Something that should not be overlooked, there are active fans in the back that do get quite noisy even with light workload. I have a watercooled pc which is very silent and would be a downer to have a loud monitor sitting on the desk making all that noise.
@@mishi6525 From what I've read, it seems to be a lottery in terms of fan noise. A lot of people say they don't hear it, while others say that they can hear them spinning up and slowing down randomly, even when not doing anything demanding.
@El Cactuar Maybe you are over sensitive? I never understand when people look for the quietest gaming PC possible. This is a gaming monitor, when do you not have a headset on with explosions, machine guns, swords clanging etc? A PC would have to be as loud as a jet engine for it to bother me over all that. When I'm not gaming, I am listening to music or watching videos, and lastly, an electric hum of fans or equipment is just part of life... central air makes some sound, the fridge might make some sound, cars outside make sound, how do you people who complain over a light fan hum get through life without hanging yourself?
It really is not burn in. It is that the bright pixels loose their life faster and it looks like burn in, but it is due to the fact the pixels don’t age at the same speed.

@@Xfade81 They are both great for what they are designed for. The LG is designed as a television and marketed as such. It also comes in a smaller 48" size and this year LG introduced the 42" C2. The LG is 4K @ a maximum of 120hz which is plenty at that resolution. It also has VRR with Gsync IIRC. It only supports HDMI so no DisplayPort. Further evidence that it's intended as a television besides smart TV functionality. It would be great for console gamers who can sit further back and only need HDMI. The Alienware is QD-OLED compared to the regular OLED of the C1. It's curved and ultrawide @ 21:9 compared to the LG which is flat and standard 16:9. The Alienware support DisplayPort since it's intended as a monitor. It is 3440x1440 and has the higher refresh rate. I don't know the math on the ppi comparison between the two. If I were a console gamer I would probably get the LG, and if I were a PC gamer I would lean toward the Alienware. In Michael Fenixmada's case if I had the money I would probably get both and use the Alienware for PC gaming and the LG for media consumption. Best of both worlds :)
Hey Los, Do all IPS and OLED monitors have the sparkly dots from the matte finish? I returned my M34WQ IPS and got the Dell VA 34DWG because of the sparkly dots. Also please tell me what the top 5 mechanical keyboards are.
Well, they all do have it, but it depends on the coating of how visible it is. The grainyness you talking about comes from the AG Coating, for example on the old PG278Q from 2015, it was very visible and absolutely distracting. But on PG348Q, AW3821DW etc., it's no issue at all. Still, a glare panel is the way to go, but there are only a few monitor that use one, and they are probably no gaming monitors.
I just got this monitor... and the SDR brightness is def nowhere near 600nits... I have an LG 34gp83a-b mounted above and that monitor is so much brighter in SDR ( I believe it's around 450nits). Care to share what OSD settings you had when getting 600nits...? I would love it to get that bright. Thanks
He probably has it in hdr mode with sdr brightness bumped up. This will allow the screen to run in hdr mode with sdr content. It's only a thing on PC. Actual SDR mode is limited to 250nits
Are you positive this monitor has freesync? Can you confirm? I was told it only supports gsync. And it is full freesync, can I use HDR at max refresh rate with freesync enabled?
I did talk about it a little. For me, even when using speakers rather than headphones you don’t really notice it. However, everyone has different tolerance or irritants levels.
Apparently the fan is none existant for gamers, gamers also tend to use headphones for party chat, game chat, and to hear the game as well, so you wont hear the low "hum" at all.
im not one that changes monitor often, like this one i have had for about 7 or so years, tho i still really want this, am i in the wrong, should i not get it if i plan on keeping it?
If you plan to keep your next monitor for 7 years as you did your last, I’d suggest going for an IPS panel. LG 34GP83A-B would be my suggestion, you will lose the deep blacks and the contrast ratio, but you’ll have no issues with longevity or burn in.

