My Dad used to eat here when he worked for Railways in the 60’s. I have eaten here as a kid in the 70’s and 80’s. Always fresh and tasty. Truly homemade food
The owner of the restaurant seems to be a foodie and quality conscious himself. Since he has officially put the board that "the owner of the restaurant eats his food here" Running a restaurant for 3 generations, that shows, why people love to come here and eat food. Very good coverage, by Kunal, such places are a treat for food lovers.
I have been eating over there for 25 years. Same quality, healthy and pure veg. Foods. Ingredients are well chosen, made Pure Bramhmanic ways. Old to dye to eat there. I used to eat this thali for 25 rs. Only. What a joy.
This is my go to place, I am Punjabi, but whenever I want to eat proper South Indian Food this is my Go To place. Food here is pure bliss. Missing this place and food as I have moved out of India, but I make sure to visit this place whenever I am in Mumbai!
it is common in Mangalore to even make long lasting pickles without even a single drop of oil. they make it using boiled salt water. small mangoes are picked and wiped with just a clean cloth. even the white sap that comes out while picking raw mangoes is kept intact as it is supposed to act as preservative by itself. the raw mangoes are then steeped in the brine for a few days. after about 2-3 days when the mangoes become wrinkly, the same brine is used to grind the masala for the pickle which consists of methi seeds, split mustard seeds and lots of dry red chilis and a considerable amount of Hing. the wrinkled brined mangoes are now mixed in this masala paste and stored in sterile jars. lastly the most interesting thing is they roast Raw Cashew seed pods on coal or wood fire till it is well charred and put it on top of the pickles in the jar and then close the jar tight. the oils that come out of the cashew pods is enough to let these pickles last for over 2 years !! the cashew seed pod is a potent antibacterial which does not allow any mold or fungus to develop in the pickle. if you come across a Mangalore store, ask for "Midi upinkayi" Midi means small raw mangoes Upinkayi means pickle. absolutely delicious with steaming hot idlis garnished with ghee. or with simple dahi chawal or with ghee and rice and this pickle-- Oh God I am drooling as I am typing these out !!
@@KhaaneMeinKyaHai , Kunal you should do a tour of Mangalore with your good friend, Kripal Amana. He has showcased some delectable viands and great eateries from Mangalore.
You will never feel bored of eating out here. Really it's a feeling of home cooked food. Not oily or spicy gives comfort both to the stomach and to your purse.
@ nobody prepares all these items at once at home. When eating out if you feel satisfied that the great sign of good vibes. In other hotels no matter how much you spend and eat, it won't satisfy you meaning it's pure commercial.

Hi Kunal, we started going there as a child, when plate Thali was priced at ₹.5.50. We don't know the restaurant's name but is fondly called sada panj wadi Thali restaurant amongst all our friends & relatives. Even our drivers know it by this name. I am talking about early eighties, when idli at Cafe mysore & cafe madras were sold for ₹.3.00 to ₹.5.00.

I'm glad you gave South Indian meals a try. Udupi and Mangaloreans are known for their hotel business, they're indeed very good at it. South Indians are very thoughtful and live by principles.
