I heard about a tiny home community near a residential area and the people living there were all very upset and protesting so maybe this was the only place they could build for now. But yeah, it’s too bad they can’t build it somewhere quieter and safer. Maybe one day.
Me too and I completely disagree with that woman in regards to the park and how she and her family uses it and she would prefer to keep the park what is versus having people in shelters in a tiny home and community where everybody can get the resources in the help they need wow what a selfish individual she is
yes there is already a man in America doing this for people , building them tiny homes but the government kept taking them down even though he was serving Man kind and financing it himself getting people that were in a very vunerable situation OFF the streets

There was a guy years ago who made these for homeless in LA, and the city seized and damaged them. He deserves credit. His videos are somewhere on TH-cam.
Yes. Elvis Summers. Pretty decent number of videos about him. One here: th-cam.com/video/KNaPRPt52Vw/w-d-xo.html It's funny how years after he built them and the city government seized them, this report makes it sound like the city government started the program.

The only way to beat this is do what the Dutch did... stop calling it homelessness and start calling it the "OPEN DRUG SCENE". Call it for what it really is so these people can actually get help. The actual amount of real homeless is a small percentage of people who just want to do drugs. It is a slice of hope for the few that want to stop the drugs.
People do not really understand how beautiful this really is . Really brings tears to my eyes because you wouldn’t imagine how being homeless is extremely depressing and sad.
I mean… I agree a lot of people have misconceptions about homelessness. But I don’t think saying “you wouldn’t imagine how sad it is” is exactly the right way to put it. People know that being homeless isn’t fun and games. The types of misconceptions I’ve seen the most are people saying that homeless people should just pull themselves up by their boot straps and get a job, or that it’s their own fault theyre homeless.

This is so much better than having tents throughout the city, and seems like people can actually get help. Hope LA makes way more of these, the city has been dragging its feet in combatting homelessness for too long
Well, it started out that all that HHH money generated for the job, first went to contractors, who built half million dollars each apartments. That took four years, and now the second try at the well, tiny home TEMPORARY villages, each houses two people, with about a 175 person capacity. There are only two of those now...so that's roughly close to 400 people being housed. And of course, there are the requisite RULES of being able to stay there. Especially since it's a bi gender environment. Some motels and hotels across the state, give TEMPORARY vouchers, but some of these places got so trashed, or were burned beyond habitation, regrets ensued there weren't more standards for habitation. And, without any restrictions or controls on how many people from other states and countries can come here, with no means of support or way of tracing their histories...that's a liability to the safety of others. But a compromise of having ENOUGH to go around. And then, the state can't force the mentally ill/addicted into CARE specific to their needs. So that's an element of people who end up committing crimes, or in some other way, pose a problem that's threatening too and the state is hard pressed to contain that as well. The estimated amount of homeless in Los Angeles alone...is about 70,000. Who you can't MAKE go into shelters or housing where they'd have to have structure and restrictions. So, as pretty as these little villages are, for the next five minutes, that's hardly even a start. The office holders responsible, have been in office for DECADES. They had their chance, and they still aren't cutting it. Never did.

Don't be fooled.. back in 2016 there was a man named Elvis Summers from California who setup a go fund me, he made dozens of small homes for the homeless in LA that cost $1,200 and the government stopped him and made him destroy each house. Now they are trying to play the hero card over a solution that Elvis Summers came up with 6 years ago.
What about a functioning welfare system? No one needs to sleep on the streets if the government would actually care about everyone. Not all homeless people are bad people, some lost their jobs and its the governments job to financially support people who have no financial means to finance an apartment. Less homeless people, less social devision, less criminality. I would be happy to pay more taxes for it. It seems to work in countries like Switzerland or Germany. The people who still want to live on the streets will do it on their own will but at least help the people who want to make a living but cannot due to economical reasons.
It does my heart good to see those in need treated with dignity. Homelessness is not a crime. Getting people off the street is the first step towards improved mental health and financial stability.

That is why the Dutch stopped calling it "homelessness" and now call it the "OPEN DRUG SCENE". because that is what it REALLY is. I'm not saying homelessness doesn't exist and people don't need help.. But the help needs to be geared far more towards cleaning people up. @@ValerieJean757 All of the shelters I stayed in were 30 days, max. I wonder, is this temporary housing? I think sometimes people get too excited about tiny home communities that are transitional housing. Technically, people can stay in transitional housing for up to 2 years, but I was made to leave one after 3 months because I was harassed and assaulted by residents due to my disability. So they decided the place wasn’t “appropriate” for me. I called in a lawyer and everything but I didn’t win. They got rid of me because they didn’t want to be responsible if something happened to me. Often, people are kicked out for breaking rules that are hard to follow or “not meeting goals” they set for you. Also, transitional housing took $1000/month of your cash income, if you had one (work or GA/SSI/welfare). It might be more now. If this is a real housing project you can stay in, then it really is progress!
@margarita brannon Maybe in some cases that is true. However I think the reverse is also true and many times the homeless have been abused by people who should have cared. @@TruckTaxiMoveIt That is rough. I hope it’s not transitional housing. If you have a job or welfare; they took up to $1000/month in cash, it’s probably more now because it was the 90s when I lived in one and I know they still do that. It’s almost impossible to get out of transitional without an under the table or illegal job, which is hard to get away with because they want to know where you’re going every day; have curfews, etc. It would be nice if they did it a different way, but most tiny home programs for the homeless do it as transitional housing. I mean, every shelter I stayed in was 30 days maximum, but sometimes just saving your income for a month gives you more of a chance.