So is it 250 nits or 600 nits on SDR, or does it differ depending on individual units ? Because Samsung neo g8 is also out and I don’t know to get this one or neo g8
I’ll be reviewing the G8, but honestly, unless you have an RTX3090, that monitor doesn’t make sense. As for brightness, in SDR you will hit 600 nits all day. Hope this helps!
Does anyone know if a RTX 3080 is capable of pushing this monitor at those refresh rates? I know its 1440 but im not sure how the new tech affects GPU performance.
No. It is not. 70% of AAA games do only 75-90fps on max settings. Of course if you lower the settings you go higher. But still not enough. Thats why I’m waiting for the 4080.
This is nearly the perfect monitor for me, with the only draw back being the low (109) PPI. I've gotten use to 4k monitors which have around 160 PPI. I hope they release a 5120x2160 version.
I bought this monitor partially based on the review. It is the ultimate gaming monitor. However, I am coming from an older multi screen setup with 2 LG 4K 60hz. The drop in resolution for office work (text), is giving me second thoughts now that I've experienced it. But I don't notice the lesser resolution in games, and the color, contrast, speed and wideness really makes it fantastic. There is also plenty of real estate for work, just the text isn't as sharp. I may keep this and get a 4k for work - or return this and try to find the ultimate 4k gaming monitor and use two (I haven't figured out how that desk arrangement will work). I might get use to the text - but just wanted to point that out. That said, I've been gaming for decades and this is the best experience I have had - and I have another gaming PC hooked up to an LG OLED.
This monitor is just too good to give up. Yes text clarity is an issue for office work, both because I'm used to 4k from a PPI perspective, and because the sub pixel matrix is not well supported by windows for text. So I decided to keep it and bought the LG 32 144hz for office work (It's definitely overkill, but I wanted the size, refresh rate and PPI), and use the Alienware exclusively for gaming. It's certainly not the cheapest alternative - but I'm quite happy with both monitors for their specific usage scenarios - and think I'm set for some time.
@@drewhendler158 Yes here the same problem. Which Curved monitor has the best office Work experience ? I want a 34" big screen to handle all the documents and emails and so on. So want text clarity. Do you can help me which points I have to figure out ?
@@romansteinbrenner I ended up keeping this for gaming only and getting a 34 inch 4k LG for work. Not the cheapest option but nice to keep my gaming setup and work setup separate, running from the same PC. In regards to ultrawides, there are some with higher resolution - but I have also read that the rgb stripe on the Alienware is newer so it doesn't play well with desktop text especially when it comes to fringing. You may find that another ultrawide gives you better productivity as well as the immersion in games. All that being said, the Alienware is still the best gaming monitor I've ever seen.
Wow drew, I am Looking for the monitor for the exact use purpose as yours. Mainly for work, and text clarity is very important to me as I use a lot of notion. Would you mind recommending any monitor to Me? And what’s thE LG34 inch model you are using?
It’s an OLED so it’s great for work related stuff. The only thing is that it has a different sub pixel layout than the common RGB which is what windows is optimized for. This can cause text to look fuzzy to SOME people. For me I did not notice it, however, some people say it is unbearable. So I’d say for coding and word this may be great, but personally if I was looking at small text all day, I’d go with a 4K 32 inch panel. Check out the LG 32GQ950-B. I very recently did a review of it as well if that helps!
glad you addressed the brightness. the low brightness other outlets have been reporting have been the main reason why I've been apprehensive about getting this monitor
Got one a week ago, but got black screen problems running it off a 2080ti.....Essentially, when it's on it's great, but getting it to turn on is a problem. You can only get 175hz off display port on the 2080ti and in there lies the problem.
It's exactly same issue for me, except with my lg 27gn950, switch it to hdmi input and my pc got booted fine. I fixed it by turning off compatibility mode on bios (called csm ig), tried to use my DP cable back, and no problem so far, good luck🤞
I had black screen issues with DisplayPort but only when using a cheapy cable. Have you tried using the cable it came with, or a more expensive cable? At 175Hz it’s basically maxing out the bandwidth so not having high quality cable can cause issues. Hope this helps!
