Hey, could you maybe try doing a video on the Aleph-class starfighter? It's a bit obscure but you're not new to that. Love the content, keep up the amazing work 👏.
The HMP was a straight beast... That gunship was ALWAYS my favorite on the original star wars battlefront 2 space battles! It was soooo much more OP in the real Canon tho but still, ship alone could have won CIS the war if it wasn't rigged by the Sith.
Honestly the Separatist ships would have been perfect for the Rebel fleet, especially the Recusant, Munificent and Providence. I feel like the Rebels missed the opportunity to stage hundreds even thousands of Seperatist ships from scrap yards.
They did have them but in limited numbers The Recusant and Providence probably because they were not as common and any in scrap yards may have been too badly damaged Munificents though were not as uncommon as they were used by private hands such as pirates But at the end of the day man power and also being able to acquire one would be why they weren't as common as other ships
Also worth noting the Empire labeling the rebellion as separatist holdouts was an effective propaganda tool. From a purely military perspective it made no sense for Palpatine to order the CIS military shutdown. You'd likely see way more under the Empire at least early on if public perception wasn't a thing either side was concerned with. Real reason is probably as simple as the rebels were created first but, still an interesting and believable in lore reason.
@@MetaNerdzLore Why do I picture the ship getting into arguments with crew especially B1s. Kind of like in the one Futurama Episode with the ship at the beginning of the episode before the male AI was replaced with a Female one. Not that everything I said was entirely relevant. But I guess the problems with having a sentient ship it might not always want to do what you tell it to do lol.
Hot take: The Recusant is the best designed Star Wars ship (for a realistic setting). As you may know, space isn't completely empty, there are a few tiny particles and atoms floating around. And even these tiny things can cause massive damage to a ships hull at the speeds ships are travelling in Star Wars. That's why it is wise to design a ship to be very long and not very wide, so you can concentrate most of your protection on the front part of the ship, which will then protect most of the ships surface area from incoming particle collisions. For more and more in-depth info about that you can watch Isaac Arthur's video essay about spaceship design.
@@emberfist8347 I tend to disagree with that. While yes, particle shields are indispensable for space travel, they are still energy fields which require a lot of fuel to keep running. I think that's why those capital ships burn those massive amounts of fuel. That's because the most expensive part to operate on a capital ship are shields and weaponry, as engines aren't that energy hungry with the little resistance in space and the rest of the ships systems (like lights, life support, computer systems, etc.) are negligable in the scales we're talking about. We can see this in effect when comparing the amounts of fuel burned by a Venator and Recusant reactor. So you want to design you're ship to be as energy efficient as possible to gain an edge over you're enemy and that's why the shape of the Recusant is superior to most ships in Star Wars.
@@Julia-mx3ki Well most ships are already energy efficient. An ISD’s reactor run all systems at the redline limits and still have significant energy reserve.
@@Julia-mx3ki And you are assuming SW grade armor, nevermind shields, are going to have any trouble with micro meteorites and the like...uh, why exactly? For that matter, how is a ship whose main weapon is a spinal mounted one trick pony supposed to be "well designed" by any rational definition? By and large, ALL CIS ships are garbage, both in design and otherwise. Which is perfectly fine, because like with its ground troops, the CIS embraced the idea of unending swarms rather than individual quality.
I have chosen this late Star Wars video to tell the author the following: you are the best Star Wars channel on TH-cam. You are the only channel for which I have notifications turned on, and I watch TH-cam like most people watch Netflix. So thank you for what you do. I am deeply grateful.
I love that each manufacturer in the CIS have their own naming convention and design elements but still have some semblance of similarity to reflect how the CIS actually operates
Oh man i love so much this Channel, many inner questions of myself were solved due to the huge amount of details you guys put on the videos. Keep the good work, greetings from Brazil 👍🇧🇷
"Light Destroyer" bigger then a venator. But what does it matter when 80% of all ships are cruisers anyway, the terms are made up and the points don't matter.
No, the Dreadnaught version is bigger than a Venator, but the Light Crusier Variant is much smaller, only like 1 kilometer long while the venator was 1 kilometer and 600 meters. The Dreadnaught version of the Recusent was huge at 2,200 meters or 2 kilometers and 200 meters.