I only agree with a portion of what you say. "People look at homeless with a negative outlook and fail to realize they are just like everyone else". Well no, not fully. Not really, they are not. The negative outlook, isn't unjustified, nor irrational. Most homeless people, have serious problems they are a threat to themselves and others. There IS the factor of addiction and mental illness, and clearly very sick people cannot be left to their own devices. We see what the results of that are. There are empty hospital facilities all over this state, that aren't repurposed to care for the sick in the long term. Those down on their luck, who's financial struggles are due to less work available to them, and less affordable housing, aren't helped by this state constantly allowing a flow of people from other states and other countries to compete for what will be limited resources. And then, you have the criminal element, that is released from prison or jail, or who have always been criminals, and they will prey on the vulnerable. Each category of homeless person, has to be catalogued, and each of them and their problems, addressed appropriately. And so does how many and how much of it, can be effectively and efficiently done? Making a big show of these tiny homes, or the one or two people who got a nice place like this lady...should have been dealt with decades ago. This isn't the first time I have seen the tiny home initiative. It is modelled on successful projects that have helped in other states and in as far away as Canada. They have modified it to suit Los Angeles but its a good idea and it works. They need to get the community more involved and show them that not everyone who ends up homeless is due to drugs or crime. Compassion is what this world needs more unfortunately their isn’t enough people yet with that feeling. Those who do need to spread it just like love. Like the Bible says help others in need.

Why is it that as Humans come together to make a better society, we actually DO, but when we turn to God for anything, randomness ensues? Randomness up to and including all manner of atrocities; Do you ever think about that, or are you so indoctrinated with theology that you have been stripped of your capacity to think clearly about the reality that surrounds you? @@johnarmenta2199 Why so much hate towards our Creator? There are so many comments on this channel and you chose to stop at this one so you could rage against God. God gave people a free will. In order to fix all of mankind’s messes in this world, God would have to override freewill. Let me explain what would happen if He did that. He would have to program us all like a robot. To stop a person from making the wrong choice or make a bad decision, He would have to program all of our decisions into us. Then there would be no crime, no hurt, no pain. You have now lost your ability to think freely though. If you’re programmed you no longer have the choice to hate. This would mean God would have to program you to only love. This in itself isn’t love. It’s a programmed reaction. Love demands a choice. God doesn’t want you to love Him or anyone else because you’re programmed to do it. He wants real authentic love. The hurt, pain, crime in this world is the result of too many people not choosing to love one another. God’s heart hurts worse than yours does as He watches His creation homeless on the streets and going to war with one another. The reason people still worship God today is because God has said, seek me with your heart, soul and mind and I will be found by you. Those of us who seeked Him in this way has found Him, He has revealed Himself to us. God is real and He has asked us to deny ourselves and help those in need. Too many people care more about themselves than helping others and this world is a result of that. Have you given up all your selfish desires and live a life of helping the homeless, the needy?

Give a person a home and a dash of hope and they start to want to better themseves. They can regain a bit of pride in their own self worth which is a massive motivator to living a happy steady life. Well done on the tiny homes project LA.
"GIVE"... Give a person a fish... They will eat now... Teach a person to fish... They can support themselves forever...
I have been homeless many times... I have NEVER been given anything... I have worked hard... To better myself... I am now NOT homeless...
When one is "GIVEN" something... They will only want more... GIVEN TOO THEM...
This is exactly the right way to approach the homeless problem in this country. Well done.
Absolutely we need this everywhere
don t forget , it s only a shelter ....if it is a good base for find the dignity at homeless , i agree , but not for stay all the life in it .
THIS IS CALLED SOCIALISM
AND MORE WILL COME BECAUSE OF IT
What about a functioning welfare system?
It should be a crime. Tired of seeing these drug addicted fucks acting as if they own the public space. Should be 5-10 years per charge of vagrancy.

