Takes a long time to get good at the hand skill for welding. My buddies who have careers not fab related always think I'm a wizard with what I can do. I also do it 8 hours a day everyday lol. The welds for someone new to spool welding weren't exactly embarrassing. I'd say that's a very good start. Keep practicing!
Looks great gave me some ideas for building mine. Also think about adding a weep hole in case water gets in also for condensation. You need a way for air and little moisture that will end up inside. You may have built It water tight but water will end up Getting in so it needs to come out. It doesn’t need to be big just needs to be able to air out so mold doesn’t grow inside
Very nice workmanship. I learned about welding aluminum. I’m definitely going to practice because I have some projects I’ve been wanting to do with aluminum. Thanks for the video.
Beautiful! I am thankful for your video! What is the type of saw (maker, model) and the disc, that was used to cut aluminum plates? I mean the cordless one
Excellent work and a good result. Very impressive! I try to do everything myself and do a lot of paid work for others in my field. However, I hire an expert to do my fabrication and welding.
Hello @Aa-ron25 , thank you for commenting! The lock can be found under truck toolbox latch. The hinge is known as a piano hinge. Industrial Metal Supply is a metal distributor and we don't carry hardware such as the latch. We do carry piano hinges, but you would have to cut them to size yourself. Besides that, you should be able to find these pieces of hardware at your local home improvement store such as Lowe's or Home Depot. Amazon may carry these items as well.
WOULDNT HAVE MIG WELDED IT.. TIG SHOULDA BEEN USED ALL THE WAY.. VERY RISKY WITH SPOOL GUN BECAUSE YOU GENERALLY MUST MOVE FAST AND STEADY TO ACHIEVE GOOD WELDS WITHOUT OVERHEATING..
Depends on how many someone has done. Also depends how far you want to go with it. Just folding an aluminum little box. If you talking first timer folding a basic metal box I would guess 10-16 hours start to finish. Now if you are talking about building a strong had to bash into. With building extra gussets, adding locks, making it water tight, glueing it up, testing it, mounting it, and painting I would guess between 15-40 hours maybe even longer depending on the person making it. Metal fab time varies majorly depending on how quality, longevity, and over all custom skills. Is it cheaper to just buy one or building your own. It’s always going to be cheaper to buy something pre made like this but this way gives you the chance to make it your own, the way that fits best for your application, and personal knowledge. In the end there’s more value in something you made custom to work for you then just the value in material. People need to learn that when buying items like this your not only Paying for materials but your paying for the knowledge that the person has gained building things. Plus the value knowing it’s built correctly and exactly how you want it to be built
How thick is the treadplate you are working with in this video? I always struggled with anything thinner than .125 with my spool gun. .080 is the thinnest I've done somewhat consistently with practice before welding. Finally picked up an import pulse TIG for thin aluminum. Haven't used it yet.
By the time you get to the lid your welds "sound" a lot better. Might want to make sure you are getting good gas coverage. Should reduce suit. Maybe some sort of gas spreader inside the nozzle. One of the guys on one of the big welding channels used something that looked like a coarse scotch bright pad inside the nozzle of his spool gun to make sure the gas went out all around his electrode.
terrible idea to score the back of aluminum for a bend. Bends easy but will break over time for sure. nice ryobi tools too. TH-camrs never invest in quality tools because they clearly don't make their living with the tools. Bet his camera is nice though. Dont listen to anything this guy says. another youtube fabricator, not a pro.
I was wondering about that. If he had a hand brake I figured he probably wouldn’t have needed to score it. And I’ve seen pros use Ryobi before. They work great.
This dude is a mastercraftsman ! I stop and listen to what he's got to say ! 👍👍
this was fantastic. Thank you for the tutorial!
Real insightful. Thanks for sharing such inspiring experience
Very nice job. You kept it simple so many will not be afraid to try themselves. Thx for sharing 😊
Great job! You made it look easy
Saved this to my favorites ! Outstanding video with some good tips.

This was exactly what I needed to build boxes for my flatbed truck. Thanks!
Awesome job. Great craftsmanship as always👍

Thats a good box. I will be making on for my truck.
Love it. Definitely gave me the confidence to try my own for for my battery box.
Great craftsmanship
I love that work.
A great job!!! Well done
Well done sir.
Nice job ! 👏
Nice job.
It's worth the time I'd rather build my own gives me something to keep my brain working
That’s one sweet build; great attention to detail 👍🏽
Beautiful!

Your a true craftsman well done.
Great job, thanks .
Really helped me. Thank you
outstanding!
Looks pretty good from here. I was going to do a box for my kayak/motorcycle trailer. Gave me a good idea of how to go! Thats a big battery box!!!!!
Great video, thanks for sharing mate!
Nice job
What can you make using the .025 aluminum...?
whom boxes have frozen locked applicable by key ; be wiser in snowmobile nightfall before you approach mechanism type scenery
they say ice chest so much who would bother
miniature fernis depleted issue of natural density
shut/opening
swivel by circumference radius lid lateral jonkchere window aesthetic
trunks are doors right
Fantastically crafted with minimal capabilities.
nice work!
What thickness is the diamond plate
It’s hard to beat the pride you get outta self fabricating your own. Looks nice brother. How about a vent, being your putting batteries in it?
What a great video. Exactly the project I am doing. Can you tell us what thickness and grade the aluminum was
What is the black item you sticked on?
Great video, ThankYou!
What'd be trickflow is the to live part ; shakes spear
Thanks for the warning, I couldn't see anything after 4:55
👍 bravo pour le boulot
Where did you get your latch?
nice box, those screws holding are they tampers proof screws?
Excellent work and a good result. Very impressive!

How did you secure the piano hinge to the lid. I'm having a hard time since rivets tend to stick out and hit the inside edge of box.
Looks like NYLOCK ( Lock nuts ) on the inside by

Nice work! How you put the hinge to the door? I can see the one side ,but i cant see the other ?
Is it a doubletape?
Such a pretty box its a shame to add that insulation to the inside.
Approximately how many hours would you say it takes to do this project?

one live to live cast goes mudding these days
*looks not up* you wouldn't tailgate would you
Aluminum is tricky -practice on scrap
