this dude is so efficient. millions of ppl like him in this country that works clean and efficient. Without ppl like Jim this country would be in the tubes. If i were ever elected president I would create a program where people like Jim visit all the schools in the country from west coast to east and teach them good common sense instilling honest hard work. too many people look for short cuts. Then scratch their heads when things fall short!

Awesome video! Your voice is definitely radio television level. Anyway somewhere I watched another video, and they put a sock over the center instead of tape. Make sure you take the sock off your foot. Also, big help on using the shop vac thank you so much for that! Also when I had an above ground pool, I purchased synthetic sand from Amazon. It really really filtered my above ground pool, very well. Also it definitely limited my having to backwash. Often. I live in the Southwest and the desert finds its way into your pool. But it's fine. Thank you so much. I liked and subscribed.

Hey Jim. Just purchased our first family home... Has a pool with a sand filter. In NZD the pool service people want to charge NZD $570 which is USD $390. Thanks for this video mate, saved me $400 NZD doing it myself. Couldn't be happier thanks. PS - I've tried USA beer while traveling there. Here in NZ we would need four of your beers to get close to one of ours :). Thanks again and subscribed.

Okay, we tried doing it with the water still in there because my husband said it was easier for the sand to travel up the hose and into the shop vac. Unsurprisingly, that just made it fill up with water that we would have to drain probably 10 times more often than we should have.

The best were the ball style stainless steel filters. It came apart with a threaded top. Tip it over and wash the sand out with a hose. Used muriatic acid to clean the calcium out after sand removal. I would drop a PVC fitting over the center pipe and pour the sand in. Old sand went on to the lawn.

I reused the old sand, I created a little sluice box with my wagon and filled it with water and all the contamination floated to the top, I just tipped it and drained it off, it took about 4 times and about 15 min. Then I scooped the sand back in. Works like a charm.

Hi Jim. Did you put a specific type of filter in your vac? I tried a contraption similar to a dust collector to hook up between my shop vac and the sand, but I'm thinking that is going to take a long time. I have 300 lbs of sand to get out. I might just go straight shop vac like you, but I don't want to chance having sand going into the motor.

@@DIYJIMAbsolutely. I did find a filter sock to cover the shop vac filter. That should keep the filter and motor protected. Thanks again!

You need pool filter sand I bought my sand at Lowe’s hardware store. Or go to a pool store

I noticed some of that pool sand is expensive, like 25 dollars for a 25 pound bag and I need 200 pounds

You should use pressure fittings for pool Supply and returns not DWV
