    I was looking for a generic video on how to install quarter panels, figuring it would be on any car but mine. I am so pleased to find your videos on 68 firebird, since I have a 67 I’ve owned since 1974. Thank you so much.

      Glad to help. What you are experiencing trying to find good information to tackle things on your own especially for firebirds there isn’t much out there. I love these cars and want to see them all back on the road. Figured I would do a video series on the entire rebuild to help anyone at home. Good luck on your 67 bird!

      Welcome buddy. This works great if doing the outer only. You did yours the same way I would have if I was replacing the inner and outer. Normally the cars i get are very rusty and i replace both wheel well sections, it was fun doing only 1/2 for a change

    Not sure if you watched the Vice grip garage live last night ? Dereck announced he is now legally blind in his left eye due to metal rust imbedded in it. He will require surgery to try and corrected it. My buddy just lost his sight in his left eye and it was preventable. Please everyone use safety glasses and face shields when your grinding. Yes there hot and they fog up , but they can save your vision. Plus your leading by example for your kids . Keep saving the birds safely.

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Eye sight is definitely precious, I have had rusty metal extracted from my eye before too. DO NOT read any further this might be a bit much for anyone that has eye injury sensitivity. Me being one of them. To extract the metal and remove the rust from the effected area the DR does numb the eye but you have to watch as they basically drill out the damaged area from your eye. Not a fun visit then the following days that eyes vision is blurry mine did clear up Fortunately I should be using a face shield for sure but I will always at the minimum have my glasses on when doing metal work. Yes please use wisdom and don’t always do what others are doing when it comes to safety. I also need to head my own warning and words.

      Welcome, I really liked it. I am sure I am most likely not the first to do this. In the past I have peeled back the layers to put it back to factory but it seemed to cause more damage that needed repaired and took a lot longer to complete. I see myself doing it this way from now on

  • @GoGoGarage
    @GoGoGarage ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It's definitely an alternative way of installing it, otherwise you have to remove all the layers to put it where the factory originally did. The cars are like onions, a bunch of layers.

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It seems to fit nicely and not detectable especially after the seam sealer is installed. I feel I do more damage when pealing back the layers to get it back in like factory. Maybe a rare ram air 2 bird I might just maybe do it back to factory.

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It worked and I know it’s not how it was done from the factory but how I see it is it’s less damaging to the rest of the car body and still worked great in the end. It’s not detectable when the car is all assembled and it’s quicker too.

    This is one of your new subscribers and new 68 bird owners from Ohio. I happen to have one of these sprints to refresh your memory. I've just gotten a chance to look at more of these awsome videos. I will put your email info in some time today. What are the best books in your opinion to help me with wiring and different things? I been getting different things working on this old car. The wipers and horn were not even hooked up. I think it would be helpful for me to have some books on hand.

    Thinking of doing it that way myself, but I'm only removing the outer quarter panel lip at the wheel opening. It's going to be tight to remove the old outer wheel house, but i think it can be done. Then tight as well to get the new one in, doing it your way. Do you feel it can be done that way/ Additionally, is that wheel house AMD or who, and do you think it will matter who I source it from?

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This wheel well was AMD and it worked great. I think if you remove the outer lip of the 1/4 you should be able to get the outer well in place

    by installing this way will it kick out the outer wheelhouse by a 16th or so and will it matter?

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Technically yes but when done it didn’t effect panel alignment. Now if it was a Ultra rare car like a trans am or big block Camaro I would probably peel it apart and remove the old panels.

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not yet, going to test the 1/4 panel first to verify proper fit just in case I have to move the fender well around. Once happy with fitment i will get the wheel housing all welded into place. Then weld the 1/4
      Panel on. That is one of the huge advantages of screwing the car together first I can test fit everything then once happy weld it all up.