@@uzzisalomon6230 no they can't. You don't need to parrot points made by morons on Twitter. As well as one point I already made. Many homeless would have homes. They ran away from them. Mental illness is a huge issue tied into the homelessness issue.
100%. That woman just looked like your average citizen who you would see working at your local library, store, or another place of business. But sometimes people are just one paycheck away from homelessness and that paycheck doesn't come.
Thankfully this city and that angel of a man who started this program stepped up to save her and thousands like her. Along with sparing the city as a whole from the never-ending cycle of more and more homeless.
We also need more treatment centers that house the homeless who are medically/ mentally incapacitated and disabled.
Yes, we need that as well.
Maybe that's your calling. Perfect name for it.. Angel Light.
They need detox too and stop allowing open drug deals and usage, defacating in streets, park benches, …..but it is a money maker for Cali….Cali with a surplus budget and billions more from the American rescue act. Those politicians are criminals.
We had those, California shut them all down... Must have been before your time.
Now you're talking. These shantytowns will quickly become cesspools (including literally, for they have no sewage). Babies will be born into them. They're not built to proper code and are crowded together, so what happens when they catch fire? That size shantytown with all homeless people will likely have one or more arsonists in it, or ones who come simply to target it.
God bless all who supported and helped finance these tiny homes. Not only have you given veterans and Americans hope, but your community looks beautiful, and you will be blessed beyond measure. More states should do the same. Thank you so much for your kindness.

Most are not homeless. Most are drug addicts who prefer to not take part in society by choice because the drug is more important. That is why the Dutch stopped calling it "homelessness" and now call it the "OPEN DRUG SCENE". because that is what it REALLY is. I'm not saying homelessness doesn't exist and people don't need help.. But the help needs to be geared far more towards cleaning people up. More police, special jails to clean people up, record wiped if you get clean and then transfer to housing. Do more to stop heroine flooding into the country, punish the countries its coming from, put drug tariffs on Mexico. These are steps if you actually WANTED to end tent cities in America.

@@ValerieJean757 this is not permanent housing, the program tries to get them permanent housing
Regardless of why (can never find out for sure) the homeless should have at least a tiny 8x8 room for shelter and warmth; plus access to bathrooms and showers. Permanently, not just a few months.

This is an absolutely incredible thing that they've done, the hardest part about being homeless is trying to get back on your feet from there. I've been there and when I finally had a place to go it's something you feel so much gratitude for. People look at homeless with a negative outlook and fail to realize they are just like everyone else, but lost their homes, jobs, etc. either one by one or all at once and they need someone to care enough to help them so they can get back on their own. And this probably makes them feel safer as well

It's NOT enough, and never will be, if the problem and it's faucets that starts them, isn't shut off.

The UK had 'tiny homes' installed last year under the overpasses. They built communities. I am glad the USA one also is accepting women. Most women who are homeless experienced domestic abuse. Help more women today!
There they expect to help the people survive. I'm happy to see LA finally embracing a more worldly concept.
No strings attacked ? Bullshit. You should be required to be looking for work or unrolled in school otherwise this is just going to become a permanent dumping ground
@@maybebaby1112 The many who appears to be driving the TEMPORARY abodes said that the idea was to get a safe place where the people could get their heads together and turn down the stress level in order to think rationally about their next steps, rather than just trying feverishly to survive one day at a time. Their next step is to find jobs that would allow them to find a stable apartment. So these tiny homes are seen as sort of halfway houses back to more "normal" lives.

@@Beaheadoeverybody I agree however there are some people with mental challenges that don’t even know what “fixing your life” is. It can happen to anyone and sometimes all they need is just a little bit of compassion and help 😊

Compassion is what this world needs more unfortunately their isn’t enough people yet with that feeling. Those who do need to spread it just like love. Like the Bible says help others in need.

Honestly tents for the homeless are probably more practical since the rich in cahoots with government will eventually find a way to get rid of these tiny houses.

Why doesn't God provide the homes instead of humans? What a lame God you worship. He supposedly has the power to create the entire Universe, know the past, present MAKE the future, and still make time to find your keys when you lose them but he can't seem to figure out how to give everyone a home? Or could it be that there really is no God, and things happen, NOT for a reason, but simply by cause and effect?
Just something to ponder.
It's very disturbing to see the people who are against helping homeless... They are humans . This is a reflection of our society. This is great , I hope to see more in LA ❤️

I think this is wonderful news. I lived in LA for decades. Over the last 5 years the Hollywood area had grown to rows of tents and litter on every other block. I remember when Anaheim was being called Tent City a few years ago because it had gathered a three mile strip of homeless. This could solve a countrywide problem that most politicians avoid because they don't know what to do about it. not to mention, construction is big business.
i remember when they just cleared out that area in anaheim by forcing them out or throwing them in cells…i would love to see the tiny houses in anaheim
And lucky them, it's quite a bit more $$$ to make a tiny house than a regular one per square foot.