"I replace my monitor every 3 years" Me watching with my 14 year old monitor. "thats.. a rather short life". Especially for that amount of money. What are you talking about "if you're spending this kind of money you wont keep it long". I would ONLY spend that kind of money on a display if it would last 10+ years. Are you kidding me?
Same. My main LG UW 38” is 6 years old now and won’t be replaced for another 2 at least; my second rig runs an HP 24” that’s 11 years old and starting to show signs of age. However for me an OLED would be a possible upgrade because I will just take care of not getting burn-in.
I've had this monitor for about 2 months and it's definitely not a competitive FPS monitor. But instead it's an immersive gaming monitor and productivity monitor. The monitor definitely needs a firmware upgrade in particular for that obnoxious, poorly timed, pixel refreshing notification. For some gamers an aim point toggle would be nice. Regarding the user interface, I hate a single input joystick. I would prefer some sort of desktop hotkeys and better (real) software implementation.
@@MegaVoisey .. No it doesn't. It's absolutely not meant to be competitive FPS monitor. That's it. No debate. It's a good immersive monitor. I was taken back by that too, I have a decent income but damn, $1199 (that's is price as of now) I want it to last at least 3 years. I'm actually only looking to get it because I damaged my AW3418DW in my move. Had it 3 1/2 years and likely would have it at least another year if I hadn't, would have held out for like a 3425 in 2024 if I hadn't messed it up.
I don't understand how you could suggest that an OLED, let alone a new QD-OLED, is better suited for SDR? I just want to comment for anyone watching this, if you adjust your settings accordingly and are in a moderately lit to dark room, the HDR experience on this monitor is better than any monitor on the market.
So what is this monitor missing, that keeps me from instantly ordering it? It has no 4K input for consoles, which alot of other ultrawides and 1440p monitors have. It has no sharpness settings, which is almost always needed for consoles, and some blurry games with forced on TXAA/FXAA. These things are dealbreakes for me, so I will be waiting for other brands to release QD-OLED monitors.
This has convinced me to stick with the Asus PG35VG. I was ready for this, but I'll take a pass until I really need to upgrade. Thank you for this awesome review.
The life expectancy might be the only thing keeping me from getting this monitor. Maybe i should stick to ips, im not sure i want to have to change my monitor every three years
Why would someone buy this then "upgrade" within a year? What on earth would one upgrade to, assuming you're not talking about new items for reviews, like actual consumers.
been watching some reviews on this particular glossy screen put to a test, it's not bad at all, And to be completely honest it's even better!. the matte screens in comparison looked a lot worse when the light hit them. I own 2 matte screens and when i game with blinds open the light gets diffused so much that sometimes you can barely see what's going on. Not to mention glossy displays look sharper and are more vibrant. Gonna pick this baby up soon i hope.
You mention that other reviews are stating 250 nits @ th-cam.com/video/9nK_3szYJ8Q/w-d-xo.html . The other reviews are talking about HDR content, which is why they are reading 250 nits. If you don't have HDR enabled in Windows, the monitor doesn't enable ABL. As soon as you turn on HDR, ABL kicks in HARD and it drops from your measured 600 nits to 250 nits. Don't ask me why Dell was happy enough to have full screen 600 nits in SDR mode, but only 250 nits in HDR mode - but that's the reason for the discrepancy. It's one of the reasons that I still manually toggle HDR on when I need it with this monitor, rather than leaving it on all the time.

My monitor gets delivered this week. Love this review, I can't wait. Finally have an OLED monitor. Getting used to OLED TV's it was hard to game full time on IPS. I can't wait.
How long did it take for urs to ship out? Ordered mine a week an a half ago
I purhcased mine from amazon and got it in a few days
What did you do to get 600 nits sustained on a 100 percent window?
Is there a 38” version? 34” is just too small, especially for ultra wide.
Something that should not be overlooked, there are active fans in the back that do get quite noisy even with light workload. I have a watercooled pc which is very silent and would be a downer to have a loud monitor sitting on the desk making all that noise.
