    About All In The Family:
    One of the most acclaimed comedy series of all time, All in the Family with Archie Bunker as the irascible, highly opinionated, working-class family man who viewed the world on his terms and his terms only. When not arguing with his liberal son-in-law, "Meathead," Archie took refuge in his long-suffering wife, Edith, who tries her best to understand Archie's conservative ways and outdated beliefs.

    $14,000 for a house in Queens. Those were the days

      Yea but that was in the early 1950's. My parents had a new house built in the New York metro area in the late 50's and it cost them $17,000. I inherited it and I could sell it today for around $450,000.
      In this episode, Archie was offered $35,000 for the house. Today, Archie's house in Queens is worth over $800,000. Which, even after adjusted for inflation, is more than triple what Archie would have paid for it. It just goes to show you how inflated prices have become in NYC proper.

    Funny how here, Archie is interested in moving to California but Mike and Gloria balk at it. But in Season 8, M & G want to move to Cali, but Archie balks at it.

      A matter of timing. Mike was still in school so he'd have to change schools. When Mike was offered a higher paying job in California way later on, it was the right timing but Archie had bought Kelcy's bar and had no interest in moving to California.

      I not only get the the letters, but I get phone calls too Mostly from immigrants who I can barely understand. When I tell them I'm not interested, they push and say 'what if we make you a really good offer.' I say 'fine...you give me a million dollars and I'll sign the papers tomorrow. Take it or leave it.' That shuts them up!

    Mike has a lot of nerve to criticize the house he was living in for free. Sometimes I just want to slap him! I always liked the house though I'd have had that kitchen remodeled immediately and replaced the wallpaper in the living room or painted. The furniture looks shabby even Archie's precious chair. "One man's goose is another man's gander?" He bought the house 20 years ago for $14,000. That would be early 50's, when my parents bought our house in Michigan for $17,000 and it didn't even have an upstairs. Archie got the house pretty cheap.

    • @retroguy9494
      @retroguy9494 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My parents had a house BUILT for the same price as the one your parents bought also in the 1950's. In the New York metro area close to the city. I live in it now as I inherited it. Archie WAS right about quality construction of those older houses. This house is SOLID compared to the crap they build today.
      Archies house DID need a lot of work though. The kitchen and bathroom needed remodeling. As you said, new wallpaper. Replace the carpets. Refinish the woodwork (which was beautiful), etc.

    I love California I would love to move out there. I mean soon too. For a street smart New Yorker, Archie falls for a lot of scams.

    • @retroguy9494
      @retroguy9494 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Actually, it wasn't a scam. At least not for Archie. Mr. Byrd would have actually paid Archie more than the house was worth to move in a black family. He was hoping that Archie's neighbors would then sell to him cheap to get away from the black family and Mr. Byrd would sell those houses to more blacks for an inflated price. It's what is known as 'block busting.' So Archie would have actually gotten $35K for the house. It was Archie's neighbors and his own people that Mr. Byrd was looking to screw.
