Hi Julie, a tip for hanging clothes. Get your clothes inside out so all that sun don't burn the colours of your clothes. And some heavy tops hang them by the armpit so the weight don"t mishape the piece. From a portuguese that loves to hang clothes outside as millions other portuguese because it's our tradition..plus the smell of clothes dried by the sunshine is another level!! Thank you for sharing and congratulations on your italian house..😊
New subscriber. The TH-cam algorithm brought me to you. You seem fun! ♡ Can't wait to follow your renovation project. My grandmother always hung the laundry outside in the summer. I loved crawling into bed with crisp, clean sheets.♡ Always check for bees or other flying insects before bringing the laundry inside. Also, she used to brighten linens with lemon water, and the sun would bleach out stains. Sending you much love from Washington state, USA ♡♡♡
Brava! I saw how you put the clothes on the clothespins. Much better. As you get do more laundry, you will find out you can actually link the clothes together to save clothespins. How you do is by hanging like items together- yes, from the bottom up. Pants you can do from the legs, too. Julie, I’m from Panama, Central America, so growing up we all had to hang our clothes on a clothesline- everything, even underwear. Thank you for being so wonderful and taking our suggestions so positively. I love all the progress you’re doing. Lots of blessings and see you on the next video. Hugs!

Hi Julie, I'm now 60 and was taught how to hang clothes etc by my late mother. If you open the band of trousers and peg only the back of them, the wind/breeze blows down the legs from the top and they dry quicker. Pillowcases should be hung the same, from the opening and only the folded part pegged so that the breeze can blow into the pillowcase. T-shirts, cardigans and tops etc should all be laid on the line from the bottom by about 2 inches, (use 3 pegs for cardigans etc) never stretch them across the line, you should gather them slightly so that they don't get stretched. Hope this helps Julie, just the old way of doing things :0) xx P.S. Your videos are brilliant x

I hung up all the laundry for our family of eight as a girl and never minded hanging up laundry, drying it, dipping it in starch, hanging it up again to dry, taking the clothes down and stacking them to be ironed, sprinkling the clothes as we didn’t have spray irons back then AND I would sprinkle the clothes with water, roll them tightly so they wouldn’t dry out before getting to iron them, I’m glad you have delight with these tasks, I delighted in hanging up clothes in my daughter in loves back yard about 17yrs ago in the mountain side on the island of Oahu, brought back delightful memories!😊🥰🎉🙌🏻😃🤩❤️🙏🏻

Wooden clothespins make me think of my grandmother. She’s in the backyard with her sun bonnet on hanging clothing and sheets on the clotheslines. Have you ever used sheets fresh off the clothesline. They smell amazing. Of course this memory is from the sixties. I haven’t seen a clothesline in many years. What a stunning neighborhood you have. The church bells are wonderful. I used to live a block away from a historic Catholic Church. How I loved hearing the bells on Sunday mornings.
Rather than leaving the clothespins out all the time they make clothes pin bags. It has metal hanger and fabric bag with wide opening in top. You could keep that in your laundry basket when not in use. I can’t wait to see how the tub looks when done. Excited.
Yes! My mum used a hanger bag when I was young. It hooked over the line and I pulled it beside me as I hung up clothes. I agree you learn how to hang different materials. Cotton blouses I always hung from the seam closest to the collar cause it didn’t put funny points in the shoulders. Underwear, I didn’t like them “advertised “ on the line, so I used one clothes pin, and since most were nylon they dried fine that way. Always be sure to check your hanger bag because a bat flew out at Mum one evening when she was bring the clothes in late. 🤣

Whenever I place anything on a clothesline I always use a clothespin on all items. The reason is when the item wet it is heavy enough and stays in place. Once dry a breeze can take it away. Thank you so much for sharing looking forward to the next visit.

Yeah, I am with you. Dryers were unheard of out on the farm in the 50's and 60's in southern Illinois. My mother had her OCD ways when it came to hanging laundry.
