far PCM-1 looks like it has decent performance, even after only an hour of running.
      I had been testing with an AMD Wraith Prism cooler, but have now switched to using a Noctua NH-U12S. This will allow me to test liquid metal and be able to compare the results (nickel plated)
      I can confirm that PCM-1 is definitely a phase change material.
      Moddiy purchases have been smooth. I've also bought a bunch of connectors for crimping my own power cables, so have been buying from them for a while.

      I have access to the advanced controls and was able to undervolt the CPU as well as force RAM to run at spec instead of running lower frequency.
      Still just 130w TGP. I wish I could pump 150-165 watts through the 3080. Would likely need a beefier power adapter though.

    Hi. Maybe someday you can test laird products. That´s what i use, so i´m curious. But gives me good results.
    I use laird tpcm 7400 phase change material for bare dies. (7400 is 0.4mm thick, 7250 is 0.250 and 7100 is 0.1mm).
    I use tputty 502 (bulk, not the sheets, that have fiberglass) for vram and vrms. You also have tputty 508, 607 and the new 910. I never tested those.
    I like tputty 502 because doesn´t have silicone bleed and when it´s reusable. I just grab it, make some small balls, compress it to 1 or 2 mm more that the gap to fill and it´s done. I´ve not seen any thermal degradation on my 3080 after 1 year of continuous use, but i´ve applied again(the same putty that was used) when i replaced carbonaut for the tpcm 7400(for testing purposes). The same temperatures were observed.

      What sort of bare die did you test the 7400 on? I'm considering testing the PTM7950 material in lieu of LM on a delidded 10700K in an A51mR2 laptop and may throw the 7400 in with the rest of the testing.
      I'm curious what the slightly more consistent (possibly more stable) thickness of one of the phase change sheets might make in mitigating the common difficulties one will see in getting the highly liquid LM contact just right between the CPU die and underside of the IHS. It would also be nice if it's effective as the need to apply LM to both the CPU die and IHS would also make things easier overall.

      @@th3_g0dz_of_Vict0ry i used on an rtx 3080 desktop and gives me 10 to 11°C difference between the die and hot spot. That difference rises to 12 to 13°C with carbonaut, but die temp only rises 2 °C. With hydronaut the hotspot difference is 11°C after application, 15°C after 6 months of light usage and rises to unusable levels after 1 year(105°C total hotspot temp).
      I've also used on my legion 5 pro. That laptop does not make good contact on the gpu. I have to use thick phase change material.
      I have no experience with lm. I only touched it on the ps5 because it's ready for lm.
      If you use a thick phase change material like the 7400, it will cover all the spots that may not be making good contact. It will flow rapidly and compress to the right thickness after 2 or 3 minutes of reaching something like 70°C. Maybe you will get better temps if you dont use the ihs, but you risk damaging the die that way. If you use the ihs, maybe dont glue it, because if you do and the glue dries, if can prevent the phase change to compress to the optimal height. If you put the glue and can heat the processor before the glue dries, it may not have that issue.

    Hey man I hope you read this, I have bought 7950 and utp 8 recently and I want to make sure I have enough for my laptop which has an RTX 2060 (6GB) before going any further. I bought 40x40mm pad and 30g of thermal putty. Is this enough? I will try to apply putty separately to save some if I mess up.

      @AmanSingh-xk1me 30g of UTP-8? You must have order a 20g and 10g container I'm guessing?
      20g will likely be enough.
      Before you go to apply the PTM7950 I recommend applying the outty and then doing a test fit woth your heatsink and start the screws in partially. The press down on the heatsinknwoth younhanda and hold for maybe 20 seconds. Then tighten the screws until they come to their natural stopping point (don't use excessive force). The. Remove screws and cooler and inspect how the outty has spread, and remove excess.
      Once you are happy with the amount of putty then you can go ahead and apply the PTM7950. I recommend cutting it smaller than the die size by ~3mm (1/8") on all 4 sides. It will make application easier, and 2nd peel easier too. Peel one side, place on die (don't worry if you don't get it perfectly centered). Run finger over it (with top plastic film still in place), and then use tape/stick at a corner and slowly peel towards the opposite corner. Stop if it starts to tear.
      On finally reassembly you will want to reshape or at least pinch the putty a bit to make it "stand up" a little. You want the putty to get it'a final compression during assembly. Don't flatten it like a pad. I prefer rolling it into logs myself.

      *Edit: I used too much putty in this video. I made it work, but had to apply more pressure than ideal to get it to compress properly (partly because UX pro is a bit stiff for laptop applications).

How do I clean it? And thanks for writing the process. I searched for a while and reddit users gave just the opposite advice to cut the pad bigger than die for easier application but then I wanted an expert opinion. I thought it's a phase change so it would spill out on those nearby pins😅.

