Tru-Fire Hardcore Buckle for me. The light as a feather trigger is a pleasure to use. Plus the head having a slight pivot built into it helps with alleviating torque off the string.
Awesome video. A little trick I use for putting more holes in a strap is heat up a nail red hot and push it through with pliers. The holes are nice and neat looking with no frayed material. I’ve had to do it for a few people. Works great.
I love my Trufire Hardcore max. The biggest PT is what you stated. Can feel for the d-loop while still be able to keep an eye on the animal. Also the wrist strap is very comfortable and don’t feel any pinching on the wrist. Now when you release watch the hook and make sure it is completely engaged before you draw back. Mine doesn’t lock in sometimes.
My personal favorite are the Trufire models like the smoke he showed here. I went for the $85 version, I forget the model name. It is a dual caliper spring tension release. The slightly more expensive version I use is more polished and contoured which reduces the Loop wear he mentioned. I absolutely love it! As far as the sear style, or cam style releases are concerned I don’t really like the sudden break of the trigger. It causes me to flinch or worse pre-fire accidentally. With my favorite I simply trained myself not to punch the trigger or anticipate the release. I just anchor, aim, and concentrate on aiming more than what my trigger finger is doing. Like he said 1 thought comes naturally. Just slowly ease into it and like a rifle it sends it down range when it sends it. Form and aim come first!
Great videos man, you've been tremendous help. I'm a newbie Archer been shooting recurve and getting a compound bow, these videos are great for educating oneself.
I agree about the new stan, i want to see it in action from some people doing reviews. There is an index finger trigger release that i feel gets nowhere near the attention it deserves. The scott echo is a superb hybrid style release, very adjustable in terms of trigger tension and travel along with being on a strap to adjust the throat length. I found it to be far more consistent than my trufire hardcore.
Been shooting the spot hog wise guy since I got my bow - at the Bowrack of course- love it. I didn't even bother trying the other ones. Super fast to put-on a off, no noise from buckles and trigger adjustment is setup the same as my trigger on my comp gun so I get the same trigger pull, which makes me happy lol
Can you tell me if you have tried the Spot Hogg Tuff Guy yet? Is there more in length adjustability, some say it’s noisy, overall impression vs Wise Guy. Thanks
Awesome video. Thank you very much. I think I like the hook style. I'm brand new in archery and I'm also in PA. I'm in the only part of PA that doesn't have any type of archery stores less than 1 hour away🤣🤣. Unfortunately our local sport shop closed down😔
TruFire has proven good for me. I use a private label Hardcore single talon. It’s a Blackout Twilight but it’s TruFire. Thank you for this video!!! I learned a lot!
I have that release you have. Well the lil goose. Had it for about 4 years now. Worked great up until today. That set screw backed out on its own over time and I didn't notice it until I got in my stand this afternoon. Release wouldn't hold the string at all. I actually had to use a tooth pick to get it out once I got home cuz I didn't have an Allen key that small. Threw the set screw in the garbage so that doesn't happen again. Not sure if you've ever had that issue or anybody else who has that release have that issue but if you do something you might want to check before you go out hunting so that doesn't happen to you. I was just shooting the other day and it was fine. Still love the release but just a heads up if you have it so it doesn't spoil a hunt for you
I use the TRUGLO Nitrus dual jaw with the BOA strap and it has complete adjustability and there is no play in the trigger and I have it set very light, you should go over some TRUGLO releases
@@InsideOutPrecision thanks for the reply and I was very happy with the release I picked and great video I'd be interested to see comparisons of arrow rests too!
So I'm waiting on two other releases that we ordered at the ATA show. But I will absolutely do a review once I get them! Thanks for watching, good shooting to you?
I use to Use release on recurve the issue is recurve at full draw has a lot more weight on release therefore when trigger sear is released the string still has a lot more force opening jaws of release causing trigger itself to fracture. Tried 3 different releases and same type damage to all 3 of them . Honestly the reason I am getting back into recurve now is they are faster to aquire target and honestly a release just adds more that has to be addressed during the shot. For target shooting recurve I can see a benefit in shoot through riser recurve and a release but need to find a release that can cushion the jaws as they are forced open .
I shoot that Truball Valor release and love it! Haven't had any D-loop wear because of the rounded inside edge on the caliper. It's a bit of a hair trigger, but can be adjusted to be lesser so. Glad it was included because it's one of those ones that I feel doesn't get enough love. I've noticed that mine has lost a lot of that sound you mentioned through use as well. It's a good fidget toy in the field too :D
@@claywallsoutdoors9957 I do. Just tinker with the adjustments a bit to where it feels right. The trigger has a wide range from so light it is dangerous to really stiff.
Got a noob question (Just getting back into archery after being away for 40 years). Just bought a take-down recurve 50 lb. bow. Question: To Release or Not to Release? Will be using this bow for target, and in time for hunting. Thank you!
you need a tab and then you need to bare shaft tune the bow . It is possible to shoot a recurve with a release aid but you will probably run into some clearance issues.
I really enjoy your videos. I have learned a lot by watching. You’re talking about me when you mention too long of a release. Does the “Stan Xtinction” hard (not rope) head fully swivel one adjusted? Thanks again
Thanks for the video. I am a complete newbie. As a check, if I shorten my wrist strap, I need to increase the draw length on the bow. I am worried that my arrow length with be too short. How much length should I leave?
I use a True Fire smoke and the trigger travel is horrible. Having no travel adjustment is a serious downside to that release but it is very affordable and if your used to shooting rifles its easy to get used to.
How do you reset the hook? When I got the Fang a year ago I think I remember just pulling the trigger again to reset the hook. Now I have to manually reset the hook with my finger and I wonder if a spring fell out accidentally.
I'm looking for a release that uses a release of tension. In other words, you apply tension to draw, and relax your hand, or finger to fire. I used one years ago, and was extremely accurate with it. Any ideas as to who is making such a release? Just seemed to make so much sense to me.
Love my Wiseguy, but it is super sensitive (in a good way). When my Wiseguy strap goes, I'll be making a new leather one. My buddy's Scott got so frayed I decided it was too dangerous to shoot anymore. I cut the parts off and made him a new strap that will outlast his archery career and its custom fit to his wrist. Just because it came in the box that way doesn't mean it needs to stay that way. Better yet grab a used one with a bad strap on the cheap and make your own. Custom fit, fraction of the price.
@@michaelflowers6048 haha I know, sorry. Mostly just the shape of the trigfer, length of the body, and ability to adjust tension/travel. Honestly their website could tell you more than I can.

