Thanks for posting. I’m having the exact same problem with delaminating in my 2018 Ram. Now it has a mind of its own and actually dialed a 911 SOS call!

Great Video! I was able to do the repair as per your instructions. I would mention that in my 2018 Ram, there are 2 screws in the lower center console where the base of the full length console needs to be removed in order for the thing to come out. But other than that, you rock! Keep up the great work!
Really good video with commentary that takes a lot of the mystery out of the electronics up front. I could do that now! 2019 Ram with 82,000 miles and 4 years on it and no trouble so far but glad to have this resource available.
My 2018 ram 2500 limited came with this screen. And it did the same thing as yours. Now I know it was most likely from car wash. Thank you 😊. I got my replacement screen from eBay also $135. Did install and your video helped a lot. The only thing different was my truck being limited so moved center console back couple inches. Took 3 extra minutes. Thanks again man!
I highly doubt it’s happened because of the car wash. It just makes no sense……. This is unfortunately very common, my 2018 did it too, screen became possessed doing things on its own. Can’t even listen to the radio now because it just flies thru changing stations. Had to disconnect my phone Bluetooth because it would pick a phone number a dial it over and over lightning fast, lol …… friend thought I was going crazy. I never take my truck to the car wash and don’t use any product on the screen other than a lens cleaning cloth which is barely wet. There’s a problem with the screen to digitizer glue it seems. Should be a recall!

@1dannydean1 , Awesome, ..... hey if ya don't mind lemme know how it goes, .... the install and all. I was told that to do that the seats need to come out...... uggh..... I don't know if any of that is accurate tho.
@loulagro2315 i wouldn't think so. I believe it's just 3 screws for the center part where your cup holders and phone holder area needs to come out. I've the same so we'll see.
@@1dannydean1 , I hope so! I know the screws are underneath the upper change cup or whatever it is, I just hope once those are out, there's enough space at the bottom to lean the panel back enough to allow it to be pulled upwards and clear of that fwd edge of the center console. Not sure if the rear portion of the shift knob assembly/wiring has to be moved aft or not first to clear the frame work behind it? ...... Hopefully it will let you pull it more or less straight up and away and then disconnect that and the heater harnesses etc.......

