Hey! I really hope this video rings your bell. I know the first time I heard about savoury porridge I was a bit hesitant, but why? It makes so much sense! I hope you give it a go and keep me updated!

I'd heard about savory oatmeal well over a year ago but was reluctant to try it. But this morning I woke up realizing I've been eating too much sweet (and too much honey in tea!). I already had my slow but lazy oatmeal ready when I turned on your video (where I just put the oats, water and salt in a small casserole dish in a 200-degree oven and let it cook for several hours), and just while listening to your video I added a bit of butter (which is mostly a no-no for me, but a treat) and then some unsalted roasted peanuts. I love it...! Really enjoy your style, and even though I may not go for any of your recipes exactly, they give me great ideas. Thanks for the video!

P.S. I am ESPECIALLY glad to warm up to oats more -- because eat foods with fiber is a big deal for me, and they are also otherwise so nutritious. And I'll still do it with blueberries and banana sometimes too!

Not a sweets for breakfast person, so savory oats have always been my go to. My latest thing is throwing together loaded veggie oat groat porridge in the instant pot before bed... lentils, greens, aromatics, mushrooms, whatever, sealing and setting the timer so it's done for breakfast! All hands off besides the few minutes it takes to throw everything into the pot, and almost as good as having someone cook breakfast for you!

They dip fish that was rolled in raw oats, deep fried, then when they take it to the table they dip it into cooked oatmeal.

Except the way my Grandpa made them , he would pour them into the boiling water, then stir and stir and stir ,then stir some more, then after that he stir them and some more, and it would make them slimy like hot wall paper past. Makes gag just thinking about them. Then I learned to make them myself and really enjoy them.

Awww... seeing Grandma's canister made me tear up a bit! I remember it from as early as 1963 so it has had quite a life.
My work kitchen has about 3 square feet of countertop and no range, so I do porridge for 12 toddlers with a no-cook method. I put the quick oats in a casserole dish (plus salt and sometimes sugar), then boil a kettle. Set the casserole dish on a couple of tea towels, pour in the boiling water, stir, then cover and put more tea towels on top for a bit of insulation. Let it sit 15 minutes to half an hour, adjust with more water if it is too thick and poof! it's done. Quick oats should definitely be on my convenient foods!

All of you people saying oat meal shouldn’t be savory are wrong and RACIST.
To everyone asking, no, it is not weird to put soy sauce in your oat meal. This is something I have done my whole life and believe to be completely normal, yet all of the staff here at the insane asylum where I live think I’m crazy for it. Amazing how of all the people freaked out about a little soy in their oat meal, I’m the one court ordered to be here, when all I did was kill my parents, cook them into a stew, and eat it.

I love polenta made and cooled in a bread pan then sliced and fried in butter. So good!
