I was the Production Manager for the 8 Camera Shoot, which produced this G3 video that we can now enjoy here on TH-cam, this G3 Tokyo Concert took place in Hall A of the International Forum central Tokyo a stones throw from Tokyo station. This was shot in 2005 for a DVD called G3 Live in Tokyo. You can still find DVD copies if you are lucky of the entire concert. They were INSANE guitarists at this show....this I know. I have worked on quite a few awesome productions in my career but seriously this has to be the absolute best... I watched from on stage behind the drums near Guitar World where guitars would be hacked back in tune rapidly during the show. Such a blistering pace on every track these guys performed! Respect is due to G3 for certain awesome musicianship. This track Smoke on the Water holds a special place in my heart as it is on the first Vinyl I ever bought the Deep Purple Made in Japan double album

Petrucci..very fast and accurate in picking (the most handsome of them all too..hehehe!). Vai, full of styles, Satriani, simple but very catchy, and nice to hear.
They all sound equally good yet distinctly unique from one another as they all have their own internal voice on the guitar they have each been developing for so long
But Petrucci is the best at culminating a solo. Knows what notes to play for the song (moment). He plays from the soul most the time. Vai and joe play with little emotion in my opinion but they are gifted none the less.
Satriani is such an incredible guitarist most people don’t even know Steve vai from another planet And they’re still staring at petrucci like “what’s he gonna play next”
They are virtuous, and i love Vai, Petrucci, Satriani, Sheehan, etc.. But Richie Backmore was original on this masterpiece, that We've all played this song.
