William John Crawford Rules!!
Im not born on USA, but read the amazing Story of this master sargeant really touch my hearth, their heroic acts and Humble makes me cry. This man is now one of my heroes. Many thanks to the Reagan library to put this material in youtube for everyone.
Reagan Library, thanks for making this video available to the general public. Not only does it demonstrate the many traits of Reagan that America loves, it also reflects on the courage of those who serve our country, such as the Air Force. Arguably though, the distinguished guest of this ceremony, was not Reagan, nor the wonderful members of the Air Force, but in fact it was William Crawford. What an upstanding example of American bravery and valor. I could go into a little detail about him, but I don't think I could do him justice. He is a true hero and I encourage everyone to read a little about him and his actions that he took that brave day, saving countless American lives and doing his part in helping to defeat the Nazis. But also, I encourage you to read about the life he lived after WWII. He is a true hero. He never went about bragging about his actions, he was very humble and quiet. I think that it is great for everyone to have heroes in their lives....these days it seems like fictional characters are all to often a young kids hero....but I think our children should be made aware of great men like Mr. Crawford. He is a true hero and without a doubt is one of my heroes. All though, you are no longer here with us, I thank you for you service to our country and it is a true honor to have learned about your life and sacrifices. Thank you, for everything

Makes me miss the days when America was proud of its leaders, heroes, military, president, and itself.
All hail Private Crawford! A true American hero and prime example of humility. I hope my son's grow to be great men like Mr. Crawford. As I prepare for my 18 year old to go to the Air Force in a few months I will ensure he reads about Mr. Crawford. May he rest in peace. Bless the USA and it's true heroes on all levels, not just those in the military. Anyone working for the greater good is a hero in my book.
I was there as a graduate. President Reagan was my commissioning officer and we were honored that the Commander in Chief was a part of our collective careers. God bless you sir for your life and we were able to return our lives to our great Nation.
80s was the last decade it was cool to be patriotic. Started to lose it in the 90s and really lost the spirit in the 2000s. The few the show it today are ridiculed and shamed.

I marched in Reagan’s inauguration as a USAFA cadet hosted by my brethren in USNA. Our studies under Carter was a nation in decline and a military unsupported.. The turnaround with Reagan was transformational. His speech exemplifies that he needed no teleprompter to deliver a good speech with optimism and good cheer. He was truly a leader that changed America and the world.
Such a wonderful time in our nations history.
Delighted to see Mr. Crawford receiving his much-deserved medal. We could do with more of his humility in this narcissistic age. RIP

Two great heroes and we miss them both
Just today heard awesome story of William J. Crawford. No trying to hold tears when watching his MOH ceremony.
That’s the most hard fuck citation I’ve ever heard. Well deserved.
I feel bad watching this because MSGT W. Crawford didn't look like he wanted it, but I say he should have had the full 30 minutes on Crawford because he deserve that in full!! God bless him on Earth or in heaven, I hope he has a special place in heaven because he deserves it all!
Look into the story about him working as a Janitor at the Academy and how one of the cadets found out who he was and what his military history was. It will help you understand that he was happy to be there.
It is a common trait amongst recipients of high honours that they are humble. I can't speak to the American system, but any British soldier who actively sought medals would not get them and I would imagine it is the same in the US. A random bit of trivia about our Medal of Honour, AKA the Victoria Cross, is that it comes with the letters 'VC' after your name, and no matter what other letters you may acquire throughout life, eg CBE, OBE, professional qualifications, etc, that VC always comes first.

Crawford was working as the janitor at the Academy!
Mr. Crawford and his wife now rest in the U.S. Air Force Academy Cemetery as the only enlisted army soldier to do so.
At 5:00 former president Reagan jokes about the other two service academies. He's charming and witty. Why can't Trump demonstrate these desirable traits instead of throwing tantrums all the time.
