    Have had my AW3423DW since April. Despite it's many little quirks I love it. The colours are fantastic and the HDR is amazing too.

    • @KitGuruTech
      @KitGuruTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's great to hear. Do you notice the colour fringing on text? I saw a lot written about it but I barely notice it. Anything to report on burn-in too?

      @@KitGuruTech I can only see it when my nose is basically touching the screen, from my regular posture it's not an issue. No burn-in at all and I game on it considerably. One gripe with my early unit is that the pixel/panel refreshes are quite sporatic and annoying at times. Shame that I can't update the firmware to fix it.

    • @ThrasherEscapes
      @ThrasherEscapes 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KitGuruTech i also don't notice color fringing on this monitor unless i'm uncomfortably close - or, more specifically, not enough to be even remotely troublesome. i spend quite a bit of time on twitch with static elements on screen (and also received the monitor in april). no burn in so far, but i'm really gonna test that 3 year warranty lol.

      @@KitGuruTech I don't notice it at all, especially in gaming. The only way I can see it is if I'm reading an article or something and if I am leaning in closely. Otherwise it's a nonissue

    I just ordered the newly updated version of this monitor yesterday. Can’t wait to get it. I’ve been waiting for a chance to play on a high performance OLED display and finally pulled the trigger. It really couldn’t be any more perfect for me because I’ve been using my LG 34GK950F curved ultrawide for the last 3 years and it’s been great. This new Alienware monitor is the same aspect ratio, same curvature and same resolution as my current LG monitor but with next level display technology and an even faster refresh rate. It’s basically a perfect upgrade. I also love the overall design. My LG looks good and all but it’s not nearly as slick looking as the Alienware. The newer version, the one I got, is all black rather than that matte white finish and it looks incredible. I think both finishes look great but I’m glad they switched to black for the updated model.

    • @SnakeSkinz
      @SnakeSkinz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just make sure you know the update version is just one that supports Freesync instead of G-Sync. So as long as you don't have a Nvidia graphics card, you're good

      @@dak8710 Every game I personally play supports it. I would say most modern games do, except indie games which is a bummer. I will say however, whenever I play emulators or anything else in 16:9, it’s still an awesome experience. You get so immersed in the colors that’s you don’t even see the borders. It also helps that when a portion of the screen goes black, it TRULY goes black. It’s an amazing experience.

    The burn-in prevention is a really cool feature using the redundant pixels around the edge of the screen to shift the image. I used an OLED for exclusively playing Grand Turismo and the gear shift burned into the screen after about 18 months.

    With the overshooting at 175hz is it the control electronics are not up to scratch or is it a physical panel limitation being hit? Could it be fixed by a firmware update?

    • @TuljoOobik

    The most unfortunate thing about this monitor for me (so far) is the fact Dell won't be providing firmware updates. The newer units do ship with updated fw, but earlier units such as mine can't be updated. This isn't a 4k monitor. This is 1440p, and it's in 21:9 ratio. A good amount of modern games have support for it that doesn't stretch it, but others you may need mods like Flawless Wide-screen

    OK so I just wanted to say that we now have another Alienware AW3423DWF to look forward to. Its releasing to the USA on Nov 3. It has some cut down specs and hardware with a $200 cheaper price tag. Its more of a gamer friendly version. You loose the Nvidia V-sync but get the AMD Freesync Pro. You also loose some noise and heat generated by the V-sync and its fan. You loose 10 nhz off the top so its down to 165mhz but you get 10bit DP. The White is gone on the DWF replaced by a now black housing with less RGB which is fine by me. Anyway you now have two choices from Alienware. DWF @ $1099 and DW @ $1299.

      I like to also hook my laptop up to my monitor for work, and it's just kind of annoying you can't use the monitor at its advertised specs if you're using the HDMI port. Don't see why they didn't just put a HDMI 2.1 port in there, but it seems to be a common trend in the monitor market currently (monitors with only HDMI 2.0 that doesn't support their full specs).

