    Many people ask us, "how we've been able to travel all over the world for all these years?" Well, I finally decided to answer that question through an extended YT video.
    In this video, my wife and I go over our PCS to Grafenwoehr Army Base Germany within USAG Bavaria. We go into detail about:
    1) How we got here - 0:51
    2) Applying to teach with DoDDS - 1:33
    3) What we do for work - 3:33
    4) Why DoDDS is an amazing program - 4:28
    5) Starting my own business - 6:25
    6) How to maximize your time as an American living in Germany - 7:50
    To be honest, my wife landed the best "teach abroad job" in the world. She works for the DoDDS: DoDEA Europe teaching program which allows us to live and work in Germany under a Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) with the US and Germany.

    I'm so thankful that I stumbled across your TH-cam channel. I spent all four of my high school years at a DoDD's school in Bamberg, Germany. The teachers there had such a lasting, profound impact on my life, and I still keep in touch with them. Emily, I majored in English for my undergrad based on the love of literature that my high school English teacher instilled in me! I've just applied for a base librarian job in Hohenfels, and I would love to get back to Germany. I look forward to exploring all of your videos. Thank you!

    Stumbled on the video and I found it very informative but I do have some questions about being a English teacher overseas, My husband and I are currently stationed here in Grafenwoehr as well been here for about a little over year now, He is active duty and I’ve transferred into the reserves after being active duty for about 7 yrs but since we have 3 children and it was tough being dual military hence the change, I am half way through my bachelors degree in English and I’m very interested in teaching for a career but I wonder how does it work especially when we are trying to head to Korea next after this duty station and it’s there where possibly I’ll start to teach since I’m still going to school and still trying to get some certifications for another year or so, by then we will be on another PCS window is there any guidance you could give me? On teaching English overseas and abroad while affiliated with the military? Where should my starting point be if we do get Korea next

    • @DTVDanielTelevision
      @DTVDanielTelevision  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Thanks for stopping by the channel! So... my recommendation is to focus on the teaching credential and bachelors degree first. It doesn't matter where you're stationed or located, as soon as you have a teaching credential APPLY! There's no telling who will interview you or give you an opportunity, even if you only put Korea as your location preference. HIGHLY RECOMMEND taking ANY position DODEA offers you (even if it's not Korea). Why? A couple reasons... DODEA is the ultimate overseas teaching experience. The benefits, pay, classroom size, and overall quality of life overseas is incredible. You don't want to miss an opportunity to work with this program, and if you turn a position down, the chances of them calling you back for somewhere else is very very slim. With that said, you can teach English overseas through a bunch of different programs, so I would suggest applying to as many as possible (DODEA first tho). When you get to Korea, apply to work at the nearby schools on base (even if you don't have your teaching credential yet). Like apply to ALL of them through USAjobs. You can still get your name and experience known in the teaching community as a substitute or para professional. This might help once you get your credential and start to apply for a permanent teaching position (they will already know you). There's also the option of being hired as a local hire (which doesn't give you all the benefits as a "normal" hire but it's a start). Are you still with me? Lol. As far as other English teaching jobs, look into teaching kids online (through zoom or skype), I know there's a big demand for English speaking teachers in Korea and throughout Asia. I hope that helps!! Stay tuned for more teaching info on the channel, I plan on re-visiting that topic soon. Thanks!!

    Do you know if you have a chance of being hired without "experience" as a teacher? I just finished my masters degree in elementary education (second career) and planned on applying to DoDEA as soon as I get my teaching license. Also, I do not have any connection to the military, do they tend to hire people that do not have a spouse in the military? Thank you for the video, this was super informative!

    • @DTVDanielTelevision
      @DTVDanielTelevision  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, the short answer is yes, you can apply with little experience but (like all jobs) it will separate you from the rest of the applicants who do have experience. No connection to the military doesn't disqualify you, we have many friends that work for DoDEA with no military affiliation. However, being a veteran definitely helped us, cuz there's a "veteran's preference" that we can "click" on the application. Also, it all depends on what job you're applying for, what's available, and what the schools need at the time. My advice is apply as soon as you have a credential so you're always in the system and then update it as you get more experience. Good luck!

    • @rochellewickwire2286
      @rochellewickwire2286 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, thank you so much for the quick response. I will definitely be applying as soon as I get my credential. I am just waiting on my last class to update and then apply for graduation and last apply for teaching license. Thank you for the information, that does give me a little hope that it is possible I can still get a job even without military background or experience. I know it will be harder but my end goal is to work for Dodea! I plan on getting more endorsements to so it will hopefully increase my chances. Thanks again for the information, and I absolutely loved your video. Your video has really been one of the most helpful in regards to looking at pursuing this career. Thanks!

    Hi! I lived in Germany from the ages of 18-21! I am nearly finished with my BA in K-8. I will officially graduate in June of this year. However, I’m done student teaching in April. Is it possible to apply to DODea with a resume stating an expected graduation date? Thank you!

    • @DudeILoveAlex
      @DudeILoveAlex 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I’m a recent graduate and put my application in this past March. You will need to have graduated and have your teaching certificate at the time of application or else your application will get filed away as incomplete🥵 Apparently once it’s listed as that, it can be realllyy difficult for your application to be found unless a school rep searches for your name specifically. I was trying to apply for a virtual position while i was still in undergrad and had a similar question & this is was a dodds rep told me. Congrats on student teaching & graduation!!

    Does DoDEA hire on teachers in the middle of the school year? I'm going to get my teaching certificate in December so I'm hoping to start a teaching position around that time.

    • @DTVDanielTelevision
      @DTVDanielTelevision  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Typically they interview early summer and hire in the late summer before school starts in mid August. It’s rare to see a teacher come in during the middle of the year, especially if hired from the US. For example, my wife applied in November, got an email for an interview in July, and we were there by early August. It goes quick!
