    You guys were awesome! we moved to a new home with a above ground pool. I have NEVER owned a pool, and know nothing about a pool or filter. Needless to say I am watching all the youtube how to videos I can. The filter on the pool is a sand filter, and I have been trying for over a month to get some things figured out.You guys killed 3 birds with one stone for me anyway with this video! Thank you!!

    Nice video!! Watched it two nights ago, did a sand change today and thanks to this video it went smoothly with no surprises. I used a rubber plug instead of tape or a cup for the stand pipe

    To quickly empty the filter of water, I use a garden hose. First, I fill the hose with water, and then I use the siphoning method. This allows the water to drain by itself, ensuring that all the water is completely removed from the filter.

    Thanks for the video - it was very informative. We are getting ready to change out our laterals and we notices that at the bottom of the lateral there is a hole on the flange that holds the laterals. We are wondering is this a blow out hole or what is this hole supposed to do? It is on the black plastic and it is not a screw hole as it is larger than that. I have a picture of it, but I see that I cannot attach to show you. Can you help us with what this is? Thank You

    First let me say this was a very helpful video. I have a sand filter and change it awhile ago. I'm starting to see sand in my pool and spa. How often do you change the sand 🤔? Also how often do you change the fingers 🤔? After watching your video I believe I can change mine out. Just one last question How do you vacuum wet sand 😳 or did you have to let it sit a day before you vacuum the sand out?. 🤔

    • @Jimmy2Tech
      @Jimmy2Tech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello,
      Thank you for checking out our video. We change ours every 2 years. With that being said we do use a skimmer sock to stop a lot of the debris from getting into the filter which can cause that crust layer on top of the sand. After a couple years we start to notice small amount of sand on the bottom of the pool and it does not seem to filter as well because the sand particles become rounded and don't trap as much particles. So that is why we change every 2 years. As far as the fingers go you only need to change them if you have broken ones. That's why it is important to have some water in the bottom of the filter before you start to add sand in order to disperse the sand even and not have the full weight fall on a finger during refill. Our shop vac can suck out the wet sand you just need to shake the hose every so often because the wet sand sticks in the hose. Also depending on the size of your shop vac empty it more often because it gets heavy. I hope we were able to help.

    Is sand removal necessary to change the laterals? Can I just pull it out? My sand is pretty new and don’t want to end up buying more sand

    • @Jimmy2Tech
      @Jimmy2Tech  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, you definitely need to remove the sand or you wouldn't be able to pull it out otherwise.

    Zip tie a plastic bag/sheet over the central pipe to prevent sand going in

    My sand filter shows about 10 psi after backwashing. When it gets to about 13-14 psi it needs to be backwashed again (low flow shuts off pool heater and vacuum doesn't work). This filter is about 25 years old and never had sand changed. Do you think this is the problem?

    • @Jimmy2Tech
      @Jimmy2Tech  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Lol, I'd say that could be your problem. overtime it will develop a crust layer on top of the sand not to mention the granules of sand will become rounded and not filter effectively.

    • @Jimmy2Tech
      @Jimmy2Tech  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For that it usually is the whole assembly. Which gives you piece of mind that you have all new in there.

    question, do I need to disconnect all hoses first?

    • @Jimmy2Tech
      @Jimmy2Tech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If your outlet and inlet in your pool is plugged then you can leave the hoses connected. But it will be much much easier to remove them so you can easily take the top of the pump off without the hoses restricting your movement.

    Hi My buddy gave me his old sand filter.Why is it pumping sand into my pool?

    • @Jimmy2Tech
      @Jimmy2Tech  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes the pump will blow a little sand when it is first turns on. Would probably reccomend a good backflush, and a possible sand change.

    I bought a new sand pump and filter and been running great for almost a week. This morning I noticed sand in a pile near the return and it's coming out of the filter. HELP! Brand new sand, pump, and filter. All parts were working fine til now.

    • @Jimmy2Tech
      @Jimmy2Tech  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Robert,
      Finer sand will come out for the first couple of days with a new sand filter and sand change but should stop. If you have sand coming out a week later it sounds like one of the fingers has come loose and allowing sand to pass through. You are going to need to empty the sand out of your filter and check the manifold and fingers for any gaps or possible broken pieces. Hope this helps

    One of my laterals broke off at the base where it screws in, I’m afraid I’ll break the plastic trying to get it out. Is there a way to just cap the hole and I’ll be down a finger?

    • @Jimmy2Tech
      @Jimmy2Tech  ปีที่แล้ว

      If its like ours, you might be able to caps it with something, but it would need to be strong because of the pressure or should I day suction. Better to replace it for sure.

    Hey brother thanks for this video! Just moved into our new home with a 25k gallon pool and it’s my first time owning a pool so I didn’t winterize properly, I should’ve taken my filter apart for the winter. I also didn’t drain the filter from the drain on the bottom before winter which may have caused a crack in the pipe or lateral because everytime I got it on filter mode it’s spitting back sand through my return jets. I want to do this myself and not pay anyone I feel it’s a pretty straightforward repair if I buy the proper assembly pieces for it. I wanted to ask how can I take the sand out without using a shop vac?

    • @Jimmy2Tech
      @Jimmy2Tech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could just scoop it out until there is a managable amount to dump out without hurting the laterals. It is pretty heavy with 200 lbs of wet sand in there.

    • @Stinga64
      @Stinga64 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Jimmy2Tech thanks for the video brother! I ended up borrowing my neighbors Shopvac and just sucked up all the sand out. Turns out the assembly piece at the bottom by the fingers is cracked so I’ll have to replace the whole assembly and get 300pounds of sand in this bad boy again. Sand was due for a change anyways. Thank you so much for this guide it is very helpful for people trying to diy 👌🏽