good job..I work at a dodge dealership & this is a HUGE problem on all 8.4 touch screens.. problem is there is no fans on this unit and it gets super hot & heat will un do adhesives! on my personal truck I actually pulled the dash bezel that you removed & drilled about x6 small holes on the inner Ac vent channel going to both left & right the ac vents .this allowed a small ac vent leak to the back side of the 8.4 to cool it down. so far its working..had the truck new since 2016.
My screen is currently pealing at the top right and now the whole unit plays stations on its on and hit buttons on its on. Any ideas on how to fix this? No updates available on u connect website.
@Johnny Paycheck you can either replace the whole unit or find a replacement screen & replace it your self..there is a TH-cam video of a guy showing how to do this & where he bought the screen.
So pissed I bought my ram 1500; With 13000 miles on it. The sirus did a over air update and Screwed up everything it would black screen then come on, I never knew if backup camera would work. Now it comes on and displays would you like to connect a phone while bouncing between radio stations at a fast pace. I push the x to clear screen and push a radio setting, within moments it's back at it again. I have checked for updates and read info on this. People have had their truck at dealership for long periods replaced the screen ,only to happen again as they drive away. There is a phone number that has a place to report problem. They tell you go to dealer. One dealer said it was a uconnect problem they couldn't do anything. Now when it's on I press uconnect I'm directed to sirius, they want to sell you so sarcasm is what you get. They say take it to dealer. Screw sirius they messed it up and could care less
@@michealtrevino3654 wow that’s crazy, is it still malfunctioning? I called I connect yesterday. They said I was a lil out of my basic warranty as far as miles , but they said sense I’m so close to it they are going to try to order me a new unit as soon as they verify that I’m the new owner of the car. They had me to send in my bill of sale so they can update me as the new owner so I suppose to call them back today to try to proceed with getting a new one on them.
I finally got in touch with u connect. I had to end up taking it to the dealership just to have a repair order in the system. Long story short u connect is paying for the whole bill. Radio should be here tomorrow actually. I didn’t have to pay a dime, even tho I was couple thousand miles outside of my warranty.
My man. I dont comment on videos. Bht you saved my ass soo much money. I was gonna let it go. The dealer said something like $1300 to fix it. Bought the screen and did it with your help. You have a friend in emmmmm
Excellent presentation and from which I and my wife did an install of a new monitor in a 2018, RAM, 1500, Quad Cab, Big Horn, with Auto Trans. There are some differences in the dash trim removal for the 2018 vs the 2017, but another TH-cam videographer filled in the additional info. Looks like the monitor digitizers have an adhesive on them that melts and becomes an issue that I see repeatedly with the 8.4 inch Uconnect system. Dodge now wants $1,700 to replace but we did it with a $360 monitor obtained from Amazon. Thanks again!
Great vid. Much appreciated. Update 11/18/20, I've been in an endless back and forth with Uconnect since I'm out of warranty on my 2018 Ram 3500 due to mileage. So far, they've wasted my time saying it's getting escalated and then they don't even call back. The supervisor admitted it's a common problem but corporate won't acknowledge it (can't affect their 6 and 7 figure salaries after all). In the end, Ram loses as I tell every single person who asks about the truck that between this and the endless other electrical problems, leaking rear cab light, etc, quality control is horrible only outdone by horrible customer service. Last Ram I'll ever buy and I've had many...
Thank you so much for this. I messed the digitizer up when I removed the terrible goo but had a new one from EBay in a week for 50 bucks. Your video saved me so much time and money!
gee, the dealer in manning sc told me common problem. 800$ for a radio, 1 1/2 hrs labor, total about 1200$. imagine that! i reckon i'll try this first. many thanks for this video.
Thank you sir!! You saved me some money! Followed all your steps and the new screen works!! My problem was not delamination but when I started the truck there were only vertical white lines appearing and then the screen went black. This started happening a couple of years ago but the screen would always come back on (after driving for some time) and work the way it should. This time it did not so I ordered a screen from ebay. Yes. Be aware of the spacers between boards and yes take your time. Good advice and great tutorial! 2018 Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn
Love this video! Excellent! 🥰 2018 Ram 2500 Laramie. I've been watching the screen delaminate for a few years. Lately, the monitor has been going CRAZY. 🤪Some other comments used the word possessed....lol That is was it seemed like. Rapid fire screen jumping and beeping through the speakers. It couldn't be turned off either. 😡 I did a quick TH-cam search 🤔and found this video and it was spot-on. 🤑I went to ebay and found a new screen for $117. (ended up being S 02) As for the install, the glue had run down and out of the monitor and was a sticky mess. Also, I had a bit more trouble accessing the monitor than your video showed. I am guessing it was because it is a Larami with a center counsel. I had to remove the upper part of the center counsel where the phones rest. Now this job is completed, working GREAT, and I am very happy. A great big THANK YOU!!! 😀
Nice job. It's worth pointing out that there are metal spacers between the PCB's of the 'motherboard(s)' which are not shown. When you remove the long screws, they may become dislodged if you move the boards around outside of the case. Reassembly can be a challenge for first timers so its best to not move the internal boards around much if possible when the screws are out.
Thanks for the video. Just replaced one and with your video it was super straight forward. Done plenty of screen replacements, but always look for a good video like yours to make sure I know where each ribbon cable is. Your video was well put together and explained. Thanks for taking the time to help others.
Thanks guys for your video-advice it helps me a lot !! I have same problem on my ram 1500 and following your instructions and got amazing result! Right now is brand new radio everything works well!! I very appreciate for your video because win the money my expenses was $150 and 2 hours work but dealer get me price for $700 😢
Very helpful video..thank you!!!! On my '18 RAM 1500, I had one additional bezel dash 7mm screw at back of the lower coin storage area (above lighter) that req'd removal.
@@MJTechChannel The delamination can cause ghost touches, which can make unwanted changes to settings or even call 911! That is also extremely distracting. All the above are safety issues! They need to be sued into oblivion with a class action lawsuit.
@@MJTechChannel Can you tell me why my chipboard has a screw securing it down that the screen fits over? Your screen has a nipple where mine has a hole?
So glad I saw this. I live in Houston TX and came home from a 2 week motorcycle trip to this very problem. The truck stayed in my driveway the whole time. Except mine is cracked also. How I noticed it is it was in bluetooth mode and it kept going back to Aux after every time I would select bluetooth. It got worse as I drove it that day going through everything on the menu and even into settings and changing everything. I then saw that the screen looked funny. I had thought that it was water that somehow had gotten in there while I was gone. I didn't notice the cracks until the next day when lighting was better. I hope I didn't do it as I was pressing harder on screen to try and change a mode.
Great video! 🙌 Thank You. I don’t understand why the car wash would cause this problem though. My 2018 2500 Laramie has delaminating big time. Also, the screen/ infotainment center has started going crazy lately. Jumping all around, asking to text, going through all the items on the screen in rapid fire and wanting to call SOS too. I disconnect the battery for 10 seconds and it “ resets” the computer for a while then it goes crazy again. I will check into a new screen. 👍 So appreciate your teaching video!!!!
Great video replaced my screen in about 1 hour saved about $1400 Only one difference in my 2018 there is another screw in the dash above the plug outlet. Thanks
Wow. It’s all of us.great video. I’m gonna call Ram or FIAT CORP. tomorrow. I have a 2018 Ram 2500 with ONLY 52k miles, with the POS Uconnect 8.4. Glue is melted behind the touch screen as well. Can’t even use my radio or any functions at all. As soon as I start my truck or turn key to run radio pops up and constantly ask “would you like to change your clock settings ?“ I’m thinking absolutely not I’d like to be able to use my radio and other functions Sheez. What a piece of junk. Truck barely 2 years old. How does a manufacturer of vehicles all over the world get away with this? Obviously there’s a issue. Definitely not isolated. It’s with all of em!!! No way this is ok to get away with!!!
My screen is currently pealing at the top right and now the whole unit plays stations on its on and hit buttons on its on. Any ideas on how to fix this? No updates available on u connect website.
LOL I found out about those metal board spacers the hard way, 2 of them got loose but I was able to carefully re-set them in place...after a minor heart attack! Also, upon first power-up my screen didn't work right and the radio wasn't even displaying properly. But I powered down and back up again it everything reset and now works perfectly!
Same thing for me last night. 3 of them came loose. And during my panic I ended up messing up the wifi cable and could not connect it. After another hour of fixing the spacers and piddling with the wifi connection, I put it back without the cord connected. So far the screen looks great. But yeah this guy lucked out with his spacers not coming dislodged.
Thanks for the video! I just replaced the screen in my 2018 Ram 1500. The OEM model touch screen stopped working. This video was a great help! FYI - For those with the center console you will need remove that first.

