- The plaintiff says the defendant is her daughter, and the plaintiff got custody of her child because of drugs. The plaintiff says the defendant had sobered up until she got with her current boyfriend. She’s suing for a credit card bill and a phone. The defendant says the plaintiff has always been there to pick up the pieces after her mother’s divorces.
The defendant’s was higher than the cost of living 😂😂

I just want to say growing up I understand what the daughter is saying. My sister faults me for having to take me in during my mother's demise. We recently got into it after Thanksgiving and she brought it up as if I owed her for that.

That's what addicts will do. They'll take it to dramatic levels, insist with all their heart they'll pass a test to sell their credibility, but will run away with excuses if someone calls their bluff and holds a test in front of their face. That girl is doing it textbook. I know because I've seen it first-hand plenty of times....

I wish Judge Mathis would’ve taken the daughter’s story a bit more seriously, but I know he has a low tolerance for addicts who lie and disrespect him in his court. That family could benefit from family counseling for sure! The daughter had to have gone through something early in her childhood to make her go from an A student to drugs. Sad case.

That is not what happened her. She was not convicted for anything, nor did she lose the case based on drug abuse (a contributing factor for her behavior. She lost the case because she owed money.

And your case would be lost or thrown out for contempt of court in JM's or any other judge's court. Respect for judges and judiciary system goes beyond respect. It's the law. People have served jail time for contempt of court.

I think JM seems to have no compassion or sympathy for drug addicts. No one is perfect including JM. Who is without sin cast the first stone. A sad case in my opinion.
He doesn't tolerate users who lie to his face about using. I've seen him be plenty compassionate and lead an applause for people who are honest about their addiction, even if they're actively using dope, because he believes it's the first step to recovery and wanting to recover. Otherwise, he has no time for obvious addicts who refuse to tell the truth.
I've been there, done that with my ex when we used to be users together. They're both clearly still using since their answers to simple questions were muddled and defensive. Judge Mathis was smart to ask if the guy was with his girlfriend when she was using because he already knows there's zero chance one would be doing drugs without the other - especially having been together for years. It's simply not realistic. On top of that, they sought to curate their answers to vaguely be limited to weed or spice which is addict behavior when simple answers to simple questions illustrates credibility.

I'm glad the Mother fought for custody of her daughter's oldest child and adopted it. However, she may want to do the same for the current child whose life is in jeopardy!!!

This case could have been handled in a much more constructive manner by the loud-mouthed JM rather than inflaming the situation with name calling, yelling, belittling and telling the mother to stay away.
They all need understanding, counselling and encouragement for recovery of the situation not a biased JM.
There is more to the situation from the daughters testimony that wasn't fully considered for a total solution. they do have to be open to help too. Hope they get it before it gets worse.
They were in court concerning a legal matter. One should choose a counselor for understanding, counseling, and encouragement for recovery. That's not the function of the court system. Judges can refer clients for those services you mentioned, which JM does often. JM's style is not mine, but I am a counselor, he is not.
@@sereneamani1713 A referral or even the mention of some counselling is a perfect example of an opportunity for a more constructive and professional approach toward the end of this case rather than criticism and grandstanding.
Imho, Judge Marilyn Milian from the people's court generally has a rather more balanced approach toward encouraging peace and understanding between plaintiffs and defendants at the close of cases despite the fact its a court case.

I don’t believe for a second the defendants were high on anything. The daughter looks really rough, I’d look really rough on television if I didn’t do my makeup or hair.. I’m 41 with 4 daughters that drive me crazy and stress me out every day, it’s aged me lol.. she either doesn’t do her makeup or didn’t want it done, either way, just because someone looks rough doesn’t mean they’re high. If that were the case, I’m high as soon as I wake up every day. People are quick to judge. I don’t believe the mother, I think she’s playing victim like she has in the past and because JM losses his patience in 1second if someone fumbles their words (they’re probably intimidated and nervous because I would be too!), calls her an addict when she’s not, I’m sure it pissed her off! You never know if someone is an addict or not unless you’ve seen them use and the fact that she said she was 5yrs clean and he’s still yelling, will upset any ex addict! He seems to care so much about addicts but he doesn’t care enough to sit there and accuse them when that alone could trigger them to start using again!! Why on earth would he do that? Why doesn’t he ever give people time to explain what happened? I understand why they didn’t renew the show. He does a lot of good and I do agree with him a lot but when it comes to these kind of cases, I don’t at all. That mom could be a POS and the defendants good people and he just let her win because he judged them.. he could’ve just did something terrible because he judged a person by their looks. That’s not what he’s supposed to be doing. You judge on facts and he didn’t hear any.

Judge Mathis be tripping people up and jumping to conclusions. I don’t like it at all. I’m a stop binge watching his show because he be getting on my nerves. Late legendary people’s court Judge Joseph Albert wapner wasn’t like that at all. He was very kind and gentle. He’d never tripped nobody up or jumped to conclusions. I don’t believe in tough love because I find it to be too harsh and cruel. I be seeing litigants feeling demeaned and demoralized by it. They will become voiceless and powerless.