    Blacks don't look grey. I own the display, not an issue. The anti-glare coating is the same purple hue coating you have on OLED televisions, and guess what, no one says LG televisions look "Grey" when displaying black. Fake news strikes again.
    There is no text fringing. I can right now take my phone, and take a picture of my AW3423DW, and then go my secondary ViewSonic IPS monitor, take a picture close up, and then go to my third VA Samsung monitor, take a picture close up, and all 3 will show text fringing. No one uses their display literal inches from their face. I am easily 22-30 inches from my AW3423DW and there is no visual fringing. Its bullshit. Every single picture of "proof" is a camera held way too damn close to the screen/panel. And yet, do that for ANY type of monitor on the market and you get fringing. Even that stupid germen outlet that initially reviews the AW3423DW. They used a literal microscope to prove fringing. And yet NOT A SINGLE review prior to the AW3423DW had the same treatment. It was the first time they exacerbated an issue for clicks.
    Your pixel response times make no sense. you show 1ms or faster but then when you show the graph, you see 5ms worth of overshoot for full start-stop times. when i tested my aw3423dw using a picoscope 2204a and thorlabs photodiode (15ns rise/fall meaning 0.00015ms rise fall times) I got the slowest pixel response of 0.8ms and that was including overshoot and that was full start to stop pixel transition times. running windows in sdr mode.

    You did a great job with the review.
    however i have heard some people complain that this monitor causes eye strain and head issues, due to not being flicker free (false advertising) + the nature of the oled.
    and also image flickering and small flashes on the grey tone images, and overall poor quality control.
    Oh and also traces of the pimply protective packaging on the monitor matrix itself, which are not removed even if they are cleaned with microfiber with a cleaning agent.
    you can easily check yourself it with your smartphone flashlight.

    I bought and tested the AW QD-OLED for 2 weeks. If your monitor is 400nits or above and you use that Brightness there is a possibility that you will be unsatisfied. Wait till 100% window brightness is minimum 400 nits instead of 240. Don't get me wrong this is the best panel technology on the market, period. I'll be waiting for the 2nd generation of QD-OLED which hopefully comes with resolution and refresh rate increase along side brightness.

    • @JagsP95
      @JagsP95 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You would have to use this monitor so extensively and at peak brightness leaving it on static images for over 6+ hours to cause any real burn in. Not one oled screen I've owned in the last 5 years displayed any signs of burn in even when i would leave a static pause screen for hours on end. Also these things have pixel refresh and come with 3 year warranty anyway.

  • @justanotherlikeyou

    Your criticism of it only having one port that can handle it's native high refresh rate of 175hz is puzzling. Why does it matter? You mentioned that it only has hdmi 2.0 ports instead of 2.1. Again, why does it matter? Perhaps you're thinking of console gaming, but the Xbox Series X and PS5 don't support ultra wide-screen resolutions, so no one will likely be console gaming on this. Your criticism doesn't make sense.

The sections are labelled on the time line so if I go to "anti-gloss" coating why then spend 30 seconds telling me how it's not something you'd normally have to tell me about. Just such a ridiculously verbose, frustrating experience. Will get my tech feedback elsewhere from now on.

    I have this 175 Hz 3440x1440 Alienware OLED (AW3423DW) with G-Sync Ultimate and [I went back to my Acer 165 Hz.] You're regurgitating everybody's nitpicky / nonsensical gripes missing the big picture of this monitor. *It's NOT a competitive FPS PC monitor.*
    I'm interested in the 240 Hz newer LG panel monitors coming out in Q1. I really like the size and the flexibility of curvature, and I've learned not to rely on what others say. So we'll see. I know OLED is capable of 1kHz refresh rates and sub 0.1ms response. However, there's more to it than just those two numbers, in competitive FPS I'm not looking for color accuracy. I'm looking for the SOB trying to hide himself in the shadows of a corner laying down behind some dead dude. So I need total control of brightness, saturation, multiple gamut settings, fast access to settings .. not some crappy thumb stick (ideally a multi-button control panel / external pad).