I have two theories as to the classification. 1:weight-classes are based not on their length but volume and mass, where the Venator is a battle carrier with both the necessary crew for direct combat and strike-craft, the Recusant is slimmer and has numerous open spaces for spaced armor and vultures, alongside its minuscule crew requirements. 2: much like in real life, it’s not weight or design that denotes classifies a ship, but politics.
The CIS are just so cool, I love hearing these more in-depth breakdowns of their stuff. So is it the munificent or the recusant that had the massive turbolasers on their front? I always thought that was a really unique design choice and something we don't see too much in Star wars either
I personally believe that it could be both: a merchant vessel designed to ward off pirates & such… However, based on the engine layout, I initially thought it was a Techno Union ship, just like the rocket ship looking ships that were on Geonosis. All-in-all, when I saw the various ships in “Revenge of the Sith”, I felt there was a connection with the various Separatist ships & Gallofree as well as Mon Calamari…
I think it was originally a Commerce Ship designed at the Mon Calamari Ship Yards and expanded upon at some point to be able to go toe to toe with heavier ships when it joined the CIS
It is a Techno Union ship. Most of the Confederacy-aligned manufacturers and even a few Republic ones were owned by the Techno Union. Despite the name, it is more of an example of the collaborative nature of the Separatists. It is a Quarren stolen design built using Commerce Guild material under Techno Union foremen by both the Quarrens who stole the design and another shipwright owned by the Trade Federation through a Nimbanese clan.
@@omega13whitelucario95 It was actually using Mon Cal blueprints the Quarren Isolationist League stole after they had their butts handed to them on a silver platter during the First Battle of Mon Calamari. The Commerce Guild supplied the material the Techno Union supplied the labor and the Trade Federation supplied one of the manufacturers.
This is one of my favorite star wars ships. It's the perfect small ship of the line. It's cost effective, requires few crew (resulting in lower maintenance costs and allowing additional mass to be dedicated to armor and weapons rather than crew accommodations), fast, well armed for its size, has an array of defensive weapons, can carry some starfighters without giving up any mass to dedicated hangers thanks to clever use of negative space, makes use of layers of spaced armor for protection, and unlike many star wars ships, actually seems to have a relatively intelligent weapons layout where most turrets have a good field of fire.
I love how skeletal it looks, and that it has a droid brain. I think that if I was in the Confederacy, I'd either want the recuscant or the lukerhulk as a command ship. Or maybe the malevolence because...it's a badass ship
Huge thumbs up for referring to the Mon Calamari and Quarren homeworld as Dac, and also as Mon Cala. So many people call the planet itself "Mon Calamari" and it pisses me off.
I always like the look of this ship. It was a light destroyer so it had a lot of purpose in almost any formation. Though I write some fan fiction on Star Wars in my spare time, and i have been thinking about an idea turning this into a ship that a heavy hitter of a small fleet. Love the design, and I have the complete cross section book so I got all that information on it. Like Torn Lamb said, an underrated ship by far.
This explains a lot . At first I could not understand its build , but now I see how it's functional . Not Pretty but BAD TO THE BONE . More videos like this Please !
The entire seperstist fleet is just terrifying, you get these skeletal ships with essentially ghost or skeleton crews and then as you get closer a bunch of swarm fighters just spew from every nook and cranny like wasps even though all of your data says that most of them don't even have hangers and then you get the droning roar as the engines come to life as the entire formation just advances on you
*My Star Wars OC had a heavily modified Dreadnaught-variant of this as their flagship and spy-command; the Empire suffered when it appeared out of hyperspace 😂*
I used to work on a cargo ship, one of the big ones. We used to ferry around and rent out dewbacks which engineers used to field test their cargo hold tolerances and stowing protocols.
One of my favorite Star Wars capital ships. I've just always enjoyed the look of it for some reason and wished they would have been showcased more in The Clone Wars.
It's funny how quickly I switched from "oof the clone wars movie was worse looking than I remember" to "oh that's the cartoon that's pretty impressive" once I realized it wasn't the live action scene where they crash land on Coruscant.
The reason there isn’t any armored plates over the section near the engines is because there is a large amount of point defense cannons there to defend it so it would just block a lot of the ships fire power