Question - just purchased the wise guy..love the trigger, the feel in my hand and boa strap. However my accuracy is impacted due to the release not being a swivel (like I am used to shooting and more forgiving with my pull angle). Do you have a recommendation on a swivel with a boa strap that has a very crisp trigger like the wiseguy? I called Spott Hog and they said they do not have a swivel setup with the wiseguy trigger :( Help!!!
There are couple things here...first, are you gripping the release shank when aiming? If so, swivel or no swivel, it's going to torque the back of your arrow. Relax your fingers so you aren't influencing the release at all. If you are already doing that, then I'd look at the B3 Hawk or TruBall short n sweet
What release would you suggest for a beginner teen boy with a small wrist? I’ve been looking at the hardcore single hook but also looking into maybe something like a thumb release or like a silverback. Thanks
I like the B3 hawk or spot Hogg wise guy for index style releases. Handhelds are great as well but you need to spend a lot of time blank baling with one to make sure you're getting a clean release. A punch or forced shot with a handheld generally punishes you more than a punch with an index
I’ve got a question on the difference in draw length using a back tension release like the Silverback or a thumb release VS a wrist strap. Would the draw length be shorter or longer using a back tension? Thanks
Stan solex has s pretty good. I went from scott lil goose , then tried a few different ones. Wise guy had a lot of good reviews so i bought it. Comfortable, crisp trigger . However, it was way too hot for me. As soon as i felt my finger on it it would fire. If you like to slap the trigger, not sure theres a better one

It's all personal preference, but I prefer one that swivels. Nylon straps swing around too much when I'm hiking/hunting and can clink against my bow making unwanted noise
Can you help me find a release for my smaller hands/arms? I need something that can really be made short. I’ve got small hands and fingers. 26.5” draw. I’m shooting a trufire wrist release at the moment. Belt loop style made as small as it can go, and it still creeps up my hand. All these releases have trigger travel which is detrimental to accuracy. Gonna try the new Stan. I shoot the Wise Guy now and don't like the trigger travel also after time both mine have developed an audible "click" when I apply tension to the string. Great customer service but they're no Stan.
I have a Stan PerfeX thumb release and have sent it back 3 times because the springs wear out and there's a ton of travel after they do. Something must be wrong with your wise guy if there's trigger travel before it fires, because all the ones I have used don't have any travel that I can feel. Carter actually makes the best release if you're looking for something with no travel, we just don't carry them so no I couldn't review them.
Hi, finally a very easy and direct revew of some good releases..Thanks. Just one question: were did you get that "thing" with the green nylon belt on your bow press? Thnak you (and sorry for my english...)
I found the comment about not having to look down to hook the release to the stringloop interesting. I was born with the kind of eyeballs that move freely in their sockets, allowing me to look down without moving my head. That's a terrible handicap for you to have, especially for bowhunting, to have eyeballs that are in a fixed position. Besides that, you said you can feel the loop with your fingers, so it doesn't require you to look down. What if you're wearing gloves?

By FAR one of the absolute best TH-cam channels for anything and everything archery related! You are super concise and break things down well. Thank you for taking the time to produce such quality content
When you say help do you mean help you be more accurate?? The release itself isn't anymore accurate, in fact the wise guy doesn't have a swivel so it's a little more sensitive to any torque you put on it.. gotta make sure to shoot a relaxed hand with it
i rifle hunted most of my life. personally i really like the wiseguy because it really reminds me of a rifle trigger. i adjust it so it sets on my first knuckle for that reason. i dont think in my case it requires more focus that way, it actually made it easier for me to not think about my release. maybe im wrong idk. im far from a perfect shot haha
And here I was thinking that they're using midgets for wrist strap sizing... I can't seem to find one BIG enough. I'm always 1-2 holes from largest end

When you say help do you mean help you be more accurate?? The release itself isn't anymore accurate, in fact the wise guy doesn't have a swivel so it's a little more sensitive to any torque you put on it.. gotta make sure to shoot a relaxed hand with it
You dry fired at 6:02 !!!!!!!!
i rifle hunted most of my life. personally i really like the wiseguy because it really reminds me of a rifle trigger. i adjust it so it sets on my first knuckle for that reason. i dont think in my case it requires more focus that way, it actually made it easier for me to not think about my release. maybe im wrong idk. im far from a perfect shot haha
Do you have an Instagram??
Yezzir! @Inside_Out_Precision
great video....thx for taking the time to teach
Do you like the wise guy?
I legit have never found a release that's long enough for my finger
i leave my wiseguy slightly loose so it rides down my hand a touch, i feel the same way
And here I was thinking that they're using midgets for wrist strap sizing... I can't seem to find one BIG enough. I'm always 1-2 holes from largest end
Exactly they need to fire that giant they test their wrist straps on
The string
Is this recorded on a different camera than usual quality seems worse
Nope, same camera!
Guessing he can't drive a manual vehicle
