    Reagan walked in and took his place at the podium without a notecard directing him to do so.
    His pants were clean and remained so throughout the press conference.
    He spoke in complete sentences.
    He did not call only on a preordained list of press.
    He had harsh words for America's enemies at the time.
    He had solutions that involved cutting useless bureaucracy not throwing money at it.
    Was not hustled out after two answers by his handlers.
    We need another Reagan.

      That's the huge problem today is we don't have a Reagan out there that will run after the mess we have now. The last 3 have morally bankrupt us. The 2 dems have done more to defeat us than the Chinese an Russians have combined. The narcissist had great things he did economically an in judicial but his foreign policy was lacking. He was right about Nato and the new green hoax deal where you convince the populous of sea levels rising while you build personal mansions on the coast. Of course, Reagan outdid him by cutting taxes and increasing spending. He didn't make the government smaller, he just shifted allocations ay from bureaucracies and towards national defense, while cutting taxes (i.e., cutting federal income) at a rate unheard of in presidential history.

There has never been a generation that has been as concerned with the environment, the oppressed, the minority, etc. as the current one despite their faults. As someone who longs for the days of Reagan and Carson I think we should give the young 'uns a shot and the benefit of the doubt.The noisy ones will always be the ones who get the most attention, but the silent ones are the ones who work to make society better, bring clean drinking water to the world, etc. I know there are many many faults with many many aspects of our society today but I want to encourage you - have hope. Do you remember when Reagan was President? I certainly do. Perhaps you were too young? That is no disgrace. You are incorrect in saying that he “did not need to read a TelePrompTer.” He certainly did, and was very skillful in doing so. Actually, President Reagan used the TelePrompTer a lot, and I mean A LOT! It was said that he never met a TelePrompTer that he didn’t like. Ronald Reagan was the King of the TelePrompTer. Except for news conferences when he spoke extemporaneously, President Reagan ALWAYS used a teleprompter or note cards whenever he made a speech. Using a prompter made him appear strong, because he was an absolute master communicator who knew how to deliver his lines to the public; he knew how to pause; he understood vocal variety, and he knew how to emphasize certain points. Because he was a trained actor, President Reagan was great at hitting his mark and delivering his lines. There was none better. NONE! On the other hand, speaking off the cuff at Press Conferences was definitely NOT his strong suit, especially as he aged throughout his 70’s throughout his two terms as President. Ronald Reagan was never really comfortable at Press Conferences in my view. JFK, in my opinion, was far Reagan’s superior when speaking at Press Conferences. But he was 30 years younger at the time.

Volker raised rates aggressively and that is clearly not going to have positive outcomes for people in the short term and even though government spending can drive some inflation when it is paid for by expanding money supply, moderating government spending is not really a mechanism through which inflation can be tamed. It was a fair question to point out that programs to grow the economy and raising interest rates are at odds with each other. If you think that's "leaving individual Americans alone" then I don't know what to tell ya. The 2nd Ammendment exists for a reason. Everyone has the right to bear arms. It's the law. But he apparently didn't care about the law all that much. And now Californians have to deal with this stuff that he enacted decades after Reagan died. The spectre of government hangs over the country long after its fiercest proponent, Reagan, stopped standing. Sure he _CLAIMED_ to be anti-government, anti-state, anti-centralisation. But look at his actions, instead of his campaign promises, his words. Like all politicians, he was a liar, and so didn't actually do what he said he was gonna do (be anti-government) but instead actually strengthened it and centralised it even further

    Nothing changed with Dept of Education and Energy....I never realized he wanted to abolish them. Smart move.

    • @CountArtha
      @CountArtha 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Department of Education was brand new, created in 1979 at the tail-end of Carter's administration. The Dept. of Energy was created in 1977 to oversee rationing during the energy crisis. Reagan's solution was just to deregulate the energy sector so they could produce more, which is _ALWAYS_ the right decision when prices are rising.
      .... But yeah, major fail that he didn't just nip them in the bud and abolish them both.

    This man never used a tele-prompter to speak. Didn't have easy questions that were pre-planned. And took questions from individuals who did not always agree with him, without animosity, hostility, or bias.
    How things have changed. And not for the better.

      Well they're here now. the communists. so what good did it do us to bring down the Soviet Union ? Don't get me wrong. I loved Reagan, and think he was a good President, Best President of my lifetime. but Margaret Thatcher was right about a United Germany not being good for the future of Europe, and the Democrat party is the biggest enemy America has had since King George. Russia is an autocracy and oligarchy now. So again i ask. What good did it do us ? Reagan did make did make some major mistakes, or miscalculations anyway. He also granted amnesty to 3 million illegal immigrants.