      Edit: I see the chart you're talking about now. Definitely not mine. In the furmark snapshot you can see the language in the lower left search bar isn't English as well.
      Regarding the chart, the colours aren't scaling correctly in my opinion. I always scale my colors between coolest and either hottest or a fixed temperature (for VRAM 110. For Core 85).
      Gong forward, I'll also be using a watermark in my charts, thanks to the folks over on the Legion Discord server for pointing that out.

    Hello. I consulted one laptop service center guy, he said that after applying laird instead of stock thermal pads, in order to not risk to crack the chips(because of increased pressure), he uses some custom silicone washers. Can you comment on this? Thanks.

      I've heard a few people mention the possibility of increased pressure on the core before. I haven't used any silicone washers myself, but it likely wouldn't hurt if you were concerned.
      Lenovo uses thermal putty in their laptops. Perhaps they've designed the mounting pressure with this in mind.
      For my laptop, it didn't seem like there was a lot of spring action by tightening the screws. In my mind, a GPU with a stiff springy "X" mounting bracket, it would have potentially higher risk of such.
      Either way, if using those silicone washers doesn't affect core contact, then it can't hurt.
      The PS5 similarly uses thermal putty. I think a lot of people don't like the idea of a putty simply because it is different than what we are used to. Putty lends itself well to automated application, whereas pads need someone to put them in place. In general, I think we'll start seeing higher quality pads and putties used going forward. With GDDR7 coming soon the power density will likely be higher and so we will need high performance thermal solutions to deal with the added heat. We'll start seeing more GPU's with vapors chambers and laptops as well.

The washers are tricky, because I don't know which ones to use, will probably have to order them from the same service center, where I order ptm (which they claim is the original one). Also they sell the paste to polish the surfaces. Do you ever polish it? I read it only improves temps by 1C, and probably risky to polish the cores.

      @goldeneagle8259 I haven't done polishing of cores or CPU's at all. If I were to do anything, it would likely be lapping of a CPU using one of those Thermal Grizzly lapping tools. I don't think I'd go that far with a GPU Die. First and foremost, it would be very difficult to do it in a controlled way when the core is still connected to the PCB.
      Perhaps if I were trying to set world records, I would consider doing more of that type of modification, but not for a daily driven CPU/GPU.

      @@snarksdomain just repasted it's very soft putty and very sticky I applied a thick layer with a thermal paste spreader over the vram at a thickness of about 2.5mm to squish down so far so good not gone over 86 degree on the memory yet baring in mind I have it overclocked with power limit max with the uxpro it hit 90

      I agree there is excess putty of the VRM area. I vaguely remember trimming some of it after installing the cooler.
      Could definitely use led there. Perhaps if I do this again in the future I will roll smaller logs for the VRM.

      @ernawilis-te1gt It takes a bit to heat up and melt and make better contact.
      I run stress tests to get the CPU temp up abive 60C (and sometimes more even). As long as your temperature isn't going over 90 you won't be hurting anything. After it gets it first melt, little air bubbles will work their way out as the now fluid Phase Change Material very slowly flows out like a normal paste would. This allows it to gradually make the layer of material thinner. A higher mounting pressure would achieve good results faster, but I wouldn't recommend playing around with mounting pressure unless you are co fident in doing so and understand any potential risks.
      From my experience the thermal.al performance gets better quite a bit in the first couple hours of stress testing/full load, and even further slight inproveme t over the next few weeks of normal use.

    I have a 3060 TI HP OEM, that's very hot (Hot spot: +100ºC in overload), and seems like the Upsiren Putty and PTM 7950 is the best I can do for now. Would you recommend something more?

      That is quite hot for a card with GDDR6. I wonder if one of the thermal pads is missing or out of position. What is the GPU core temp like?
      PTM and either U6 Pro or UX Pro putty should be just fine for your card. You can also look at adding putty to the backplate in areas behind the VRAM, VRM, and even the core. I assume HP has some pads on the backplate

    My gpu and cpu both hitting 90°. I sold my laptop to my little brother two years ago and repasted it right before i sold it to him but temps were still high. Just repasted to see the paste was dried up so I put ptm7950 on there and the cpu still hitting 90° and GPU hit 92°. Anyone have any ideas because im out of them.

    PTM is so god damn hard to work with.I have naturally shakey hands and struggle to cut things perfectly, even my botched application is still better than gelid gc extreme though.
    Definetly not something you want to work with as a novice or as someone with shaky hands.

      That's a good point, although some of the newer sheets of different Phase Change Materials have easy ti peel plastic films (large overhang of both sides that is easy to grab).
      Luckily, even with a torn or folded sheet of Phase Change it will often still get full coverage when it melts.
      I'll be doing a experiment where I cut narrow strips of it and place them to make an "X" pattern, leaving m9re of the CPU bare. That way we can see how far it will spread out, and if we can use less for each application.