Thanks for the upload my friend. Found one Evil-Bay from China😬. It was back ordered and had wait a month. It's was over $500🤬 still cheaper than the $1400 the dealer quoted me for an entire unit replacement, not including labor. For those wondering, the model number for the screen in my 2018 RAM 1500 is LA084X01-SL02. My understanding is it is the same for the Nav and non Nav UConnect 8.4 4C. The display is more smart phone quality than the factory matte finish, which I initially like. Not sure how well it'll display once the sun hits it at the right angle though. All that to say this, thanks again to the OP for the tutorial. Makes the job that muck easier and quicker than figuring it out on my own. Thanks for making the youtube community great.
Awesome video. Just ordered the same item, probably from the same dealer, off ebay. I'm doing a 2018 Challenger Scat pack. Same issues are yours but phantom skips too. This doesn't look super difficult. Hardest part actually looks to be taking off the dash piece to get to it. Gonna have to try and not break the dang clips to get it off. Will be using your video, probably this weekend. Thanks again buddy. *Edit- Got it done. Took me quite a bit longer. The spacers did not stay in place and I had to fish them out with needlenose pliers and put them back in, especially the middle screw one. That was a blast. Also, during my panic of the spacer mess, I messed up the WIFI cord and could not get it to connect anymore. I take it since you called it the WIFI cord, it's either used for the wifi hotspot or used to connect to the internet for mopar updates or something. If either one is the case then IDC if it was hooked up or not.
I noticed you said early in the video , that after you took it to a car wash it starting forming. Mine started after a big rain. And I’ve noticed that it’s just water in the screen. Is there a way to just remove the water ?
This is a common KNOWN problem with the first Gen Uconnect radios. It will be covered by warranty and if you do not have a warranty all you need to do is call Ram corporate and speak with the Uconnect team. The condition is called Delamination of the screen. This happened to mine I had no warranty left and they still replaced it at no cost to me. Do not mess with the radio until you have tried these 2 options first otherwise you will be stuck with the cost of replacing or repairing it yourself and the radio is priced at almost 1200 dollars as of June of 2020 when I went to check on mine.
douglasjennings09 literally just got this done today. And the new radio is actually louder. I don’t know if was just me but the other one didn’t get that loud when you turned the volume all the way up.

