You are doing amazing in such a short time, the vegetable area has come ahead leaps and bounds, and the deck wow I’m so glad no one fell through the old one, I know the new one will be so much better being double the size especially when friends and family come to visit. Isn’t it wonderful when friends come to help we were blessed when living in Melbourne with a wonderful friend who helped with so many renovations, my hubby is not a handyman in any way. Enjoy because you deserve time to sit and do so before spring arrives. Cant wait to see it all in summer.
    Take care

Lovely to see how you are progressing the garden being just over the water from you with an allotment very close to the harbour in Heysham and a home garden in Morecambe means our growing spaces are very very similar. My main problem at the moment is being able to get out into the garden at all. Working full time means that at this time of year I only have weekends to get things done and frustratingly the weather isn't behaving itself at all, currently its been a lovely day today whilst I'm stuck indoors but this weekend is going to be awful!
Thank you for the link to Mulch Organic, very interesting company and I've been looking for something to work like the really heavy duty weed suppressant fabric that isn't actually just putting more plastic into the environment.

Looking great! I have the Insta pot max and it actually does pressure canning automatically! It was about $100 but there’s also one by Nesco that is much simpler and I believe is only 60 bucks. Although in my opinion broth is really the only thing worth pressure canning, I think green beans, meat and corn are better frozen. If you are wanting to do high acid foods like jams, pickles and tomatoes then all you really need is an enormous stockpot 😊

Glad you’ve made that decking safe! My neighbours have a deck at the back of their house - the full width of the house, but it’s wooden and is an absolute slug and snail hotel. I’m curious of whether you have many slugs and snails, or whether they won’t cluster there because it’s a composite rather than a rotting wooden structure. It’s lovely to see your new garden begin to evolve.

    • @Lovelygreens
      @Lovelygreens  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That's such an interesting thought, regarding slugs. I'll definitely keep an eye out and let you know. We found a few baby slugs under the artificial grass of the old one but hopefully the new composite decking will deter them.

I understand your situation with the building and garden jobs now. We are turning an old building at bottom of the garden into a granny flat, but I have to lose 9 feet by 10ft of garden plus move a greenhouse (12X6) to a new location (result less raised beds) so I reckon it will be a bad move due to conifer trees all around the borders of the garden. But am up for it family first veg patch later.

I got my pressure canner through Ebay (UK ebay but a US seller) - a Presto 23q for not much over £100 including import charges from the US. It came in about a week. I'm also growing Turmeric for the first time!
    Ginger too.
I read somewhere that Turmeric might like afternoon shade in super hot places like mine.
I'm guessing that won't apply to your area?
Altho, here in Texas, the super hot weather means a long growing season...
Will it get hot enough for yours to really take off?
Your greenhouse will be great for it!!
I guess it's like this fine line...
I'm going to be TOO hot.
You're either going to be a tad cool, or maybe you'll be just right?!!
Ok, now I'm going to call Turmeric the Goldilocks of the root crops!!
Either way, it will be an interesting year! ❤️

I'm an avid canner and preserver. I usually have at least 500 jars in rotation just to give you an idea lol I am interested in how many pounds of pressure you will can at, given your elevation? I use an All American 941 which cans 32 pints at a time. I really do recommend it, but when I did my kitchen, I had to install my cooker hood so the canner had enough space. I am in North Florida

In what way is using "Pete" destructive to the environment?

Hi Dennis, peat is ancient plant life that is mined from the soil in giant pits. The land where it's harvested from is utterly ruined as it takes 10 years for 1 cm (0.39") of new peat to form. Peat wetlands are also natural carbon sinks and removing and using it releases massive amounts of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. That's why peat has been banned from use in horticulture in the UK from 2024. No peat pots or peat compost will be available after that. You can learn more about why gardeners should avoid peat here: www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/home/should-sustainable-gardeners-use-peat-moss/2017/05/09/1fc746f0-3118-11e7-9534-00e4656c22aa_story.html

It snows here very rarely. Winter days tend to be around 5-10C (40-50F)

Snow is pretty rare in most of the UK except upper Scotland. I live pretty northerly and we get snow for about one day a year at best and it's normally gone in an hour. However we also have rubbish summers, cold and wet. The temperature only changes by about 5c all year
