This is how a leader should be. Calm, collected, yet unintimidated by the media or anybody else. The U.S. desperately needs another President like this.

@@metalmacabre9991Correction, if Trump were shown the respect and intelligence illustrated by these professional journalists, there would be no problem... To quote the late Rush Limbaugh "Trump does not attack, he reacts." Unfortunately, today, many of the journalists are without depth perception or critical thinking skills and have a mentality and maturity level comparable to a child in the third grade... This is a direct result of a press that has abrogated its responsibility as a check on government for the benefit of the citizenry as mandated by the constitution but instead turned political activists and climbed in bed with one corrupt political party... No longer reporting the news but making it. The press has no agenda but to report the truth to the people.

These journalists weren't fans of Reagan and all likely voted against him, but they behaved as civilized, mature professionals. They were willing to give Reagan a chance without open disrespect and taunts. They asked tough questions without badgering him. They were congenial without being obsequious. There were no ad hominens, no raised voices, no unfounded claims, or assaults on character made to Reagan's face.
In 30 years things have deteriorated to such a level, I'm embarrassed by the current state of this country. We went from a country with problems to looking like a an asylum from stem to stern. Standards matter, and just because someone else lowers their's doesn't make it reasonable to lower ours. It might feel good to insult or accuse, but you end up compromising yourself. Imagine interviewers behaving crazier than Charles Manson while interviewing Manson? That would be so pathetic to see, but this is what passes as public discourse today. Credibility like respect is difficult to acquire, but easily and permanently lost when you lower the bar for attention or ratings.

I'm a Liberal from Los Angeles. Ronald Reagan's home and burial place. I was in the U.S. Navy from 1989-2003. Nobody has done more to boost the moral of all of our branches of the armed forces than Ronald Reagan. Our pay-checks doubled. He brought back all the WWII battle ships, it was the best time ever to serve in the military. We were respected every port we pulled into. He never started any new wars. But he sure flexed our American muscle. But he never through a punch....he was so respected, he just told people what to do, and they did it.

However due to the Cold War he greatly aligned with dictators in Latin America, was late to act if at all in the AIDS crisis, and relatively non-existent on inner city poverty. Given that however, I would take him over Bush Jr., and Donald Drumpf any day.

After watching a few videos like this of Reagan recently, I am more convinced than ever that, as the instructors at Hillsdale have said many times over, "we get the government we deserve".
Reagan was a product of my grandparents' generation; he talks like them, acts like them, and reminds me of them in everyway. And I remember the 80s fondly because of the time I spent with them.
Trump represents who we are today, just as Joe Biden does. Both were/are perfect representatives of where we are at as a nation. I don't care if you love or hate who is in office, they are an accurate representation of this nation as a whole.
This is what we've created, this is what we deserve.

Most people in this country have no moral or intellectual clarity, knowledge of right and wrong -- so we inherit leaders who also don't...

Reagan's contemporaries fought and won WWII. Reagan sat out and later lied about it.
Reagan's contemporaries elected FDR four times and Truman once, ratifying the New Deal vision of an activist federal government along with barring white supremacist hiring practices and desegregating the military and other federal agencies. Reagan made a career out of opposing all that, first on the corporate payroll then at the taxpayers' expense. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug and famed white supremacist Nancy Reagan brilliantly insisted that we just say no to drugs. She also said, "Look at all these beautiful white people!" live on television from Claremont, Illinois but the hateful liberals in the media choose to remember her and the white supremacist reactionary she married after his divorce as classy. LOL!

@@tristanmullen8015 Such an infantile response. Fitting for a demonstrably insecure, immature young man (person?).
Hoping for an "Ivy league" education? 50 years ago that meant something. Today? Today those institutions are just tax-free investments funds with a side business. Communities of group-thinkers with a leftist ideology. Ignorant in the basic applications of the lessons of history, economics and constitutional democratic government. You'll fit right in.
I did wish you good luck in your echo chamber. I was more correct than I even imagined.

Watching Reagan answer these questions so thoughtfully toward the end of his term - then turning on the news to see a POTUS shuffling away from the press in fear and refusing to take questions. Ouch.

Or seeing the POTUS shouting at and insulting them on a daily basis...

I wonder what that question about Iran Contra from Rather was, that the Reagan Library felt compelled to cut out. Speaks volumes.

People nowadays may not understand the significance of having Peter Jennings, Tom Brokaw, Dan Rather, and Bernard Shaw in the same room at the same time interviewing Reagan. All networks working together didn't happen often, and the networks' anchors were the most viewed newsmen in America since there were less networks.

Wow...I just found out tonight that the media has always been on the left. Damn...all of these 51 years that I have lived, I thought these guys like Dan and Tom were neutral. Glad I found this.

I was the same way at one time very naive. They've always been on the left and as you can see nothing has changed in 45 years. These are smear Merchants trying to get a gotcha moment with President Reagan. Dan rather's nothing but a lying smear Merchant. His career was ended from lying...

Real anchormen; a real President. Not woke, nor PC, nor a pandering lightweight.

Dan Rather raising up in his seat in a brief effort to get the pole out of his keester, but without success. It obviously remains in place to this day.
