Thank You Sir for the mention of my book "Hell Comes To Play" and my years of research into the Benders. I thoroughly enjoyed your presentation on the Benders. I tip my hat to you for mentioning your sources, this is a rarity among podcastors. Growing up in Oklahoma, the legend of the Bloody Benders drifted down this way. I recall first hearing about them back in the 90s when a coworker attended the Bloody Benders days festival. Yes, an actual festival celebrating the Bloody Benders. Don't know if this is still a thing, but it seems like an odd historical event to celebrate with a festival.
What an odd festival.....guess next there's gonna be "Ted Bundy Days" somewhere....food trucks featuring body part shaped food, a VW Beetle car show, a tunnel of love featuring dead.....ummmm..... nevermind about the tunnel of love, it'll be adults only.....free balloons for the kids...

A relative of mine spent the night there with a lot of money on him. He had just sold cattle and was traveling home alone with the money. Spending the night on the trails and roads wasn't very safe either so he sewed the money into his ragged, tattered coat and went to the Benders. He looked poor, had barely enough to pay what they asked for the food and lodging and in the morning went on his way unharmed.
My uncle always used to rant about 'the bloody benders' every time Graham Norton was on TV. I had no idea this was what he was actually on about - I thought he was just a bigot!

They could have hailed from Alsace and at that time it was part of Germany. The region was considered French by the French, the Alsatians less so, because they primarily spoke a german dialect and french as secondary at that time.
Edit: There are three Napoleon Bonaparte that ruled France. (Did you know that Napoleon the first was not born french and did speak french as a second language with a dialect? Beause at the time of his birth and upbringing, Corisca was Italian.)
Alsace-Lorraine! So nice you know of the region! Have family history from there, many greats grandfath r, who arrived on the Mayflower.... also, i first lived in Cherryvale, as well.
Hmm.
@@j.l.hughes-bailey2401 I am from Wurttemberg in Germany not that far from the region and I also have family ties to the region on my mothers side.
I heard that festival was kinda creepy!
Got damm! It's Wednesday! Thank you, Josh.
Any time!
A Great Presentation 👋
Glad you liked it
Their eyes scream I'm crazy as heck 😂😂
Even today we need to bring back asylums 😂 to many people with that same look are running loose 🤯🤯🤯
Gunsmoke did an episode on the Bender's. Matt Dillon fixed their wagon.
Thanks Josh
You bet
Excellent!!
Kate sounds like a real good time until about Midnight. Like that vampire movie with Tarrantino in it.
Awesome thanks josh
You bet!
The picture of the family is disturbing lol..if I approached an inn with those folks milling about I'd run the other way fast 😳
great pic isnt it
Yeh what's that creepy little fella and what's on his head😧🤣
Thank you from Ireland Josh I've been watching for a few years and I've always wondered what happened to the Benders 🍻
Hello Ireland!
Damn thats a pretty wild theory. Coming to America/ Midwest, committing crimes, then going back to Europe is a logical theory too.
The Bender's outcome was not my focus when I first started researching them. Along the way, fact after fact led me to accept this theory as the only plausible outcome of the Benders.
Great story Josh
Thanks Bobby
BENDER'S Mound west of Parsons
Old timers told the story when I was a kid.
Oswego high school 1881
That family looks scared
Right on! Rob Zombie is awesome! Carried on what Alice Cooper and KISS started with the theatrics and I love all 3!
Love the channel first off❤ came across one of your vids a couple days ago. Wish i would of discovered the channel sooner. Ive been an avid reader my whole life, beginning before i started school, and it all started with my grandparents collection of Zane Grey books. Now that ive said that bit.....what in the hell is on the little old dudes head??? And is this a real picture of the family?
A relative of mine spent the night there with a lot of money on him. He had just sold cattle and was traveling home alone with the money. Spending the night on the trails and roads wasn't very safe either so he sewed the money into his ragged, tattered coat and went to the Benders. He looked poor, had barely enough to pay what they asked for the food and lodging and in the morning went on his way unharmed.
Hay Josh have you done any videos on The Great Western ? Keep up the good work
No but I did speak about her briefly on the recent Olive Oatman episode
Loved the story
Thanks Michael
Very entertaining.
Thank you
Ty. Enjoyed
24:21 "flowing thru your veins" 😂
Great video
Thanks!
That's one ugly wart.
And so is the thing on it's forehead!😂😅😂
@@katherinethegreat BAAA HAHAHA!....
I thought it was a pop off valve.
The photo used is probably a Halloween photo. Early 20th century costumes make modern costumes look like tea party dresses. 😂
Good evening Josh
Morning!
I hope this morning finds you well.
Interesting story, we had a serial killer family very similar to these here in the UK not so long ago...must be a European thing.
My uncle always used to rant about 'the bloody benders' every time Graham Norton was on TV. I had no idea this was what he was actually on about - I thought he was just a bigot!
Owing to poland being dissolved at that time Russias border was with germany and austria and germany birdered with france french became common as a language in germany russia and austria hungary as a result which suited everyone.
Love the American Gothic family. The old man has a small humunculus growing out of his forehead. The two little girls look like two ghouls, revived zombies or revivified corpses. Momma and Poppa don't look much better. Oh, I hope they aren't relatives of anyone we know, ha ha.
WTF IS coming out of his forehead anyway??? Is it a pipe? Yes! It looks like a "homunculus"! YIKES!!
The show "Quick Draw" did an episode on the Benders. Probably the best account I've seen.
I’ll see if I can find it
I've seen this photo before. I want to say it was a find by Camera Americana, but I could be way off. Interesting storytelling.
You have completely solved the mystery of my neighbor!
Alright! Local history! We don't get much attention, so I'll take it where I can get it.
