  • Hello there! Welcome back to the channel. Today's topic is on that of the Kontos-class Frigate! A secret vessel developed by unlikely collaborators: Kuat Drive Yards and Mitth Defense Systems. I personally love the look of this vessel and think that realistically its design makes a lot of sense. Not only that but Frigates have always been one of my favorite classes of vessel.
    Let me know what you think of this warship and check out Fractalsponge for the renderings of this frigate. Be sure to subscribe to the channel if you haven't done so and blast a like on the video, it truly helps. Have an amazing day and may the Force be with you! #starwars #stardestroyer #starwarsfan

    Imagine if teh rebellion had one of these. Dear god. Get a crazy captain on this thing. Pack 4 or 5 X-wings into the hangar, update the shielding and give it a sensor set up that makes the maleficent class frigate envious, and give it an upgraded hyper drive. Maybe switch out the missiles for torpedoes. Dear god the things that could be done. Be like the Johnson vs the Yamato, but in space with lasors.

      But in space with lasers 😂 I love it! Yeah, it’s a really good platform. The Rebels would make the most of it if they ever got their hands on one.

    That’s a gorgeous design, it fixes almost all of the problems with the big wedge shaped Imperial ships, specifically in that it can face the bulk of its weapons in any direction while limiting strikes to vulnerable areas like open ship bays. This design is perfect.

    I always liked Strike Cruisers, but I absolutely love this interpretation. An Imperial-style frigate that isn't just a mini-Star Destroyer is perfect.

    This ship is Fractualsponge's interpretation of the Strike Class Cruiser, as he didn't think the original design fit in with the Imp Navy

    Everyone's appreciating the pretty intelligent weapons layout on this thing, right? Guns on the top, guns on the bottom, guns on the front, and the wedge-shaped hull means this thing can likely fire all of its quad turbolasers and probably 80% of its main armament directly forward and 40-50% directly aft.

    So is this a ship specifically from the Empire at War expansion? I don't remember it being mentioned in the books at all. Still, it's interesting, and believable.

    • @StarWarsOddball

      As far as I know it hasn’t specifically been mentioned in the novels. The Empire at War expansions tend to give us the widest array of vessels. Definitely believable!

    I have a massive soft spot for Frigates in general. The use of the term Frigate in Star Wars is basically as varied as it has been IRL which means it varies a lot.. Generally if a setting has Frigates one is almost certainly my favorite ship class with the Nebulon-B having that slot for Star Wars canon, and the Shashore, Ardent, and Kossak classes alternating the spot for Legends depending on my mood.
    I like this ship but I think its too big for its guns and especially its fighter wing. If you cut it to somewhere in the 350 to 400 meter range while upping the fighter group to a full squadron or two its loadout would suit its size much better IMO. As it stands it has thirty weapon mounts while the 300 meter Nebulon-B has twenty-four. Plus it only has one fourth the smaller and presumably older Frigate's fighter compliment. I just don't see what it has that justifies it being so much larger especially given the massively reduced fighter capacity.

    • @StarWarsOddball
      @StarWarsOddball  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I totally know what you mean, I tend to love frigates especially Halo UNSC frigates.
      But yeah, it seems that the Kontos-class is a little large for its classification and definitely has some areas that could use some adjustments.

    500m and only 6 fighters? This lovely little beast would have a lot of interior space, seems weird to only have 6. The Galdiator class is 500-600 depending on which source you believe and it had 2 squadrons and 2-4 shuttle/gunship size craft. I always wondered as it was an old republic design if that was 2 squadrons of regular fighters, meaning you'd likely get double that or more with tie racks installed. Anyway 6 fighters is not enough IMO.

    • @StarWarsOddball
      @StarWarsOddball  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It definitely has less than it could potentially hold. I find a lot of Imperial vessels are like that haha

    Will you be doing videos on ships from the CIS? We never really get to see any escort/corvette class ships from the CIS navy. I mean, we’ve seen transports like the Hardcell and the C-9799 but we never seen anything in the TV series. Some do exist in video games lime the Sabaoth Frigate, Trade Federation missile Frigate, and others that are fanon so I don’t know if you’re interested in those.