@@janethamil9337 Lol, and my mother ruined all my shirts with the wooden clamps. Once I had my own place I just hung everything halfway over the line and didn't fasten anything. Sped up the process and no imprints ;).
I was taught that pillowcases should be loosely hung by the open end, single side, this way the breeze can fill them and they dry quicker with less creases. Similarly with sheets, hang by one end, then make a big loop by pegging the other end loosely ie slightly in from the corners, then the breeze can fill it like a sail - it looks beautiful, makes a wonderful flapping sound and needs minimal ironing. Wonderful for the senses and the smell of outdoor dried laundry is divine.
I am dazzled that you bought a house in Italy during a pandemic, and even more dazzled that you got workers to come out and do the work, especially since you don't speak Italian. You are truly blessed with strength and fortitude. Keep up the good work.

For those of you reading this please try to watch Julia’s magnificent series called ‘An American Aristocrats Guide to Great Estates’ it is sensational. Unfortunately, only one episode is available on TH-cam I loved it so much I took out an Amazon Prime streaming subscription and with that comes Paramount (I think a small monthly charge extra) there, you will find the entire series and see Julia at her very best most natural self visiting the great estates in Britain. Does it give an extra fire exit if you can't reach the front door? Treating it like a long window with only light weight furniture in front of it could work. Something light enough to be pushed aside. A small plant pot with a tall plant maybe.
I was thinking that if she wants to put it on Airbnb the second door would need to remain intact and usable. All domiciles most have at least two exits. At least the places that I have staged for customers.
I've just stumbled upon your site and well, it was meant to be, OMG! I studied at SACI in Firenze in Art School, 1985. Italy has since been my happy place, and I've wanted to live there ever since. You're inspiring and teaching me! As long as I can figure out how to bring my dogs, I'm in! Thanks so much. I just know from your tone, you are living your dream! Big yay!
I was at my daughter new country home here in Canada and noticed your cook books on her kitchen island! She has UK and Canadian citizenship so lives in London and here. She told me she was in your yoga classes! She sang your praises, said you were lovely and a great teacher. It was fun because I have been following you here and enjoying your channel! Bottom line I want your books so hopefully I can find them! Hugs from Canada ( Collingwood)
I just found your channel about a week ago. Love it and have shared it. ....I always had to wipe the clothesline itself clean before hanging or clothes pinning the items on the line so as not to chance adding dirt smear to the items! Oh, my mother would have fainted if I had draped an item over the line! I am enjoying the adventures of your life. It adds happy to my day! Thank you muchly!
Hello! The house looks really nice. It gives good vibes! In Greece (Mediterranean country next door), i clean the clothesline from dust before every use, I don't leave the clothes in sunshine for many hours they look too dry and I hang almost all of them inside out. The summer sun makes the colours of the fabrics to fade. I prefer to hang the t shirts from the armpits. They don't lose their structure. I like your channel. I look forward for the restoration.
Hope you aren’t in a hurry. Italians have 2 speeds: Slow & Stop. Nevertheless- Your house will be fabulous. You have such great taste ! Can’t wait to see it. Bath tub is PERFECT
Enjoying your renovations and watching you hang laundry to dry is so fun. Glad you are willing to learn things. Yes, I take in my clothes pins every time. Having a cute little bag to put them in and hang on the line too is fun.
Hello I live in Italy and want to move to the UK or Australia...Italy Is very nice at first and yes it Is a living museum and has very beautiful ,majestic and historical things about It but living here all year round for many years Its not easy...hospitals and getting simple things done in an office is a nightmare and lots of corruption,no jobs and poverty.
@@Aurora-qn2dx Thank you Anna for the information. Sounds like one month vacation is plenty to get Italy out of my system. I follow many who live in Italy and just last week an American family shared that the attorney they used to purchase their vacation home stole it from right underneath them. So it is true!
