Been saying for 21 years, Dusty cost us that series. Jack McKeon had his best pitchers ready to enter any game at any time. Clement, Zambrano, Wood sat in that bullpen in game 6. He played for game 7 when if we won that night, there is no game 7.

My father, worked as a beat reporter/ news director for the old AM 1000 radio station in Chicago, as well as AM 780, WBBM. His radio name is Mike Scott, he covered Chicago sports(mostly Bulls & Cubs) in the mid-late ‘90’s. By the 2000’s, he had switched to covering local politics, but he was still relatively well known in Chicago. My family’s last name is Baartman, obviously my name has one more a than Steve’s last name. However, this didn’t stop angry Cubs fans from calling my mother on our HOME PHONE NUMBER, because everyone thought my dad was somehow related to Steve & was hiding somewhere! Chicago sports are the real deal.

The cubs did not lose because of bartman, they lost because of a missed ground ball for an error that could have been turned into a double play easily. Bartman is just a scapegoat for cubs fans and I am a cubs fan but those fans back then were moronic. The cubs made so many mistakes in that game. After the bartman situation the game was literally in the exact same spot it was before the incident.

Tony Russo created the era of over using the bullpen which in some way led to the over reliance on analytics. I will also go with the "old school" manager who trusts his instincts and his pitcher. I think it was Jim Palmer who said that it used to be the bullpen was full of guys who weren't good enough to be starters and I hate the "specialist" and the guy groomed to pitch one inning.

MLB expanding not once but twice into the state of Florida has never made sense to me. Florida already gets its slice MLB with the spring training sites. At least the front office with Tampa Bay tries to make it work by putting winning teams on the field but even that is not enough to generate crowds. The Marlins have never raised their self-perception beyond an expansion franchise. They caught lightning in a bottle during the postseason in 1997 and 2003, qualifying as a wild card team each time. Really quirky fact about the Marlins: they have NEVER finished in first place in their division, yet they have two World Series championships.