I own it, I do not hear the fans
@@mishi6525 From what I've read, it seems to be a lottery in terms of fan noise. A lot of people say they don't hear it, while others say that they can hear them spinning up and slowing down randomly, even when not doing anything demanding.
He mentioned it in the video
@El Cactuar Maybe you are over sensitive? I never understand when people look for the quietest gaming PC possible. This is a gaming monitor, when do you not have a headset on with explosions, machine guns, swords clanging etc? A PC would have to be as loud as a jet engine for it to bother me over all that. When I'm not gaming, I am listening to music or watching videos, and lastly, an electric hum of fans or equipment is just part of life... central air makes some sound, the fridge might make some sound, cars outside make sound, how do you people who complain over a light fan hum get through life without hanging yourself?
Excellent review!
Now I know I need to get some dark curtains, which I keep procrastinating lol
I'm stuck between waiting on the new Samsung OLED G8, this or waiting for the LG OLED 45 inch thats coming out this week
I work in as software engineer and game BF and COD at night, would you recommend AW3423DW or AW3821DW?
I got this a week ago and I love it glad others are enjoying it as well
how lound are the fans?
Nice review. Cant wait to get my hands on this monitor. Sorry if youd answered it already, but I love wallpaper and wondering where you got it.
Is there a similar quality display but not ultrawide?
Question I just purchased this monitor for my PS5 and they added 1440p finally so is this a good monitor for this system?
Samsung OLED G8 is better choice?
Can you do a review on the Samsung Neo G8 to compare? I ended up with this monitor instead of the AW due to resolution. I really wanted 4k
Is this $500 better than the G34WQC? The G34WQC over here is $429 and this one is 1k
Why didn't you mention the downsides of glossy finishes?
12:26 where do I get that background?
It really is not burn in. It is that the bright pixels loose their life faster and it looks like burn in, but it is due to the fact the pixels don’t age at the same speed.
Currently have the LG C1 OLED tv as my “monitor” and I love it. Looking at switching to this as my primary gaming monitor, then wall mounting the LG C1 and using it for consuming media content/console gaming.
Yeah yeah I just came out of microcenter and trust me the tech guys was like the c1 is the best to play game on pc than I tell them about the Alienware aw3423dw qd-oled display and after that my friend with the c1 wants to retun the lg c1 tv 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 its a big difference so don’t say the c1 is good enough if only Suport 120Hz refresh rate so please stop 🛑 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@insanejustice7922 But the C1 was on sale last week for 800 dollars....
@@insanejustice7922 are you 12. The C1 is 55 inch and 120 if more then enough for 4K. No idea why you feel to attack OP with your 32 inch 1440p Dell at double the price.
@@Xfade81 because it’s better than your c1 tv 🤣🤣🤣🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
I keep seeing reviews with the phrase “no compromise”, isn’t 2k a big compromise?
Did you get Dolby Vision working in Windows 10?
Hey Los,
Do all IPS and OLED monitors have the sparkly dots from the matte finish?
I returned my M34WQ IPS and got the Dell VA 34DWG because of the sparkly dots.
Also please tell me what the top 5 mechanical keyboards are.
Mine lg 34gn850 also have it, but it doesnt bother me if im looking straght to display or from normal fov
he litteraly has a video titled "top five mechanical keyboards"
Well, they all do have it, but it depends on the coating of how visible it is.
The grainyness you talking about comes from the AG Coating, for example on the old PG278Q from 2015, it was very visible and absolutely distracting.
But on PG348Q, AW3821DW etc., it's no issue at all.
Still, a glare panel is the way to go, but there are only a few monitor that use one, and they are probably no gaming monitors.
is this still the best oled monitor?
it works well with mac mini m1?
I just got this monitor... and the SDR brightness is def nowhere near 600nits... I have an LG 34gp83a-b mounted above and that monitor is so much brighter in SDR ( I believe it's around 450nits). Care to share what OSD settings you had when getting 600nits...? I would love it to get that bright. Thanks
ya im wondering how/where it got that bright cause i see nowhere else of it reaching that high.