I just adore you! I loved the shop you went to. All of the beautiful handmade tiles are extraordinary. I can remember as a child when my mom would hang the bed sheets on the clothes line to dry..nothing smells better! I loved the two lights you found as well. I'm having a wonderful time with you on this journey. Thank you so much for sharing.
We also turn clothes inside out to dry. If it falls to the ground (dont tell mama! Lol), or catches any small speck of anything flying through the air; its just hitting the wrong side of clothing and you don’t have to rewash. Shake well when taking down. I spent my childhood hanging laundry outside. Hello again from The Noble family in South Carolina.
My tip for drying laundry under the sun is to turn clothing inside out to prevent colours fade. Good luck with the new project! It’s obvious how you invest a lot of your good energy in it so no doubt the result will be amazing!
Ciao Julie! I am purchasing my own "Casa piccola" in Sassello, Savona. I am closing on the property Sept 30th. I am so excited to return to Italy and establish a part-time home there. I love seeing the vintage bath/supplier and the flea market. Thank you for the videos! I will keep watching for great places to find items for the house/clothing/food! Grazie mille!
hahahahaha, this video made me laugh so much. For me as a European it's so funny to see that someone was that excited about hanging a laundry. But then I remembered how confused I felt when two years ago I went to USA for the first time and I didn't know how to use laundry dryer. :-) :-) :-)
Great job on this video your down to earth personality does it. Now my only tips for hanging laundry are: 1)make sure the heaviest part of the garment is hanging down eg. pants pin on the legs as they will blow back and forth and dry faster. 2) If you have 2 or more items you can attach them on the same pin and then add a pin to the end now next items and so forth. This way you don't use as many pins saving one per 2 items. So looking forward to watching this renovation unfold. Keep safe
So adorable...!! You're lucky to have the dry Italian air with the wash load...lol... I always try to air dry things (ever hopeful...) but here in North Carolina, they just come in smelling mildewy because of our high humidity... so we do other things to shrink our household carbon footprint. Brava, Julie...!! This is an awesome project and will be so loved by so many in the years to come!
Late , to the video , absolutely stunning countryside. Place is gong to be booked constantly, I can see the bones and the huge potential. Be blessed,JS❤️
Hey Julie! My mom always gave each piece of wet laundry a good shake out before she hung it on the line. Helps to shake the wrinkles out. And smooth each item with your hands after hanging. Pulling seams in opposite directions helps prevent wrinkles too. Get a clothespin bag. It’s a cloth or vinyl bag you can hang on the clothesline. Keep it close for easy access while hanging stuff. Might sell them at the Vermont Country store website. They sell lots of old fashioned stuff. Very handy to have. Just checked on Amazon. They have canvas ones for $6.99.
Ok, I am extremely jealous. You are going to have so much fun doing reno on your Tuscany home. I fell in love with Tuscany 20 years ago and would love to return someday soon, Also love your red shoes.
I am so happy for you!!! Enjoyed the walk out on to the square, and the outside lights are good choices! Getting the bathroom out of the way first seems wise. Keep showing the views, the cooking, the food, the history, the culture. If there's a Fivizzano Chamber of Commerce, they're going to love your videos for promoting tourism into the area ... lol. The visit to the stone and tile market, excellent, a total hoot! The classic tub can be charming if refurbished. It is great that you're going to expose the stone wall, may that work out wonderfully. I can still see value in having that second entrance, and as others have mentioned, a Dutch door of some type could be superb. Cheers!
Oh my gosh , you are adorable , sweet and enthusiastic . Love your channel and looking forward to the journey. I love the market that you filmed , so many beautiful objects . Nothing like history , wondering about the lives of the people who actually had these pieces in their homes .

I wouldnt took the side door out. Maybe transforming it in a french door. Its easier to take big furniture up and down. Also in the laundry maybe if the door would turn outside you d have better acess to the storage shelves. Have you considered putting the bathtub by the window and moving the sink and shower where the bathtub is ?
I imagined the same, looking at the beautiful sky while soaking in the bath...plus it would be directly next to shower room. I also love the back door, nice to have a 2nd entrance, also cause it reminds me of my Italian family pictures, la piccola porta.
