I too an a proud owner of an AW3423DWF, which I use for gaming. It's easily the best image I've ever seen. I'm not too bothered about burn in as i spend little time in desktop/Windows, and the of course the 3 year warranty. Outstanding monitor.

Excellent and very helpful review - I am just waiting for my Alienware AW3423DWF to arrive and simply can't wait now :) Very much looking forward to using it . I will run it beside my flatscreen Odyssey G7 28" 4K monitor and should have a great setup then, for both my photographic work and occasional gaming. My i7-12700K PC is running a Palit 4070ti so should easily handle both monitors without even breaking into a sweat :)

Good honest review. Really helped me make my mind up between this and the DW. Good to know that not having G-Sync on this version isn't an issue and that this one doesn't suffer from the loud fans I've been reading so much about. I was also disappointed about the lights but its nothing £10's worth of RGB strips wont fix.
Honestly I think burn-in is a myth. I've had an LG C1 OLED since release that I've used mostly for gaming and I've experienced no burn-in whatsoever. I've also seen videos of testers leaving DVD menus on 24/7 for WEEKs and still no issue. It doesn't sound like something general consumers need to worry about.

I think it's also got to do the brightness level people leave it on, some people leave it at 100% brightness, so the screens will reach their peak nits a lot, which is what stresses the pixels. If you leave the brightness at a more sane level of 50-70 (I see this range mostly), then you'll preserve the pixels much better.

Good tip with the refresh. I also got it few days ago, not full setup still waiting for the new GPU, but I can say Im happy with it even as it is.
I made a big jump from a 2015 model 16:9 1440p 165hz DELL. I'm only gaming and I can say the new ratio for me in games is much better, combined with the colours makes the experience "great again".
I am currently using a 1080 Ti and, even that the old monitor had Gsync compared to this I dont know what I payed for in the past cause I dont see anything missing, losing etc....

The Gsync module is more or less a tuned hardware variable overdrive for LCD panels, and provides more consistent image quality within the Gysnc range. OLED does not have issues with overshoot, inverse ghosting, etc... and therefore does not actually need a tuned hardware variable overdrive module.

I commend you for this excellent review. Very comprehensive. You mentioned that this is a wonderful next generation monitor with QD-OLED and every single review I've seen says how great this monitor is. However, the only one thing holding me back from getting this, as you mentioned, is the possibility of burn-in. No one knows how long these monitors will last. This is basically untested as this barely came out less than a year ago. I hope the monitor's burn-in preventions features truly will prevent burn-in over the long run. For around $1000, a monitor should last a VERY VERY long time, not just a few years.

    • @ronsgamingmoments6427
      @ronsgamingmoments6427  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Boris Thank you for the comment and when it comes to the burn in, it is in my eyes a real issue, as you said $1000 for a monitor it needs to last for many years and it is to soon to know with OLED technology. Saying that on the flip side OLEDS are going to flood the market from the more budget range to high end from all manufacturers meaning the options will be there and the high end trusted panel technology we have currently (TN,VA mainly IPS) will drop significantly so the high end offerings we have now should be brought down to a more budget friendly price. well here is hoping.

I dunno about Dell out where you are, but I ordered a refurb one of these direct from Dell outlet store at around 6pm on a Wednesday, and it arrived at 1pm the next day. So for now I'm gonna say I'm mighty impressed with the Dell shipping service. I'm also mighty impressed with the monitor, that's for sure. Even on games like Hell Let Loose, and Halo, I've seen direct improvements in my gameplay. And absolutely, single player experiences like Cyberpunk and Final Fantasy VII look amazing. For the price, which was around $680 USD, I'll take the 90day vs 3-year warranty. If they're willing to stand behind the screen for that long, then I can take that as faith that burn-in and the like won't be a major issue. I'll just be rigorous about the refreshing and turning it off when not in active use.
Now, as a CAD person who uses Inventor, Fusion, etc I find the color fringing a bit annoying. The chromatic aberration makes the thin edges on the geometric parts just a bit blurry and odd. So I keep my 4k 27" 16: 9 next to this for work where the QD-OLED isn't ideal.

I play Hell let loose, which is a game that has a lot of dark scenes and enemies are really far away/small/blended into the terrain. This monitor has increased my average K/D ratio by at least a third compared to my 27inch IPS. Im not sure what specifically caused this huge increase, but i suspect its the oled dynamic range helping me spot enemies better, the response times helping me track moving targets more accurately, and the aspect ratio giving me better situational awareness. I always bought 500$ midrange monitors before this, but I can never go back. Its actually a tangible pay2win factor.
Oh regarding the oled burn-in anxiety, I thought I saw a special program for RMAs that they were promoting for this monitor. They send you a new one if you report an issue, and you send your old one back when the new one arrives. Saw some reviews say that this was a pretty consumer friendly process, but I havent experienced it myself yet thankfully. Anyways that removed all anxiety for me and I use it like a regular monitor for desktop and work with static elements everywhere lol.

This won't be be my final setup, I was in the market for a new monitor but I'm waiting for the higher refresh rate OLED (240hz) with a 42"-48" screen. That said, Hell Let Loose really does look amazing and I'm also finding heads more simple to find. Might be the larger screen size than anything? Getting 170-180FPS @ 4K on my 3080. Super happy with my Samsung TV as my monitor for now. Really Hyped to get my hands on a good OLED monitor! My TV works great but even at "120hz" it's not close to being as good as my 120hz VA panel.

I've had this monitor for a few days, and it's brilliant. I have now decided to keep it over the ASUS PG27AQDM OLED after choosing the ASUS at first. The ASUS is incredible, but I found it only really good for COD. Other games on it felt too small. This Alienware has more nuanced colours. 8 bit doesn't look any different to my eyes, so I'm not bothered about that. I've always found DELL support to be excellent and fast in the past. You can take a few breaths on burn in anxiety. While it is a real issue my c2 has shown no issues and my qd oiled Samsung tv has not had any as well even with a number of times displaying static images. And while I worry about the c2 more it does have a decent heat sink which if I’m not mistaken this monitor has. Qd oleds though are generally less susceptible to burn in as well and I do believe the panel tech is a scale down of the Samsung panels so it’s a good sign to say that I wouldn’t disregard it entirely and certainly use the pixel refresh, but you can probably take a few due breaths of relief on the burn in worry.

depends how long you display static images. Rtings did a test with OLED TV's and found that it takes so long to burn in you would have to play call of duty 2 hours a day for 7 years to get real noticeable burn in. and that was a 2019 TV, im sure this display will last even longer with the tech it has. That said I still wouldn't use it if I did a lot of any one thing. @@ronsgamingmoments6427 It`s the hdr1000 mode where the issues are. Basically useless. Yeah running the 10 bit. Not a bad monitor especially the high refresh but I feel the picture quality and hdr somewhat off.. Maybe just missing the 4k I don`t know might sell it I am getting the lg 48 ultragear oled now.

@@Insooooooo The firmware update only fixed the tonemap bug with Nvidia so you no longer need to toggle console mode anymore. As for the HDR EOTF tracking, that hasn't been fully fixed. There is still clipping in HDR1000 mode.