Thanks for video. I'm having the same issue on my 2018 Ram. The dealership has been dragging their feet on ordering a new one, so going straight to the service manager in the next few days
Thanks brother video was great. Just a note, the 4x4 version of the front assembly has an extra screw on the right side in a little cubby holder there. Mine wouldn't come off until i looked there and saw the 3rd screw.

My 2018 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn a/c blower motor went out and radio LCD screen was delaminating. Dealer wanted $550 to replace blower motor and $1600 to replace the radio. I emailed Ram Customer Care with problem. I was out of warranty period by 6 months but only had 34K miles on truck. Chrysler agreed to cover all costs to replace the blower motor and radio which has to be ordered. I explained that with so many people having documented the same problems that they should cover the costs or do a recall to show that the Ram truck is a good truck and we can have faith in Chrysler to do the right thing

Any update on the lawsuit?.. I'm driving wit a Bluetooth radio hooked up to my phone to be able to listen to the radio.. unbelivable!
good job..I work at a dodge dealership & this is a HUGE problem on all 8.4 touch screens..
problem is there is no fans on this unit and it gets super hot & heat will un do adhesives! on my personal truck I actually pulled the dash bezel that you removed & drilled about x6 small holes on the inner Ac vent channel going to both left & right the ac vents .this allowed a small ac vent leak to the back side of the 8.4 to cool it down. so far its working..had the truck new since 2016.
My screen is currently pealing at the top right and now the whole unit plays stations on its on and hit buttons on its on. Any ideas on how to fix this? No updates available on u connect website.
@Johnny Paycheck
you can either replace the whole unit or find a replacement screen & replace it your self..there is a TH-cam video of a guy showing how to do this & where he bought the screen.
So pissed I bought my ram 1500;
With 13000 miles on it.
The sirus did a over air update and
Screwed up everything it would black screen then come on, I never knew if backup camera would work.
Same issue on my charger... Plus the door panels and center console peeling up..
Thank you so much for this. I messed the digitizer up when I removed the terrible goo but had a new one from EBay in a week for 50 bucks. Your video saved me so much time and money!
How did you mess up the digitizer so I can avoid? Going to attempt this.
@@edwintorres9628 I wish I knew lol! I tried removing the good and it ruined the digitizer.
Glad I found this.... I'm about ready to go Tazmanian Devil on this thing! Thanks for putting this info out there.
Did you have any luck?
gee, the dealer in manning sc told me common problem.
I’m having the white line issues when cold mornings. Did replacing screen fix your issue?
@learningDisabled0098 Yes and currently no issues.
I did a quick TH-cam search 🤔and found this video and it was spot-on.
That is very true haha
Thanks for the video. Just replaced one and with your video it was super straight forward. Done plenty of screen replacements, but always look for a good video like yours to make sure I know where each ribbon cable is. Your video was well put together and explained. Thanks for taking the time to help others.
Thanks guys for your video-advice it helps me a lot !!
I have same problem on my ram 1500 and following your instructions and got amazing result! Right now is brand new radio everything works well!!
I very appreciate for your video because win the money my expenses was $150 and 2 hours work but dealer get me price for $700 😢
Thank you so much! I completed this today on my Ram 2500 2018 and your coaching was spot on!!!
Very helpful video..thank you!!!! On my '18 RAM 1500, I had one additional bezel dash 7mm screw at back of the lower coin storage area (above lighter) that req'd removal.
Honestly thank you so much for this Video! You are helping a lot of people who are willing to try to fix things themselves!
Love the video, still looking for the link to the screen though. Any chance you could drop it in here?
Great video! Same problem, 2018 w/ 32K miles.. they should make this a recall
Absolutely, but recalls are mainly for safety concerns. This will likely not qualify
I live in Houston as well. Were you able to get it fixed?
Dealership said it would over 2k to fix. You saved me alot of $$$. Thank you😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I got the same problem almost paid 1k to fix thanks good video
Great video! 🙌 Thank You. I don’t understand why the car wash would cause this problem though.
My 2018 2500 Laramie has delaminating big time. Also, the screen/ infotainment center has started going crazy lately. Jumping all around, asking to text, going through all the items on the screen in rapid fire and wanting to call SOS too. I disconnect the battery for 10 seconds and it “ resets” the computer for a while then it goes crazy again.
I will check into a new screen. 👍 So appreciate your teaching video!!!!
may I ask you to add the link for the screen ? thanks!
Was this for real? Did u ever get the link?
Great video replaced my screen in about 1 hour saved about $1400
Only one difference in my 2018 there is another screw in the dash above the plug outlet. Thanks
Which did you go with?
My screen keeps redialing my ex wife. SMDH what a mess. 2018 Ram.
I have the exact same problem
@@timh41 hey did u ever find a fix bc mine does I can't even listen to my radio it just changes by itself
What did you replace it with?
No more issues when you remplace the touch screen
Awesome thank you my system looks just like yours did and now it’s doing things on it own lol driving me nuts haha definitely ordering a screen today 👍
How do you know what the part # is for your screen
@@larryacock7464 i ran into the same issue when trying to order it when I called the dealership the next day with my vin to get the part number for the screen they told me I still had the extended warranty when I took it in they tried to install a refurbished unit that would take two weeks or more to get because it’s a frequent issue with these they told me just drive it with out the unit at all till they get it 😧after going back and forth with them I called around doing there leg work i found a new unit at another ram dealership that was 2 days away but they tried to charge me $800 on top for a new one after another day of back and forth telling them half the truck functions off this thing and it would be a safety issue especially with out defrost they finally agreed to install a new one then came the challenge for the techs trying to program the new unit two more days finally after a week And a half i got my truck back 👍 my uncle in-law and my buddy are now going through the same issue one with a honda the other is a Toyota these things are a basket case lol good luck 👍

2019 Ram here in Florida. Just noticed mine delaminating today. Lucky mine will be covered under warranty.
Thank you for explaining this, it was incredibly helpful.
Thanks for the excellent video! Followed your guide and it worked perfectly.
Thank you so much..this video also works with 2018 Ram 2500 Big Horn 8.4 Uconnect 4C navigation...thanks again
I noticed you said early in the video , that after you took it to a car wash it starting forming. Mine started after a big rain. And I’ve noticed that it’s just water in the screen. Is there a way to just remove the water ?
Thank you for this video. Just what I needed to fix my 2018 grand Cherokee.
Thank you for the tutorial. It worked great for my 2018 Ram.
Thanks for the info
They made me pay 100$ deductible for being outside of my warranty . Whatever 100$ better than 1400$ they claimed the radio would cost
@@Lsutiger225 I agree hell I would have paid the 100 if they said I had too

@Johnny Paycheck I know but again with so many people having the same problems Chrysler should agree to pay for the repairs

Hi question after remplace the screen I need to reprogram the stereo?thanks for answer
Does this fix the air conditioning?
Currently going through this. Mine is starting to ghost touch. It’s making sos calls etc while I’m driving. Dodge could care less, I’m out of warranty and apparently I don’t qualify for their “goodwill policy”. The rep said that there isn’t a recall because there’s not enough complaints. Anyways I filed a complaint with NHTSA and hopefully more people do too so they can be forced to fix it.
How do u call the recall or fill any forms?
