I had no idea until after I had my baby that by agreeing to a syntocin drip I was at risk for hemorrhage, increased pain, and a cascade of interventions. Had I known I would have never agreed. Informed consent is important. Currently ttc and I will approach this pregnancy with knowledge rather than fear.
Hi I’ll be scheduled to have induction at 40 weeks and 6 days, and I ask why? And the doctor said because I have a gestational diabetes. Is that enough?
I've been advised that if baby is an IVF baby, they will induce before or by 40 weeks due to placenta breakdown etc. Doesn't seem like much options here though?
A detailed question of 3 golden hours for me is when the baby comes out of the womb with no intervention properly and the cord will be cut then the baby will be in the mom’s arms (skin to skin) to start playing & latching for mom’s breast even it takes for 3h, right? I am wondering when the bath and baby shower will happen and the baby will be covered in a clothing then?
Mona, Dr Robyn encourages women to understand that routine procedures can wait and should not unnecessarily interrupt the precious time between a mother and her baby. In her PhD research, the 3 Golden Hours are so important in reducing the risk of many common breastfeeding complications. If the baby's Apgar Score is 7 or above, the baby belongs with the mother. Dr Robyn talks about this in great length in her online program to help women become fully prepared for their birth and breastfeeding journey. I hope this helps. Warm regards, Marie - Team Member
Why do they recommend induction? I’m 33 weeks pregnant, my son is 3. This will be our second after 2 early losses.. I am 38 yrs old.. I have been told waiting for labor 39/40 wks can put me at risk for stillbirth... is this true?
It's important to discuss this with your trusted health professional. If induction is recommended, our encouragement is to ask why and what the benefits, risks and alternatives are. There is a lot of pressure on women older than 35 to be induced as they approach 39/40 weeks. Don't be afraid to ask why and as always, listen to your maternal instincts. All the best for your birth and breastfeeding journey. ~ Marie, Team Member
I'm sorry you weren't listened to. The maternal instincts are often suppressed in our busy hospital system, but our encouragement for women is to be strong and ideally, have a strong advocate by your side. Stay strong ~ Marie, Team Member
Beautifully said Dr Robyn - thank you for supporting mothers on this journey xx
