This is some of the best commentary ever. Funny, nice, charasmatic, and most importantly being informative while maintaining everything I previously mentioned
So, the commentator mentions how Toad digs the fastest, and the runner corrects him saying that while Toad can pick up items faster, all characters have the same digging speed. But every source I can find seems to agree with the commentator: that Toad DOES have the fastest digging speed. But it seems weird for the runner himself to be wrong on this one, especially considering he's the person who has the number 1 world record in like every category!! So what's going on here? Is it just a common misconception that Toad's digging is faster, and that misconception just gets repeated everywhere?
Definitely trust Coolkid on this one! In both the NES and All-Stars versions everyone digs the same speed. I checked with him about like 20 different things to make sure I understood everything but since Toad is always chosen for those stages, I just made the assumption about digging faster! It turns out he's the faster option just because of the running speed on the horizontal parts, nothing to do with the digging. Not sure why others get it wrong elsewhere, just similar assumptions perhaps?
Runner introduction starts at 0:22

The commentator and runner combo is good.
Informative and entertaining!
Nice chill GDQ.
CoolKid is amazing! And holds all records in all categories, which is impressive for most games, but is out of this world when it’s a Mario game!!
This was fantastic to watch! And coolkid is an excellent speedrunner, I'm glad you had him again in this year's GDQ. :)
I think cool kid might be one of my new favourite speed runners and the commentary was excellent too
Ayyy, master at his job I see :) good run as always. Also, the commentary was top notch!
Had All Stars as a kid for Snes but never played past world 1. So nostalgic watching this 🙂. Shout out to Coolkid and the great commentator 👍
Amazing commentary!
Great run. Thanks for the content!

Wow that was a great run! Great cometary! This is such a cool game because every character really has their own advantages.
Great commentary!
SOOO MANY great games played this GDQ!!!
Great commentary on a great run
Best GDQ run I've seen in five years
My favorite Mario game. Run was awesome!
My mom hated when we played this due to the sand pulls with the screen going up and down making her ill. He makes a joke of the game though.
Awesome run and commentary
Amazing run Coolkid!!!

It's the most common misconception about the game
This is one of the few instances where the 8-bit music sounds so much better than the 16-bit music.
The vine climb during 5-2 *envious Donkey Kong Jr. noises*
Coolkid seems like such a nice guy, cool run
coolkid runs are always sick! :D ggs
Awesome run!

A really fun, chill run.

Sick run!
21:20 That bit was so hard when I was a kid. Who knew you could skip it so easily?
Green Mario??? That’s f*ckin Luigi pal and don’t you forget it!
I seriously had a delayed, "Whaaaaat did he just call that guy!?" when I heard that.
Ah that glorious marathon luck. Where "that has never happened to me before" tends to just happen..
When you hit Birdo with an egg, you can jump over her and pick it up again. You don't have to wait for her to spit another one.
not true
"green mario" how dare you
Such a good run! So fast and so many skips!!!
I wish Nintendo would do more with the Mario 2 bosses. I wanna see Mouser in Mario Tennis or Tryclyde ride a three-wheeled motorcycle in Mario Kart.
Nice run Coolkid
Argick hosting during a Mario run.... arguably blasphemy, but ultimately awesome.
2:00 "GREEN MARIO"
Nice run, and by the way...
ORB!
This guy's good.
Great commentary too.
“Green Mario”
that was fun
Non-trivial digging section
Fear the Toad
Did he say….Green Mario? What….the….hell?

20:15 why did the potion turn in to a floating Key?
So much nicer than NES version
CoolGG!
OOOOOOOOORB
Cool
