Its nice to see the men enjoying time in the kitchen with Paula. She constantly reminds me of times passed when all the guys were in the kitchen eating fish and hushpuppies as fast as they come out of the pan. Memories passed from my mom cooking to now me yelling at them to quit eating until dinner.😊thank you all❤
I have a terrific apple crisp recipe. I add 1/2 cup granulated sugar to my apples which are sliced fairly thinly and about 1/4 cup flour and I add my spices to the apples. Lots of cinnamon and nutmegs and dot the apples with butter. Then I put my crumb topping on and bake. It’s very bubbly and yummy,
I can smell the Apple Crisp all the way in North Carolina. I love seeing Michael in the kitchen with Paula. He tickles me to death. They are a cute couple. Thanks Paula. I am going to have to try this.
Paula did you ever think that if you found Michael’s mothers apple crisp recipe and made it, Michael would still tell you not quite right! He wants you to keep trying so he gets more of your delicious apple crisp! Brilliant strategy 😂😂
Apple crisp with a few pears thrown in is so good. Wish I had a bushel of apples right now. I'd make a bunch of crisps. And the thicker the "crisp", the better! 👍❤
Same here, cooking first then baking would make them too mushy. I always just bake with fresh apples. All recipes I've ever seen is fresh too plus it's faster. I've always considered this a quick dessert! But I loved this video!
I love you so much! When my sons were little we first watched you on the surprise raid a homeowners fridge series.. I forgot the name.. Lol.... If I might suggest... When you make the crumble... Squeeze the crumble in your hands to make chunky pieces to mix with the smaller bits. Also you can take a fork and halfway through cooking... You rake through the topping. It makes it "crisper". Maybe Michael's mom did it this way... Which is also our family's way to make it. Your crumble recipe measurements sounds just like ours... Perfect! Be blessed... In Jesus Name! Again... We just love you!
Back in the day, many many moons ago, lol! My favorite apple crisp was in grade school. I would trade my hamburger for the sweet desert. I couldn't get enough of it. I tried several recipes through the years and finally found one very similar to it. I love the crust also Mr Michael, I made it,and was so impressed. It calls for the crust to be on the bottom and top. If you want the recipe, let me know and I'll get it to you. Love and best dishes!
I never stewed my apples. I just sliced them put them into a pan. Then I put the topping on top and baked the crisp for about 45 minutes. Mine turned out good. I just added vanilla ice cream on top for my boys and they really enjoyed it.
Maybe Michael's mom used dark brown sugar... That would give it a bit of a more distinct Brown Sugar taste. Maybe she used an extra spice, such as cardamom. I really love using cardamom it has kind of a spicy, pepper like flavor. Either way, I'm sure it was delicious! Those were some just initial thoughts of mine.
Think you hit it.....cardamon was a very popular spice back in the day and back then it was was dark brown sugar and only that.....thoughts of molasses also surfaced.....thanks for your feedback!
Love fruit crisp. I vary my spices by fruit used and mix with fruit. I make a generic crisp that is what you had, except no spices, and I use 2x the brown sugar for a more caramelized effect and add a pinch of salt. (It was originally my great grandma's recipe!)
He's like my son - he only eats the crisp part! I don't even cook my apples. Just plop them in the pan with a little water and sugar, then put a double layer of crisp on the top and bake. Turns out great every time!
Hello Ms Paula, I absolutely love your videos, please never stop. I so enjoy you bring us into your home and family, you truly make us feel like one of you clan, lol. I was so excited when you showed your new line of cookware one one of your shows, I have had your pots and pans for more then 10 years and love them. When you showed the new ones I just had to have them, put on Christmas list and hubby( god love him) ordered them for me, unfortunately when I opened the set on Christmas the stock pot had a nick out of the inside bottom 😥😢 and I had to send back. All places I have gone to to reorder says do not know when or if they will get them back. Do you know when the will be available to purchase again? So very much want this set. I don't know if you will see this, but I love your videos, thanks again for keeping g us sane though these pass years