What a flip out, The choices, Whoa.... How tremendoudly exciting. I agree. Yes. Find a spot to jump up and down, Scream. But cool when you shop, or price can skyrocket. Go for it, How deliriously happy this process. Beyond Beyond exciting!!!?

@@janethamil9337 Lol, and my mother ruined all my shirts with the wooden clamps. Once I had my own place I just hung everything halfway over the line and didn't fasten anything. Sped up the process and no imprints ;).
This is such a fun adventure! Thanks for sharing your plans and experiences. This whole life was on my bucket list.
All is lonely, love the tub and love that you are keeping the outside of it as is.
I love that you're open to clear coat on the natural art of rust on that bathtub. Now I'm really excited to see your remodel.
What I love about you is that you are SO down to earth! So sweet
She has tons of help!
Oh my goodness Lady H you are such a diamond.... good for you getting yourself a wee retreat, heaven knows you and Luke have really done your utmost best to survive lockdown and sharing so much with your community. Can not wait to see the end results of this cute house nestled around this delightful town. Love and light Xx
Julie, you are just adorable. I love your enthusiasm for life - it's so inspiring. Thank you. 🌹🛁🧺👖👕
Oh thank you!
You look great and happy. Italy agrees with you. I love the bathtub.
You are a generous heart to let us glimpse into your joyful journey!
Thank you so much!
Keep the door, Julie. It was there for a reason.
Maneuverability.
Yes a Dutch Door would be great
Yes. Do keep the door. At least for now. You can change it up later, but you might not want to.
--American living in Rome.
Big yay!
Totalling living vicariously through you.👍
I was at my daughter new country home here in Canada and noticed your cook books on her kitchen island!
The plans look great! The store with all of the antiques was amazing!!
I just loove 💕 the terracotta pots and jars! What a joy to be in that place!
Living for the simplicity of the lifestyle over there. I am so absolutely thrilled for you with this. Please continue including us in this journey🥰🥰
Oh my GOSH!! YES!! I LOVE ❤️ the bath. Exactly what I’m looking for myself
Thanks for the tips!
Adore the outside lantern its perfect! Another great vlog you have lovely taste. 🦋
Hope you aren’t in a hurry. Italians have 2 speeds: Slow & Stop.
Nevertheless- Your house will be fabulous. You have such great taste ! Can’t wait to see it. Bath tub is PERFECT
Hello how are you doing 👋😀☺️☺️👋😀
Enjoying your renovations and watching you hang laundry to dry is so fun. Glad you are willing to learn things. Yes, I take in my clothes pins every time. Having a cute little bag to put them in and hang on the line too is fun.
Hello how are you doing 👋👋👋👋☺️
Yay!!!! I’m so excited and grateful about your Italy journey. We just left Italy after 3 and a half years there and my heart has been in mourning.
Why did you leave Italy? What was your experience like? Was it everything you imagined it would be like?
@@RosaLopez-zw2ff Italy is the most beautiful, majestic place in the world. Italy exceeds my expectations.
Can't wait to see the bathroom complete!
Brilliant job hanging out the washing 🙌🏾 I love it too, almost therapeutic!
Thank you for the great tip! I'll definitely try that out next time
My tip for drying laundry under the sun is to turn clothing inside out to prevent colours fade. Good luck with the new project! It’s obvious how you invest a lot of your good energy in it so no doubt the result will be amazing!
That's a great tip, thank you Tatjana!
I love your lighting choices, the tub, and sink!
“I’m think getting the hang of this” no pun intended, right? 😂
dry humor
i am IN LOVE with this house and the renovation video!! Such a wonderful escape!!!