He probably has it in hdr mode with sdr brightness bumped up. This will allow the screen to run in hdr mode with sdr content. It's only a thing on PC. Actual SDR mode is limited to 250nits
I'm looking at the Alienware qd-oled and the Samsung qd-oled. But seeing that it is a glossy screen might convince me to get the Alienware instead 🤔.
would you recommend for ps5
Are you positive this monitor has freesync? Can you confirm? I was told it only supports gsync. And it is full freesync, can I use HDR at max refresh rate with freesync enabled?
+1
You forgot to talk about the fan in the Monitor.
I am thinking about getting it but the fan could be a dealbreaker for me.
I did talk about it a little. For me, even when using speakers rather than headphones you don’t really notice it. However, everyone has different tolerance or irritants levels.
On mine I think I heard the fan once. It was barely audible.
I've had it for three weeks and I have never heard the fan. But I've seen others comment online that they are really bothered by it.
Apparently the fan is none existant for gamers, gamers also tend to use headphones for party chat, game chat, and to hear the game as well, so you wont hear the low "hum" at all.
So between the lg 4k ultra gear 144hz and the lg 34 ultra wide 144 hz wich one you think looks better?
For better color accuracy you probably want the Alienware one. Not to mention more Gabe support 1440 P and it has a higher refresh rate.
4k isn't worth it, ultrawide is better
@@drunkhusband6257 absolutely!
im not one that changes monitor often, like this one i have had for about 7 or so years, tho i still really want this, am i in the wrong, should i not get it if i plan on keeping it?
If you plan to keep your next monitor for 7 years as you did your last, I’d suggest going for an IPS panel. LG 34GP83A-B would be my suggestion, you will lose the deep blacks and the contrast ratio, but you’ll have no issues with longevity or burn in.
@@TypeCTechReviews yeah true, but I have never experienced oled, and really want one with oled AND hdr so this seemed like the perfect choice
I had pre-ordered this on release, got shipping delayed to July, then yesterday Dell moved it again to September. I've just canceled.

You shouldn't have canceled because like 2 days after they did that my 2 were shipped.

Bought mine back in 06/02/22 and not receiving it till 08/15/2022, WTH.
All i want to know is how much money does it cost
Could you cover using it with work stuff like word and coding etc.
I've heard this one has active cooling. How was the fan noise during testing? That's the only thing keeping me from pre-ordering this beauty.
Pre-order? This monitor has been out for a while
I don’t hear any fan noise at all on mine.
worth it for
glad you addressed the brightness. the low brightness other outlets have been reporting have been the main reason why I've been apprehensive about getting this monitor
I wish there was an option for no stand, monitor arms all the way. Other than that looks great, might get one.
wh wouldnt you just buy an LG OLED TV for less money or the same money but bigger?
You would max at 120fps currently. Maybe that’s why but can’t say for sure
TVs have far greater input lag.
38” 3940x1600 please.
While it isn't technically a monitor, I would be curious if you'd be willing to review the OLED LG C2 tv
@@TypeCTechReviews Actually at 8 bit color you can get a 3440x1440 monitor up to 190hz
"I replace my monitor every 3 years"
Me watching with my 14 year old monitor. "thats.. a rather short life".
I’d rather have 12 bits of color at 120 hz personally, 120 hz is still smooth and 12 bits of color is just so pretty.

Why would someone buy this then "upgrade" within a year? What on earth would one upgrade to, assuming you're not talking about new items for reviews, like actual consumers.
Know whats worse than the 'fuzziness' a matte screen gives? The glare that a gloss screen gives.
been watching some reviews on this particular glossy screen put to a test, it's not bad at all, And to be completely honest it's even better!. the matte screens in comparison looked a lot worse when the light hit them. I own 2 matte screens and when i game with blinds open the light gets diffused so much that sometimes you can barely see what's going on. Not to mention glossy displays look sharper and are more vibrant. Gonna pick this baby up soon i hope.
Buying a $1000 monitor every few months is peak insanity. Literally just don't want money.
Will a software upgrade fix the problem?
