This video was so helpful! My dad used to always take care of our pool and he passed away and left me in charge! come to find out when I opened the pool this year the stand pipe for the laterals was broken, watched this video a couple times, got my confidence up and did the whole repair myself! Thanks for sharing:)
my local pool store gave me an estimate of 'around $600' to change out the sand. That didn't include the price of the sand or a replacement O-ring. Your video was simple to follow so I'll do it myself this weekend. Thank you sir for a job well done!
@David Flowers. I would not give that pool store another dime for anything. That is ridiculous. My store quoted my $1000 to install a whole new one unit with sand.
Thank you for ALL of your advice. Watching your video made it easy for us to do this for the first time... Your Video made it all the way to the Philippines ....
Thank you so much for this video! I was quoted quite a large amount to change my laterals and labor. Cost me less then half the amount to do it myself and your video helped me do it! Minus the almost cutting off a finger 😂 thanks for the video!!!
Thank you very much for this so informative video to the point that made me go and buy the filtering assembly and open the sand filter and do the job so professionally not like before !! Thanks a lot again
Thanks for this very informative video. My pool guy said he'll charge me $350 so, thanks to you, looks like I'll save about $250! The use of a shop vac to remove enough sand before dumping out the rest is a great tip for me because I thought I was going to have to hire a young, STRONG handyman to tip the cannister over to remove the 300 pounds of sand. (I'm 67, BTW, so my heavy-hefting days are far behind in the rearview mirror!)
Very interesting and informative. Been having trouble with the filter and this explains why. I've been working with original sand from many, many years ago. Time for a change!
@@stevebutler812 Well said...we need those reminders in today's world. People get wayyyy too mad at each other quickly and over (sometimes) stupid things! My great grandma 👵 was the sweetest most kind lady EVER so when someone is pushing me to my limits I tend to say to myself "would you speak to Grandma Edie that way?" 🤣😂 Of course I wouldn't so that usually works for me!
I am about to have to move all of my pool lines and pump to a shed away from my patio. I was worried about moving the filter but this gave me the information I need to complete the job. Thanks for the video.
My filter has the 2 lines goin in the side of it. I’m sure replacin the sand in mine will be done the same way as yours. I just thought that I would throw in the differences in the lines FYI for anyone w/the same line arrangement as mine . Thank You Much For The Tutorial !!!😜!!!
Terrific videos that will save me about $300. Two things I might do differently is to replace the O-ring under the valve and to use a union joint on the lines to/from the filter. They are made for this kind of occasional disconnect/reconnect.
The Valve Body has a seal which can be replaced and also allow debris to pass directly back to the pool. Replace sand when the rough edges of the sand become smooth & don’t “grab” debris.
I just wanted to say this has been the the best video I have watched on TH-cam that was so descriptive , extremely informative. I have subscribed and looking forward to your other videos. Thank you very much
Most competent people can assemble a union so it won't leak. Alignment and eliminating pipe strain will work wonders. They are, after all, equipped with an o-ring seal. The reason why you need to change the sand every 3-5 years is that the sharp edges of the sand grains will wear down over time and reduce or eliminate the filtering efficiency. This leads to cloudy water that will not seem to clear up no matter how long you run the pump and exorbitant chemical use.
quick tip when you unscrew the cap at :25 if you turn the cap around it has a built in tool to remove the white insert so you can wash it out from the top
followed this yesterday and changed the sand no problem. amazing how the wet/dry vac sucks up that sand! unfortunately the PSI is still close to 30 on my pool so i'm gonna get another gauge, mine might be shot. Pool clears up quicker now though!
Thank you so much for your simple, but very efficient way to change the sand in my recently acquired 30 year old pool that came with my house. It was super easy to do.
Yeah. It had been 4 years since it had the sand replaced. I could tell last year it was getting close to needing changed. It’s not a hard job. It’s intimidating if you’ve never did it before.
Great video, dude. Simple, to the point, and highly informative. None of that long-winded bullshit you often see on TH-cam from people who like to talk, trying to sound smart. Subscription well-deserved!
