    You are the man! Saved me from buying another setup. Ive watched a couple of your videos just now just to stay informed and prepared for the future. instead of going into panic mode i now feel confident in repairs and i am no longer ignorant on alot of the pump parts and how they work. I suggest anyone reading this watch his other videos to be prepared because all moving parts fail eventually

    What a great instructional tutorial Mark! Walked outside this morning, my pool is gurgling, I flip on the lights, it’s drained to level with the strainer basket, I walk to the pump house and it’s draining from the backwash while in filter position. “Fkn pools broken again honey.” Instead of filling it in with concrete as I’ve threatened to do 18 times in the last 12 years I found you. I guess we’ll make it through season 13 now. Thanks Mark! CW4 Retired, 101st Airborne Division.

    Thanks Mark for the tutorial. Side mount on Hayward sand 240 was "crunchy". Knocked out the handle while still mounted. Unlike the other videos that show reassembly with an elephant standing on the top of the key to be able to seat the spring, your technique was simple. Cleaned everything and lubed it all up and now smooth as silk. The spider gasket is showing wear so I have some spares that I will glue in when I get some Permatex 2 sealant.
    Seated the entire unit with little effort, placing 2 bolts/nuts alongside each other and then pressing down the opposite side to fasten and snug up the rest, and then attached handle afterwards as you show.
    I was overthinking it and thought if necessary, I could get two longer bolts for opposite sides to pull the unit together but that proved unnecessary.
    Thanks again for the clear tutorial with no music.

    Update: just took my Hayward apart to inspect. Extremely dirty and without lube around the diverter shaft. No wonder it was hard to rotate. My local Pool Store has rebuild parts. Definitely need a new diverted with gasket. I’ll have it repaired and working again very soon. Couldn’t have done it without your videos. Thank you Mark.

    Thanks for the video. Just one issue- on my 714 valve, I was able to relace the valve spider gasket. Mine was leaking to waste - truely wasting water! Was able to remove the old one easily as it wasn't glued in. Got the spider gasket and top o ring for about $11 on amazon.

    • @cravenmorpus
      @cravenmorpus ปีที่แล้ว

      If your spider gasket is in the multiport body after you pull the key assembly off. Then you have the old style 710 valve. The 714 is the replacement. Notice how in the video the tip is perfectly round. After screws are screwed into sockets built into the multiport body, where the old style 710 was a sort of star shaped, with nuts on the bottom of the screws to seal the key assembly into place.
      You will also notice, on the 714 valve, there is a "bridge" in the spider gasket between two of the webbings, where as the old style valve is just a 5 spoke spider gasket (looks like a wheel with five openings connected to a tiny inner circle. No additional line running from one of the lines to the other. )
      I googled the gasket on Amazon by rubron? Or something like that, if you look in the pictures carefully they are clearly deceiving people. They show you two different valves and gaskets,
      Even in the final photo it has a step 1-3 picture. First two steps are a close up of where the gasket goes, in the bottom of the body of a 710, the third picture shows a 714 valve(it's round around the screw inserts)
      The gasket that is built into the diverter is completely different from the other, yes people sell that gasket bc some valves have one that looks similar to the Hayward, but those go inside the multiport of different valves. Gasket built into a diverter are almost impossible to completely take out without damaging the diverter.
      The store on Amazon is a clear deception.
      Google
      "Hayward 710T key assembly"
      Then Google the same thing. Except 714T instead of 710 and look at the difference in the two.

    Thanks Mark, super helpful video. You have a great way of explaining everything so it’s easy to understand. I wish I had seen this before I replaced my key assembly because it would have been so much easier and less likely to make a mistake. I used a couple of C-clamps to compress the spring with the assembly on a bench to get the handle and pin back in and it worked well but your method looks easier. Great work and glad I found your videos!

    I replaced the diverter after it broke. But since there’s a slight leak from the backwash line and some sand goes into the pool after each backwash. I made sure to place the diverter in the right position. The window facing the pressure gage when in filter position.

    I just noticed that all of a sudden ours is leaking pretty bad, so I think we need the o-ring that goes on the shaft/diverter. Can't really tell if it's leaking from the shaft/diverter area or from the area where the screws are installed, which would mean that we need the big O-ring. Thank you so much for this video! Hi Mark, thank u so much for your videos to watch. They have been very helpful. My husband disabled so I'm the one trying to maintain the pool. This first yr for my pool. I bought from my uncle and aunt. I have bought everything new so far. I bought liner from your store. I noticed little sand in pool. Not much, in spots. I haven't vacuum in over a week because of rain. I also noticed sand outside on bottom of sand filter. Was wanting to know how open it and check make sure everything inside the filter is ok. There a knob u turn on bottom. I don't know what that for. I don't want to open it if there pressure or ruin anything. Should I vacuum first and see I notice more on bottom of pool, or open filter and how without damaging anything? Thank you so much for your help. Love the videos. My pool is super clear. From videos. Keep putting more videos.

