The late founder Shri Rama Nayak was a generous person. There were students from Karwar, Bangalore, Mangalore and there were people from South who had come for Jobs. For students who had not received money from their parents he would request them to continue to frequent his hotel and pay as and when they received funds. For those looking for jobs, he used to ask them to pay after they have got a job and received their salary. Such was his generosity.

I have eaten there several times when I was living in Bombay between 1984 and 1992. The quality of the food was simply superb and place was very neat and clean. All this they practised more than 30 years back and happy to note that it is still maintained. A must try hotel for every one visiting Matunga/ Bombay.

Very nice restaurent for homely and delicious south indian food in matunga...i used to have dinner here every sunday for 2 years..2012-14. Always ate till my belly full, took multiple servings of rassam and dal and sambar..yumm... Service is very good, they serve non stop diligently and cordially... Owner and staff very cordial and nice.

Ate there every day for 5 &1/2 years.( except for holidays). Mouth watering too. I am 70years ypung, would love to eat there again one last time before my last breath.

You can also try Manis Chembur & Sion they too follow the same satvik style plate meals, infact Chembur manis breakfast is a must-try in the morning time. Manis Matunga behind DP's place is small but the food is yummy. ARN is an all-time favorite top-rated SI banana leaf restaurant. They also celebrate a feast you must try and aam ras is their best in the season.

Nice.. it's really rare to find Bangalore style south Indian hotel in Mumbai..Many so called south Indian hotels serve modified versions of South Indian food..Like smearing aloo bhaji on the whole masala dosa..which is not done in South hotels..

Abhi poora pet bharke khakar aaya hoon. Dinner service is discontinued from Dec 2021.
Last week painting work was going on hence meals were not possible to cater.

for a guy who doesn't care to eat out, I am usually very picky and will not eat foods prepared by vendors or restaurants with no concern for hygiene. The older I get, the more picky I become because I have serious health concerns not just for myself, but my family members and friends and for the elderly. I am looking for some serious alternatives for my future trips to India. This looks like a clean healthy eating option.

I visited with my father ,the owner also very genourous person always smiling,main thing in this thali is no heavy food and also testy and digest easy for body and please note that they serve this food on banana leaf by tradition way,i visited that time price per thali was 200 rs in 2019 per person
That was last memory with my father where we eat toghether and usually he not like much outside food but he like these food mention me telling good food

I remember, from 1991 to 1996, almost every evening / night, I used to walk from hostel of Sion hospital to Ram Nayak, 1st floor near railway station of Matunga East. At Rama Nayak I used to have whole some south Indian dinner at Rs 5.50 in 1991. Over the years the price increased, and I recall that by 1996, the price was Rs. 8.50 per plate of dinner. On weekends, I used to even have lunch there and there used to be a huge queue with waiting time of half an hour to one hour.
I liked Rama Nayak, because (i) it was cheaper for hotelier’s like me, (ii) I love south Indian food, (iii) it was hygienic (iv) served fresh hot (v) they had a board at the reception where it claimed that they purchased HMT rice from Chandrapur - my place of birth and HMT was invented by my relative Dadaji Khobragade - so it had a sentimental value
I am happy to note that now they have a Idli House with a variety of Idlis.
