I remember a Kirby interview from the early 80s when he talked about Darkseid, and his comments have stuck with me since. He pointed out that his Darkseid never lies. Rather, he represents the dark truths in life that we find uncomfortable. I wish other creators got this right about Darkseid.

Well, not much can really challenge the Platonic Ideal of Evil Tyranny that is Darkseid. Hell, in pretty much all the times that he’s “lost” to Superman, it’s because he’s a higher dimensional energy being whose full power exists outside the 3 dimensional world. The planet busting Darkseid that we see fight Superman is only the fraction of his true power that he can manifest into the 3 dimensional world. So yeah, Infinity Gauntlet looks a little cheap but if still has a chance.

JaxBlade It’s not necessarily the initial quality of the films, but rather the time gap it had with the MCU. DC started their cinematic universe in 2013, a full five years after Marvel, and Thanos had just been teased a year prior. They barely had time to tease Darkseid before Thanos made his climactic debut in _Avengers: Infinity War,_ and _if_ DC had managed to bring out Darkseid sooner, there would likely be even more comparisons made by the average movie-goer.
If you’re a comicbook reader, you know Darkseid is VASTLY superior to Thanos. It really is a shame people won’t be able to experience the cosmic existential terror that is DARKSEID.
I've been Marvel fan since i was a kid (Marvel Comics, not the lame MCU) and Thanos is one of the greatest cosmic threats to the Marvel Universe, but there's no way in Hel that Thanos could kill Darkseid with the Infinity Gems.
This. Because of how MCU had grown, any attempt made by DC to introduce new character most likely will be termed as copy by casual fan. Heck even Aquaman was getting labeled as wet thor for no reason. Just imagine when DC tries to put Darkseid, Atom, vixen or TT into movie, people would just term them as copy. This is really sad.

Finally found a detailed study on Darkseid! Thank you! This character was fantastically portrayed by Michael Ironside in the animated series of the 90s. And was the real Thanos well before his take in the MCU only darker. Stopping at nothing to recreate the universe in his image to bring discipline and order. I hope they stick with this motivation in upcoming film portrayals.

I believe there was a Death Battle where Darkseid fought against Thanos and they got into how the thing we perceive as the character is just an avatar for a greater entity of power, which kinda fits into what's being said here.
I like to think of Darkseid as DC’s most ruthless and evil villain. And not just evil evil, like the real definition of evil. Everything I think of Darkseid, I always think of violence in different countries going on, and he’s in the back watching and saying “This is what I want”. Thanos collects all of them and become so powerful that 11th dimensional beings become his puppets, the embodiment of the multiverse get's punched in the guts and falls down in a second, and the begin directly connected to God admits he have no idea what would happen if they fought. The infinity stones really overpower and towers over Darkseid, at the very least from the information given in this video.
ALUCARD you do realize Darkseid has traveled to the MCU found the infinity gauntlet with all the stones had them analyzed and when the analysis told him they only work in a singular universe he discarded it and deemed it worthless. Thanos and the Infinity Stones are bound by the laws, boundaries, and limitations of a single universe. With the stones, anything existing within these parameters is under his unequivocal control. Which means pretty much nothing to a character like Darkseid, whose power transcends universes, and could wink Thanos and all 6 of his Infinity Stones out of existence as easily as you could rip a piece of paper in half.

Fun fact: Every CARTOON version of Darkseid, every single game version of Darkseid, even live action versions of Darkseid are still Avatar's. Because as mentioned before, True Darkseid only exists in the comics. And in a higher dimensional plane of comics.

@Jack Bat As much as I prefer most DC over Marvel, they can barely keep two movies in DCU continuity that make sense together, certainly not a build up to a god. Nolan's Dark Knight wasn't terrible, but def not great. Ledger was best thing in all of DCU w his Joker, I would say that if he were still living. But the "Rozz" al Ghul and many other things not worth mentioning, do not make Dark Knight save entirety of DCU. The JL movie was meh at absolute best and that's being generous.
Finally the word god is being used as its meant to, not like a pretentious punching bag. To be a god is beyond our comprehension, for better or worse. In Darkseid's case, for worse.
YES. Couldn't have said it better myself. Shows and comics/manga and what not all introduce gods just to buff up the hero. I'm not a fan of DC (not saying I dislike it, I'm just indifferent although my favorite is flash) but its nice to know they have a being/s thats actually a full on god, like all others should be. compared to our heroes they should be unstoppable, untouchable and stupid strong

For those who know Darkseid well enough understand that what the heroes see isn't the true Darkseid. Yes, it's an avatar. The real Darkseid is so massive and powerful he'd destroy the universe just by entering it. He doesn't want that. He's a conqueror. The power the heroes contend with is nothing compared to the real deal.
Well my theory has always been that Darkseid exists beyond the multiverse and every single avatar of his is actually scaled to the Universe and the beings in it where he appears. So when Superman got weaker after COIE, he faced a Darkseid who was scaled to him.

