I'm a Democrat. This was when party didn't matter. I liked Reagan, both as a President, but more importantly, I respected him as a human being. His compassion. His words, and how he spoke them. They invoked emotion. I didn't like some of his policies, but I think he did more good than harm, and he made all of us better people.

Party still doesn't matter to people with common sense. You listen to the facts, support those that support the people of the country (that would be EVERY man and woman who pays taxes) and you pick the person who will do good for the people and businesses as well but in a happy medium kinda way. With the best interests for both and still maintaining the rights and limitations to both and most importantly one who respects the office , upholds the laws and defends our country and our democracy and goes forth to improve our country for all of us, not just the rich or for a certain party or belief but for one nation for all under God.

Destroyed America in a ton of ways
Impossible for anyone after to own a house with any kind of job easily. Destabilised the middle class. Destroyed unions and made the current day job market of today where you are worthless snd replacable, doesnt matter how great you are, you're treated like trash. If someone's in boss man position and is a jerk you're screwed
      So much bs
Started the outsourcing crisis, and the runaway dept that's been going on forever now
But people love to romanticise this *he fought communism! * bs which like okay but... HIS POLICIES THO.....
Yeah no crap he *looked good on camera* he was a actor.... He supplied weapons to enemies and also caved to terrorists multiple times. Ignored AIDS Epidemic While Tens of Thousands Died. Robbed the Social Security Trust Fund To Pay For Budget Shortfalls. Allowed Family Farms industry To Go Bankrupt. Caused Savings and Loan Industry to Collapse. It was almost inevitable. But in civics class, I think 1982 my teachers lost it when playing to us Reagans speach to the UK Parliament. Where he said "The soviet union is an evil empire and will be doomed to the ash bin of history." So many of my teachers exclaimed "we have a mad man on the switch."
Maybe I was just 12. In my life, i never heard such an "F you" from a national leader. I will NEVER forget that speach. Everyone who had authority was scared. But I was not. I’m a Democrat, and I wasn’t around when Reagan was president, but I’ll say this: whatever you think of him, as a politician or an individual, Ronald Reagan was an excellent orator. I know he didn’t write most of his speeches, but he knew how to deliver them better than the large majority of public figures from the era of recorded audio. He spoke clearly, at a steady pace, and he knew how to use vocal inflections and tone, which so many today-Republican or Democrat, public figure or ordinary person-do not.
I can’t lie; his delivery and his positive disposition inspire me to believe even now that America can still harness the potential that he so often talked about.
There are so few politicians today who are good orators, and there are even fewer, in either party, that make me feel as confident in what the country is capable of as Reagan does when I listen to him.

Truly believes in our Country. Always quoting other great "leaders" of other countries. Always quoting great presidents. Actually knows the history of our country. Never puts him or herself first. Truly believes in our Constitution. Truly believes in our judicial system. And most of all Truly Believes in All Americans. How will you know if this the right person? After three sentences, you'll know regardless if this person is a democrat or republican. A candidate who puts the people first, the country first, it wouldn't matter what political party that candidate is speaking from.

Not really. If you look at Reagans record, he was a union buster, and put into motion the terrible economy we deal with now with his "reaganomics" that caused the transfer of wealth from the bottom to the top, and the vanishing of the american middle class. Not to mention he made a deal with Iran to keep the hostages until he was president. He also inadvertently created al-Qaida who did 9/11. He was one of the worst presidents we've ever had. But he was very charismatic.

I was just coming into my teens when Ronald Reagan was elected president. It didn't much matter to me at the time as i'm a Brit, but looking back, we as a nation was always terrified of the nuclear threat as we had regular infomercials of what to do if the bomb went off. Being a small landmass, it doesn't take long to work out that a few strategically placed atomic bombs would annihilate the UK. Reagan single-handedly solved the nuclear arms race, reduced atomic weapon stockpiling and the world for once felt safe. We should all be thankful for this honourable President.

@pa tamburrino his trade policies and job creation really didn't help a lot of people. People forget Reagan wasn't only a Governor in his life but like Arnold he was an actor before becoming any of those. Reagans policies destroyed minorities combined with his war on drugs, which gave minorities way more time than people of European American descent for the same crime, and he did little to nothing about it combined with various other policies. Unfortunately, compared to various other President he fell short but had charisma and was very likeable like JFK, Bill and Barack, which is most likely why he is remembered so well combined with what occurred with Carter similar to when Obama took over from Bush. Reagan was funny and knew how to move around a room of people. Trump was just bad all the way around because he could have been great but did little for the opioid pandemic, destroyed our environment more than what it is and create various policies that were almost anti-health and anti-education combined with rolling back civil rights and housing rights, etc. Reagan was a known racist as well and so was Nixon when they chatted over the phone. However, Nixon said the words and Reagan just laughed over the call (laughing makes him just as guilty as if he said the word or was in agreement). Nixon did usher in various good healthcare policies though even though he was a prick too. Reagan talked about inflation in his debates but couldn't really do much as it grew similar to how it normally does but that was one of his talking points during his debate with Carter. Carter wasn't as bad as people believe him to be, but he messed up during the war, which made some people probably view him as anti-American, but he is more of a man that likes to talk it out than blow people's heads off, etc. Carter did usher in the setup for Presidents to do foundations, etc. Sometimes I wonder what a second term of Carter would have been, but I don't wonder what a second term of Trump would have been or Bush Sr even though Bush Sr. was a way better President than Trump. Reagan is probably one of the better President in the Republican party outside of Lincoln and a couple others.

This speech shows one of the primary differences between Trump and Reagan. You relate everything Reagan says "we" or "American people" with "I" and you have Trump. This is why he doesn't unify. Ever wonder why he is so unpopular even though everyone was better off when he was president? Because he didn't inspire. He took credit instead of giving it. He humiliated opponents instead of letting them know they, too, were benefitting from the recovery. If he were to adopt some of Reagan's approach now, we'd have another Reaganesque landslide in November.