I love that you tell us what the Italian words are for the things around your house, you're slowly teaching me Italian, don't stop. 😁🤗
I'm so glad!
hahahahaha, this video made me laugh so much. For me as a European it's so funny to see that someone was that excited about hanging a laundry. But then I remembered how confused I felt when two years ago I went to USA for the first time and I didn't know how to use laundry dryer. :-) :-) :-)
Julie, you are definitely living your best life!🌷
Hello how are you doing 👋😀☺️☺️👋
Actually, you need to use one clothes pin to connect two items. So you overlap the edge of two items and use one clothes pin for them both.
this! 👍
Will def.do that and film that the next time. Thank you!!!
Agree 👏
@@AmericanViscountess i use the pins both ways.
Love the area, so peaceful doing a good job Julie!
Thank you! 😊
Keep safe
Thanks for the tips!
❤️ the remodel and visits shopping the antique architectural markets
I have hung my laundry for years and don't even own a dryer. In my opinion, you have passed hanging laundry 101!
Thank you!!
Hello how are you doing 👋👋👋😀👋😀
I truly enjoy your videos! Thank you for sharing your everyday adventures, restaurants, stores and flea markets.
Omgoodness I want to move there. Amazing
Late , to the video , absolutely stunning countryside. Place is gong to be booked constantly, I can see the bones and the huge potential. Be blessed,JS❤️
I love love love this. I’m so excited for each video!
Wow Italys so breathtaking love the lights 🥰
So glad I discovered your channel. I was drooling over the antique sinks and all those gorgeous tiles! Thank you for sharing your reno.
Kitchen window looks like a gorgeous painting.
Love your lighting choices. And that bathtub is wonderful. Such a beautiful dream you're sharing with us. Thanks!
I love how you embrace the culture!
I am so happy for you!!! I have always wanted to go to Italy...I love the movie, with Blake Lively Reynolds, and the other beautiful ladies that played in "The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants", it has beautiful scenery of Italy.....Wishing you lots of Blessings for you and all helping with your renovations of your beautiful italian villa!!!😊❤
Cheers!
Yes, liking the idea of a Dutch door! Thank you!!!
Oh my gosh , you are adorable , sweet and enthusiastic . Love your channel and looking forward to the journey. I love the market that you filmed , so many beautiful objects . Nothing like history , wondering about the lives of the people who actually had these pieces in their homes .
Thank you so much!!
Love your excitement and fun and adventurous spirit - enjoy forever!
Oh, the tiles! Oh!!! The sinks! I want to go shopping here!
Right?!
Omy goodness when last have I seen someone show such joy hanging washing... Lol 🤣 hysterical... Lovely
😁
@@AmericanViscountess you are indeed a tonic...
I need THIS life. Thank you for sharing.
Wow what an absolute awesome purchase - I am envious - love it!!
I was taught as a child how to hang washing, but then again, my mother was fanatical, I also knew how to kindle a coal fire by 10 years... Scottish mother’s lol
So did I, in winter my job is to light the fires, Irish mother’s…..
Joel Aherne Wow. It sounds so Dickensonian.
@@joelaherne8566 Lighting is one thing; cleaning the grate and removing the ashes another! Then bringing in kindling and laying the fire for later in the day (wood fires though!)
@@joelaherne8566 And my Dad choosing to stand up to empty the ash or add more wood, blocking the TV screen just as our 2 hour movie was ending 🙈 📺
....Irish dads 🥰
I wouldnt took the side door out. Maybe transforming it in a french door. Its easier to take big furniture up and down. Also in the laundry maybe if the door would turn outside you d have better acess to the storage shelves.
Have you considered putting the bathtub by the window and moving the sink and shower where the bathtub is ?
Great idea!
I imagined the same, looking at the beautiful sky while soaking in the bath...plus it would be directly next to shower room. I also love the back door, nice to have a 2nd entrance, also cause it reminds me of my Italian family pictures, la piccola porta.
I was thinking a Dutch door.
What a flip out,
The choices,
Whoa....
How tremendoudly exciting.
I agree. Yes.
Find a spot to jump up and down,
Scream.
But cool when you shop, or price can skyrocket.
Go for it,
How deliriously happy this process.
Beyond Beyond exciting!!!?