Looks good! The crisps I like are were the Topping is crunchy, sweet and not soggy or limp. I've even made it more like a baked crunchy granola with nuts and then use it as crumble.
Miss Paula, I just have to tell you how much I enjoy your comforting, relaxed manner, and how comforting it is to me to watch you cook!! I’m 39 years old, and have been cooking since I was 7 or 8. I come from a long line of excellent cooks, and it’s amazing how comforting it can be when going through rough times. Especially since I have had the hardest year I’ve had in almost 20 years. I just want to thank you for sharing your gift and laugh with us, and appreciate you from the bottom of my heart! So much love, and best dishes to you!!💗💗💗
We don't do it that way wait slice the raw apples put them in the baking dish in the chopping goes afterwards And it's delicious that's the way we do it in northern Minnesota
Michelle if you are out there watching...please let Paula see Michael's Mom's crumple top recipe for her Pear crisp. The secret really is the crumble top. Paula, I think it looked delish! We made alot of apple crisps growing up. Gramma was the recipe....but seems that no oats were used, flour, butter cut into that flour and brown & white sugar.....always was crunchy. Ate without icecream, cuz why use two desserts when each individually is yummy?
I love apple crisp, I don’t use oatmeal. And that looks yummmm! BTW I use just butter, flour, brown sugar and walnuts or pecans as a topping. They are all good,I’ve never had a fruit crisp I didn’t like.
Good morning there Miss Paula. I’m like Michael, I’m sorry I’m just like him, it’s not the apples that us men love it’s that beautiful toasty brown, about the size of your little fingertip…crunches that’s what we want we wanna eat crunch after crunch after crunch and then may be a little apple and some piecrust. Sorry Miss Paula I don’t know if it’s a guy thing or not but my wife said the same thing…that I love just the Crisp also thought I’d let you know, I’m a Michael as well! My best to all of you and happy New Year 🎈
An old German recipe I have uses about 9-12 cooking apples sliced into cool water with a teaspoon of salt. Then place apples in a 10 x10 baking dish. 1 C. Of white sugar, 3/4 C. Of cold butter, and 1/4 C. Of flour. Combine and mix all 3 ingredients into leaving in crumbles about 1/2 size of a pea. Spread over sliced raw apples and bake at 40 min. At 425 degrees. If your apples are dry, place a tablespoon of water in the sliced apples. The top of the pie should be crisp and sugar crystals showing.
Oh my gosh! That looks soooo good. I'm so jealous Michael, lol. Thank you Paula for something else for me to try to cook. Paula, you are the Rembrandt of cooking.
So that's the secret to a delicious Apple Pie, Crisp, Cobbler.. the stewing down of the fruit... I have 2 frozen Marie Callender's Pie Shells to use before too soon..
could not stop giggling, I'm so certain Mama's and Paula's are delicious. I was wondering what that spout over the stove was that is pretty cool, instead of getting a cup or glass of water it's up above, nice. I can just smell the aroma of the ingredients. good day all of you guys.!!!!
Paula!!! Hubby & I had this this weekend, it is a basic staple recipe in our house in the winter time ❤ My recipe was passed down to me and is called "Mrs. Murphy's Apple Goody", now...I have absolutely NO idea who Mrs. Murphy was in my family but she sure has a keeper crisp recipe 😉🍎☺️
Haha!!! Paula, you continue to crack me up!!! My mother-in-law made the best spaghetti sauce EVER! It had such an unusual flavor. I've tried and tried to get my recipe to taste like hers did and after decades of trying......I still can't get it! LOL She did have a recipe box, but guess which recipe wasn't in it!!! So....I feel'ya pain Sista!!! LOL
I feel you on this one too.... My spaghetti never ever turns out like my mother-in-laws, no matter what I do....been trying for a couple of decades as well. Its a phenomenon i guess. 🤣
@@charitys.3862 I wish I had just poured us both a glass of wine or a cocktail and we could've made it together, but I didn't even think about it back then. She would make quarts of it and freeze it. :)
Love apple crisp & will definitely be trying your recipe! (I use this crisp topping on my sweet potato casserole). Ms Paula, have you ever heard of fixing "dip" for your hot pie or cobbler? My mom would take a glass of milk, a bit of vanilla & 2 or 3 Tablespoon s of sugar, stir to dissolve the sugar & then pour a little over the hot pie or cobbler! DELICIOUS!!
Micheal has lost a lot of weight. I peeled all of mine but I made homemade apple butter. I will take some of mine out of the freezer and make an apple crisp.

So enjoyed this episode. Have Michelle on to make her Grandma's apple crisp. I'm betting she didn't precook the apples/pears.
Exactly! No reason at all not to have the actual recipe if it is that close!
I want you to know I made your meatloaf for dinner and my husband love it
You two are so real and downhome, love that, and It keeps me coming back and watching more videos.
Perhaps Michael's mom used OLD FASHIONED OATS! They make a fantastic topping! ♥️
Paula did you ever think that if you found Michael’s mothers apple crisp recipe and made it, Michael would still tell you not quite right! He wants you to keep trying so he gets more of your delicious apple crisp! Brilliant strategy 😂😂

Agreed, cooking them 1st is unnecessary plus going with the name crisp, you want the apples to be a teeny bit crisp as well, definitely not mushy!
Yumm!! Looks delicious!!! That Michael is a character!!! 🤣
Paula the Apple Crisp they used to make at school had grated American Cheese. It was in the day of Commodity Cheese. This one is to die for.
I love everything apple. It looks great. Thanks Paula
Glad to see Michael and uncle. I so enjoyed watching you and your husband eat the delicious food you just made.

Now those guys were funny.

In the UK we have Apple Crumble. Similar but no oatmeal.
An old German recipe I have uses about 9-12 cooking apples sliced into cool water with a teaspoon of salt. Then place apples in a 10 x10 baking dish.

Those 2 are adorable ♥️♥️.
Sounds wonderful 💜💜💜

This was a fun episode. The banter between Paula and Michael kept me laughing and the Apple Crisp looked absolutely delicious 😋.
Ina Garten’s recipe is a very good one.
Apple crisp sound delicious and yummy
Good video Paula. I also precook the apples as I like them softer in the crisp. Both of you so cute enjoying the taste test. Thank you Paula.
Good job Michael!

Yeah the pot fillers are designed so you don't have to carry a heavy pot of water (for boiling pasta for instance) from the sink to the stove.

I love apple crisp. I like it better than apple pie. It's so yummy!
I make a cranberry apple crisp with orange zest. The topping is the same only I do put pecans in the topping. It’s always a hit.
Looks delicious 😋 and yummy 😋
