I support this idea. I like that they can personalize the inside. I disagree with changing the outside to each person's personal preference. These are traditional. Someone paid for them. It's also cricitical that these communities remain visually appealing so that they'll be more accepted in many communities.

I wonder if you can hang a hammock chair from the roof or hammocks across the room ?

I am currently living in my car now. It is kind of dangerous because it doesn't have airconditioning and I have to leave the windows down while I am sleeping exposing me to the elements and to people who would do me harm. I have a bowie knife hidden under my seat and a heavy wrench but I might not see an attack coming in time. I am looking for a place that I can buy or lease and build one of these huts. I plan to build mine twice the size of those on the video and with a taller ceiling with solar panels and electrical outlets installed and with a more sturdy exterior than the plastic sheeting maybe aluminum siding or something. And it will be painted forest green. With a porch and screen door and windows that open and close.

Where are you going to get the money to buy land and build one of these only larger? Not trying to be cynical, but, make your goals smaller and obtainable. Goal 1: get a stable job. Goal 2: get a bank account to keep money safe. Goal 3: Save money like crazy. Goal 4: start looking for a place where you can safely build your hut, make it mobile, so you may have to start by buying some sort of mobile cheese.. Get my point? Make goals that you can meet or you will get discouraged...

That sounds more like a British Nissen hut. They were used to house people after the second World War. But they were pretty cold in winter and hot in summer- no insulation or air-conditioning. But I wish you good luck in your endeavours.

I would love to be involved in a program that builds these for homeless people. I have been on the streets myself and I know how it is. I also love to build things and work with my hands.

18,000 to build 2 huts? You could make a little village for that much. They used hog panels, plastic, and some cheap insulation. I would assume the wood and doors were donated..

I'm thinking about building something like this but on a larger scale that I can actually live in.

The only problem I see is sanitation and waste issues growing and causing way more concern. As the person is now has a stationary location to live. No long a nomad. Who was always moving sooner or later. Perhaps a village on private property where they have community services would be the next step to evolve.

They receive a spot and some provisions by the charity, St. Vincent De Paul. The program is their "overnight parking program". It's run in coordination with organizations that offer a parking area/place for a hut. Some that do so, say having a presence reduces incidents of trespass/vandalism. A win-win!

They are provided with what they need. You can check out the charity that is helping them, if you wish. See video description.

Force them to keep the area CLEAN and their gifted unit. One of the BIGGEST issue is cleanliness. The homeless leave used NEEDLES (enforce NO DRUG USE OR SALES), THE DEFICATE all over the area of their tents! There are VIDEOS on TH-cam showing such behaviors! The throw their trash everywhere. Its almost like they've lost all civility. Some feel society owes them. So fine, give them these small homes but in return, require some decent behaviors.

If this is promoted as acceptable to the public, then this will be the acceotable housing standard beginning with the homeless, then anyone else who needs housing and eventually we will all end up in them and it will be the norm for those on govt benefits. That is, everyone except the communist ruling class. These are great if the homeless use them temporarily and by their own volition, but not as a solution to the homeless situation.
