      When did your salary start, in the 10 days before your flight to Germany, when you landed, when you actually started the job? How long was it from your conditional offer date (before background check) to your first departure date to Germany (excluding delays such as no passport)?

      @@A._J_. I had no laps in pay and as for the offer date and the first entry on duty EOD start date it was about a 4-6 weeks of memory serves me. Feel free to reach out to me if you have more questions.

      @@ashliblackford794 Hi! Sorry it took so long to respond! 😬 Medical insurance is the same with the exception that you will typically pay for your visit and then submit a claim for reimbursement. Medical and dental procedures are far cheaper here though. Car insurance we had to get through USAA as no American companies would cover us overseas that we found anyway. Hope that helps. Please ask if you have questions and we will do our best to answer. 🙂

    Amazing, awesome video!! I am headed to Germany next month. Here are a couple things that will answer a few of the issues you mentioned:
    You can access your American memberships and websites using a VPN, like ExpressVPN for example. You can get a google # and use it as your American phone # on an IPAD/tablet for calling back and forth to the states for FREE! Also, don't forget to bring a few german adaptors for electronic devices. COVID testing is typically completed on post once you arrive (within 48 yours I think)?

      @@jenloveszombies1 Hi Jen!
      Thanks for the question. I am currently doing my undergraduate degree with WSU through their global campus. All of my communication with instructors and my counselor are through email or zoom and my classes do not require a set time or day. They are set up in regular semesters and assignments are given the beginning of the week to complete. Usually reading, posts, papers and projects. There is also the choice of three different universities here on Graf as well so you can attend in person, hybrid or online as well through the education center. I chose WSU because of in state tuition and I really wanted to go to this specific school. 😉 If you have any other specific questions please ask and I’ll do my best. Thanks for watching and for your questions!

    Thanks for the video. I'm also a GS employee looking to move to Germany. I lived there as a soldier in 2004 near Graf I was in Vilseck. Is there a way to review or study for the driving test. If you get tested before arriving and have a negative test do you still have to quarantine. Does housing have central air/heat. How much money do you think you're out of pocket upfront before you're reimbursed(car, food, lodging etc.)

    • @DTVDanielTelevision
      @DTVDanielTelevision  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, there is a way to review for the driving test, check out my blog on shipping a car overseas and scroll down to "Driving Test" - www.dtvdanieltelevision.com/2019/11/04/pcs-to-germany-welcome-to-grafenwoehr-checklist-shipping-a-car-overseas/. Good question about the quarantine negative test... not sure about that one. Housing does have central heat (heaters in every room), most have heated floors, but no air. I would plan on saving a couple thousand (2-3K), but you can never be sure because everyone's situation is different (ie: renting a car vs buying a car overseas, amount of luggage you're brining, pet costs, etc..). Hope that helps!

    • @BoiseTDI
      @BoiseTDI 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can actually take the test while in the states I believe. I'll try and find the link. Also, you can obtain your international driver's license through AAA, you just bring a photo, real quick.

    As a civilian employee, do you receive housing assistance when you find a home off post/base?

    • @DTVDanielTelevision
      @DTVDanielTelevision  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As teachers, yes, we do receive housing assistance. I don't want to assume that ALL civilian employees receive this, it all depends on your job and the benefits that particular job provides. However, I'm sure if the US government offers you a position overseas, there will be some sort of housing allowance to go with that.

    • @adamzangenberg185
      @adamzangenberg185 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes we do, and as a civilian we have to stay off post. When I was active duty it’s called BAH and as a GS employee it’s called living quarters allowance or LQA. It will say when you look at the positions.

    Hello! I know this is an old video but I thought possibly you could help. I'm in Germany currently with my partner on unaccompanied orders. We are hoping to make me living here with him work without having to rush getting married. I have applied to some on base jobs. I've tried to look into this but have had a really hard time finding anything helpful. If I get a job on base as a civilian does that grant me permission to live in Germany? Would I need to apply for a work permit in Germany? Thanks in advance for any help!

    • @DTVDanielTelevision
      @DTVDanielTelevision  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Thanks for reaching out. So you’ll want to look for any “logistical support” jobs. Such as anything for AAFES, Culligan, contractor/civil service (USAjobs), etc. Those jobs will grant you SOFA status (like a work permit) so that you can stay here until you’re ready to get married :) But… this also reminded me that I need to make a short video that lists all the logistical support options. I’m gonna get on that 👍🏾 Thx

    Hi! my husband is gong to be a civilian going to Germany, how does LQA work and does it includes utility?

    • @DTVDanielTelevision
      @DTVDanielTelevision  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I'm not the LQA expert but it depends on your husband's job. My wife is a teacher so she gets LQA based on her employee grade level/rank. This is pretty standard with any gov civilian job and it also includes utilities :) Maybe this can clear up some general questions: aoprals.state.gov/content.asp?content_id=160&menu_id=75

    • @adamzangenberg185
      @adamzangenberg185 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      LQA is a lot like BHA the amount depends on your grade and family size, initially you will not receive LQA until you find a place then once you do the paperwork it will kick in and be in addition to your base pay. Hope that helps