      @@lisaschlotman4805 If you have a broken lateral or laterals inside the filter you can get sand in the pool, however the sand will only accumulate on the floor of the pool under the return jets. If you have what looks like sand in spots all over the pool it’s probably dead algae or mustard algae. For normal vacuuming and cleaning you vacuum in the filter position, however mustard algae is so fine it will go through the filter back into the pool. In order to remove this fine sediment, vacuum in the waste position. When vacuuming in waste you will bypass the filter but you will also have to add water to the pool. If you actually have sand in the pool under the return jets then you will have to check your laterals inside the filter. I do have a video titled “Sand in your pool” as well as “How to change sand in your filter” that may help if needed. Thanks for watching.

The sand filter unit is probably 17 or 18 years old, and I may just get a whole new multi-valve unit, as I'm suspecting I'd be pretty much replacing everything inside in any case. Love your videos, Mark! You do a fantastic job getting thru to guys like me. I bought a home with an inground pool with a vinyl liner. The pool has been winterized and covered but never in use for 4 +yrs. (and we had to waive all inspections!) It looked like a black swamp when we pulled the cover, complete with toads, polliwogs and an awful stench. We just got the water clear, and now I have the leak issue with the water coming from the waste line. I have ordered the key assembly, due in Wednesday. That gives me three days in high temps.. I have the pool turned off as it was losing LOTS of water fast. Is it possible to put the pool in recirc or something to keep pool circulating? Or will it always send water thru the leaky gasket? Anything that I should do in the mean time or ok to just wait for the part? Really don't want to lose the ground we have gained here.

      Because the valve is under pressure you can not seal it because it will eventually leak. If the valve has a pin hole or crack in it then you will need to replace the whole valve. I should add that the plastic spacer doesn't seem to fit well at all. Thanks you for your help.

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  ปีที่แล้ว

      The non metallic bearing is plastic, this bearing is directly under the handle and allows the handle to turn easily and also helps with lift of the diverter. One of two metal washers/spacers go on top of the spring and the other goes under the spring These washers are a set and can be made in metal or plastic, it does not matter which one you have either will work.

    Great video. My problem is the sand filter like the one you're showing won't backwash. It did when i opened the pool a few days ago, but now there isn't any pressure. I clean out the basket strainers in pump & skimmer before backwashing anytime, & shut pump off before moving it from filter to backwash. Filter shows 5 psi (new gauge). Could it be pump instead of valve? Get lots of flow through outlet though. No leaks.

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  ปีที่แล้ว

      Put the valve on recirculate, if you have good flow in this position, you may need to backwash and rinse your filter thoroughly. If your flow is weak in the recirculate position then you may have a clogged pump. Here is a link on a video how to unclog your pump. If not, there could be a suction leak causing the pump to not hold full prime. Here is link to a video air bubbles in your pump, dealing with suction leaks. Hopefully this will help.

    Thank you for the really detailed video. Is it normal to have some slow water flow through the waste line in recirculation mode? No leaks during filteration. But there is a slight air bubbling noise coming from the filter. Not perfect in filteration. Pool is hazy and hard to get total clarity.

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  ปีที่แล้ว

      You should not have any water flow out of the waste line while in the recirculate position. The clarity of the pool has nothing to do with the valve, but you may need to test your water or even use a clarifier. If you have done this you may need to change sand or backwash and rinse the filter thoroughly. Thanks for watching.

      @digitopdeals1398 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HallmarkPoolSupplies Thank you very much for the reply. I was assuming that a slight leak in the valve may be causing low suction and that could lead to poor filteration. Higest shown in gauge is 20psi.

    Thank you for sharing this I was about to buy the whole multi port! I do have a question. We are slowly leaking water out of our backwash hose. I thought I heard you say the diverter would be the issue for that? Also, seem to have a leak around the sight glass, what do I do?

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are leaking water out of the backwash while in the filter position it would be the gasket on the diverter. If the sight glass is leaking you need to replace the washer on the sight glass. If the sight glass washer is good you want to make sure the sight glass isn’t cracked. Thanks for watching.

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies

      Turn off the pump, if your filter system is level or higher than the pool you will be fine. If your filter system is lower than the pool, close the skimmer and drain valves at the system, then you will also have to close or plug the return line (jets). Thanks for watching.

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  ปีที่แล้ว

      Your multiport is under pressure, and has nothing to do with suction at the skimmer. It sounds like you need to backwash or you have a suction leak. There are several different things that could cause this, you could have a cracked pump lid, a bad gasket or o-ring on the lid, loose or cracked plumbing fittings or a cracked housing on the pump to name a few, I need more information in order to help. If you would like to check out my patreon page I will be glad to go into more detail on this situation.

      Yes, if this is happening on a new valve, try turning off the pump and rotating the valve all the way around and let the valve pop back into position. This should reseat the valve back in position, if not then l would replace the valve especially if it is new. Thanks for watching.

      Just a point of clarification, the pool is leaking from inside the pool and was before I uncapped the return jets. Although they could be leaking also. It appears that the concrete fix broke the seal around the steps at the very least. I’m just trying to get my Inground pool with Hayward S210T sand filter up and running for the year and hopefully continue to repair over next sever months. It has been quite a struggle.

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies

      You should be able take the valve apart, then you can clean and lube so you can reset the diverter in filter position. If you are still leaking out of the backwash then plug the backwash line temporarily, now you won’t lose water and you can run the pool until the repair is made.