      That's because after the test stops running there is no longer any load on the CPU. So I had to reference max temps during the test to be able to compare them.

      UX Pro is not the putty I'd recommend for a laptop as it is stiffer than others. Laptops have less ability to compress putty so it's better to use softer putties.
      Better options include:
      Honeywell HT10000
      Laird T-Putty 910
      Upsiren UTP-8
      Fehonda LTP81
      Fehonda LTP65
      Laird T-Putty 607
      Halnziye HY236 or HY25

      Yes. Nearly all other putties I have tested are better than K5 Pro Viscous Thermal Paste. I would not recommend K5 Pro to anyone.
      That being said, I will still include K5 Pro when I retest all the putties/pads/shims on my new Testbench 2.0 setup.
      *I would also note that while Upsiren has put "Computer-systems.gr" on the box for UX Pro, it doesn't seem like they are connected at all. There is even a Reddit post, apparently from computers-systems.gr, saying they aren't associated with Upsiren at all. I don't quite know what's going on with that. I care more about the performance or the product.

    Hi, i have the upsiren pcm-1 and u6 pro. In my lenovo y530, they work great, 25C improvement 95C to 70C for the gpu and cpu.
    I also applied to the lenovo LOQ with a 4060. It has vram heat problem due to poor stock thermal pad contact. With the u6 pro, temps goes from 108C to 75-80C avg.
    Unfortunately the gpu temp goes higher than stock. Could it be the better vram heat absorption affecting the gpu temp? Before it only reach 70C or so but now it can hit 87C throttling it at same fan speed. Reapplied 2x times. Or is it not enough mounting pressure, i did applied the putty a bit thick.
    I also notice lenovo did use similar pcm like material for the cpu/gpu. it hardens like the upsiren pcm, a surprise for a budget gaming laptop lineup.

      It could be too much putty if your CPU temp is that high on the second laptop.
      Lenovo uses PTM7958 on laptops which is said to achieve temperatures that are a few degrees cooler than PTM7950.
      It could also be that it just needs a burn in. I'd maybe expect a couple degrees warmer with the improved cooling of VRAM, and maybe a couple degrees changing from the PTM7858, but not in the 80's.

    How is Vrams VRMS DOING WITH UX pro putty. I recently repasted my MSI Vector GP76 I7 12th gen, 3080 ti, 64GB RAM.
    I used NT-H2 thermal paste and K5 Pro putty and it appears my temps have been running a little hotter than usual. So i just ordered some gelid GC extreme paste as its thicker and supposedly does better with laptops but my concern is the K5 pro putty over the VRAMs not holding up and is there a way i can check the temps of the VRAMs ?

      You will probably want to replace that K5 Pro with either a good thermal pad or a good putty. K5 Pro is one of the worst performing putties I've tested and also messier than most other putties.

    Hi bro i really need your help pls return to me. i am using ptm7950 and game temps are ok but idle temps are high compared to regular thermal pastes (40 stock 50-60 ptm7950) can you recommend a thermal paste for idle. i dont game anymore

      @gibonzproject9710 50-60 is a safe temp. Is that with auto fan speed? Are the watts used the same? I'd also check to see the core delta and if they are still good.
      Also, any recent OS updates/upgrade? Like from Windows 10 to Windows 11?

      @@snarksdomain bro i can't control the fan to set to 0 rpm. also on idle my cpu is 55-60 degree. this causes fans to always be at around 2900 rpm. before ptm 7950 on my stock paste i didn't have any idle temp problems as my temps didn't go above 50. also room temp is not high right now.

      @gibonzproject9710 does your laptop have pads or putty. If you are using pads then there's a good chance you're not getting enough core contact pressure to make the PTM7950 very thin. Once it becomes very thin the performance should be on par, if not better, than most pastes.
      It's why I recommend using Thermal Putty in conjunction with Phase Change Materials since putty can compress more than pads allow.
      If you want to stick with pads, then likely go for one of the thicker pastes on the market.

    I guess at this point i should just forget about the pad vs pad with paste comparison i had requested 9 months ago which you had said you would test it..

      I promise you I will do that test, and am sorry it hasn't happened yet. I will be repadding a friends 3070ti in the next couple days and will do the paste test first, before giving it a putty and PTM job. You've been waiting a long time so I can understand your disappointment.

    Hello i recently bought UPSIREN Thermal Putty UTP-8 and I have ordered Honeywell PTM7950 I'm planing on using it om my amd 7900xtx do you know if the UTP-8 will work well? And do you know if its a big difference between UTP-8 and the UX pro?

      UTP-8 is just slightly better than UX Pro. There are several folks who have used UTP-8 on their 7900 XTX's to good effect. If you'd like to see their results feel free to join the Discord and you should be able to find the posts.
