    I really appreciate this video. I'm replacing my screen right now and your video is a big help. One thing, though, for anyone about to attempt this replacement: WEAR GLOVES! My screen was delaminated more than the one in the video and that adhesive gets EVERYWHERE and it's really hard to get off. It would've been nice if you showed, or even said, how you dealt with the adhesive, instead of just saying, "I cleaned it up." I'm using a paper towel and just kinda wiping the worst of it off. It's not working very well, so if anyone has a better idea...
    *update*
    I ended up using a microfiber cloth, which left less fuzz behind than the paper towel. And when it came to putting it all back together... First of all, I did it on my desk rather than on a car seat, which makes the whole process much easier. Then I got my Wi-Fi antennas plugged back in, set all of my stand-offs in place, and carefully lowered the cover (with the circuit board) onto the front part. I held onto the black port on the back to keep the circuit board and the metal frame together while I lowered it. Lastly, I very carefully slid each screw into its hole and once they were all in place and I was sure everything was lined up, I tightened them one by one. Great success!

      Thank you for the feedback. We also struggled with getting it off and tried random cleaners and such and didn’t think anyone wanted to watch the struggle as we try to get straight to the point. We ended up using a combination of goo gone and window cleaner with a microfiber cloth. Thanks for watching and glad the video was helpful. Cheers!

    Thanks for the video. Just replaced the exact same screen (8.4" one on Amazon) on my 2017 Jeep Compass, the "new" version of that year. Super quick and easy. We used gloves (recommended by another commenter) because of the lamination goo, and laid the unit in the back (luggage area) for a more flat surface. The hardest or most nerve-wracking part was removing the facing. Your video was spot-on and precisely what was needed to DIY the screen replacement.

    Hi, I have a 2018 Jeep Compass; my screen has had lines running through it since the summer. After the car cooled off, it would be fine; touch is still responsive. Now it is winter where I live, and when I turn my car on the screen has lines on it, and while the touch screen is still responsive you can't see anything until about 30 minutes of the car being on, everything works normally again even the backup camera. Would this be a screen issue or a wire issue? I read somewhere online that it could be a a wire but I have no idea what wires to order just incase. I don't want to open it up and not be able to fix the issue
    Thanks in advance

    • @MobileCarMechanic
      @MobileCarMechanic  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It sounds like the cold is affecting the connection to the screen and when it warms up then the connection is restored. I don’t know what wires it could be, but it would be worth taking apart. Disconnecting and reconnecting wires to see if that restores the connection. It’s a possibility that there could be some corrosion on the pins of the wires/cables and may be a good idea to clean them with rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab.

    I have a 2017 Compass Trailhawk with an 8.4” screen. It’s given me issues for years and I have finally had it. The lcd acts like there is a loose connection or solder. When I hit a bump it’s fine but instantly has lines. I have sat on replacing it since it worked but had lines.
    Now I want to replace it and have had a hell of a time finding the right part. Must 2017’s had the smaller 7” screen and the dealership says $1400 for a new unit plus labor. I think not!

    • @MobileCarMechanic
      @MobileCarMechanic  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The glue you see is the display adhesive that secures the digitizer to the lcd. It helps seal the gap between the glass and the display for better optical clarity. It’s not supposed to turn into goo but given how hot it can get in a car when it’s extremely hot that will definitely weaken the adhesive and melt it.

    Hello, I have a question, my Jeep screen started to turn half black until it stopped, so could that be it?

      You may want to look at taking it apart and then disconnecting and reconnecting ribbon cables to see if that fixes things, if not I’d then recommend replacing the display.

    Question... My Uconnect screen still registers my touch and still works but there is no picture. Is that just the LCD panel that needs to be replaced or something else

      I would try either unplugging the battery, and aux battery if you have one and then reconnecting, or pulling the fuse to the radio to power cycle it. If that doesn’t work it may be a unit problem or screen. It sounds like the radio is still functioning but needs to be reset.

      @MobileCarMechanic like I had to memorize where to tap on my screen to get to my bluetooth to play music. Before that the screen went pink, sometimes white glitchingness and freaking out

      It sounds like the lcd might have gone bad, try the suggestions and let us know if that brought the unit back to life. If it doesn’t then order a replacement screen.

    Will this fix the half black screen issues

      This has been my first experience with this issue so I’m not sure. I’d probably try to disconnect the battery and see if it resets, if not then I’d replace the screen.

      I would recommend reaching out to the store or individual whom you bought the unit from.

    I did the same but my camera is not working. How I can fix that?

    • @MobileCarMechanic
      @MobileCarMechanic  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Was the old camera working? If not then you either got a bad camera or need to see if your getting voltage on the wires that connect to the camera to radio.

      No, I took off the protective film that needed to be removed. Otherwise no cleaning products.