Hell, in pretty much all the times that he’s “lost” to Superman, it’s because he’s a higher dimensional energy being whose full power exists outside the 3 dimensional world. The planet busting Darkseid that we see fight Superman is only the fraction of his true power that he can manifest into the 3 dimensional world.
So yeah, Infinity Gauntlet looks a little cheap but if still has a chance.

DC started their cinematic universe in 2013, a full five years after Marvel, and Thanos had just been teased a year prior. They barely had time to tease Darkseid before Thanos made his climactic debut in _Avengers: Infinity War,_ and _if_ DC had managed to bring out Darkseid sooner, there would likely be even more comparisons made by the average movie-goer.
If you’re a comicbook reader, you know Darkseid is VASTLY superior to Thanos. It really is a shame people won’t be able to experience the cosmic existential terror that is DARKSEID.
I've been Marvel fan since i was a kid (Marvel Comics, not the lame MCU) and Thanos is one of the greatest cosmic threats to the Marvel Universe, but there's no way in Hel that Thanos could kill Darkseid with the Infinity Gems.
This. Because of how MCU had grown, any attempt made by DC to introduce new character most likely will be termed as copy by casual fan.
Heck even Aquaman was getting labeled as wet thor for no reason.
Just imagine when DC tries to put Darkseid, Atom, vixen or TT into movie, people would just term them as copy.

Finally found a detailed study on Darkseid! Thank you! This character was fantastically portrayed by Michael Ironside in the animated series of the 90s. And was the real Thanos well before his take in the MCU only darker. Stopping at nothing to recreate the universe in his image to bring discipline and order. I hope they stick with this motivation in upcoming film portrayals.

Everything I think of Darkseid, I always think of violence in different countries going on, and he’s in the back watching and saying “This is what I want”. I think if he was real and saw us kill on another, kill animals, hate each other and all that, Darkseid would smile and want more of it,
I think darkseid and palpatine aren't very different from each other. Both are powerful, sadistic, evil, cruel manipulative, scheming and represent the worst aspects of human beings, specifically with regards to our impulses for control or power

@Jack Bat As much as I prefer most DC over Marvel, they can barely keep two movies in DCU continuity that make sense together, certainly not a build up to a god. Nolan's Dark Knight wasn't terrible, but def not great. Ledger was best thing in all of DCU w his Joker, I would say that if he were still living. But the "Rozz" al Ghul and many other things not worth mentioning, do not make Dark Knight save entirety of DCU. The JL movie was meh at absolute best and that's being generous.

This video is good, I think you should've explained what "Pan-Dimensional" and "Platonic Concepts" are, Darkseid is not just 5th Dimensional, he is not just 6th Dimensional, he is not even Infinite Dimensional, he is literally above that concept of dimensions which I love

That is my main concern. Because Marvel got their Darkseid knockoff on the big screen first... non-comic reading movie goers are going to accuse Darkseid being the ripoff and I’ll tear my hair out hearing it in the audience.

The Chaos Gods doesn't show their true form to the mortal powers so send daemon ( small portion to themselves) to real space in order to spread chaos into our reality. Darksied does similar things like this Anti life equation. How darksied similar to Lovecraftian Horror is he some other worldy threat that heros can't understand. Similar to the fear of the unkown like Culthulu.
There is very little unknown or unknowable about darkseid so the cthullu stuff is a bit of a leap especially since darkseid is outright evil whereas the cthullu mythos seldom has an evil god there usually just far beyond our comprehension
Well Darkseid is obsessed with getting the Anti Life Equation and getting control of free will and HIS will overseeing everything, Lovecraft’s Yogsothery characters on the other hand regard humanity as something on the scale of a microbe or a knat, Cthulhu looks on humanity as something to devour, Azathoth if he were awakened would most certainly blink humanity out of existence along with the Universe as we know it.
Probably the Kirby Fourth World character who reminds me of a Lovecraft Mythos character would be Darkseid’s underling Glorious Godfrey who reminds me of Lovecraft’s shapeshifting god of mischief and evil Nyarlathotep more than anyone else.
